Amazon.com Product Description
Get everything you need and nothing you don't with the all digital Samsung SCH-A630. A handy speakerphone makes it easy to talk hands free, while support for the enhanced messaging service (EMS) lets you send text, sounds, and graphics to your friends and associates. Plus, voice-activated dialing makes calling your most frequent contacts a breeze.
Design
The A630 sports a slim, sleek clamshell design with a large 128 x 160 color display with 65,000 colors. Up and down buttons for volume control are placed on the left side. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. There's also a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets, while the phone's charging and data ports are placed on the bottom of the unit. And because the A630's antenna is housed inside the phone, there's nothing to snag or break off.
Calling Features
With a phone book capacity of 500 contacts, the A630 can hold all your contacts with ease. The phone also features 32-chord polyphonic ringtones. A vibrate alert silently notifies you of incoming calls when you want to be discreet, and a handy speakerphone lets you talk handsfree or hold conference calls. Meanwhile, voice dialing lets you call selected contacts with the sound of your voice. Lastly, GPS location technology pinpoints your location when you dial 911 (where available).
Messaging and Tools
Because the A630 supports EMS messaging you can send and receive text, graphics, and sounds. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile text messaging users. A number of handy software tools are bundled with the A630, including a calculator, an alarm, a to-do list, and a calendar.
Vital Statistics
The Samsung SCH-A630 weighs 3.6 ounces and measures 3.54 x 1.9 x 1 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.3 hours of digital talk time, and up to 200 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/1900 MHz CDMA frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.
What's in the Box
A630 handset, AC battery charger, lithium-ion battery, and user's manual.
Customer Reviews:
Avoid this phone.......2007-01-23
In my experience, this phone has horrible sound quality, regardless of the signal strength. The beginnings of words are cut off, and occasionally your own voice echoes back to you.
The ring tones pre-loaded on the phone are heinous, in my opinion. Also, despite what it clearly states on the box, I have not yet been able to download a ring tone. This has led to many conversations with Verizon representatives, who have been incredibly useless. When I brought the phone to a service centre, they said there was nothing they could do, and forwarded me to the sales department. The sales department refused to help me because I had purchased the phone from a "Verizon Authorized Dealer."
So far I'm still stuck with this phone. My latest option is for them to send me another a630...which still won't fix the ring tone problem.
Save yourself the trouble and avoid this phone.
yuck........2006-10-29
if i could give this phone less than one star, i would.
i got it because, well, it was free with the plan. that is the LAST time i'm doing that - i used it for maybe a day and a half before i was ready to pitch it in a lake, and i immediately went and bought a motorola. the full price i paid for it was well worth the aggravation i was spared.
my husband kept his, though, and hates it. it's almost impossible to hold a conversation because half the sentences get cut off, he has to keep the entire thing on silent because even if it's on vibrate to ring, it'll still make lots of noise if he gets a message, the utterly crappy selection of ringtones and inability to download others (as mentioned in other reviews)...horrible, horrible phone.
do yourself a favor: upgrade to a different model. the $30 or so will be worth it.
no problems.......2006-10-18
i know other reviewers seemed to have a lot of issues, but this phone has worked very well for me. it is easy to use, comfortably fits in your pocket, and has been reliable. it's nothing fancy, and i haven't tried downloading ringtones, but if you just want a simple, easy to carry phone, this one is great.
Bad recieve audio.......2006-07-31
We got two of these with our service upgrade from Verizon. They have terrible audio. It chopps off the leading edge of words and sometime drops out to the point that a conversation is nearly impossible. Verizon reloaded the software, no improvement. I talked to Samsung and got, send it back for a minimum 15 day turn around and we'll see what we can do about it. This phone has a serious bug in the software. Do not buy a Samsung SCH-A630, it's a piece of junk. By the way, one phone in our upgrade was a Motorola, it works fine.
Avoid this phone at all costs.......2006-06-25
Like a previous reviewer, I called Verizon customer service and complained about the phone not being able to download any ringtones. They instructed me to take the phone back to the store that sold it to me and that they have the "option" to replace it. So, if I get a salesperson having a bad day, like the one I spoke to today, you can forget that idea. The only way to do it is to make a scene in the store when there are lots of people there. Then you might get a new phone just so they can get you out of their hair. Keep pointing to the box that clearly says "Download popular ringtones" and ask them to do it for you.
