Amazon.com Product Description

With a VGA camera, dual color displays, and support for Sprint's streaming video and music services, the Sanyo MM-8300 is packed with features that take advantage of many of the latest mobile technologies.

Design
The MM-8300 features a traditional clamshell design with a very large 176 x 220 color display and support for 65,000 colors -- plenty of room and color depth for video content. A full-color 72 x 72 supplementary display on the outside of the cover displays incoming call information, battery life, signal strength, graphics, photos and more. The camera unit is placed just below this display, as is an LED flash. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad. The phone also features a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets, or a stereo handsfree headset. Detachable color faceplates are available.

Calling Features
The MM-8300's built-in address book can store up to 300 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers and email addresses. The phone also comes with 11 built-in polyphonic ringtones plus a vibrating alert. You can match pictures with callers to identify them, making it easy to know who's calling without opening the phone. Voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names, and a built-in speakerphone makes it easy to use the phone handsfree. Lastly, The MM-8300's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911 (where available).

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
Because the MM-8300 supports PCS Vision services, messaging features are robust. You can easily send and receive email, exchange text messages, or join a chat room. Support is built in for instant messaging clients from AOL, MSN and Yahoo!, so you're never out of touch when you can't make a call. Using the phone's video and still camera, you can take advantage of Sprint PCS Vision video and picture mail services. Plus, with Sprint TV you'll enjoy full-color video clips or live TV of the latest news, sports, and entertainment from CNN, Fox, The Weather Channel, and more. If that's not enough, you can also get streaming music from every genre delivered right to your phone.

PCS Vision mobile Web services also let you check out sports scores, get your seven-day forecast, check your flight status, and stay up to date with the latest news. Experience full-color graphic versions of popular Web sites or purchase and download premium applications, games, ringers, and screensavers to your phone. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built-into the unit-- a plus for mobile web and messaging users.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the MM-8300, including an alarm clock that can be set one time or daily, a calendar with a to-do list and scheduler, a calculator, and a world clock. You'll also get a voice recorder that can record up to 72 seconds of voice data or call memos. A PC synchronization application allows you to synchronize your contacts, addresses and other data with your computer.

Imaging and Entertainment
Get ready to take great pictures with the MM-8300's VGA camera, which can shoot pictures at a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The camera also features an LED flash and a digital zoom, plus a self-timer and brightness and white balance controls. As mentioned, the camera can also capture video that can be shared with your friends and associates via video messaging. The video unit records in MPEG4 format and can capture clips up to 15 seconds in length.

The MM-8300 supports 3D Java-based games, as well as other 2D-based games, which are available from Sprint's PCS Vision service. You can also customize the phone's wallpapers and screensavers to give the phone a look that suits your style.

5 out of 5 stars Great Phone.......2007-03-30

I started with the Sanyo 8100, and have kept this model phone all the way to my current MM-8300. It's very durable and has excellent reception. This is one of the only phones that I know of, that can actually work in an elevator or basement. It is a little expensive, and the extra features are not that impressive; so if it's a camera or internet phone you're looking for, this is NOT it. But if you couldn't care less about features and only want great reception, The Sanyo MM-8300 is the phone for you.

3 out of 5 stars Good phone but be aware - one mechanical flaw can ruin it.......2006-11-09

I've had this phone for about a year and overall this is a good phone but one thing I noticed right off the bat when I got it came to bite me a year later. The way most Sanyo phones sense that the flip is closed is by a small plastic piece on the face that pushes a small rubber plunger on the opposite side (you can see it in a zoomed in picture of the phone). When I first got this and really looked it over I thought "wow, I hope this piece doesn't break". I've been careful with it but sure enough the little plastic piece broke off and now the phone doesn't sense it's closed so the outside viewer does not come on. I have to open the phone to see who is calling, etc.

I really like the Sanyo phones but most other phones use magnetic or some of means to tell it is closed rather than a cheesy mechanical piece of plastic. If that piece breaks you're out of luck. I don't think I'll buy another Sanyo unless they introduce a design change for that.

4 out of 5 stars I love this phone..........2006-09-26

...and the only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I HATE Sprint and am switching to T-Mobile (I shed a tear as I say goodbye to my Sanyo). I originally had the red version, and it did die unexpedidly. It started shutting off on its own, and one day it just wouldn't turn back on (lost all of my numbers, which was crummy). But Sprint replaced it with the silver one (which was, admittedly, a let down). Honestly, I think my first one was maybe just a lemon because I have had NO problems with this one, so in spite of the problems with the original phone I would still highly suggest purchasing this phone (as long as you're set on Sprint).
Speaker/sound: AWESOME! Best of any phone I've had. Even keeps pretty clear reception when you're close to dropping a call.
Camera: Good enough for me - used to live near Manhattan and got lots of good celebrity photos.
Only con (besides Sprint having some of the worst customer service ever): I think the ring tones are stupid.
Size/style: Great - Matte finish keeps finger prints off. Fits well in my small purses.
Durability: I drop this thing ALL the time - no problems, not even very scratched up.

5 out of 5 stars Durable:my dad ranover with his car and it still works great.......2006-09-10

I love this phone. This is defitnly one of sprint's best phones.
I've had this phone for about 2 monthes and havent had any real problems.

GOOD
~Like i said my dad ranover it with his car and besides some small scuffs the phone is still great.
~ Has very easy to use features: it takes about three seconds
to go from normal screen to texting, camra or video etc.
~If you set it on low resolution you can take tons and tons of pictures (this is good for people like me who take pictures everywhere you go)
~Memory for storing names,e-mails, and everything else is plentiful.
~Seems to fit my hand perfectly not to bulky or anything
~Fits most cell phone cases etc.

BAD
~You get to play games(pacman, tetris and bowling) for about 15 seconds then your interupted and told you have to buy the game to play anymore

So if you want a fun cool phone !!!!BUY THIS PHONE!!!!

2 out of 5 stars Loved This Phone.......2006-09-10

I purchased this phone around 8/2005 in blue. Coming from the sanyo 8100 this phone's camera w/ built in flash was certainly and upgrade. This phone is full of bells and whistles like the walkie talkie, media player, speaker phone, ability to set the videos you take as video ring players and changeable accent plates. But after owning this phone for about six months the phone started acting like it needed an exorcist. REALLY NOW! The phone would start taking pictures on its own, the voice memo would come on on it own, the camcorder. The phone wouldn't allow me to make phone calls and the weirdness goes on. After a struggle I finally got Best Buy to do what they were suppose to do and send me a new phone under the extended warranty agreement that I purcahased. But they sent me a freaking silver phone which looked too much like the old Sany 8100 I had previously owned and all the other silver flip phones on the market. I became disenchanted with the phone and then it got stolen. Only to find out months later that it was my own freakin beloved niece who stole it from me. After getting my phone back I realized a gliche in the silver one. After deleting a text message it would always reappear. i deleted this particular text message several times and even all the text messages and after a while it always comes back. These phones cost fortunes but they are full of crap.
