Amazon.com Product Description

This sexy slider from Kyocera is designed to be the center of all your good times on the go. With support for Virgin Mobile's "VirginXL" wireless content services, MP3 playback capabilites, a memory card slot, a VGA camera with flash, and a speakerphone, the Slider Sonic is a high end phone for high energy fun.

Design
The Sonic's sliding design allows you to reveal the keypad with a push of the thumb. The phone's 176 x 220 display supports 262,000 colors for stunning image and video viewing. The right side of the phone sports a quick camera button and a protective cover for the microSD/TransFlash memory slot (the phone ships with a 32 MB card). Meanwhile, the phone's VGA (640 x 480) camera unit resides on the rear of the phone, along with an LED flash. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button. The top right side of the unit houses an extendable antenna while the phone's charging port is housed on the unit's bottom edge. The phone also features a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets.

Calling Features
The Sonic has all the latest calling features folks have come to expect. The phone comes with built-in Virgin Mobile "superphonic" ringtones plus a vibrating alert. Superphonic ringtones feature real music tracks and more are available via Virgin Mobile's VirginXL service. Ringtones and pictures can be assigned to specific callers so you don't have to look at the phone to know who's calling. The built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear and voice activated dialing makes calling up to 50 of your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. There's also a built-in address book that can store up to 500 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers and email addresses.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The Sonic covers the messaging basics with support for sending and receiving MMS-based text, picture, and sound messages. AOL instant messaging is also supported. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

The phone fully supports Virgin Mobile's enhanced wireless content service, VirginXL. With this pay-per-use service you can surf the wireless web or download superphonic ringtones, animations and voices from MTV, Comedy Central and the hottest recording artists. Get content and vote in TV-based polls via the MTV area of your phone, or get jokes and updates from Comedy Central. With the Virgin Mobile Gopher service you'll be connected to real live operators who are ready to help you 24/7. Get driving directions, cross street info, movie times, concert info, sport scores and more. Need to jog your memory? Use Virgin's wacky song ID service. Press the Song ID command, point your Sonic towards a song that's playing in the room, and within minutes a text message appears identifying the song's title. There's even a "Rescue Rings" service to help get you out of sticky dating or other personal situations. And because the Sonic supports video playback, you can download video content from heavy.com made especially for the phone. The list of cool content features goes on and on.

The Sonic ships with a number of handy tools including a calendar, a calculator (plus tip calculator) and an alarm clock.

Imaging and Entertainment
The Sonic's VGA camera makes it easier than ever to snap good pictures and share them with friends via picture messaging. The camera features a built-in flash for getting great shots in low-light situations. The phone boasts custom Virgin Mobile graphics-- screen savers, wallpaper and menu icons-- that let you dress up your phone to suit your personality. More graphics, wallpapers and screensavers are available from the VirginXL service. Demo versions of Bejeweled and Tony Hawk's Underground are included with the phone, and a big selection of additional games can be downloaded from the VirginXL service.

The fun doesn't stop with pretty pictures and gaming, though. The Sonic can record and play back video (max video length is 15 seconds), plus it comes with a nifty MP3 player. Load up your favorite tunes on a memory card (or directly to the phone using an included USB cable) and jam out while you're on the go.

Vital Statistics
The Kyocera Sonic Slider weighs 3.88 ounces and measures 3.89 x 1.85 x 0.9 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.8 hours of digital talk time, and up to 153 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the AMPS 850 and CDMA 850/1900 frequencies. Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great Phone Great Plan, very few limitations.......2007-04-29

TO start this off, this phone is GREAT!

* Pictures are really good quality for a phone plus you can zoom in on them to get a better view if you set your settings correctly

* The Speaker is really loud, its amazing, i always get compliments on the sound quality and volume of my phone, people with sidekicks and samsung phones even get jealous

* Videos are good quality for a phone, they're great

* Battery life is great! I turn it on at 8 in the morning, I play my music full volume for at least an hour or 2 a day, i talk for maybe 10 minutes a day on it, and play random videos, and the phone doesnt die, it lasts me all day, and goes on low battery when i am already home at night.

* I bought a 1 gigabyte memory card off of Ebay for 15 dollars, so i am able to store alot of music and videos on it.

Some things that could be better...

* When you add music, sometimes it doesnt show up, and that is easily fixed by just plugging it in again and changing the name of the file/song

* The phone can only take 30 second video clips at a time

* MP3s cant be used as ringtones

* The flash is almost useless

Overall though, this phone is amazing, and i wouldn't trade it for any other. The Virgin mobile plan i have for it works great for me, im in L.A. so I have 5 bars everywhere, and customer service helped me with getting my phone setup very fast. The online account is also very easy to use.

I would recommend this phone to ANYONE who needs a prepaid phone and wants a fancy phone that does not cost alot or does not want to get stuck with contracts.

Thank you virgin mobile, keep up the good work.

4 out of 5 stars Good Phone.......2006-10-14

This is a good phone and it does a lot of things I just wished it was smaller and that the sound on the MP3 player was louder when using headphones

5 out of 5 stars Best Phone I've Ever had (I've had 5).......2006-09-23

I'm 13 years old, and I recently purchased this phone to replace my Motorola V276 prepaid cell phone (Had that for like a month, had to get a new one because they charge you a dollar a day even when you dont make calls. So it was way too expensive, it cost $45 in prepaid cards after only a month) Anyway, this phone is excellent.

Pros
-MP3 Player, Easy to get songs onto it from windows media player
-Camera Quality Excellent (when in good lighting)
-Cool Slider Design
-Expandable sd cards availiable (To make it hold more songs)
-Comes with a handsfree/headphones (Like the cingular's itunes phones)
-Amount of customization features (Slide open/close sounds, 3 screens
savers, Downloadable ringtones and graphics, about 8 camera sounds)
-Video

Cons-
-Video playback was better on my sony ericsson (but I don't really care about taking videos)
-Okay Service (runs on Sprint/Nextel service)
-MP3s cannot be used for ringtones
-Sound quality on downloaded ringtones when on med-high volumes (which is weird considering the mp3s play extremely clear when used through the phones speakers
-Downloaded Graphic Quality (it is nowhere near as clear as on the preview)

But overall I really love this phone and those cons are really not the biggest deal.

They have the JET, ANGEL, and the HOLLYWOOD. THEY will be coming out with the RAZR and the MOTOROLA Q pretty soon too.

4 out of 5 stars Great Phone, And Great Service!.......2006-06-28

I got this phone for my graduation. I love it. I've only had a few problems. 1) low battery life. (can't use camera/video alot in one day) 2) The screen might get scratched easily since its not a flip phone. The camera is great! It takes good pictures for a phone. The video is okay. I've seen better, but for the price your paying, im not complaining. As for the MP3, I've had some problems. First you need to get a bigger memory card. Or else it holds like 3-4 songs. And sometimes all the songs I download don't show on the phone. As for the service,(virgin mobile)its great!(Check them out at their website.) They have ones for everyone. Like $15/month for 100 minutes (if you barely talk everymonth) and for bigger talkers, $45/month for 400 anytime minutes and UNLIMITED nights and weekends. They also have 35/month for 300 minutes and 1000 nights/weekends. They have other ones, so check it out. The only problem with service, email is kind of slow. Personally I don't like calling places because some of the people, you just wanna tell them off. So I E-Mail instead. They say they'll get back in 24 hours. Not always the case. If you have any questions or anything, email me, slideslide765@yahoo.com. I'll get back to you in less than a day. SO basically to wrap up. The phone is great, and with a great phone, you get great service!
