The Basics

Hard Drive: The 80 GB hard drive (4200 RPM) is a bit above average in size for notebook PCs. It offers more than enough capacity for storing documents and productivity software for road warriors. You'll also be able to store a good-sized digital audio library.

Processor: Combining strong performance with efficient usage of power, the 1.6 GHz AMD Turion 64 ML-30 is uniquely optimized to power today's thinnest notebooks. It's also built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. It includes such AMD technology features as HyperTransport (which increases the communication between integrated circuits), PowerNow! (which enables longer battery life and reduced heat generation), and Enhanced Virus Protection (which works with Windows XP Service Pack 2 to better withstand attacks from certain classes of viruses). It also features a 512 KB L2 cache and up to 1600 MHz front-side bus. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.)

I Like It.......2007-03-13

I bought this computer refurbished and I got it and the CD/DVD drive only worked when I turned it on it's side and then only sometimes, so I had to get that replaced. Now it runs alright, it doesn't run Age of Empires III and that makes me sad.

Noisy.......2007-03-02

I have had mine for a year and in that year, I have had to replace the hard drive, the card reader went out and the fan is so noisy.
Sent it back to HP for repair and the card reader still doesn't work, the fan is as noisy as ever.
I have enjoyed the computer, but it should not fall apart so soon. Sorry, no more compaq's, it's apple from now on.

Lemon.......2007-02-22

This computer is a lemon. So many problems.

Seems like a great value until things start falling apart on it not long after you buy. My experience within the first year--bad motherboard, bad USB port, lots of bad pixels in display, problems with optical drive.

At more than $1000 (my version has more memory and a larger hard drive), this is not something that should be falling apart after only a few months.

Sent it away for service, which took two full weeks and it was returned without the USB port repaired and the hard drive was wiped and reloaded with the wrong operating system. Shockingly inadequate customer service.

HP really ought to be ashamed if this is what they have to offer home users. And woe betide you if you try to deal with their cheerful-but-totally-incompetent "technical support' in India.

Great Laptop Great Price.......2006-12-22

I actauly got this from a brick and mortar store, I had come looking to buy a laptop but the models on display where already broken (not a good sign IMO) or didn't have a good price to feature ratio. Then I found this one I had to buy it. It's fast, includes a lot of software, but aks what you want to install, and is tough.

Unfroutantly after 12 months the machine is starting to show signs it might need major repairs. Currently the laptop is being repaired by HP because of a screen flickering issue, the warranty proccess was extremely easy. I'd probably go and buy the 2 year warranty as this issue showed up two weeks before the one year warranty expired.

Great Little Laptop.......2006-10-05

I have two of these laptops, and love them both.
The only problem I've had is the same problem with anything that runs Windows Xp, it needs more ram. At least a gig.
The ATI Radeon 200m graphics chip is good enough to run older game titles like serious sam, and quake3 without a hitch.
Did I mention the LCD? It's bright, crisp, and clean and a widescreen to boot. (1280x768)
Batterylife is about 2 hours surfing the net, but only about an hour if you're burning dvd's or cd's. more than enough for me.
If longer battery life is needed, HP/Compaq sells a 12 cell battery for about a hundred bucks that extends websurfing to about 4 hours.
A note about HP/Compaq's support; in a nutshell, it's wonderful.
I've not needed them with these lappys, but in the past they've bailed me out of more than one jam.
They've even gone so far as to replace out of warrenty parts under warrenty, HP/Compaq rocks.
I'd recommend HP/Compaq to anyone over Dell and Sony.
