Product Description
How is Toshiba raising the bar in the notebook mid-range? By packing a Pentium II processor into its Satellite Pro 490 series - first kid in its class to have one. But this series sets itself apart in other arenas, too. Not surprising, considering both the 490CDT and the 490XCDT come with a 4.1 billion byte hard disk, 32-160 MB EDO RAM and SelectBay modular technology. Now that's what Toshiba calls high-end.

4 out of 5 stars unbreakable (got kids?).......2007-01-28

After I got this phone I didn't touch it for about 2 months. I had been a Motorola person since forever and didn't believe anyone could make a better phone. At first the phone felt cheap - so i avoided it. Well eventually I gave in and turns out it's been one of the best phones i've ever had. It's small, light and virtually unbreakable, my toddler has free access to it whenever she wants (I dare you to do the same with your phone!) It also has most things I need (calendar, alarm, sync with laptop through ir, etc.) Reception is good, battery is great (motorola could only dream of these battery times, two years later it still goes for at least 2 days - i have the 2000 minute plan...)
Now it does have it's drawbacks, of course, no bluetooth, it doesn't sync with lotus bloats (would be useful for me) and doesn't have enough memory (can't have pics of everyone in your address book) but the camera is amazing. Anyway, that's all I really like this phone recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars I washed it and it put it through a full wash/spin cycle!!!! .......2006-11-14

I am HARD on phones... this little one is my fourth phone and by far the best. I don't ask much of it... I'm not much in to texting and photos, so I can't speak to those things. However, I beat my phones to death... I regularly drop it, step on it, the works.

Last weekend I was on vacation & just slipped this compact little bugger in my jeans pocket with some cash and I was off for the day. That evening, I popped all my dirty clothes in the machine and went to bed. The next morning I was moving the wet clothes to the dryer and heard an ominous "Clunk!" in the washer... I immediately knew what I'd done. There, in the bottom of the machine, was my phone.

I was initially thought it was a goner, but my husband said to charge it and see what would happen, what could it hurt? It charged for a few hours and I tentatively turned it on....OMG, EVERYTHING WORKED!!!! Except for setting the time & date back to 12:00, Jan 1... everything was there... the few photos I had taken, all of my addresses and phone book numbers... everything.

I am now a 100% loyal Samsung buyer... my carrier might change but I will never EVER use any other phone manufacturer!!

4 out of 5 stars Great Phone, Minute Setbacks.......2006-09-21

I've had this phone for a couple of months now, and so far, no major complaints.

PROS: The resolution of the colorful screen is great (as is with most Samsung products, I have one of their mp3 players too). The battery life is OUTSTANDING. I've gone 4 days without recharging it and while using it constantly. There IS a way to toggle between mute and vibrate on silent mode (enter silent mode by holding the pound key) that you can easily access through the Sound Settings menu. I get great signal everywhere I go. I'm usually the only one amidst my group of friends who has a working phone when we go into large buildings. The phone itself is very sleek and small, very stylish. I've received many compliments about how good it looks. The sliding screen itself is well built. I play with it constantly and it has never gotten loose, still as tight and smooth as the day I bought it. For anyone who watches the Challenges on MTV, this was the phone where the cast got their missions on the Fresh Meat challenges. The resolution on the camera is great (for a VGA) and it also has a super-bright, almost blinding, flash (that's constantly on when turned on) that I've even used as a light source when looking in dark areas! Keypad is really smooth and easy to use even with big fingers. Voice recorder is also pretty decent.

CONS: Speakerphone really sucks. It's only of use when you're in a very silent environment. The quality of the sound with .mmf ringers is mediocre but not appaling. The little door on the earphone jack is very delicate. I've heard this complaint from many owners of this phone as well. Mine fell off a couple of days ago and I never even open it (this is a minor aesthetic aspect though, unnoticable unless you look for it).

Overall a great phone for the price. It's small, sturdy (I've dropped it a number of times and it still looking great), and very reliable.

3 out of 5 stars A mixed bag review.......2006-08-18

I have been using this phone for the past 6months and have had a mixed review to present.

Pros.
1. Small and compact.
2. Great speaker

Cons;-
1. I hate the mssg.-ing software. Its completely non-fuzzy. I used a motorolla before this and had an amazing software in comparison.
2. The hands free compataible with this phone sucks.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Style and Quality.......2006-08-18

I have had this phone for about a month now and am very familiar with its operation and features. When I first took it out of the box, I was extremely impressed by its looks. The black and silver contrast against one another very well for a beautiful finish. The screen is extremely large and very shiny when the LCD is not lit. It does collect fingerprints easily, but simply wiping the screen on a shirt or something for a few seconds cleans it right up.

A great feature of this phone is the keyboard lock. Whenever the phone is closed, the keyboard is locked automatically. No more key combinations to activate the lock. If you wish to use the phone while closed, simply press the two "softkeys" in the right order and you can begin operation. After the phone has been closed for about 10 seconds or so (adjustable), the LCD turns off and the time is displayed. In the sun, the time is clearly legible, but indoors or in low light you will probably need to quickly flip open the phone to read it. The keyboard is well sized (I have medium-size fingers) and feels good. If you press the right places on the phone, you may hear some very slight creaking, but it's nothing that makes me worry. You have to press pretty hard on my phone.

The flash is another AWESOME feature of this phone. I figured it would be bright, but I was really blown away. When I used it as a flashlight out in the woods one night, it was more powerful than a friend's "dedicated" flashlight. Honestly, I rarely use the flash as a flash, instead I use it in the dark when I'm trying to find something I've misplaced. It's an extremely bright LED and I'm very pleased with its intensity.

Coming from Verizon, I was impressed by T-mobile's reception and customer support. Also I have found T- Mobile's online coverage map to be very accurate. The customer support people are very courteous, even asking me for "permission" to place me on hold! They always treat me as a person and seem genuinely interested in solving my problems. The T9 text entry also works as advertised, no problems there.

The phone was bundled with two games and quite a few ringtones. The ringtones are nothing especially cool, but there are enough that I'm confident you'll be able to find one you like. Worst comes to worst, you can log onto MyTmobile and preview hundreds more before buying. I think a ringtone costs about two dollars to be sent to your phone. One downside, however, is that the downloadable ringtones all seem rather short. I'm sticking with the built-in ringtones for now- they suit me just fine.

Battery life tends to be about 3-4 days, depending on usage. I consider myself a light user, with normally less than 30 minutes per day. Battery life is probably helped by the fact that the phone never really needs to be opened since the time is always displayed out front.

The speakerphone on the e635 is very impressive. I've asked people how they thought the quality was, and they respond that they wouldn't even have known they were on speakerphone. I wish this phone would play MP3s- the built in speaker is loud and clear, so I'm sure it would do well. There is little distortion at high volumes, and the highs are especially crisp. (Lows don't crinkle, but they aren't powerful either).

Overall, I think the style-conscious user would be extremely pleased with the phone. A tech geek would be disappointed by the lack of Bluetooth, ability to play MP3s, and lack of memory card storage. But for the price (when I bought, it was free with 2 year activation), you really can't go wrong.
