1 out of 5 stars don't do it.......2006-07-15

After I received my phone etc. I never had service. Many, many phone calls later with no help and no service I finally contacted the Florida Better Busness Bureau and got some help, or so I thought. Tracfone called me and had me send back the phone the card etc. and said it would refund my money. The received it July 1st (it was tracked) and I have yet to hear from them. Stay away.

3 out of 5 stars GREAT phone, GREAT service, BUT BEWARE THE TERMS.......2005-11-23

I am quite satisfied with the function of the TracFone we bought, and the service coverage is pretty good.
That being said, WATCH OUT FOR THE TERMS OF SERVICE. This phone is only for use IN YOUR HOME ZIPCODE. Notice I did not say "area code" but ZIPCODE. I was driving around the metropolitan area where I lived, and I noticed the minutes were being eaten up at a roaming rate with just about every call I made. When I asked why this was going on, I was shuffled around the ESL Customer service agents for OVER AN HOUR, and offered an additional phone number, then they finally told me that the calls will be charged at roaming rate whenever I am out of my home zipcode. My zipcode, since its in a major metropolitan area is _SMALL_. I found this to be rather insane. ALSO, this zipcode detail is NO WHERE in the literature that comes with the phone, it is no where on their website, and it is NOT in their terms of service.
Enjoy the service if you don't travel much, but if you do much driving around at all, find something else.

5 out of 5 stars Tracfone rocks.......2005-11-22

I bought a tracfone (Nokia 1221) a year ago and loved it so I just bought a second one (Nokia 1100) for my daughter.

The best way to use it is to buy the one year phone life card together with your new phone. The one year phone life cards come in two flavors, for those who use less than 20 min per month, get the 150 min plus 100 bonus min for $80, you cost per month is less than $8 and the per minute cost is 30 cents.

If you use more, get the double min card with 300 min plus 100 bonus for $130. Wait until last month on the phone life to buy your second 400 minute card, it adds 800 minute plus 40 bonus and 60-day life to your phone. If you repeat this cycle, you get 80-90 min per month for about $14 per month and $0.18 per minute call.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent phone if you are not looking for bells and whistle.......2005-11-17

I bought my first tracfone online last year this time and today I am still a happy customer. In fact I had replaced my 1st phone the Nokia 1221 with 2 new phones, one Motorola V170 and one Nokia 1100.
I'll keep my comments short and to the point:
1) Delivery is quick but better yet get your phone at Target or Wal-Mart. The price is the same, or actually lower at stores with the latest price reduction etc., and you get to compare/touch the phones.
2) I have had to call customer service a few times and the reps are courteous and call answered almost immediately. My main complaint is with the quality of the line itself. Looks to me Tracfone is using some VOIP service internally and the sound quality is terrible.
3) Definitely go with tracfone if your monthly usage is low. Like 100 minutes or less per month. This will save you money with no hidden cost like taxes compared to contract cell phone service. If you expect to use 200 mins or more a month, go with a contract service.
4) Nokia 1221 is a good simple phone, solid and long battery life. The cons are it's heavy, kind of thick, no vibration mode. Won't recommend it now.
5) Motorola V170 is the smallest phone they have, light, bright color screen. Downside is it's clearly made of plastic, kind of flimsy, dont like the external antenna. I recommend it for folks who like small flip phone.
6) Nokia 1100 is great and cheapest if you just want a phone mainly to make/receive calls. Very light weight, Nokia quality of solid feel, easy to use, can work as a flash light. It lacks a color screen and limited ring tones. I recommend it.

1 out of 5 stars You better yell loud .......2005-11-15

I got this thing, because it was wastable - something I really believe in, the whole world should be wastable and I won't have to take any responsibility for anything at all, just grab it and throw it when I'm done - well, I see I wasted my money. It never worked, and I tried all these codes all these operators are flogging, none of these people are competent, it's not a matter of responsibility, it's whether you're competent and not an idiot, hey, where is my wastable phone service, who's the idiot behind this, when are they going to sell a phone for five dollars that lasts forever and I can throw anyway - when are they going to have machines where I can just think and the machine does it, hey what's going on here, I though this was the 21st Century
