Book Description
On average, a physician will interrupt a patient describing her symptoms within eighteen seconds. In that short time, many doctors decide on the likely diagnosis and best treatment. Often, decisions made this way are correct, but at crucial moments they can also be wrong -- with catastrophic consequences. In this myth-shattering book, Jerome Groopman pinpoints the forces and thought processes behind the decisions doctors make. Groopman explores why doctors err and shows when and how they can -- with our help -- avoid snap judgments, embrace uncertainty, communicate effectively, and deploy other skills that can profoundly impact our health. This book is the first to describe in detail the warning signs of erroneous medical thinking and reveal how new technologies may actually hinder accurate diagnoses. How Doctors Think offers direct, intelligent questions patients can ask their doctors to help them get back on track.
Groopman draws on a wealth of research, extensive interviews with some of the country's best doctors, and his own experiences as a doctor and as a patient. He has learned many of the lessons in this book the hard way, from his own mistakes and from errors his doctors made in treating his own debilitating medical problems.
How Doctors Think reveals a profound new view of twenty-first-century medical practice, giving doctors and patients the vital information they need to make better judgments together.
Customer Reviews:
A good read, as far as it goes..........2007-06-28
On a personal level, this book validated my own unfortunate experience with the medical profession. While it did not tell me anything of which I wasn't aware, I believe its value lies in exposure of these issues by a physician/author with high name recognition, such as Dr. Groopman.
Unfortunately, many readers will meet counterparts of themselves and their doctors in this book, which reveals some of the more obvious pitfalls of medical care. However, Dr. Groopman's candid exposure of certain faults in a doctor's thought process, personal bias, and self-serving actions, only scratches the surface of deeper, more pervasive problems in medicine.
I would like to believe that this book will encourage doctors who need
it most to reflect upon and change the ways in which they misjudge, misread and mistreat their patients. Realistically though, I believe these are the very doctors whose thinking will remain unchanged. I hope I am wrong.
It would take more than this book to change the thinking of those doctors whose misdeeds destroyed my own health. Certain unethical behaviors long accepted as the norm are too deeply ingrained in our society. Unfortunately, for the most part, "rightness" in our world exists more as a concept, than in deed. For every patient who survives years of misdiagnosis and harmful treatment and whose life is saved by an exceptional doctor, there are countless others who are further victimized BECAUSE of that first doctor's mistake.
I would have liked to see Dr. Groopman take this book a step further into the realm of cover-ups and the conspiracy of silence in the medical profession, a major influence on doctors' thoughts and actions. How many doctors have seen patients injured by a colleague's negligence and acted to help that patient? Not many. More often, the patient is written off with a "functional" diagnosis, which sticks to and precedes them and sets the stage for repeated useless and humiliating medical encounters.
Studies have proven that patients do not sue doctors who are open and honest, yet doctors continue defending their furtive behavior, using potential lawsuits as justification for their duplicity. How many doctors have been threatened with exclusion from hospital privledges should they dare blow the whistle on a colleague? And how many see patients injured from negligent surgery and refuse to "see" serious injury caused by faulty surgical technique? Not many.. Instead, he gives his colleague the benefit of the doubt, regardless of how blatant the error, and thinks "There but for the grace of God go I".
"How Doctors Think" is a good and easy read.. entertaining with just the right amount of shock value to hold the average reader's interest..which is not too much. There's lots more dirt beneath this rug that needs to surface before any change for the better can take place. Dr. Groopman has opened the door for deeper investigation, exposure and accountability of the profession in which we entrust our lives.
Usefull Patient Health Guide.......2007-06-28
I am a semi-retired eye surgeon. Even I learned quite a bit from reading this book. As well as providing me with tools to use when I am the patient trying to communicate with my physicians and other health care providers it has provided me with the knowledge and insights needed to improve my comunications with my patients.
Doctors thinking.......2007-06-27
I thought this most interesting I am retired now, but it would have been nice to have been able to read this 10 or 15 years ago.
I gave the book to a PhD Educational Psychologist, who I work out with, and he is enjoying it as well.
Dr Groopman has published in the New Yorker and I thought his articles there were well done.
As a former hand surgeon, inspite of practicing in a rural area, I knew what dynamic scapholunate instability was. I don't if it has an agree on treatment at this point in time
A great book to see how a doctors thinking goes and better yet for patients to cause their case to be considered fairly and thoughly.
His feelings on HMOs are interesting, makes me fell retirement is timely.
Long on stories, short on analysis.......2007-06-24
"How Doctors Think" is a good book on an important subject. The book is divided into chapters about different medical specialties: a chapter about primary care physicians, a chapter about radiologists, etc. Each chapter has one or more stories in which a doctor made a mistake. Some of these stories are more than twenty pages long. Most have too much non-essential detail, such the view from the doctor's office. Then Groopman explains why the doctor made the mistake. I liked the breadth of reasons Groopman finds for doctors mistakes, ranging from asking close-ended questions instead of open-ended questions, to bias against patients who don't take care of their bodies (smokers, drinkers, obese people), to cognitive errors such as stopping searching when you find the first disease (and so missing second or third diseases in some patients). I especially liked the analyses of how doctors handle uncertainty (and how much uncertainty there is in medicine).
If this had been a textbook it would have been organized by types of errors, with a conceptual structure or framework. As it is you remember the cases but it's hard to remember the analyses. Probably 99% of the readers want to be entertained by interesting stories and don't care about why (for example) the least accurate radiologists are the most confident of their diagnoses. Luckily the notes at the end of the book are detailed and recommend more detailed books and journal articles.
Very good.......2007-06-23
Groopman tackles one of the important issues of our age: how we can do a better job at medicine. Surprise: one of the keys is for doctors to listen to their patients. This point is also made in the excellent book by Gawande(Better). Every time I read a book like this it makes me believe I sould hire an expert to go with me when I visit a doctor. Someone needs to be watching because it is so easy to make a mistake. This book is both informative and interesting to read. Recommended.

Fans of the National Geographic Channel's The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan will be grateful for Cesar's Way, an accessible guide to help new and current dog owners better understand the needs of their beloved pets. If you are not yet a fan, try to catch a couple of episodes of the remarkable show--you will be amazed, impressed, and motivated to create a healthier, more fulfilling relationship with your dog. In Cesar's Way, Cesar explains that dogs are not complicated, and despite what various owners think--not human. They rely on three key elements in their lives: exercise, discipline, and affection (in that order). "Problem dogs" can be attributed to "problem owners," owners who don't understand and misinterpret their dog's behavior. Cesar's Way is really a training program for dog owners, with chapters devoted to understanding the "power of the pack," taking responsibility for "how we screw up our dogs," and learning how to manage aggression. Cesar's book (a must-have for new and old dog owners) moves beyond basic obedience school techniques, and teaches owners how to change unwanted behavior by better understanding their "best friends." --Daphne Durham

Cesar Millan's Top 5 Tips for Going to the Dog Park
1. Make sure your dog is spayed or neutered, has all her shots, and is in good health. Under no circumstances should you bring a sick dog to a dog park!
2. Do not use the dog park as a substitute for the walk! If you drive to the park, leave your car a block away and take your dog on a vigorous walk of at least thirty-five minutes to drain some of her energy. Never take an over-excited dog to the park.
3. While at the park, don't "punch out" on your calm-assertive leadership. Be aware of your dog at all times, and take responsibility for her behavior.
4. A calm-submissive dog will not attract another dog's aggression--but an excited dog, a weak, timid dog, or an aggressive dog can become a fight-magnet.
5. Know your dog! If your dog has poor social skills, is overly fearful or is dog aggressive, or if you have not yet established your calm-assertive leadership with your dog, find a more controlled way to introduce her to the company of other dogs, such as "play dates" with one or two other dog owners.
Book Description
“I rehabilitate dogs. I train people.” —Cesar Millan
There are at least 68 million dogs in America, and their owners lavish billions of dollars on them every year. So why do so many pampered pets have problems? In this definitive and accessible guide, Cesar Millan—star of National Geographic Channel’s hit show Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan—reveals what dogs truly need to live a happy and fulfilled life.
From his appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show to his roster of celebrity clients to his reality television series, Cesar Millan is America’s most sought-after dog-behavior expert. But Cesar is not a trainer in the traditional sense—his expertise lies in his unique ability to comprehend dog psychology. Tracing his own amazing journey from a clay-walled farm in Mexico to the celebrity palaces of Los Angeles, Cesar recounts how he learned what makes dogs tick. In Cesar’s Way, he shares this wisdom, laying the groundwork for you to have stronger, more satisfying relationships with your canine companions.
Cesar’s formula for a contented and balanced dog seems impossibly simple: exercise, discipline, and affection, in that order. Taking readers through the basics of dog psychology and behavior, Cesar shares the inside details of some of his most fascinating cases, using them to illustrate how common behavior issues develop and, more important, how they can be corrected.
Whether you’re having issues with your dog or just want to make a good bond even stronger, this book will give you a deeper appreciation of how your dog sees the world, and it will help make your relationship with your beloved pet a richer and more rewarding one.
Learn what goes on inside your dog’s mind and develop a positive, fulfilling relationship with your best friend
In Cesar’s Way, Cesar Millan—nationally recognized dog expert and star of National Geographic Channel’s hit show Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan—helps you see the world through the eyes of your dog so you can finally eliminate problem behaviors. You’ll learn:
• What your dog really needs may not be what you’re giving him
• Why a dog’s natural pack instincts are the key to your happy relationship
• How to relate to your dog on a canine level
• There are no “problem breeds,” just problem owners
• Why every dog needs a job
• How to choose a dog who’s right for you and your family
• The difference between discipline and punishment
• And much more!
Filled with fascinating anecdotes about Cesar’s longtime clients, and including forewords by the president of the International Association of Canine Professionals and Jada Pinkett Smith, this is the only book you’ll need to forge a new, more rewarding connection with your four-legged companion.

Cesar's Way.......2007-06-28
This book is more about how Cesar Millan thinks and how he thinks you, as a North American, should think about dogs. So if dog psychology is what you are looking for, it's perfect. It has some tips for how to handle things your dog is doing that s/he shouldn't be, but it isn't a handbook of training tips. As he says, those are already in a plethora of how-to books. Still, I would have liked this kind of book from Cesar Millan. A whole book of inter-species psychology?
It really is Cesar's Way.......2007-06-28
Cesar's way is a great way to learn about dogs in their natural state of being. It talks about how to fix your dogs behavioral problems, and it talks about the changes you need to make in your life to help your dog be happy. Cesar's 3 rules are exercise, discipline and affection in that order. He talks about these rules multiple times in his book. They are the key to a happy healthy human-dog relationship.
I was a little disappointed.......2007-06-26
I thought this book was just his show written down on paper. I was expecting a little more guidance and specifics, but it was mostly too general to be of much help to me. For example, he will write, "if your dog is pulling hard on the leash, you have to show him that behavior is unacceptable". Ok, but what about when that doesn't seem to work? It could be that it is different for puppies because they are still babies. I have a 15 week old dalmatian.
I was also a little put off by all of the mentions of celebrities in the book. I mean, how many times do you have to mention Oprah or Will and Jada Smith and how wonderful they are? It felt like he was a big suck-up and it detracted from the value of some of his information for me.
Cesar's Way - the only way.......2007-06-26
I was ready to give up on my very aggressive, very territorial & hyper active male beagle. We were getting ready to put him down. I then checked out Cesar's Way from the library. 2 days later, I purchased it from amazon.com. Using this book, we have been able to turn our out of control beagle into a lovable, family pet that we have been striving to have for the past 3 years. We still have 2 areas that we are struggling with but we feel with more time & work he will come around with those also. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is having problems with the out of control dog. Like Cesar says in his book, euthenasia should be the last option after ALL other options have been exhausted.
Interesting book, not much help with training, though..........2007-06-19
I read this book because I was looking for a way to correct my two-year-old Lab/Chow mix's incessant barking, among other obnoxious problems. I quickly realized, though, that this is much more a personal history of Cesar Millan than a dog-training book--which is fine, but it wasn't what I was looking for. Considering that the book is subtitled "The Natural, Everyday Guide to Understanding and Correcting Common Dog Problems," though, it didn't deliver for my husband and I. We have both agreed that it would probably be great for puppies, but our dog is set in her behavior pattern and this method just does not seem like it's going to work for us. Another major problem: Cesar recommends that you walk your dog every morning and every evening, and for at least an hour and a half each day. And that's a bare minimum! My husband and I both work full-time jobs and simply do not have the time to walk our dog that much. If you're a full-time dog trainer, obviously, you have time to walk dogs this much. One long walk per day is the best we can do for our dog. (He also says that if you can't commit to as much time as he says you should each day, you shouldn't get a dog.)
In the end, we were both looking for a book that would tell us how to fix our dog's problems. Cesar gives vague instructions about projecting "calm-assertive energy" and walking your dog to death. (It almost seems like you're supposed to walk your dog until they're too tired to do anything! I know every time we bring our dog home from a walk, she pretty much passes out for the next few hours.) While Cesar has had a fascinating life and has a great story to tell, this book simply didn't provide what my husband and I were seeking. We wanted more of a manual, and this was an autobiography followed by a group of case studies.

Book Description
CEOs regularly announce ambitious growth targets, then fail to achieve them. The reason? Their growing addiction to bad profits. These corporate steroids boost short-term earnings but alienate customers. They undermine growth by creating legions of detractors—customers who complain loudly about the company and switch to competitors at the earliest opportunity.
Based on extensive research, The Ultimate Question shows how companies can rigorously measure Net Promoter statistics, help managers improve them, and create communities of passionate advocates that stimulate innovation. Vivid stories from leading-edge organizations illustrate the ideas in practice.
Practical and compelling, this is the one book—and the one tool—no growth-minded leader can afford to miss.

Broken Record.......2007-06-27
Overall the book is great. It has a lot of great examples, though I think it could have gone more in depth about what they did with the NPF score once they figured it out. Otherwise it really is a very broken record book as the author repeats himself a great many times with the NPF is so important...and the examples are so similiar because he doesn't really show what they did with the NPF score after they found it. What did they do to make the company better? Show what is beneficial in finding an NPF score, the ideas to use the NPF, it can't simply be one after another of this great big company used the NPF score system and turned their company into this. How? How did they use the NPF to turn the company into what it is today?
NPS, finally a customer service score I can use.......2007-05-15
The Ultimate Question is compelling to read. Alright, so I listened to it. Then I went out and bought five more copies for the senior people on my team. This question (and the supporting elements) have already begun to ripple out and have an impact upon our organization. Would you refer us to your friend or family member? It places accountability upon the person being asked at a completely different level. Talk about amping it up.
The second, and in many way more important element, is tracking this effort with the same level of dilligence and seriousness of your accounting or financials. Actually making this a metric you track with results that work their way toward forecasted revenue is huge. It justifies the effort of trying to track it in the first place.
And of course at the end of the day we get to delight our customers which is why most of us started our businesses in the first place. We're learning what we can do better and reacting to it more quickly...probably because we respect the NPS system more than we ever did our customer satisfaction surveys.
I can only imagine how our organization and our work product will be over the long term.
An excellent cornerstone element!
Exceptional.......2007-04-25
The key to this book's central idea is that you can REPLACE a large handful of other questions with this single question, so people will actually give you feedback. With a longer set of questions, you only get answers from people who enjoy filling out questionnaires! With this single powerful metric, you can watch your company go toward or away from customers. I plan on aiming part of my business in this exciting direction.
The Ultimate Answer.......2007-03-08
The work in this book describes the challenges all businesses face in establishing and maintaining authentic relationships with customers. The ultimate question, while simple, is a challenge of significant proportions. The challenge is for every business member living company values to the extent that their customers are thrilled with their relationship and their experience of the company. It is the logical compliment to six sigma. The knowledge in this book lived will lead to just and dynamic performance on the part of the whole company. This is easy reading, full of solid examples. The Ultimate Question is required reading for every business leader at all echelons.
Powerful message based on common sense.......2007-02-20
This surprising book offers a powerful message based on common sense: Companies that treat their customers ethically and honestly will build a dedicated client base, and thus grow steadily and earn "good profits." The opposite lesson is that companies that take advantage of their customers through predatory pricing or shoddy products earn "bad profits" while building an army of disenchanted buyers who tell their friends to stay away. Fred Reichheld makes his point in black and white: Rip off your customers at your peril. He amply illustrates his message with powerful case studies, and includes details about using the "ultimate" question - "How likely is it that you would recommend this business to a friend or colleague?" - and the resulting "Net Promotor Score" to identify your best customers. We commend this book to service or product providers who want to achieve solid growth by nurturing their core consumers.

Product Description
Birth - 18 months. A straight-forward and light-hearted approach to teaching infants how to communicate using simple American Sign Language (ASL) signs.
Amazon.com
Sign with Your Baby Complete Learning Kit will enable you to communicate at new levels with your baby long before she can speak. This comprehensive package of book, video, and reference guide shows how simple gestures can communicate ideas like "I'm hungry" or "help me." Caregivers grasp baby's needs immediately rather than learn through trial and error. Dr. Joseph Garcia has designed the system so it's not necessary to learn an entire new language, although it also provides a terrific start in American Sign Language for a hearing-impaired child. A fascinating introduction delves into the development of language in children and uses informative line drawings to demonstrate over 150 hand signs for all kinds of actions and nouns. The accompanying video provides practical tips for getting started, some insight into the hows and whys of this method from Dr. Burton White (director of the Center for Parent Education), and inspiring sights of young babies signing effectively with their caregivers. The laminated quick-reference guide lists some of the most common words in any parent's day: cookie, no, and up are but a few. Garcia's clear, concise methods make learning a breeze, and caregivers gain outstanding new abilities to give the best possible care for the babies entrusted to them. --Jill Lightner
Customer Reviews:
Too much marketing, Not enough vocab........2007-05-26
I started at 7 months, he picked up the first sign at about 10 months, and the rest came around 1 yr. The video/book combination is good because the video shows you the signs and the book is handy for a quick reference.
Drawbacks:
1. I felt like much of the video was still trying to sell me on the idea of doing sign with my baby. It could focus less on marketing and present the information more efficiently.
2. The sign vocabulary is limited to the first stage of sign language learning only. It could be improved by including more vocabulary.
Best Baby Sign Language program.......2007-05-14
I have compared this program with other sign language programs, and it seems to be the best one I have come across so far. At one point, I taught another baby sign language course, whose name I will not mention. The program's signs did not always come close to actual sign language, which I found was offensive to the deaf community. Joseph Garcia's program follows actual signs from ASL, and the program is easy enough to learn if you are willing to put the time and effort into it. I would definitely recommend this baby sign language program for other mothers - the resources are varied - book, DVD, quick reference guide - it's the best out there!!
Awesome purchase.......2007-05-13
I was really glad I purchased this. It is very easy and easy to work into your play time. Recommend it well worth the price
A must buy!.......2007-05-10
I bought this and started introducing it to my daughter as soon as she was brought home from the hospital. Each time I would give her her milk bottle I would do the sign for milk. She signed for milk at age 6 months old. Before she turned a year old, she did the sign for change (the diaper), then it went on and on. Now I kinda kick my butt for teaching her how to do the sign language when she was a baby because she is super articulate for her age and just recently she successfully completed transitional math for kindergarteners-1st graders at age 3.
The DVD is great.......2007-03-15
Just watching the DVD has given me enough to start signing with my 11 month old. I still need to read the book, but it's easy to learn just by watching the DVD. I really like how it shows all these babies doing the signs. These parents' lives seem so much easier because they can communicate with their babies. We've been doing the signs for about a month now and I think he's doing the sign for "more" and he recognizes the sign for "brush teeth" because that's his favorite part of the day. He gets a huge grin on his face when I do it because he knows what's coming up.

The book is excellent in its layout. Is easy to follow and is a very imformative piece of necessary literature for any firefighter taking firefighter 1. Is very informative on NFPA regulations and guidelines. I was impressed with the detail that was given in the book, our instructor was impressed with this book as well.

Study Tool.......2007-06-27
This book is an excellent review tool. It porvides thought provoking questions one may encounter on the exams. It provides answers and reasons for the answers.
If you are planning on taking any of the following: NCE, LPC, MFT or other similar test, read and study the book.
Passed the exam with flying colors!.......2007-06-26
This was the only book I used to study for the exam and I passed with a pretty high score. The writing style is clear, concise, and actually pretty entertaining. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is preparing for the National Counselor Exam.
Excellent Reference Book. I PASS TOO!!!!.......2007-06-09
The book have an excellent format and a lot of information. It covers all the areas of the exam in a friendly way, explaining every aspect and more. It is write in a way that you will remember by association a lot of important terms. You will remember what you read whe you take the exam. I took the exam in Puerto Rico, it was the only reference that I had and I pass the exam. Excellent book!!! A+
Excellent.......2007-05-12
This is the only test prep I used and passed with a high score. The book is designed just like the test itself. All of the material covered in the book was relevent to the content of the test and Rosenthal's explanations were clear and concise. I can't say enough good things about this book. If you're anxious about sitting for the NCE, get this book and read it cover to cover and you'll have nothing to worry about. Good Luck!!!
Amazing.......2007-05-07
This is an amazing book to review for the NCE exam. I loved the fact that it had explanations for the wrong and right answer and it was set in a way that you were forced (in a good way) to review all of the material until you got it. It is easy to read and understand. Much better with theories than your regular theories book.

Customer Reviews:
One of the best choices to prepare for MCAT.......2007-05-29
Excellent set of books to prepare for MCAT. You should also try to do as many passages from other sources too.
Awesome but.........2007-05-24
The Examkrackers series is great to improve your MCAT score for home study. Just make sure to follow the home study guide on their website. The books are colorful, easy to read and...yeah almost fun to study from. The only major downfall is that the typos and errors can be frusturating. I got the 7th edition and it was still littered with typos! The typos and errors are so obvious that they could have been fixed if someone just proofread the final draft ONCE!! Seriously! For example: The front cover says "Includes exercises with OFFCIAL AAAMC material", you might see 4 answers and they forgot to ask a question. There are parts where they say remember these FOUR things and go on to number THREE things. It's still the best study guide for the MCAT. All the little typos and messups just get really anoying considering that anyone could have fixed them after one proof read. And after the SEVENTH EDITION?!?! Come on guys. Don't just pump out a new edition every year to make a quick buck without even fixing the retarded typos. That's just lame and cheap.
So far so good........2007-05-06
I haven't taken the MCATs yet but I've been impressed with the examkrackers materials. They summarize challenging information in a very condensed format without sacrificing clarity.
Examkrackers MCAT Review Books (Sixth Edition, Set).......2007-03-19
I'm very pleased with the product. These are really great for someone who wants a comprehensive review which puts the stuff you have to know for the MCAT into larger context. Prrovides a LOT of background knowledge that you don't really need, but if you weren't a bio or chem major as an undergrad it is really helpful to have a little extra. I've used Kaplan also, and I think Kaplan only covers EXACTLY the bare minimum you need to know... whereas this provides a lot more. EK might be overkill on the chem and physics... but its great in the bio book and the verbal has some really useful tips. Overall, the books are heavy on review and light on strategy and gimmicks... which I really like.
Watch out, though. I've found several place where EK notes that something is not tested on the MCAT, and I have personally seen it on a MCAT discrete last year.
Good luck! AM
Right to the point.......2007-02-23
The best thing about this book is that it tells you the material you need to know and the ones you don't need to know unlike other books. The review questions and the 30 minute exam after each chapter are also very helpful. The disadvantage is that since it gets right to the point it overlooks some material so I suggest this book in addition to another provider. Bit overall I was very impressed.

A manual you can use........2007-05-17
I was able to start using logic within minutes of flipping through this book. It is well written and laid out in a user friendly manner. I couldn't get anywhere with the manual, and I am use to reading technical babble. Get this book if you want to start using logic quickly, efficiently, and to its full potential.
Great tutorial - but written for those with experience .......2007-05-10
First let me say that this book (and it's partner Advanced Logic) are extremely useful and turn the "get to know the software" headaches into real pleasures. Having said that, this is obviously written by someone who is so familiar with the software that they take some things for granted that aren't obvious to the first-time user.
All in all though it is well worth the investment and comes with its own set of "songs" that walk one through the various features of the software in a well organized way.
very informative book.......2007-05-07
The manual is fabulous. Logic Express 7 is quite an undertaking to learn and this book is helping out a lot.
Logic Pro & and Logic express.......2007-03-09
I just moved up from Garageband and bought Logic Express. I am a novice producer who wanted to step his game up a little bit. This program is very complicated but this book here guides you through EVERYTHING. I would not waste my time writing this review if i didnt want to tell all of you out there to BUY this book. It is a lifesaver and highly recommended. It is the best 30 or so bucks you can spend compared to the knowledge you will gain. I was just like all of you and thought I could do it alone because Garageband was so easy to learn. Please quit reading these stupid reviews and get this manual. Its fantastic!!!!!
Moving from Garage Band to Logic.......2007-01-27
Being a long time user of Garageband, moving to Logic Express with this book has been great. The book moves through sections clearly and explains what needs to be said. I felt comfortable enough to make some real music in Logic after having read this book, and have done some new recordings. If your looking for something more than GarageBand, check this book out to move to the next step.

Customer Reviews:
The Wong book is the WRONG book.......2007-06-19
Sure, Harry Wong is a big name motivational speaker, but when it comes to knowledge of classroom realities and students, he is (in my opinion) an idiot. I was forced to read this tripe when I first went through teacher certification training. I got as far as the first chapter where Wong says "learning should not be fun" and wanted to throw the book away. Wong just rehashes Comer and every other method that came before him.
Eight years of teaching later, I am more convinced than ever that Wong is useless. New and veteran teachers would be better off with any other book. If you want role models, look at Ron Clark, Louanne Johnson, Erin Gruwell, and Jaime Escalante. Sure, they all have movies, but they are far more genuine than Wong.
You'd even be better of watching reruns of Boston Public or Room 222.
OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY!.......2007-06-18
Don't waste time or money on this book! The advice in this book does not take into account the reality of teaching in today's urban schools with a seriously disenfanchised student population. As as new high school teacher, my district gave me this book--I wish they hadn't! I made the mistake of trying to implement Wong's ideas. Good grief! What a disaster--and, of course, according to guru Wong, when his cheesey methods didn't work with my 5 classes of world-weary students, it was all my fault for not following his rules!
My experience in trying to follow his methods almost drove me out of teaching. However, once I gave his dictatorial methods the boot and went back to being my self and using my commonsense, my classroom became a happier and much more successful place.
At first I couldn't understand the popularity of this book, but then I realized that it's great for the type of teacher who needs to control students--in my opinion that is the number one character flaw in the typical teacher. Since I am not a control freak, this book and it's emphasis on turning students into obedient automatons is an anathema for me.
If you want to develop into a teacher who is in tune with your students, avoid this book like the plague.
Tons of Information for new teachers.......2007-06-08
As a student teacher, my clinical teacher recommended this book to me, so I checked it out at the library. It didn't take me long to realize I needed to purchase this book as a resource to have throughout my teaching career. Lots of nuggets to help get your classroom off to a great start and keep it on track throughout the year!
Review of "The First Days of School".......2007-06-08
This book has some excellent ideas for getting your school year started right. Even if you are not a new teacher this book is beneficial. As Harry Wong says you do not need to read the book from cover to cover to benefit. Since we all are so busy this is an awesome guide for those little problems you may be having in your classroom.
more than I expected. .......2007-06-08
If anyone has seen Harry Wong in action, you know your class day will be organized, disciplined and comfortable and your students will perform with some degree of decorum.
This is basic and to the point. And, of all things, it comes with the C.D. Which was the original subject of my search. When I couldn't find the C.D., I bought the book. And, loe and behold, there was Harry. Not bad...a two fer
