Amazon.com Product Description

With a VGA camera, dual displays, advanced voice-activated dialing, and a speakerphone the Samsung PM-A850 is great for folks who want to take advantage of Verizon Wireless service.

Design
The A850 features a traditional clamshell design with an internal antenna, and a large 128 x 160 color display with support for 65,000 colors. A supplementary monochrome display on the outside of the cover displays incoming call information, battery life, signal strength, and more. The camera unit is placed just above this display, as is an LED flash. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad. The phone also features a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets.

Calling Features
The A850's built-in address book can store up to 500 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers and email addresses. The phone also comes with built-in polyphonic ringtones plus a vibrating alert. You can match ringtones and pictures with callers to identify them, making it easy to know who's calling without opening the phone. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to use the phone handsfree, while voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. Plus, voice features are speaker-independent, so there's no need to train the phone to respond to any one person's voice. And because the A850 features advanced voice recognition you can say the phone number you want to call digit-by-digit. Or say "status" and the phone will respond audibly with the current signal and battery strength, as well as the phone's coverage. Lastly, The A850's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911 (where available).

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The A850 covers the messaging basics with support for sending and receiving text and picture messages. When combined with the phone's camera, Verizon picture messaging opens up a whole new world of fun. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

Getting on the Internet anywhere is easy with the A850, as well. Verizon's optional Mobile Web package allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. You can check your e-mail, trade stocks online, compare prices while shopping, access flight information, get movie listings and find directions to the theater.

The A850 ships with a calendar, a calculator and an alarm clock.

Imaging and Entertainment
Get ready to take great pictures with the A850's VGA camera, which can shoot pictures at a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The camera also features an LED flash, plus a self-timer and white balance controls.

And if you need to pass the time on the bus or on the train, fire up a game on your A850. It supports 2D games written for the BREW platform. You can also customize the phone's wallpapers and screensavers to give the phone a look that suits your style.

Vital Statistics
The Samsung PM-A850 weighs 3.8 ounces and measures 3.3 x 1.8 x 1 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 198 minutes of digital talk time and 7.1 days of standby time. It runs on the CDMA 850/CDMA 1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

What's in the Box
A850 handset, standard lithium-ion battery, home charger, user's manual.

4 out of 5 stars Verizon samsung phone.......2007-02-10

The phone wroks fine.It loses locatan under domes wich you have to turn on a mode called locaten on. A few things in the outher rewwews are ture, but this has a user Interferace a quite alot of Verizon phones.I agree that the dizengene is not very good. But mine contunes to work fine.It does have a camera, wich does not have much space. If you are just not puting it in a hard loacan it will work fine.

4 out of 5 stars Great Phone.......2007-02-04

Well it could be that my previous phone which I had for a long time did not have near the features of this phone, however I love the A850 ,the one I have is not the two tone color it all chrome a mixture of brushed and high polished .The speaker phone work's good enough for me to just set my phone on the car seat and use it while driving. The camera is what I exspect from a cell phone w/camera the picture quality is good and the colors are crisp and vivid ! Most surprising is the battery ,I have gone three days with out needing to recharge this phone, of course Iam sure use and what you are using it for makes the differance ,I noticed the camera use drains the battry faster then just cell phone usage ! I purchased a second A850 for my wife and she also is a big fan of this phone,we both give it two thumbs up !

2 out of 5 stars This phone annoys me.......2007-01-14

I got this phone when I renewed my Verizon contract and I am not happy with it. I, first of all, don't find it to be very durable and some of the features aren't very convenient.

Almost a year ago I had it in my jeans pocket while I was outside in the rain. I didn't think that would be enough moisture to wreck the phone, but it was. Still, to this day, the thing powers off for no reason whatsoever. I have to take the battery out and put it back in. I realize I can expect it to malfunction if it gets wet, but I wouldn't think that having it in my pocket would cause such a problem.

Here are some other things I don't like about this phone: Like other reviewers, I will be standing there with a full signal and the phone won't ring. Suddenly I have a voicemail! If I miss a call, it isn't enough to view it when I open the phone to get the missed call icon to disappear; I have to actually go into the menu system. The phone before the A850 allowed you to record ringtones; this one does not. It allows you to record, but you can't set it as a ringtone. Why take the feature away? Oh, yeah...all those musicians are going to starve if you don't buy their ringtones. At least they have great places to live according to their lyrics and MTV's Cribs.

A lot of these may seem trivial to a lot of people, but they annoy me. The problem is that I want to now get a new phone, but are you kidding me that cellphones cost HUNDREDS of dollars?! I DO like the camera on this phone, so I hate to go back to my old LG phone, which was durable, recharged quickly, and never ever ever had a problem. I just may have to do it, though
