About the Author
SANDRA P. MERCURI teaches at Fresno Pacific University in the Division of Language, Literacy, and Culture and consults with districts across the country. She is currently completing her doctoral work at the University of California, Davis. Sandra has fifteen years of K-12 teaching experience in Argentina and the United States. She worked previously with the Freemans on writing Closing the Achievement Gap. YVONNE FREEMAN is a professor of bilingual education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education at the University of Texas at Brownsville Texas Southmost College. Together with David Freeman, they have authored eight books with Heinemann. DAVID FREEMAN is a professor of reading in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education at the University of Texas at Brownsville Texas Southmost College.
