The phone features a traditional clamshell design with a large and vibrant 128 x 160 color display with 65,000 colors. A supplementary 96 x 64 display on the outside of the front panel displays call information, signal strength, and more. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. Meanwhile, the top right side of the unit houses an antenna while the USB-capable data and charging port is housed on the unit's bottom edge. There's a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets. The camera unit, which also features a flash, is housed on the front cover of the phone. Meanwhile, a built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Plus, picture ID functionality lets you assign photos or other images to callers.

The VX5200's GPS location technology pinpoints your location when you dial 911. Perhaps most importantly for users in rural areas, the VX5200 is a tri-mode phone, meaning it can operate on Verizon's digital networks, as well as analog networks that serve many outlying areas.

The VX5200 ships with a calendar and a voice memo application. An alarm clock, calculator and alarm clock are also included, as is the very handy restaurant tip calculator. Never dine without it!

Imaging and Entertainment
The fun really starts with the VX5200's built-in VGA (640x480) camera and flash, which features a self-timer, multi-shot functions, white balance adjustment, and brightness controls. Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars i like this phone.......2007-05-22

I got this phone to replace a much older LG model that I loved and stood up to a lot of abuse. This one is doing the same thus far. It's been dropped down concrete steps, fallen in parking lots, even been caught with me in a downpour and it's still fine.

I get reception where my friends do not.

The phone is loud enough for even my hearing-impaired gram.

It charges quickly and holds its battery life for a very long time.

If you're someone who really likes new, expensive phones, this obviously isn't for you. If you want a cute, sturdy phone that does its job and will last you a few years at least, check into this model.

5 out of 5 stars SOLID PERFORMER.......2007-05-22

This phone was a replacement for me after my other phone dove into the washing machine...I can afford Blackberrys etc...But this phone is truly reliable, rugged and has never failed me once. I read some of the other reviews I do not think they read the instructions on this phone. It has a variety of ringers, and ways to silence keyboards, on and off etc..it is loaded with functions even voice activated. I have friends who have this phone and would rather give a child away than their phone. Eventually I will get a new phone...but this phone has been a solid performer if you need great reception and sound, a good camera, internet access, and the type of phone that is sturdy if dropped...and won't let you down this is the one...it is LG's best secret...if reliabilty and performace matter to you this is the best buy in the cell phone world..

3 out of 5 stars Eh.......2007-01-16

ive had it for 1 1/2 years and i cant wait for the 2 year contract to expire

CONS:
-the camera often goes off in my pocket and takes 50 pictures of the inside of my pocket and i have to delete them all 1 by 1
-on most Verizon wireless phones you can record sounds and use those sounds and sounds people send you as ringtones...not on this phone
-this might be an individual problem..on just my phone...but it turns off by itself and freezes in the middle of conversations and txting etc.

PROS:
-It is a good price for what you get...its the cheapest camera phone made by verizon
-its easy to use the camera and other features on the phone, such as the voice recognition, which is exceptionally great for a phone of this price.

overall i guess im just sick of it but its a great phone if you want to save money and have a camera so you can more personalize your phone.

2 out of 5 stars OK phone made worse by Verizon.......2006-11-22

I got these phones for my family one year ago and would like to share our experiences. Contrary to what some people are saying, the clarity for us has been fine, not exceptional but slightly better than average. The lighted display is almost bright enough to work as a flashlight in some instances and the mirrored area around the display comes in handy in a pinch to put contact lenses back in, make-up, etc. The buttons are easy enough to work and have had few problems inherent to the phone.

Enter Verizon: You should be able to transfer pictures taken with this phone to your pc, but Verizon has disabled it so that a) you'll subscribe to an extra service to be able to do that and b) if you don't, your pics will accumulate and use up battery power faster so you'll upgrade to their slightly more powerful battery. The battery life was never even average in this phone, but after one year a 15 minute call can run the battery down 50%, 2 hours of talking means get this phone back to a power source or it will die. Even if the phone isn't used at all, just sitting on a table will exhaust the battery life in one day. The standard battery is 1000mAh, you can spend another $35-40 upgrading to a 1700mAh battery which was not designed to fit so it will need an additional cover. Voice memo has also been disabled and I'm not sure what else, there has been a lot of rigging to funnel you into buying extras through Verizon. The plastic front display broke the same way, at the same time, on all our phones and instead of buying new housing we're looking at bending over and upgrading to entirely new phones now and hopefully being done with this cycle. In summary this was an average phone to begin with, but after the tinkering Verizon has done to force you into their extra products and services, it's just not a good deal. Save yourself time, frustration and money and just start with a more expensive phone with better battery life.

4 out of 5 stars Overall, good phone.......2006-10-26

This phone is great. I got it for my birthday and i've had it since july 2006. Everything works great on this phone, except i hate how long it takes to get to Mobile IM. I mainly use it for text messaging, instant messaging, taking pictures and placing calls. The text messages come quickly, instant messages are quick also. The camera is pretty good for this phone. When i talk to someone on the phone the sound is great. Although it shows up on the inside screen, I wish the picture caller ID showed up on the outside of the phone like my dad's Samsung a970.

CONS:
-When taking self portraits from the front, the picture is a mirror-image so it is backwards.
- No picture caller ID on the outside screen

PROS:
-Mobile IM
-Text Messaging Easy
-Camera Easy
-This is my first phone, and i think it's great for first time phone users
