Enjoy brilliant, professional color output. The Xerox Phaser 8400 series' solid ink color is truer, more saturated, and remarkably consistent, page after page, on virtually any media. Plus, it's priced incredibly low to give you the competitive edge of color for about the cost of a black-only network printer. The 8400N offers bidirectional parallel, USB 2.0, and 10/100BaseTX Ethernet interfaces. Additional features include 128 MB memory, a 100-sheet first tray, 525-sheet second tray, custom-size pages, Phaser Installer, Intelligent Ready technology, Embedded Web Server, Remote printing, Email alerts, Enhanced PrintingScout, PhaserSMART, Job Accounting, Usage Analysis Tool, Booklet Printing, and Smart Trays.
The Phaser 8400N is the fastest first-page-out speed of any color printer in its class--six seconds to your first page. Most documents are fewer than five pages, so how fast the first page drops in the tray is a key indicator of printer performance. Full page color at up to 24 ppm means you're never kept waiting for even the largest jobs to print. It's built around a high-speed 500 MHz PowerPC processor, up to 512 MB memory, true Adobe PostScript 3, and an optional 20GB hard drive for ultimate performance.
Features that Reduce Printing Costs

- Get high-quality color printed in-house, so you won't wait nervously for your color printing to return from the print shop.
- Fast Color Mode uses less ink and still gives you great quality color.
Features that Save Time
- PrintingScout provides instant on-screen instructions when the printer needs attention throughout the entire print job.
- PhaserSMART provides online troubleshooting to get you back to work fast.

Features that Simplify Printing
- N-Up Printing provides more than one page on a single sheet. Get one-up, two-up, or as many as 16-up printing on the same page. This environmentally friendly feature decreases the consumption of paper and ink.
- The cover sheet feature allows you to feed the first page of the document from a different media tray.
- Separation pages allow you to separate print jobs with blank sheets, making it easier to see where one job ends and the next begins.
- Collation allows you to print multiple copies of multiple-page documents in the correct numerical sequence.
- AutoFit automatically scales a page to best fit the sheet size of the media in the designated input tray.
- Watermark provides the ability to print text, such as "Draft" or "Confidential," in the background of every page of a document.
- Booklet Printing reduces the size of each page by 50% and prints two pages per sheet. It prints the pages in the correct order so the document can be folded and stapled to form a booklet.
Solid Ink Technology
An alternative to laser printing, solid ink provides a truer, more saturated, and remarkably consistent images on virtually any printing surface. Plus, Automatic Color Correction applies the best print method to each element on a page (text vs. graphics vs. photos) to eliminate compromise between text and graphics quality. Photo mode offers an incredible rich, image-enhancing color control. Solid Ink is also environmentally friendly and virtually waste-free. The proven reliability is backed by a one-year warranty and the unmatched Xerox Total Satisfaction Guarantee.
Is solid ink print quality as good as color laser?
Yes. In some cases, it's even better. Solid ink technology has advantages over laser in that it produces an entire color image in a single pass - eliminating the possibility of misregistration. Also, unlike laser and liquid ink-jet printers, solid ink printers produce consistently high color quality page-to-page and job-to-job on almost any kind of media - including everything from inexpensive office paper to special letterhead, coated stock, and transparencies.
Does solid ink print slower the more color you add to the page?
No, it's full-color at full speed thanks to the single-pass design of the latest solid ink printers. Unlike even the fastest inkjet printers, filling the page with color from top to bottom won't slow a solid ink printer down at all.
Can I match the color output to my screen or to other color devices?
Matching what you see on your monitor or what you expect from your final production printer can be tricky. But solid ink is especially good at it for three reasons: (1) Since solid ink printers can print a wider range of colors than most color lasers, it is more likely to accurately render the target color. (2) Solid ink prints the same color consistently, page-to-page and job-to-job. (3) Extensive color management is built into every Xerox solid ink printer and includes TekColor Automatic Color Correction, which intelligently optimizes the color of every element on the page.
