If youhave to deal with any of these type people you need to read this book
A Waste of Money.......2007-02-06
This book has very simplistic ideas and lacks the constructive solutions that I hoped to learn. For example, her advice for dealing with people prone to explosive temper is "If you stay around someone and feel you are walking on eggshells, find ways to handle the eggs--and that person--more gently so the shells don't break." Reading her advice made me wonder what kind of education and experience she has that qualifies her to write such a book. Interestingly enough, there's very little information about that in her bio. It looks like her Ph.D is in journalism or English. I would love to send this book back and get my money back. I would probably spend it better on a book written by an educated, credentialed, psychologist who understands the difference between constructively handling people with behavior problems versus enabling them to continue to abuse others and make work life hades.
The Rodney King guide to the Workplace.......2006-09-04
This book is really great; I call it the Rodney King guide to the workplace because it really is about "Can't we all just get along?" And, if we can't....then it gives you the guidelines to follow to see heads roll, or sometimes, how to choose to lose your own head on the chopping block.
I like that it doesn't give a "pat" answer, but provides several best/worse case scenarios & allows you to think the problem out, hopefully BEFORE you encounter it. If you are in the middle of dealing with one of these treasured co-workers, then this guide will be very helpful in giving you strategy for dealing with the problem in a real life way.
Loved it!
Helpful for Anyone who Works with Humans.......2006-09-03
This book provides some very useful information that will assist any manager in helping their staff members to work better with each other. It is clearly and thoughtfully written. I highly recommend this book to anyone who works with Humans!
Definitely good book........2005-05-28
I like the stories in the book. Those are prime examples of people I saw and I'm seeing every day. The book is excellent for understanding different people and different situations in which you might interact with them. Obviously the book is written by someone who understands people's mind.

Have you ever agonized over how to handle a bully in the workplace--with pie-in-the-face retribution or a saintly smile? "The 100 people you'll meet on these pages," Muriel Solomon teases in her introduction to this hard-hitting and entertaining guidebook, "should be founding members of E.O.O.--Equal Opportunity Offenders. They show no bias. They are as obnoxious to their bosses as they are to their bookkeepers." But the teasing segues into practical advice for those seeking to do their work in--if not kind circumstances--at least unthreatening ones.
Designed as an at-a-glance reference tool, this 10-part guide describes 10 kinds of culprits, from tyrants, bullies, and sadists to the pushy and presumptuous to connivers and camouflagers. Each type is first defined, allowing for a peek inside the heads of both victim and victimizer and offering a helpful strategy for facilitating tactful dialogues that serves as excellent advice for diffusing workplace tensions and hostilities.
You may recognize these types as thorns in your side or--worse--real threats to your sense of well-being and work performance. This reference book packs a wallop, not only restoring your self-esteem but allowing you to create better relationships with the people at work who make your life miserable. Working with Difficult People may not disarm the despicable, but it will supply you with the ammunition you need to put the control back in your camp.
Book Description

Conveniently organized in an A-to-Z format for quick, easy reference, Solomon offers practical ways to turn awkward situations to your advantage. Learn to cope with hostile, presumptuous, manipulative, or critical co-workers, and get cooperation as well as respect from colleagues.

Found the book difficult to follow and read. The book reads more like a dictionary.
Good Book for Dealing With People At Work.......2005-05-30
Solomon (not King Solomon, but does have some of his wisdom) has written a good book for dealing with workers of three different classes: bosses, colleagues, and subordinates. The book is also broken down into 10 major areas in dealing with all three types:
1. Hostile/Angry.
2. Pushy/Presumptuous.
3. Deceitful/Underhanded.
4. Shrewd/Manipulative.
5. Rude/Abusive.
6. Egotistical/Self-Centered.
7. Proscrastinating/Vacillating.
8. Rigid/Obstinate.
9. Tight-Lipped/Taciturn.
10. Complaining/Critical.
Each section also contains:
1. A brief definition of the person and the personality characteristics typically displayed.
2. Hypothetically what you may be thinking of that person.
3. What the person hypothetically may be thinking about you and the work place.
4. A strategy for dealing with that person.
5. Tactical talk - suggested actual words you may use.
6. Closing tips on what else you can do.
I enjoyed the narrative's smooth flow and practical advice. However, I sometimes believe the author treated the situation and offender with kid gloves. In today's work environment, bosses, colleagues, and subordinates have to be decisive and firm with problem employess who threaten to disrupt a work environment that is already tense due to the nature of work and long hours put in by many employees. Sometimes you just have to either let people go or put them in a situation where they will have to adjust their behavior to get along!
I would recommend the book as a primer, not the last word on workplace relations. There are other ones out there (John Maxwell, Max Dupree, Larry Burkett, etc.) who may give more substantative advice on dealing with people in the work place. Still a good read.
Learn the art of Communicating........2003-09-17
Well, Well, I find this book 'terrific' to say the least.
The arrangement of text(especially 'capitals') is simply wonderful. I learnt more and educated myself in the process. It was more like reading a novel. I would highly recommend you to read this book, but keep it away from the sight of 'Co-workers/Boss(for your own good!). I wish I could have a video of this book, I mean it would definitely help. Words once uttered, cannot be taken back, so it is better to polish it so that it conveys the intended meaning and gets the appropriate results when dealing with not only 'Difficult people' but everybody.
After some time, you will enjoy working with 'Difficult people', because they are usually the ones who have talents that have been overlooked. Take heart.
Only an OK book.......2003-01-04
There is some useful information in the book. The book is divided into many different situations and types of people and this is useful. However many sections are very shallow and it seems that the sections that deal with the most difficult people tend to blame it on the recipient rather than the perpetrator. Also, there is a tendency to helplessness in the face of the worst offenders, i.e. there is nothing you can do. In reality this is seldom the case. But the desired actions may be dramatic and have far reaching consequences. It seems the book is written so as to offend none when some should be offended.
Read "Winning with Difficult People" instead.......2002-04-18
Try reading "Winning with Difficult people" instead of this book. This book did tell me about certain types of people and how to deal with them, but it didn't go into deal about why they are the way they are to others.

Book Description
Experienced caregivers will immediately recognize Gloria Davenport's descriptions of the "toxic" personality: elders who persistently poison their own care environment with noncompliant and psychologically abusive behavior. Toxic older adults are often hazardous cases for gerontology professionals: they can destroy care relationships, and even produce covictimization in their caregivers.
Davenport presents ways that care providers can prevent difficult elders from manipulating the caregivers' energy and interfering with effective practice, relationships, and healing.

working with toxic older adults.......2003-02-21
This book is wonderful!!!!!!! It was as if Davenport knew my mother when she wrote this book. I am very happy that I got to read this book. It has made me very aware of my own toxicity. I now know there is some hope for me to change. Oh my God I am very luck to have been able to read this book ...
Must Read--So Helpful!.......2001-12-08
Real solutions and insightful advice for dealing with difficult elders. Dysfunctional families struggle with these individuals for a lifetime, now they can learn how to manage them. Another excellent book on this subject, written with a humorous slant is "Elder Rage."
You'll know if this is someone you love!.......2001-05-03
When I saw the title I knew it applied to my life and my relationship with my elderly mother. As I turned each page I had the vague sense that someone had been eavedropping during the time she was living in our household. "Toxic" described her interaction with everyone who cared about her. This book preserved my mental health! It contains clear descriptions of the toxic personality and gives guidelines for dealing with people who have this world view. If you are struggling with a difficult sibling, spouse, or parent, read this book. Protect yourself from this condition.
