Llewellyn's 2002 Magical Almanac helps practitioners of magic plan their spells, festivals, and rituals in the year ahead. Wiccans, warlocks, pagans, and Celts will especially appreciate the 63-page daily calendar that tracks the moon's phases, lists what herbs and colors are the most potent on that day, and notes the dates of ancient holidays and festivals. The rest of the 384-page almanac features 90 reference articles on a multitude of fascinating topics, including how to use snow in magic rituals, a primer on divination, the folk magic of hair, cooking with magical herbs, teenage witch survival, and the art of calling animals. The articles are brief, concisely written, and well indexed, making this almanac an especially easy-to-use resource. --Gail Hudson

    3 out of 5 stars Wasn't impressed.......2002-07-26

Was pretty dissapointed in this book, kind of a waste of money IMO, I would not buy it again, nor will I when the new issue comes out. Wasn't anything there that I could not either get from my other books, or from the web for that matter.

I personally think it is a waste of MY money anyhow. It has some info in it, but nothing like what I expected or wanted. And just not enough information for daily life as a pagan either..
    ~Blessings~

    3 out of 5 stars Neat read.......2002-04-19

This was my first year buying this almanac. It wasn't bad but I guess I really enjoy The Witche's Almanac much more than this for it's ease to use. I use my almanac for getting ready to do spells and rituals and even planting and cleaning the house in a magical manner and this book is just not easy for me to pick up and get the info I need for that. But I did find all the articles in there rather interesting and fun to read. So that made it worth the purchase. I would like to see more and better info for teens than just the same basic stuff that is in there. As a mother of a teen witch this just didn't cut the mustard with either of us. The parenting articles lacked to. This will be my summer don't have anything to read in the yard book for sure.

4 out of 5 stars Lots of different info!.......2002-03-05

I haven't yet finished all of the articles but this is full of many different articles that are helpful for anybody at any level! Many different authors and collaborators make this book a very well rounded source of info. If you are looking for when the next Full moon is going to come, this book will tell ya. If you want to know a little more about herbs, this book as an article about some. Interested in Green Man Tarot, there is an article about that. So much info I can't remember all of them.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Reference!.......2001-12-24

Llewellyn's 2002 Magical Almanac is another great reference book for that special Witch. Daily correspondences for the magical worker, including moon phases and quarters, colors, moons signs and suggested incense on the calendar part of the book. Many interesting articles including those written by Edain McCoy, Dr. Leo Martello, Ann Moura, Raven Grimassi, and others referencing magic in all its various shapes and forms as well as the different seasons of the year. One that caught my eye, "Owl Medicine" by Marguerite Elsbeth, contains many Owl facts and myths. Again, this is chock full of interesting reading, well worth the price as a birthday gift or a Yule gift for yourself or for others as well.

5 out of 5 stars Love this diverse almanac.......2001-12-19

I absolutely adore this little "book" and look forward to it every new year. It is chock full of little tidbits and lore that is an absolute delight to peruse with its graphics that are detailed and lovely.

This almanac is more diverse with its cultures and spiritual affiliations than any other; in other words, it concentrates on more religions than just the goddess ones. You can find a different holiday for every day, some in Sweden, some from England -- it's educational and facinating to learn new tidbits.

Also along with the daily holidays, it gives the usual information on moon phase, astrological positions and tips on how to utilize this information to the fullest. Ever wonder if your little love spell is good on Friday? This tells you if it is and when it will be at its strongest.

Along with the daily information, the book is chock-full of history lessons, spells, herbal infusions (topical or consumable) and magical information in general. I found great cookie recipies for my Summer Solstice party that was not only tasty but reflected the occasion along with some iced Strawberry Mint tea that was just a hit.

I highly recommend this almanac if you've been looking everywhere for tips and information on magic and the craft in general. They not only offer your basic information, but contribute great ideas from other cultures and religions as well as history lessons from ancient Pagan pasts. A must for the serious practitioner.

    4 out of 5 stars Valuable Reading.......2007-01-15

Lewellyn's Matical Almanac series has been a must have on my reading list for years. They are collections of writings by people within the craft. Often providing valuable insights into the ways that other people think and do things, they should be part of any serious students reading.

Personally I purchase the newest one each year.

5 out of 5 stars Has anyone mentioned the food recipes???.......2006-01-09

Not only does this almanac offer a wide range of wicca traditions which are educational, enlightening and fun; but the FOOD! If you scrounge a copy of this edition, make the Harvest recipes, the stew, cornbread and pumpkin bars. YUM! I made these for Halloween (Samhain) using red lentils, not black (sold out!); and the food was delicious and easy to make. I've made the stew twice and always tasty. The pumpkin bars will be a Halloween tradition from now on.

5 out of 5 stars More than your average Almanac.......2005-08-18

This almanac is a must-have for the modern day Wicca. It has, among other things, vital information such as lunar cycles and Sabbats. It also has recipes, histories on various magickal subjects, and helpful spells. It is easy to read and all the information is valuable, yet concise. I highly recommend this book for the practicing Wicca and anyone else who is interested.

3 out of 5 stars An Almanac with Food for Thought.......2004-07-14

Each year Llewellyn provides us with an Almanac that gives us dates, lunar phases, moon signs, colors and incenses for the days and festival notations.

This year the Magical Almanac is 15 years old, and is still giving us the necessary information we need to keep our internal clocks in time with the seasons and the planets.

But the lure of the Magical Almanac is not so much the calendar, which is what we originally bought it for, but the articles.

There are a few well known authors here, and some new ones, presenting fresh and innovate insights into who we are, where we come from and where we are going to.

The theme this year is 'Magic from around the Globe' and reflects our interests and background with articles on the 'old ways' as in 'The Charge of the God' by Steven Repko or 'A Family Imbolc Ritual' by Twilight Bard. From the global material there is 'Pre-Islamic Deities' by Eileen Holland and 'Eostra and the Ancient New Year' by Sorita Loock. And just because; there are articles like 'Angels Are Like Buses: A Quick Field Guide to Invisible Beings' by Raven Kaldera and Tannin Schwartzstein and 'The Magic of Chocolate' by Lynne Sturtevant.

The material is as varied as the authors themselves, with a total of 80 articles for you to read, digest, agree with or disagree with, ponder, and maybe even come away with a different view of our world. There are recipes, herb articles, craft projects, spells and poems. This book is more than an almanac, it is a celebration of the written word by some truly good authors. boudica

All of the Llewellyn almanacs are a valuable addition to the witch library. Regardless of whether or not it is a current issue, the information inside is timeless and valuable.

    5 out of 5 stars small treasure.......2003-07-10

This little almanac is a gem. The stories are entertaining and thought-provoking, and the spells are easy. It's great to have as a reference even when the year is over, or just to keep as a fun book to read.

    4 out of 5 stars Great Read....Great Information.......2003-06-09

I truly love these books, they are always packed with lots and lots of informative stuff. I would truly wish that any reader that is pagan/wiccan to get their hands on them. Eventhough, they will be "out-of-date" each year, they are great to keep around in case you have to look up something. Highly recommended!

    5 out of 5 stars Always a treasure-trove of information!.......2002-10-26

A perennial favorite among all types of practitioners, Llewellyn's 2003 Magical Almanac is once again chock full of enlightening and instructive information. Among the time-tested daily listings for lunar phases, moon signs and festivals, lies a diverse and always enjoyable collection of practical information, divination techniques, myths, legends and other tidbits of wisdom conveniently organized by season.

There are a wide variety of topics available to the reader, from the history of the Jersey Devil to an article on "How to Make Magic Wands". One very instructive article, which demonstrates the usefulness of the almanac, "The Tools of the Witch" by Anna Franklin, outlines the use of various implements and ritual items common to the practice of witchcraft. The article serves not only as a concise review for seasoned witches but is also quite helpful for beginners to the craft.

The artwork throughout the almanac is fanciful as usual and every care has been taken to match up the art with the various themes and topics, creating nicely decorated pages and enhancing one's reading experience. The lovely art combined with consistently enjoyable and insightful articles year after year makes one reluctant to part with past issues. (I have several!)

Llewellyn's 2003 Magical Almanac has all the elements of a good friend; advice, observations, humor and intelligence - all wrapped up into one handy little book! Daria Heil

5 out of 5 stars Another Splendid Edition!.......2002-08-21

The 2003 edition of the Llewellyn Magical Almanac maintains the tradition of excellence we have come to expect from this useful, inspirational, entertaining and insightful tool. The actual Almanac section that contains calendar, time changes, lunar phases, moon signs, full moons, Sabbats, world holidays, incense and color of the day is useful for all manner of magical planning, as ever.
This year's edition is divided into four seasonal sections with a host of informative and entertaining articles written by members of the pagan community, some quite well known like Ed Fitch, Edain McCoy, and deTraci Regula, and others perhaps not so well known but fully experienced and versed in pagan practice and tradition like Magenta Griffith and Jim Weaver, both excellent writers and scholars, non pareil. This satisfyingly thick edition contains 80 articles and numerous characteristic black and white drawings and features a beautiful cover illustration of the Green Man and four Celtic-styled drawings symbolic of the four elements.
A broad range of topics including various spells, rituals, meditations, folklore, recipes and craft ideas make this book useful year after year and not only in 2003. Learn about using a magical intermediary or playing card divination in the Winter Section. Stir up some love magic or discover fairies of the animals in Spring. Summer delivers the folklore of roses as well as the magic of dandelions. Ever hear of Buffy, Summer Goddess of the Gym? Check her out here. Brush up on some feline folklore in the Fall, do a toe-ring charging spell, learn meal blessings, and meet up with Caloria, Fall Goddess of Potluck!
Whether, experienced pagan or a curious new-comer this book is filled with useful information and fun facts that you are sure to find enjoyable.

5 out of 5 stars Delightful as always.......2000-05-28

I always enjoy Llewellyn's Magical Almanacs because of the varied and interesting articles, the comprehensive daily calendar, and the size of the book. The 1997 edition is no exception! The articles cover a wide variety of ground and there is something for every magical background.

First, I think I'll start with the bad: Silver RavenWolf has WAY too many articles in here; 21, in fact. I love Silver and everything but that's a bit of overkill. Her articles aren't bad, but some of them could've been compressed into one larger article. However, most of her articles are good, with the notable ones being "Teen Witch: How Do I Tell my Parents?" which offers practical and usable advice, and "Dream Magick", a personal favorite of mine, which offers a technique for getting a message through to someone you cannot reach.

D.J. Conway makes some wonderful contributions, including some sweet children's stories and an article on "Chaos Dragon Power for Women." Other notable articles include biographies of Dion Fortune, Sybil Leek, and Scott Cunningham; "How to Use Planetary Hours"; "The Island of Pimu"; "Men and Isis Worship"; and "Recycling your Jack o'Lantern". The illustrations are great and fitting, with more hand-drawn ones in this edition. Poetry is also offered in this edition, with contributions by Jen Besemer and Jane Callard.

Highly recommended, I suggest picking a copy up if you can. You won't regret it!

    5 out of 5 stars i love these books.......2000-06-10

this book has different articles by popular authors and other people that practice magick. there are articles in here on the lbrp, how to consencrate a statue, pagan parenting, taking a sacred shower, joining a magickal lodge, dogs, bugs, etc. the middle part of the book is a calendar and the last part of the book is filled with advertisements. also be sure to check out the witches almanac

3 out of 5 stars Good, but I was expecting more.......2000-05-10

Perhaps I expected a bit too much from this book. It was more magazine-like than anything else. Some of the stories/essays included were good, others were of absolutely no interest to me. If you want all the zodiac signs, planetary movement, etc.. then this is good for you. But you can also get that off the Llewellyn Witch's Calendar and get more enjoyment out of it.

5 out of 5 stars Laughter, Love and Wicca........1999-11-30

A lot of people say that these almanac's were invented just to sell. I disagree, I mean look at all the talented Wiccan writers who add to it. Now I will admitt, some of the book is a little immature, but isn't Wicca supposed to be something that brings laughter? If it was just rigid rituals and ceremonies why would anyone practice it? And there are some very interesting articles in here, for example I found the "Choosing Your Craft name" by Silver RavenWolf very interesting. And as for spells, the "Glamoury Spell" was a great find. So if you like a little fun with your Wicca I suggest you get this book, it's definetly worth your money. And if you want to be a drill-sargent, I suggest you keep your opinions to yourself.

4 out of 5 stars "Real" enough....different but good every year!.......1999-11-06

"Reality" is what you make it! I always find good info and articles in here, some better than others naturally, or more "useful" I suppose...but fun to read and worth having nonetheless IMHO. I usually use my own correspondences and such for each day depending on my needs rather than the almanac ones, just my preferences, but I still buy it every year for the articles, crafts, recipes, stories and ideas contained therein. It's just fun to have around and pick up and read when you don't have a lot of time or want to get too deep, lots of stuff packed in there for the magickally-minded!

3 out of 5 stars Not very "real" but fun to read.......1999-08-07

The text wasn't very much what I expected it to be, but it was alot of fun to look over and read- like a magazine. The covers on these books are very cool.

2 out of 5 stars Fluff, but Fun.......1998-10-30

Boy....it's hard to approach these books. Almost any Witch can tell you that these books really shouldn't be taken seriously, and that is true. So the best way to describe such fluffy bunny books is "amusement factor." Face it, Llewellyn sold out long ago and started putting these Fluffy bunny books out on the market to accomodate the young wannabes, but I will give it this: they are fun to read. They are certainly not helpful, but fun to read. Give it a try if you are looking for a book to read that doesn't take the subject seriously. If you are looking to learn Witchcraft, find a better book.

    2 out of 5 stars Fluff.......1998-06-03

Llewellyn's 1998 Magickal Almanac is full of fluff, just like all of their books and almanacs. The _only_ useful part of the book is the moon phase calendar (which one can easily get from a more respectable source, such as The Witches' Almanac). Everything else is boring editorials that slander everyone who doesn't follow the "Rede" (not in so many words of course). I can understand how it would appeal to White Light-ers and Pink Rainbow Wiccans and other such superficial no-nothings, but I see nothing of any use to the serious magician or witch.

    4 out of 5 stars a magical potpourri.......1998-04-08

Great collection of short readings. Some of the historical and geographical mentions were a bit hard to digest, but it was good to get the background information. Fantastic folklore, information on the moon, crafts. Definitely worth the purchase! Blessed Be!

5 out of 5 stars Better than the Witches Almanac.......1998-02-13

This is the best magical almanac out there. It is much simpler than the Witches Almanac. It gives the sabbats listings and moon phases.

5 out of 5 stars A fun read and a good yearly magickal almanac........1997-09-23

I really like this yearly almanac, it is an entertaining and informative read with lots of different articles on all sorts of topics related to magick. It also has all the basics for each month, moon cycles, astrological signs, magickal holidays, and more. I personally like Llewellyn's almanac better than the Witches' almanac, due to it's user-friendly format
