Not for me.......2007-06-27
After reading "The Secret" this book did not interest me.
I returned the book.
Love this book!.......2007-05-19
I read this book and then went on to purchase it on audio as well. There are many great ideas that really I finally understood. I recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about the law of attraction. I am buying more copies to give to my friends.
Pug At The Beach Loves James Ray.......2007-05-15
James Ray's The Science of Success offers common tenets to wise living. These are powerful messages written with clarity and ease of voice. One can't help but be encouraged to leap into action and begin the processes described to create a new and exciting life. Because it mirrors many of the concepts we subscribe to at Pug At The Beach, I recommend it to our people here at Pug Headquarters. Sometimes all you need in life is the wisdom of a good dogTM or in this case, James Ray.
Pug at the Beach: An Island Dog's Reflections on Life
James Ray is indeed the Rock Star of Life Coaching.......2007-05-15
This is a book that is easy to read and offers practical advice for expanding in all areas of one's life. For those who have read or seen "The Secret" this is a perfect companion book to learn about the other "Laws" that govern our living. I personally like more of a "challenge" as the book touches on most of these Laws as a Summary and overview and introspective questions to ask oneself (otherwise the book would be very very thick) so I think the material is perfect for those who are just beginning the "Secret" path. However, it is a fantastic introduction to James Ray, the Life Coach and Philosopher and I would strongly recommend you catch him "LIVE" at one of his Free Seminars he gives across the Country to go "deeper". He is funny, eloquent, magnetic, charismatic, no nonsense and inspiring.
fantastic book.......2007-05-13
I would recommend this book to people who want to move forward in their lives and get "unstuck"

Money maven Suze Orman's latest book, Women & Money addresses the complicated (and often dysfunctional) relationship women have with personal finance. Orman's direct, non-condescending style is perfect for this subject matter--she begins with the premise that "Women can invest, save, and handle debt as well and skillfully as any man" and then tackles the important question--"So why don't they?" Designed to educate and inspire, Women & Money also offers a "Save Yourself Plan," a five-month program that "delivers genuine long-term financial security." Want to know more? Watch a video message from Suze below, and take a gander at the first chapter of Women & Money--you'll be "controlling your destiny" in no time. --Daphne Durham

Read the First Chapter of Women & Money
For Women Only
I never thought I'd write a book about money just for women. I never thought it was necessary. So then why am I doing just that in my eighth book? And why now? Let me explain. All my previous books were written with the belief that gender is not a factor on any level in mastering the nuts and bolts of smart financial management. Women can invest, save, and handle debt just as well and skillfully as any man. I still believe that--why would anyone think differently? So imagine my surprise when I learned that some of the people closest to me in my life were in the dark about their own finances. Clueless. Or, in some cases, willfully resisting doing what they knew needed to be done. I'm talking about smart, competent, accomplished women who present a face to the world that is pure confidence and capability. Do you mean to tell me that I, Suze Orman, who make my living solving the financial problems of total strangers, couldn't spot the trouble brewing so close to home? I don't think I'm blind; I just think that these women became very, very good at hiding their troubles from me.Why not? They had years of practice hiding them from themselves.

Book Description
Why is it that women, who are so competent in all other areas of their lives, cannot find the same competence when it comes to matters of money?
Suze Orman investigates the complicated, dysfunctional relationship women have with money in this groundbreaking new book. With her signature mix of insight, compassion, and soul-deep recognition, she equips women with the financial knowledge and emotional awareness to overcome the blocks that have kept them from making more out of the money they make. At the center of the book is The Save Yourself Plan—a streamlined, five-month program that delivers genuine long-term financial security. But what’s at stake is far bigger than money itself:
It’s about every woman’s sense of who she is and what she deserves, and why it all begins with the decision to save yourself.
Join the Movement to Save Yourself with this Unprecedented Offer to Readers of Women & Money:
Suze Orman believes that having an account of your own is the cornerstone of long-term financial security, and so she has begun a national movement called
Save Yourself to turn this wish—that every woman have an account in her own name—into a reality. She is joined in this crusade by the financial brokerage firm TD Ameritrade, which has come up with an extraordinary offer for readers of WOMEN & MONEY. Follow Suze’s
Save Yourself Plan and open an account in your name with TD Ameritrade. Commit to an automatic deposit of at least $50 per month for twelve consecutive months, and TD Ameritrade will provide the incentive in the form of a $100 deposit into your account in the thirteenth month. In other words, you save $600 or more over the course of a year, and TD Ameritrade will reward that effort with a $100 bonus. Learn more inside the book or at
www.saveyourself.com.
Offer valid for one new TD AMERITRADE account (non-retirement) opened between 2/27/07 and 3/31/08, and funded by 12 monthly consecutive automatic electronic deposits of $50 or more. First $50 must be deposited within 30 days of opening account. To be eligible, you must be a U.S. resident aged 18 or older. See

Book Description
Bishop Jordan has written a stellar work that is guaranteed to free the mentally enslaved, acquit the wrongfully charged, and bring healing to the sick. The Laws of Thinking is not a work for the shallow-minded person. It is demanding and challenging. It is neither intended to be used as the basis for unmerited criticism nor as sermon material for the minister having difficulty receiving a fresh work from the Lord. It was written with a very clear aim: to provoke spiritual thought. Bill Gates' Microsoft, Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions, Stephen Spielberg's DreamWorks, and even his own Zoe Ministries all began with a thought.
Every invention, university, book, song, business, home, skyscraper, movie, stage play, and baby began when someone chose to think. Nothing happens without thought. Creation did not happen without God's thought. Bishop Jordan's first objective is getting you to think.

The Law Of Writing.......2007-06-28
The Law Of Writing is my favorite chapter. My favorite principle is Writing Is The Entry Point Of Spirit Into Matter.I quote," each time you put pen to paper or fingers tokeys to write out your ideas, dreams, plans, and goalds, you are admitting Spirit into this realm".The seven chakras are energy centers for your body, focus points where the energy of Spirit both enters and leaves your body, I thank you Bishop E. Bernard Jordan for life changing excellent inspiring book This book has inspired me to embark on my continuing education, and realizing the potential I possess.Keep up the good work.
The You of You.......2007-06-27
You have to know who you are before you will ever know where you are going. The Laws of Thinking is the key to open you up to the true you which is actually the you of you that is just waiting on the inside to manifest peace, love, joy, happiness, success, wealth everything that God has for you! Get The Laws of Thinking in Your Mind so You Won't Be Left Behind. Peace!
The Law Of The Word.......2007-06-27
I really enjoyed the book on the Law Of The Word. In order for God to get something to me I had to get rid of a lot things I no longer had use for so more things could come to me. I was comfortabel with a lot of things, but as I decide to let them go. New things began to come me. Thank You Master Prophet for The Law Of The Word.
You must give things up for God to bring more to you !!!!.......2007-06-27
My co-worker and myself had to take a large pay cut this year. I turned the T.V. on one Sunday morning and the master prophet was speaking on chapter 9, The law of the word. It blessed me so much that I reread the chapter and it gave me encouragement that the door was closing to my salary so God can open up another door for me. I have to learn to trust God that He is still in control. I can buy without money. I am thankful for things that God has put in my path from other sources. My employer is not my only paycheck. Chapter 9 has helped me to be still and listen for the inner voice of God so He can direct me to other opportunies. Thank God for this book that we can always go back and review what has been put into writing and receive hope that this is only temporary. My attitude is not bitterness or worry but thankfulness. This book is a reference guide to help you get back on track when you are overwhelmed by to many obstacles. Thank you master prophet for this divine teaching and lesson that I have learned and shared with my co-worker.

This is a stella piece of Biblical based Literature. That should be implemented into your life so you can be freed mentally and elevated to the next level in life according to Gods will. This book is by far the best piece of literature I have read other than the BIBLE it self. AMEN

Customer Reviews:
fun and meaningful.......2007-06-27
It's a simple advice he gives, but it's done in an entertaining and convincing way. There are people who say becoming rich isn't about how much you know, but how well you do just a few things. His advice certaintly can't go wrong. It's not getting rich quick, but it is getting rich.
The Best First Book on Building Wealth.......2007-06-24
I would recommend this book as the best first book on money for anyone that would like to begin reading about the subject. It's engaging and fun, teaching the basics on saving and spending wisely for those who want to learn to develop a proper wealth building mindset. I would also recommend parents or educators give this book to their children to read (even though it's not a children's book) because it's accessible to people of all ages and enjoyable enough to keep the interest of even an overstimulated child.
This is the place to begin to learn about money, but not the end of the road. After you've read this try more advanced books like "The Millionaire Next Door" or "The Millionaire Mind," both by Thomas Stanley. You should be well on your way to an understanding of how to build wealth.
Only read it if you have no common sense of your own........2007-06-21
This is the worst of the Suzy Orman / Rich-Dad genre.
The book uses an awkward, cheezy, and stilted story-telling style to tell you the secret of becoming rich. Here it is, I'm going to save you $10 and then hour it takes to read this:
1. Save money
2. Invest it wisely
Shocker.
The Rules of Wealth Elegantly Told.......2007-06-17
Clason has written an elegant fable on how to be wise financially.
He makes the education very entertaining in a short easy read. He fascinates us with what seems to be real historical artifacts and genuine history of a great nation.
If one has read any other such material (like Rich Dad Poor Dad or Smart Couple Finish Rich) you will find many of the same principles. Mind you Clason's book came before the two mentioned so he gets more credit.
What he has over the others is the simplicity of the concepts and their digestable telling. He gives very basic but essential advice that would guide the reading of other more technical books. He equips us with the CONCEPT of money management and the invaluable character that must accompany it rather than the technical details of particular industries.
If you are just beginning to educate yourself on money or would like to introduce a friend to that world - this is the book to start with.
Please don't read - Greatest Investment Advice Ever.......2007-06-13
Simple fast & educational. If it is read & followed wealth will be achieved.
The book has been around for over 70 years & still has a very litle following. The advice is over 3000 years old & still people have no idea about savings & investing
Please keep doing what you have always been doing so you get the same results while those that have read this & follow it's advice will reach their financial goals

Book Description
Secrets of the Millionaire Mind reveals the missing link between wanting success and achieving it!
Have you ever wondered why some people seem to get rich easily, while others are destined for a life of financial struggle? Is the difference found in their education, intelligence, skills, timing, work habits, contacts, luck, or their choice of jobs, businesses, or investments?
The shocking answer is: None of the above!
In his groundbreaking Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, T. Harv Eker states: "Give me five minutes, and I can predict your financial future for the rest of your life!" Eker does this by identifying your "money and success blueprint." We all have a personal money blueprint ingrained in our subconscious minds, and it is this blueprint, more than anything, that will determine our financial lives. You can know everything about marketing, sales, negotiations, stocks, real estate, and the world of finance, but if your money blueprint is not set for a high level of success, you will never have a lot of money—and if somehow you do, you will most likely lose it! The good news is that now you can actually reset your money blueprint to create natural and automatic success.
Secrets of the Millionaire Mind is two books in one. Part I explains how your money blueprint works. Through Eker's rare combination of street smarts, humor, and heart, you will learn how your childhood influences have shaped your financial destiny. You will also learn how to identify your own money blueprint and "revise" it to not only create success but, more important, to keep and continually grow it.
In Part II you will be introduced to seventeen "Wealth Files," which describe exactly how rich people think and act differently than most poor and middle-class people. Each Wealth File includes action steps for you to practice in the real world in order to dramatically increase your income and accumulate wealth.
If you are not doing as well financially as you would like, you will have to change your money blueprint. Unfortunately your current money blueprint will tend to stay with you for the rest of your life, unless you identify and revise it, and that's exactly what you will do with the help of this extraordinary book. According to T. Harv Eker, it's simple. If you think like rich people think and do what rich people do, chances are you'll get rich too!

Customer Reviews:
Your mind matters...........2007-06-27
Great book. Maybe not new thesis, but it is one that I need to continually check myself. Easy read with powerful results.
Practical Advice plus Reach for the Stars.......2007-06-26
Seldom do books combine down to earth practical advice with a 'reach for the stars" mentality. Harv Eker manages to pull this off and keep you entertained at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and use many of the techniques on a regular basis. From saving money and learning to think about money in a new way, to rethinking your own mental make up and your self-worth, this book has many great points.
I recommend it very highly. It literally turned my life and my thoughts around.
Great listening.......2007-06-26
The guy had me laughing all the way to Aspen, Colorado. He repeats much of the same stuff I've read over and over. But, he does it in such an entertaining way that I remember his phrases and say them back to myself in certain situations.
In this day and age of historically low savings rates and high consumer debt, it's a great book for young people to read. We do need to be careful not to become overzealous with our obsession with money and keep things in perspective, however.
Browse Through This For 30 Minutes & You'll Realise What An Expensive Piece Of Garbage This Is.......2007-06-18
The back cover on Eker's book proclaims "Give me 5 minutes and I'll predict the rest of your financial life" or something to that effect. Well I'll say "Browse through this book for 30 minutes and you'll realise what an expensive piece of garbage this is."
I brought this book from a bookstrore in India all thanks to the positive and flattering reviews on Amazon. But now I supect that these reviews are fudged up. Maybe Eker or one of his cronies have spent a day writing them trying to mislead buyers. What do I write about the book? Suffice to say it has those zillion times repeated platitudes of "Think Big", "Be committed to being rich", "Focus on opportunities" and making positive affirmations to oneself. But I'd not even call it a good motivational book. Much better motivational books are available in the market (Robin Sharma is a good one). I have wasted my money. Please do not waste yours.
A mystical pep talk with no solid information.......2007-06-17
This book is very light in terms of content, it does not give you any definate strategy, just a lot of stories and anecdotes to pep you up. Of the 17 "wealth principles", many are worthless cliches, although several were sound and worthy of further reflection. The book is really spoiled by the author's reliance of several mystical beliefs, essentially bordering on the basic idea that if you think wishfully about money all the time, the universe will just provide more of it to you. The book is further devalued by the author's constant references to his additional products-I feel ripped out when I pay money for a book and instead of substantive information, I receive advertising. You can flip on the TV anytime late at night and watch advertising for various get rich quick schemes for free.

Makes too much sense!.......2007-06-26
This book explains in simple terms that what we have been taught by our parents and the government is completely wrong when it comes to planning for your retirement. I recommend everyone read this book, the concepts are simple and make more sense than investing in the stock market where you can lose money and paying off your house simply makes the banks rich.
Comprehensive but very readable.......2007-06-24
This book is the simpliest to understand treatise on how to use leverage to build wealth that is currently published. I have read most of them and found Ms. Snow's examples clear and to the point. Are these concepts for everyone. No, I don't think they are. But they are for everyone to consider. If you care about planning your financial future you would be cheating yourself if you don't consider these ideas.
True Sense of Security Now - A No Brainer.......2007-06-23
Reading this book was a real eye opener...had to read it twice to make sure I was really seeing and believing what I was reading. Now after implementing the plan, I can truely say I have a "true sense of security knowing I can now look at my future social security checks as a bonus and not as a means of survival". Great illustrations. This book is a must read especially for baby-boomers wondering how they are going to make it in retirement.
Every Home Owner Should Read.......2007-06-23
If you own a home you owe it to yourself to read this book. It has changed the way I think about the equity in my home. I now realize how much money I was losing by not separating the equity from my home. I've given copies to many of my business associates and have reccommended it to others. The book is easy to read and the concepts are very easy to understand. There is no reason for anyone to view their finances through the "Glasses of the Masses," everyone can now have "Real Wealth Vision."
BLATANT PLAGIARISM.......2007-06-09
This book is blatant plagiarism!!! It dosen't show much creativity and ethics to copy someone else's well-earned hard work. If you want the real deal, check out Doug's series Missed Fortune, Missed Fortune 101, and The Last Chance Millionaire. Let's rid the industry of sloppy, lazy piggy-backers!

Book Description
In this powerful and provocative manifesto, Bill McKibben offers the biggest challenge in a generation to the prevailing view of our economy. For the first time in human history, he observes, more is no longer synonymous with better -- indeed, for many of us, they have become almost opposites. McKibben puts forward a new way to think about the things we buy, the food we eat, the energy we use, and the money that pays for it all. Our purchases, he says, need not be at odds with the things we truly value. McKibbens animating idea is that we need to move beyond growth as the paramount economic ideal and pursue prosperity in a more local direction, with cities, suburbs, and regions producing more of their own food, generating more of their own energy, and even creating more of their own culture and entertainment. He shows this concept blossoming around the world with striking results, from the burgeoning economies of India and China to the more mature societies of Europe and New England. For those who worry about environmental threats, he offers a route out of the worst of those problems; for those who wonder if there isnt something more to life than buying, he provides the insight to think about ones life as an individual and as a member of a larger community. McKibben offers a realistic, if challenging, scenario for a hopeful future. As he so eloquently shows, the more we nurture the essential humanity of our economy, the more we will recapture our own.
Customer Reviews:
Good overall.......2007-06-02
This is the most convincing book I've read when it comes to buying locally. From farmer's markets to alternative energy sources, the author gives his insights on just how much less oil and water you demand from the environment when you make a few adjustments to your lifestyle. He is also right in challenging the growth for growth sake economic model. The GDP is a misleading number because it doesn't account for the damage we do to the environment, the damage we do to our own bodies and mental health by being a consume-at-all-cost culture. Rightly, he said that those negative effects should be subtracted, not added, to the GDP to present an accurate picture of a country's productiveness.
Where I disagree with him is that you don't have to go back to a farming society (albeit organic) in order to be a ecologically sustainable society. Alternative energy sources such as solar power, wind power, ethanol, etc... can become really huge when they are allowed to compete on an equal footing with big oil. If anyone has doubts that they're not given a fair chance to compete in the market, just consider what happened to my state, CA. The oil companies spent over $600 million dollars to defeat one little initiative bubbled up by the voters last year - to set aside a tiny percentage of tax money for alternative energy research. We're only talking about research here. Not even talking about breaking up the monopolistic practices of big oil. They blitzed the radio and TV stations with negative ads, threatening to increase gas prices if voters pass this bill. While neglecting to mention that it would be illegal for them to do so. I think last year, Californians got a whiff of just how determined the oil companies are in making sure that our society is addicted to oil.
Anyway, I digress. My point is, his vision for alternate energy source use wasn't big enough. What we need, along with more organic farms, is technology on the par of what Japan has - solar power grids and bullet trains that run on magnetic propulsion technology. Better public transportation. Green jobs such as sustainable city planning, green home retrofitting and alternative energy engineering jobs. We also need the European vision of the good, leisurely life. Working less, spending more time with family & community. (To be fair, he did mention this in his book.) Yes, we should have lots more organic farms. But organic farms by itself can't solve global warming. Furthermore, asking poor countries like India & China to go back to the countryside is just irresponsible. They need knowledge and technology, alongside with better farming practices, to turn their economy from being dependent on American patronage, to a truly self-sufficient country.
Great Book, I'm a Fan, But Other Works Exist.......2007-05-28
I've been a fan of the author since I read his book on Missing Information, and I then lost touch with his work. I was reminded of him by Paul Hawken, whose book Blessed Unrest I will review this afternoon.
DEEP ECONOMY is a very fine personal effort with a very straight-forward prescription for localizing food production, energy production, radio, and currency. The author is a gigantic intellect, and writes clearly.
The core point in the first part of the book is an emphasis on a need to restore humanity to the process, to reduce industrial era efficiencies in order to enable more intangible values such as community. The opening chapter is a great review of the literature the author is familiar, but I take off one star because the other books I list below are not mentioned, hence this great book is incomplete in that sense.
The author puts forward three areas where life as we know it is going downhill:
1) Our political systems continue to emphasize industrialization and consolidation that is not affordable by our current rates of depleting energy and water;
2) There is not enough energy for China, let alone Brazil, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Venezuela, and Wild Cards like Turkey and South Africa, to follow in our steps.
3) All this "more" is not making us happier. Indeed the author documents, as others have, that the US was happiest in 1946, and it's been downhill from there. He pegs financially-stimulated happiness at $10,000, after which more money does not bring more happiness in relation to self, community, and eternity.
He educates in pointing out that 50% of the global economy is tied up in food systems; that 50 acres can support 10-12 families; that a gallon of gasoline releases five of its six pounds of weight as emissions.
He introduces Bob Constanza and the calculated value of the ecosystem we are destroyed at $33 trillion annually. I learned of the Earth Stakeholder Report and about Behavioral Economics from this author. To that I would add the World Index of Social and Environmental Responsibility (WISER) and the inspiring works of Paul Hawken with "true cost" metrics and Jon Ramer with local currencies, Interra.
The middle book focuses, as others have, on the loss of community, on hyper-individualization, and on how Wal-Mart can save someone roughly $58 a year, but cost them their entire local economy. He uses this to emphasize the urgency of restoring our sense of community so we can make decisions as a collective, for the common good.
Like Al Gore, but with less pomp, he rails against advertising as the engine for unnecessary consumption.
I was surprised by, and then in agreement with, his voiced need to restore local radio stations that actually focus on local needs and concerns and news. His critical comments on the conglomerate shows that feature Rush Limbaugh and morons talking about pornography are properly devastating.
Take home message: localization is the only way to achieve resilience--the federal government is not going to be effective in the short or long term as things now stand. We learn that the ideal community size for participatory democracy is no more than 500 voters, of whom 40% can be expected to show up for a town hall meeting.
We learn that Anthony Lovins has reported to the Department of Defense that if they spend $180B over the next ten years--$18B a year--that can cut US oil imports in half, and save $70B a year in addition. Now that is what I consider to be a key piece of public information.
He is generally negative on Tom Friedman, with which I agree, and Jeffrey Sachs, for whom I hold out more hope.
Below are the books that teach us beyond and before the scope of this book, which I am very happy to have read and added to my library.
Manufacture of Evil: Ethics, Evolution, and the Industrial System
Consilience: The Unity of Knowledge
The Future of Life
The Ecology of Commerce
Natural Capitalism: Creating the Next Industrial Revolution
Pandora's Poison: Chlorine, Health, and a New Environmental Strategy
Water: The Fate of Our Most Precious Resource
Resource Wars: The New Landscape of Global Conflict With a New Introduction by the Author
Betrayal of Trust: The Collapse of Global Public Health
Blessed Unrest: How the Largest Movement in the World Came into Being and Why No One Saw It Coming
Buy local, save the world.......2007-05-23
This book is a treatise on why consumers should at least try and support local (small) businesses. From the food you eat to the products you buy, McKibben presents numerous reasons why the world would be better off on a much more local economy.
Deep Economy.......2007-05-17
Very thought provoking. We all need to rethink our carbon footprint and McKibben does an excellent job of making us think about not only what we do but what we try to teach. We all have a lot to learn about food, about energy and about our economic system. Great read.
Deep Economy Review.......2007-05-16
The authoe, Bill McKibben, is a thoughtful, well-informed person who cares about expanding community relationships and redirecting the reader's focus to creating a more sustainable world. Lots of facts and figures in the book to buttress his argument...

Book Description
In this short, powerful book, multimillionaire and bestselling author Steven K. Scott reveals King Solomon’s breakthrough strategies to achieve a life of financial success and personal fulfillment.
Steve Scott flunked out of every job he held in his first six years after college. He couldn’t succeed no matter how hard he tried. Then Dr. Gary Smalley challenged him to study the book of Proverbs, promising that in doing so he would achieve greater success and happiness than he had ever known. That promise came true, making Scott a millionaire many times over.
In The Richest Man Who Ever Lived, Scott reveals Solomon’s key for winning every race, explains how to resolve conflicts and turn enemies into allies, and discloses the five qualities essential to becoming a valued and admired person at work and in your personal life. Scott illustrates each of Solomon’s insights and strategies with anecdotes about his personal successes and failures, as well as those of such extraordinary people as Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, and Steven Spielberg.
At once inspiring and instructive, THE RICHEST MAN WHO EVER LIVED weaves the timeless truths of one of our greatest works of literature into a detailed roadmap for successful living today.
Customer Reviews:
The Richest Man who ever lived.......2007-06-27
This book is a true blessing. I realized that financial guru's get most of their knowledge from Solomon. I have bought additional books for people at my Church and they love it as well. We are planning to have a bible study using this book. I would highly recommend it to everyone.
Lessons from the book of Proverbs.......2007-06-04
Steven K. Scott has written an interesting book that uses the book of proverbs to illustrate his points. I really enjoyed the book, and although I felt that he sometimes tended to stretch his interpretation of bible passages to fit his point, I found the general messages very clear to understand.
The book of Proverbs does have incredible, time tested information that can change your life and Scott does an excellent job aligning them into a logical order and helping the reader understand the meaning of the many metaphors and parables.
Reading this book has lead me to read the book of Proverbs more often for answers and inspiration. Salomon, in Proverbs, discusses extensively such topics as diligence and slothfulness, and Scott does a pretty good job covering them in his book. Proverbs is an excellent book and The Richest Man Who Ever Lived is a great introduction to it.
Principles for Life.......2007-04-12
Thank you, Steven, for sharing your stories and your pursuit of the wisdom which God imparted to Solomon who then wrote them down for the generations. Whether you believe or not, many of the principles act much like the laws of physics which govern the natural order. I'm not aware of scripture where God asks us to pray for the laws of gravity, aerodynamics, thermodynamics or even for the sun to come up, or for tides, etc. they just work to everyone's benefit as long as our actions don't conflict with the know physical laws. Likewise, God has instituted laws of self governance and behavior that when followed yield positive outcomes toward long life, happiness and prosperity. I enjoyed and recommend the book.
Wise Counsel We Forget.......2007-04-03
This is a wonderful book that makes reading and understanding the wise counsel of King Solomon easy and pleasurable. It helped me understand past circumstances and how I could have better handled them. This book provokes self examintion as well as examintion of circumstances and people who have crossed our life's path. It reminded me of principles my father taught me that had been forgotten in the midst of hurried living. Reading of Steven's experiences when following King Solomon's counsel and when he didn't is inspirational. One sad thought, though; people who need to read and follow the guidance found in this book to become better citizens of planet earth will probably never read it. However, Steven gives guidance for dealing with those people.
Mark's opinion.......2007-03-26
Excellent revelation of the truths contained in the book of Proverbs,
Save reading the word but get to the facts simply by reading this book; the author has spent many years extracting the truth and wisdom of the wisest and richest man who ever lived, take a short cut and read it in days and extract its message.

In the revised and updated edition of Lean Thinking: Banish Waste and Create Wealth in Your Corporation, authors James P. Womack and Daniel T. Jones provide a thoughtful expansion upon their value-based business system based on the Toyota model. Along the way they update their action plan in light of new research and the increasing globalization of manufacturing, and they revisit some of their key case studies (most of which still derive, however, from the automotive, aerospace, and other manufacturing industries).
The core of the lean model remains the same in the new edition. All businesses must define the "value" that they produce as the product that best suits customer needs. The leaders must then identify and clarify the "value stream," the nexus of actions to bring the product through problems solving, information management, and physical transformation tasks. Next, "lean enterprise" lines up suppliers with this value stream. "Flow" traces the product across departments. "Pull" then activates the flow as the business re-orients towards the pull of the customer's needs. Finally, with the company reengineered towards its core value in a flow process, the business re-orients towards "perfection," rooting out all the remaining muda (Japanese for "waste") in the system.
Despite the authors' claims to "actionable principles for creating lasting value in any business during any business conditions," the lean model is not demonstrated with broad applications in the service or retail industries. But those manager's whose needs resonate with those described in the Lean Thinking case studies will find a host of practical guidelines for streamlining their processes and achieving manufacturing efficiencies. --Patrick O'Kelley
Book Description
Expanded, updated, and more relevant than ever, this bestselling business classic by two internationally renowned management analysts describes a business system for the twenty-first century that supersedes the mass production system of Ford, the financial control system of Sloan, and the strategic system of Welch and GE. It is based on the Toyota (lean) model, which combines operational excellence with value-based strategies to produce steady growth through a wide range of economic conditions.
In contrast with the crash-and-burn performance of companies trumpeted by business gurus in the 1990s, the firms profiled in Lean Thinking -- from tiny Lantech to midsized Wiremold to niche producer Porsche to gigantic Pratt & Whitney -- have kept on keeping on, largely unnoticed, along a steady upward path through the market turbulence and crushed dreams of the early twenty-first century. Meanwhile, the leader in lean thinking -- Toyota -- has set its sights on leadership of the global motor vehicle industry in this decade.
Instead of constantly reinventing business models, lean thinkers go back to basics by asking what the customer really perceives as value. (It's often not at all what existing organizations and assets would suggest.) The next step is to line up value-creating activities for a specific product along a value stream while eliminating activities (usually the majority) that don't add value. Then the lean thinker creates a flow condition in which the design and the product advance smoothly and rapidly at the pull of the customer (rather than the push of the producer). Finally, as flow and pull are implemented, the lean thinker speeds up the cycle of improvement in pursuit of perfection. The first part of this book describes each of these concepts and makes them come alive with striking examples.
Lean Thinking clearly demonstrates that these simple ideas can breathe new life into any company in any industry in any country. But most managers need guidance on how to make the lean leap in their firm. Part II provides a step-by-step action plan, based on in-depth studies of more than fifty lean companies in a wide range of industries across the world.
Even those readers who believe they have embraced lean thinking will discover in Part III that another dramatic leap is possible by creating an extended lean enterprise for each of their product families that tightly links value-creating activities from raw materials to customer.
In Part IV, an epilogue to the original edition, the story of lean thinking is brought up-to-date with an enhanced action plan based on the experiences of a range of lean firms since the original publication of Lean Thinking.
Lean Thinking does not provide a new management "program" for the one-minute manager. Instead, it offers a new method of thinking, of being, and, above all, of doing for the serious long-term manager -- a method that is changing the world.
Customer Reviews:
My husband loved it.......2007-04-10
My husband loved this book so much that this was actually purchased as a gift for another man in his office.
Excellent Book with Detailed Lean Conversion Techniques .......2007-02-01
This book provides many case studies of companies outside of the auto industry that converted to lean production. It details the personnel changes they had to make, changes in factory layout, differences in the supply chain and much more. Where "The Machine that Changed the World" was a primer to lean production, "Lean Thinking" is more of a how-to book. Together, they make a great pair and provide a fairly in-depth view of the subject. As in, "The Machine that Changed the World", there is plenty of hard data to back up the claims that these companies improved after switching to lean thinking.
I am a college student majoring in mechanical engineering and read this book and "The Machine that Changed the World" to get a broad understanding of lean production. The two books did just that and even gave me many ideas on how to convert a student organization I am involved with (SAE) to more of a lean organization. As much as possible anyway.
Lean Thinking Works.......2007-01-30
This book is a practical guide through lean thinking & principles. Highly readable, immediately applicable. A must for any professional rolling out Lean. I have been going through the chapters and returning time and again for bits and peaces that I can use in my own work. Excellent, usable and exciting to read.
Excellent book for basic understanding of Lean Thinking.......2006-12-10
Lean Thinking is the second of the lean books from Womack and Jones. First was "the machine that changed the world", which changed my way of thinking. Lean Thinking picks up where "the machine" left and tries to abstract the learning from "the machine" into 5 values of lean. The 5 values are "Value, Value Stream, Pull, Flow and Perfection". By abstracting these values, Womack and Jones enable the lean manufactuing ideas to be used in different industries, which is exactly what happened. That makes this book a landmark book that maybe changed the world even more than their first book.
The book itself is a nice and very very easy read. The authors get to the point, their explanation is clear and their stories made me enjoy the book very much. All in all, an excellent book and a absolute must read for anyone interested in lean, in whatever industry.

Joe Vitale does it again.......2007-06-21
Once again Joe Vitale has written a book that I found to be a "must have." Some words of caution, however: Dr. Vitale is a master at repurposing content so some of the stories and information in this book are also contained in some of his other books. They're still worth hearing/reading more than once and I find myself opening this book at random and reading from it as a reminder of how important the "inside" feelings and beliefs are to the "outside" successful life.
Great Book for Students of "The Secret" and the Law of Attraction.......2007-06-13
*****
This is not a perfect book, but it is an enjoyable and very helpful book for students of the Law of Attraction. Joe Vitale writes honestly and in a conversational style (this is a quick and easy read), discussing the Law of Attraction and how to apply it specifically to building wealth. However, he also covers attracting health, relationships, and more. The principle is the same no matter what it is applied to.
His process is distilled to 5 steps:
1. Know what you don't want.
2. Select what you do want.
3. Clear all negative or limiting beliefs.
4. Feel what it would be like to have, do, or be what you want.
5. Let go as you act on your intuitive impulses, and allow the results to manifest.
The value of the book is in the discussion as to HOW this happens, and all of the many examples the author gives. He also discusses historical resources, authors, and motivational speakers who influenced him in his personal development, so the book is full of great resources.
The best book on this topic I've read is Michael Losier's "The Law of Attraction". This book would be in the second tier after the LOA, but very, very valuable. The only criticism I have of it is that the author does plug himself and his other offerings a lot, but I mine for the gold, and there is much gold here, so I just glossed over anything I didn't need or wasn't interested in.

A Very Enjoyable Book!.......2007-05-24
We all know that there's nothing new under the sun these days. What makes this book so good is that it's motivating, inspiring and you feel like Joe is talking to you, not at you.
If you don't actively take steps to attract your desires as outlined in the book, then you can't possibly expect results. One of the highlights of the book was when Joe was describing how he manifested his dream car when he had no idea how he was going to do it. So I decided to do the same thing and here's what happened:
Before I start, I want to say that my ultimate dream car is a 500 series BMW (black). This would have represented quite a jump from the Honda Civic that I was still making payments to. So I decided to take baby steps and did exactly what Joe did (waltzed into a showroom with as much confidence he could muster and fill out the application for a new car).
While my new monthly payments only ended up being $77 a month more, it felt GREAT to drive a spanking new 07 Honda Civic! In the past, I would have allowed limiting thoughts plaque my mind (i.e. "You can't afford a new car! Are you crazy, you don't need a new car!" "What if you can't make the new monthly payments?" etc etc).
I have to say that since getting my new car, I've attracted new income in my life (i.e. more speaking engagements, donations to my "Adversity University blog and other unexpected income)!!
What Joe was trying to share was that if you simply take a risk, trust the universe to provide, then that's exactly what will happen. It's my opinion if you need to take baby steps on the way to your ultimate dream car or house or whatever it is you desire, then there's nothing wrong with that. You can't undo a lifetime's worth of limited thinking in one day. Dismantling limited thinking takes time and patience.
I've recommended this book to several of my readers at "Adversity University." It's a wonderful gem of a book to have in your library. Go and get it!
I want to add one more thing. Even though Joe doesn't say this in his book, he smokes cigars. I found out because he participated in a blogger experiment where bloggers everywhere listed at least 10 daily success habits. I wonder if he likes Montesino Toros? They are great! I smoke one because I like to sit out on my porch and contemplate how wonderful things have turned out in my life, thanks to the "Attractor Factor"!

The Attractor Factor is a must read!.......2007-05-19
A few months ago I got a copy of the Attractor Factor. I read it in two days. I was so on fire with the information I was receiving ... I could
barely sit still in my seat. It was as though a switch got flipped inside of me. It all made sense and was so simple! I knew that I could apply "The Attractor Factor" priciples. I was going to go after my dreams and create the life I'd always wanted.
I'm an artist and have always dreamed of making my living with my artistic gifts.
Not too long after reading "The Attractor Factor," I got a copy of "The
Secret" and watched it. Well ... let's just say that the fire that was
burning pretty good already turned into a bonfire!
In just three short months here is what has happened:
A huge chunk of nearly $35,000 in credit card debt was released and what
was left was consolidated into an affordable bank loan. That happened in
only three days ... and all the checks to pay off the debts were in the mail within a week.
I have had so many opportunities presenting themselves to me that I don't have time to do them all.
I've started a business painting murals in people's homes and have had an
excellent response. I've also attracted another artist to help me do the
work.
I have several peices of art hanging on public display, and for sale, at a local restaurant.
Abundance is beginning to flow more and more freely and my confidence to
magnetize money to me grows with each day. A woman who is starting her own art school has asked me to come and work with her to teach art to children and adults.
I have definite plans to leave my corporate job at the beginning of 2008.
And I can't wait to see what happens next. I am so excited!
I have gone from a life of despair, disappointment and depression to one of incredible joy and passion. I am remembering who I really am.
I highly recommend The Attractor Factor as a valuable learning tool for those who are ready to empower themselves and create their lives.
And here is an incredibly important bit of wisdom of which Dr. Viatle's
work has reminded me: It is hope that is ignited in the hearts of people
that is the fuel that burns the fire. Hope is the key.
If you want to live the life of your dreams ... YOU CAN DO IT! If I can do it ... you can! Just believe in yourself. You are a miracle -- treat yourself like one!
Before you know it, you'll find that your glass is always half full, that
abundance and harmony flows in all areas of your life, and that life itself is soooo good!

Joe is a touchable person who is full of passion and delivers a message in a way that is easy to apply. Buy and read anything with this man's name on it. Thank you Joe and keep on marketing, writing and sharing.
