I have four Buffalo Hard Drives (three at 250GB and one at 500GB). Over more than a year I have had ZERO problems. Very quiet(no fan), does get
somewhat warm. I use it for backing up movies, music and other files. I DO NOT use it with automatic backup software; I do all backups manually.
I have had Iomega and Maxtor drives that have failed. I also now have a fairly new Seagate 750GB external drive. It has worked fine; it does have some strange ideosyncracies(on/off button) but Ok.
Overall, I would recommend the Buffalo Drives above all others. And usually the price is usually quite reasonable.
