Product Description
The Data Express DE100 is a steel-constructed removable drive enclosure for mounting 3.5 inch form factor, half-height (1.6 inch) or low-profile (1 inch) SCSI or IDE drives into 5.25 inch half-height peripheral bays. All Data Express models feature a front-accessible key lock that secures the carrier within the receiving frame. A variety of DE100 model numbers are available which support Ultra ATA/100 (including ATA/133) and versions that support SCSI Wide Ultra160 applications. Some DE100 carrier models support 80-pin single-connect (SCA) SCSI drive types. Options are available for an enhanced, bus-isolating "hot swap" capability (SCSI models) and/or a solenoid drive lock. Data Express is a product line of drive carriers and receiving frames that are compatible with SCSI or AT/IDE drive types and system interfaces. These modular subsystems house 3.5 inch hard disk or 3.5 inch front-loading tape, floppy, floptical, or optical devices for mounting into any 5.25 inch full or half-height storage drive bay.In operation, the Data Express SCSI receiving frame and certain IDE receiving frames, define the specific address of the drive. The Data Express drive-based carrier does not identify the drive address nor does it provide termination, the drive assumes the identity and characteristics of the receiving frame. Please contact StorCase for additional information. Data Express modules are ruggedly constructed and include a drive carrier lock and a drive activity indicator as standard features. Some family models also provide an ID select indicator and pre-integrated solenoid drive lock and/or fan. Options for an enhanced, bus-isolating capability are also available.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars No problems.......2005-08-27

I bought mine as refurbished from Compaq Factory Outlet in February 2002 and I got more than I expected for the price.

Unit still works (Well, I am no longer running games or numerical computations since AMD simetimes overheats.), I am suspicous about HDD that it is preparing itself to leave soon (just sound), but what would I expect from notebook with such parameters and price?

I use it frequently both as home computer as well as mobile notebook for presentations, sharing pictures, music playing etc. I have never played DVDs, but at least for the first year I used it for numerical computations using its full power.

1 out of 5 stars My 700 is junk too!!!.......2005-08-12

Overheats continuously in 10 minutes - Compaq knows about this pervasive problem and just wants it to go away with time. They refuse to do anything to help owners, and hide behind the expired warranty. Please do not buy any Compaq products and never do business with them again. If you are in IT, then please do everything in your power to pull major Compaq contracts, and support bids by IBM and Dell so that we can put this horrible company out of business.

1 out of 5 stars REALMENTE MALO.......2005-06-26

1 out of 5 stars Same problems everyone else had.......2004-05-27

I had the same problems as everyone else. It runs so hot that it is uncomfortable to hold on your lap. The battery life is less than a year (two batteries died total). The hinge cracks appeared after about a year, and completely broke through after a few more months so the display is dangling...I also got a quote of $800 to repair although the LCD itself is fine.

A couple things of things that weren't mentioned in the other reviews....the PCMCIA slot had no guide initially so the pins bent after I inserted the wireless card a few times, and the power adapter quit working after 1.5 years. Tech support was worthless.

Overall, this product is a joke. Avoid it at all costs.

1 out of 5 stars waste of money.......2004-04-30

We also developed the small cracks at the hinge site. The whole thing is broken out now after only 1 1/2 years. ONLY solution would be to buy a whole new LCD screen for $800!!! Yeah right, buy the same cheap plastic POS. They do not stand behind their product and do not care we spent our hard earned money on what looks to be a disposable product. If cracks appear in the plastic around the hinges, take immediate action.
