The ASB3950U2W Dual Channel Ultra2 SCSI Host Adapter is unsurpassed for tasks requiring both an Ultra2 LVD and a single-ended legacy SCSI connection from one host adapter board (one PCI slot). The ASB3950U2W supports both PC and Apple platforms with boot capability for Apple G3s and G4s. The ASB3950U2W Host Adapter has both the AdvanSys ASC38C0800 Ultra2 SCSI host controller for Ultra2 LVD support and the AdvanSys ASC3550B UltraWide SCSI host controller for single ended legacy SCSI support. A PCI bridge connects the ASC38C0800 and ASC3550B on the host controller board; this virtually gives you two boards in one. The ASB3950U2W connects up-to 15 Ultra2 devices with an internal 68-pin high-density connector. It connects an additional 15 single ended legacy devices with either an external 50-pin connector, an internal 68-pin high-density connector, or an internal 50-pin connector.

The iBook is an elegant, highly portable notebook that offers a basic feature set at a reasonable price. With only 64 MB of RAM, a 10 GB hard disk drive, and a 12.1-inch screen, this isn't the notebook for power users, but it will serve well for standard applications, web access, and email. At only 4.9 pounds, this is one of the lightest notebooks around. It includes a 24x read-only CD-ROM drive, 56K modem, and 100 Mbps networking. Both the classic Mac OS 9 and the slick new Mac OS X are installed. If you are interested in Apple notebooks but are looking for more oomph, consider one of the DVD- or CD-RW-equipped iBooks, or one of Apple's superb Power Book notebooks.

Too slow.......2002-08-08

If you want to buy an iBook, buy a faster one. This one just can't run any modern software. Heck, it isn't much good for old software. Go for the 700MHZ G3 or don't bother! If you need to run any graphics software then buy a G4. My G3 can't hack Adobe anything! If I could go back I would buy a G4 based Powerbook (I use one at work).

I am one of those switchers (apple.com/switch). I worked on mac 5 years ago, loved it but couldn't afford one. So I have spent the last 5 years in the PC family. Just bought the iBook. It's absolute perfection. No problem to switch files, so easy to use. I now have an ipod, a digital camera. I completely (re)adopted Mac's digital life.
Have no fear to get rid of your PC and ride a Mac. You will notice the difference.

This iBook is simply amazing -- it is easy to use, can use both
OS 9/OS X. I had never really used a MAC before and I learned how to use this iBook very quicky. It's light to carry in my backpack for university.You can hook it into data projectors so you can give presentations. It never crashes and it's easy to install RAM and new software for it. I love my iBook. It's the best computer I ever bought! Most importantly, the design is really cool.

A Developer's Dream.......2002-04-19

This is simply the best computer I've owned. I've owned PC's and Macs. No doubt, Macs are by far superior. I wish I could afford another [$$$] for a G4 powerbook, but since I can't, I got this one. I can't believe the power, versatility, and the attention from others. As someone who writes software, and attends school full time as a law student, this computer does it all. My only complaint, hard-drive is small, so I bought an external firewire drive to store non-essential data. Dang, firewire is fast. Also, I have an iPod. It is of no "Practical" use, but try and take it from me and ....well.... the won't let me say it here. Let's just say, I love it.
BUY and APPLE, if you can afford a G4 powerbook, get one. If not, trust another developer the G3 is still kick - a**.
