All information is displayed on a 3.5-inch landscape LCD with 320 x 240 resolution and support for up to 65,000 colors. During the journey, you'll also receive clear voice instructions to guide you, letting you focus on your driving. There's even an included remote control for even greater ease when controlling the unit's functions. The slim case of the iCN 550 is only one inch thick, making it pocket friendly. Plus, the 550 adds handy buttons on the front panel that immediately direct you to the nearest available parking, as well as the nearest points of interest (POI), such as a gas station or restaurant. The iCN 550's 12-channel GPS receiver is driven by Navman's SmartST 2005 software, which contains highly detailed local country maps for your region. SmartST 2005 is packed with other outstanding features, including 3-D map view, zip-code search, back-on-track rerouting (for when you take a wrong turn), area avoidance (so you can dodge the traffic hotspots), and, as mentioned, an extensive POI database. I find that the Navman 550 is a discontinued GPS
Talked to Navan. I sent letter asking to return product, as
it wan not stated, that it was a discontinued model.
The maps do not have updated maps, there fore it does not show
the 911 road names for finding rural addreses therefore it is not
the help that other GPS units are. Would appreciate being able to
return the unit.

V usefull, easy to operate right out of the box, no problems. I like that all the maps are there I did not try to download any more maps. Strongly recommend for everyone.

It Will Get You There But Not Always Logically........2007-01-10

The Navman 550 is an OK unit. The interface is pretty easy to use and its nice that it comes preloaded with US and Canada maps to save you the hassle of doing that on your own.

Positives:
-Pre-loaded with Maps
-Gets You There
-Affordable
-can run on a battery

Negatives:
-Does not work in cities (will not grab a signal in NYC or Toronto)
-Has trouble getting a GPS fix sometimes
Freezes
-Does not have any exit numbers for highways
-80% of the time does not tell you the next street you need to turn on to -will just say turn right in this many miles
-volume is way too low to the point where its barely worth it talking because you cant hear it

Overall the Navman 550 is an OK unit at best. If you can get a good deal on it (under $200) I say go for it but if not theres better GPS units on the market.
