Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars great experience with tracfone for 6 years.......2007-05-21

i like this little phone. i had the v61, and when it died i got the v170. it works just fine, no frills....and when i have had to get in touch with customer service i have had little or no problem. some folks expect instant gratification with customer service, and they will never get that with any company. all in all, i would recommend this phone to anyone needing a prepaid service.

3 out of 5 stars ~~~Does the job for the price....beware of battery~~~.......2007-05-11

I have been a Tracfone user for over 7 years. For the most part it has been ok,not great. The phones are not the best. I purcahsed the V170 Motorola from them for $59.99 and then say them in Wal-Mart for $29.99. I keep my phone in my car and use it just when I have to, that's about all they are good for. Mine has said Invalid Battery on the main page since I have had it, they said you need a new battery, we'll it has said that since I purchased it. You can find the battery online for $9.99 and free shipping if you look around. The only reason I have this phone is becuase I'm not one to have another bill coming in the mail. I like the $19.99 every two months and I do it online or by phone. It is better to buy a tracfone minute card at Wal-mart and then go to the web-site to add the minutes to your phone. It is a good phone for kids because they only can talk for so long and then you run out of minutes and you would need to re-buy time,so they do not spend all the time on the phone which is good. I have had three tracfones in 7 years and this one so far is the best but the battery is not very good,be prepared to buy another battery real soon. Hope this helps!!!

1 out of 5 stars 0 star if I could.......2007-04-19

My wife and I have been Tracfone users for 7 years. Last month I did a research on all prepaid wireless plans. The result is we are now T-Mobil customers and I hate the fact I didn't do the research earlier. The facts:
1. Tracfone give you cheap phones and ask you to pay a lot. T-Mobile prepaid gave my a Nokia 6101 for free and my wife a Nokia 5300 XpressMusic phone for 140.00.
2. When you pay 100.00, Tracfone give you 1 year service and 250 min, T-Mobile gives you 1000 min and 1 year service. What's even better, you only need to pay 10.00 for the second year.
The choice was pretty easy for me.

BTW, Motorola V170 is trash. I had one.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT PHONE - DOES THE JOB.......2007-02-18

First, on the phone: Yes it is a very BASIC phone but for the phone "handicapped" very simple and easy to use. It does not have the big screen with picture clarity like the newer cell phones but then again, I do not think you would be looking at this phone for that or for any of the newer features todays phones are providing. If you just want a cell phone for calling, text messaging, emergencies, then this phone would be an excellent choice. Add a 1 year card (which comes out to be about $8 a month, use it when you need it, add minutes when necessary (the higher the card the better deal) and definitely register on the Tracfone website with your ESN and you will receive great deals from Tracfone on airtime cards and other products.

Now on Tracfone (and no I am not a Tracfone rep). I have consistently found customer service courteous and extremely helpful (although I really have not had to call them that much). I also have no trouble whatsoever on the website as some have claimed. As there is so much competition out there, I am surprised Tracfone has not (yet) provided some type of unlimited nights/weekend minutes to go with their phones but one could only dream. Anyway, if you are looking for a phone and/or company for a prepaid phone, especially for a youngster (or even with an older person who doesn't want to fiddle with a sophisticated MP3/camera/internet cell phone) then this phone would be an excellent choice. I use one at work but not on a constant basis so after putting in a 1 year card, I do not have to worry about paying a monthly bill or "losing" the phone number for lack of payment. When it gets low on minutes, you just refill it (which you can do by purchasing airtime cards, which are everywhere, or you can add online with a credit card).
Last, but definitely not least, reception. I have used this phone from DC to NY and have called coast to coast and have never experienced bad reception. As Tracfone uses service from numerous carriers, I would imagine if you have trouble with reception with a Tracfone, you would probably have no better luck with another cellphone from another carrier.
Hope this information was helpful. Good luck.

1 out of 5 stars very unsatisfactory.......2007-02-08

The Motorola V170 is terrible. The battery holds no charge at all. And Tracfone does not stand by their product. I called about this problem and they offered to send another, which they did. It was 'refurbished'!. I received my phone brand new, not used! It took 3 calls with very unsatisfactory customer service and I was never reimbursed or satisfied by them at all!!!! Stay away from this phone, and Tracfone!
