5 out of 5 stars Not dissapointed at all!.......2007-01-02

Having read mixed reviews, we nevertheless went ahead and got the Motorola V176 for Net 10 about 3 months ago. Since we use the phone periodically, but not enough to justify paying $30-40 a month, I definitely like the price.

You can't buy a card in advance and simply add on to your time like Tracfone, but the minutes still roll and a straight 10 cents a minute makes deciding which card to get much easier. I did find the SIM card a little awkward, a punch out card thing (no experience with them). It took a few minutes of fidgeting before it recognized the card.

Setup was much easier than my older Tracfone (maybe that's not too surprising since its been a couple of years). I just went online and it took just a couple of minutes, without several minutes of punching it codes... it was just automatic.

Service is certainly as good as any other service by my observations, and I've had no trouble making/receiving calls even in some out of the way places.

The thing that impressed me was adding my airtime. At first the website didn't work, but being unwilling to call customer service I realized maybe they wanted me to enter the cell phone number and not my home phone. I did that, added my credit card info, and walla. I expected several long codes to punch in, but the phone made a noise and all minutes were already added. Very simple.

Overall, I'm not a heavy user of cell phones...maybe 20-30 minutes a week. I don't know about all the features, as I'm perfectly satisfied with the ring tones that come with a phone, and voice mail/text messaging. If someone is picky about fancy features, maybe this isn't the one but it seems more than adequate to me. Spending about $12.50 a month to call all I need, with service that at least where I'm at certainly rivals my coworkers phones, I'm definitely satisfied.

1 out of 5 stars Net10 Service, beware..........2006-12-02

I have had a Nokia 1100 Net10 for 5 months. Simple and was the least expensive for my needs. Yesterday I went online to add minutes before my service expired; I have done this before without any issues. This time when I entered my IMEI number it was rejected giving me the msg that it was a Tracphone IMEI.???? I called the technical support and they could not help me saying I had a Tracphone when in fact it was not!!! I was so mad as it was obvious they could not help me, their reality was the info on the computer screen, somewhere very far away... After I cooled down I added the minimal on the tracphone website just to have a cell until I figured out what to do. I felt that I was a victim of a bait and switch opeation. If you ck out the prices of the Tracphone service you will see it is quite different, less desirable. I really like the phone but have noticed it is no longer marketed by Net10 and is with Tracphone... Bottom line is you get what you pay for. Crazy thing is I am considering getting another Net10 as it is still the least expensive service for my needs; beleive me I have looked at everything. If you want to pay alittle more for better service and still be 'pay as you go' look at Virgin Mobile. I had one of theirs for years without any issues.

5 out of 5 stars Hassle free set-up.......2006-07-03

The NET10 deal appears to be the best pre-paid deal out there this week. Virgin has a good pitch too (6.95 per mo. and then you must buy your min.), but I couldn't stomach using the phones they offered.
Nothing could be more fool-proof: setting up the NET10 phone from home. Walk in a store of your choice, purchase, go home and install the SIM and battery, charge it, go on line and read the directions, punching in #s and checking off the steps as you go. If you get tripped up there are directions clearly written that can be accessed from the same screen. Thank god there were not any of those FAQ lists to read through! Well done Tracfone/NET10.
Oh yes, make sure you buy from a store that offers a 15 or 30 money back guaranty on electronic items, just incase the phone doesn't work for you.

4 out of 5 stars Simple, good value.......2006-06-01

The best things about Net10:

- You can roam on Cingular, T-Mobile, and several regional GSM carriers, giving you coverage almost everywhere in the USA.
- The rate plan is very simple, 10 cents a minute always without daily or monthly fees. No USA roaming or long distance fees. Text messages are 5 cents.
- Remaining minutes carry over providing you renew your service by the expiration date. (Note: The $30 card is good for 60 days. It used to be 30 days. Some of the cards still say 30 days on them, but they will be good for 60 days due to the recent policy change. For low-use callers, the minimum per-month charge is now $15 instead of $30. Buying a 1500 minute / $150 card good for a year reduces the per-month cost to $12.50.

Note: The phones cost about $30 more than other carriers' phones, but as of this writing they come with $30 of service, so it's a wash

- You can see your account balance on the phone's screen. Other services you have to go to the web page or get a text message.

Now the worst things about Net10 are:

- The available phones are extremely simple (some would say lame), without cameras and many other fancy features.
- You have to use the phone that Net10 provides - some other services let you put the SIM card into another phone.
- If you only want a phone for very occasional use (car breakdown, etc.) there are less expensive alternatives. This service is best for someone who will use about 125-250 minutes per month.
- When you first activate the service, Net10 sends you a text message welcoming you, and charges you .5 minutes (5 cents) for reading it. (OK, it's the principle.)

Overall, I am satisfied with Net10. It's simple and it works. The customer service group is overseas and knows their stuff, but their accents can be hard to understand.

I got this service for my 13 year old daughter as a first cell phone.

5 out of 5 stars No-frills works for me.......2006-05-19

I use my phone to call or message people. Period. I'm 47 years old, I don't need "new hot ringtones" or MTV kiddie features. That's why I switched from Virgin to Net10. With Net10 there are no hidden charges such as Virgin's 35 cents per day charge just to get the true 10 cent a minute rate. Net10 uses three different networks: TracFone, Cingular & T-Mobile. Where I live, their coverage area beats Virgin.
