Book Description
The Associate Editor, along with the five ARBA Advisory Board members, will compile 1,600-plus critical reviews of reference books, CD-ROMs, and Websites from the years 2005-2007 written by academic, public, and school librarians or professionals in the field. ARBA differs significantly from other reviewing media in its basic purpose, which is to provide comprehensive coverage of English-language reference books published in the United States and Canada during a single year. ARBA 2007 consists of 37 chapters, an author/title index, and a subject index. It is divided into four alphabetically arranged parts: "General Reference Works," "Social Sciences," "Humanities," and "Science and Technology." "General Reference Works" is subdivided by form: bibliography, biography, dictionaries and encyclopedias, government publications, handbooks and yearbooks, and so on. Within the remaining three parts, chapters are organized by topic. Thus, under "Social Sciences" the reader will find chapters titled "Economics and Business," "Education," "History," "Law," "Sociology," and so on.

Everything you could ever want to know about the past season and NFL history is right here in this wonderful book. I can't wait to get my hands on the 2007 issue...

Great book!.......2007-01-10
Book arrived on time and in condition described - GREAT BOOK!!! And GREAT SELLER!!! Thanks so much.
Facs in 2006 book are mostly from 2005, not all-time facts........2006-12-29
I never purchased a sports statistic book before, so maybe that's why I am so disappointed. I thought the book would have team roster histories and year-by-year summaries, but it mostly summarized the 2005 season. The book has plenty of 2006 info, including team front office management, roster, schedules, draft info, and coaching staff bios. The historical data includes extensive team info, but only the significant individual records/stats. Boiled down, nothing more than the 2005 USA Today NFL sports pages in one book.

Whether you're an armchair quarterback or a fantasy football freak, this is a stat-head's dream. What it lacks in sparkle it makes up for in a cavalcade of numbers, rankings, comparisons, and lists. Just try to stump this book: which team has the fewest fumbles in a season? The 1959 Cleveland Browns committed a mere eight. Who has the most two-point conversions in one game? Denver's Terrell Davis ran for two against Atlanta on September 28th, 1997. Who is the 20th-best rusher of all-time? None other than the underrated Freeman McNeil, with 8,074 yards. The Record and Fact Book also includes a season-by-season chronicle of pro football, bios of every Hall of Fame member, definitive team information from the 1997 season (and a play-by-play recap of that season as well), and the important stuff, such as URLs for each team's Web site and team logos. The only thing missing? What John Elway ate for breakfast (Wheaties or Lucky Charms?) --Tod Nelson
Book Description
It's the bible for passionate, knowledgeable pro football fans. The only record book authorized by the NFL and distributed to media around the world, The Official NFL Record & Fact Book is the all-in-one resource of vital statistics, information, trivia, and more. It contains the essential information, including: all-time NFL individual and team records; a complete listing of 2000 team and individual statistics; the top individual rushing, passing, receiving, and quarterback sack performances of 2000; 2001 NFL draft summary; game-by-game summaries of the 2000 season; official records for postseason games, Super Bowl, and Pro Bowl; active and career coaching records; active statistical leaders going into the 2001 season; all-time team-versus-team results; a listing of outstanding individual performances; a digest of NFL rules; and a special Inside the Numbers statistical highlights section, from road records for the past decade to highest NFL post-season passer ratings.
"An invaluable tool for those who follow the NFL. It's a concise, indispensable reference book that contains pertinent information I use on a daily basis. It's as important to me as my playbook was during my playing days." (Phil Simms, CBS Sports)
Customer Reviews:
Great book for everyone.......2001-08-09
This book is fantastic for everyone. If you are an avid and veteran fan, you will love all the information this book has. Regular season records, postseason records, Super bowl records, everything you can imagine! And if you are a regular fan, you will learn a lot with the information in this book. There is everything you want to know about the 2000 season, every record of every team, super bowl summaries, and even a section explaining the rules! And it's a great book to consult during the games, when you want to know everything about that especific player. Every fan must have this book on his shelf. 5 stars!
COMPLETE IN EVERY WAY! TRACES BACK TO THE ROOTS OF THE NFL!.......1999-04-30
THIS BOOK IS WORTH WAY MORE THAN THE PRICE PAID! EVERY GAME IN NFL HISTORY IS HERE FOR THE READER TO TRACE THE HISTORY OF THE TEAM. SEE THE RESULTS OF EVERY SAN FRANCISCO 49ER & NEW ORLEANS SAINTS GAME EVER PLAYED! (FOR THOSE WHO CARE!) I HAPPEN TO BE A MAJOR FAN OF THE SPORT AND ENJOYED FINDING THE ANSWER TO EVERY QUESTION ABOUT EVERY STAT YOU COULD IMAGINE! IT EVEN INCLUDES AN NFL RULEBOOK IN THE BACK, COMPLETE WITH REF SIGNALS! GET THIS BOOK AND THE OFFSEASON WILL SEEM MUCH SHORTER!
Nothing else comes close!!!!!.......1999-01-11
For the serious football fan you have got to own this book. I have every year since 1984 and look forward to every September not only for the start of the new season but for this book.
Still THE best NFL stats book available!.......1998-08-02
The Official NFL 1998 Record and Fact Book continues to be the best available NFL stats book. This edition provides great rundowns and scoring stats for every game played by every team during the 1997 season.
There is also a 4-page section on each team with coaching histories, individual and team records, draft choices, and coaches bios.
This 1998 edition includes a complete schedule for the 1998 season. This schedule is spread out over 6 1/2 pages with plenty of space for me to write in the game scores and miscellaneous notes. And it includes a worksheet to determine each team's opponents for the 1999 season.
Workman Publishing puts this book out each summer, and the 1998 edition is my fourth one. If you're serious about your NFL facts, then this book should be on your shelf!

Sometimes the old ways are the best. Sure, the Internet is a bottomless well of information, but anyone who's spent a frustrating hour or two trying to find a specific fact in that well recognizes the value of a well-organized reference book. The World Almanac and Book of Facts 2000 will tell you what you need to know in a minute or less, thanks to the comprehensive contents list and thumb index. Business, astronomy, science, politics, geography, and sports are all thoroughly covered, as well as highlights from 1999 and a special millennium section including top 10 lists from the past 1,000 years. A thought-provoking lead essay from Robert Reich on the struggle between technology and tribalism sets the stage for the rest of the book. Maps and demographic information give insight into the changing world, lists of organizations and personalities help us navigate the news, and the pages of data on everything from classic films to silver production are good for term papers and bar bets. Browse through the book and you're sure to find yourself stopping, reading, and learning. What do those TV ratings boxes mean? What is the order of succession to the presidency? How many people have AIDS worldwide? It's all here, for a lot less money than one month's Internet service, in The World Almanac and Book of Facts 2000. --Rob Lightner

The first place for all fact finding missions.......2000-10-02
Don't even think of getting through a year without the World Almanac. It's a staple of any complete reference book shelf and it's still a lot of faster than logging into a website!
All you ever wanted to know !.......2000-09-01
This book is excellent to people who are on a quest for information, or just love learning. This book will answer almost any question you might have: from what is the biggest US money bill in ciculation to what is the 13 ammendment to Constitution. If your are non-us, as I am, this book is also a must. Almost half of it is dedicated to world trends and history, from the complet list of roman empror, french kings and popes to a brief summary of every contry in the world. This book is a must-buy for every knowledge hungry people!
A Best Seller And Perfect Gift.......2000-08-24
Whether you're hoping to get on the TV show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", a grade school- high school -or College student,a lover of trivia, or someone who loves to read about a large variety of topics, the World Almanac is hard to beat. It has gobs and gobs of information in its 1024 pages, and has even made it to #1 on the New York Times Best Seller list. Here is just a taste of the delectable topics covered in this entertaining and informative publication: Economic Agricultural Employment and Crime statistics, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, Golf, Tennis, Boxing, World history, U.S. history, Science & Technology, States of the Union with information and history of each state, Countries of the World with information about each one along with a brief outline of their histories, Travel, Health, and Consumer information, and much much more. This book has so much neat stuff in it it's well worth the price. It lists the all-time television programs from 1961 to Feb 1, 1999, gives the estimated population's of the American Colonies from 1630-1780, gives the complete words to "The Star Spangled Banner", the words to the Presidential Oath Of Office, lists past Nobel Prize winners, has a business directory of some of the United States major corporations including phone numbers web addresses and mailing addresses, and has bunches and bunches more information contained inside. It is one of my all-time favorite books. If you want to read a book that you can use for years to come, this is one to own, and if you're a collector, be sure to pick up the next edition as well.
A Treasure Trove of Knowledge.......2000-07-26
If there is any fact that you want to look up, this book has it right here at your fingertips. It covers a wide variety of interests from sports to politics, from entertainment to demographic information and statistics. There is a full-color section in the middle with maps and flags. It is well organized with a thorough index, and it is easy to find the information you are looking for. This would be a good book for adults as well as children. This is a great reference book that we buy each year in our family(it is updated on a yearly basis). I recommend it to all!
A lot of valuable information.. but!.......2000-07-15
The 1024 pages World Almanac 2000 is real bonus. It contains a lot of valuable information.
My only criticism is that the Almanac has a real bias towards "American information".
As it is a "World Almanac", the editors should understand that non-American readers would like to see that it has a broader base. I'm sure the editors will rectify this shortfall in the next edition!

Customer Reviews:
not a WORLD almanac.......2005-04-09
First of all, this will be a great almanac for you if you are focusing only on US studies. This book contains everything from main events to average teacher salaries, and many other useful (and weird) facts of the united states. However, when i tried to look up information on India and Argentina, it contains very few information. I'll guess that 97% of the book focuses only on America and have minor out-of-date information on other countries. Two stars is for the indepth info on united states, and the missing three stars are for naming the book "world" almanac even though it does not focus on the world. May as well be the United States Almanac for the hunnger-for-weird-facts.
The Almanac and the Internet .......2004-12-08
I have for years been a purchaser and reader of the World Almanac. As a child I loved to read 'facts' and this provides much reading of that kind. Consider for instance its lists of distinguished writers painters spiritual figures. Or consider its country portraits with statistics on basic characteristics of political life and economy. My sense however is that with the coming of the Internet the ' Almanac ' is not quite as vital a tool as it was once felt to be. My sense is that the Information given in the Almanac can be found in the Internet in a quick search. And that for those people who sit and work with their computers a good part of the day , the Almanac would be much less looked at. This does not mean it should be discarded and that many including myself will not continue to purchase it. It is after all much more pleasant to shlep around with a book than with a computer. But the Internet and the 'Information Age' have made ' facts cheap' and made much of this information so easily available and readily duplicable that the resource simply is not the kind of special value it used to be.
The World Almanac of 2004.......2004-09-02
This volume is an excellent compilation of relevant facts pertaining to comparative statistics at the turn of the new century. There are comprehensive lists of the Congress,
Executive and Judiciary staffs and functions. There is a

The problem with this reference manual is in certain points when it has to give a history, you have actual misinformation, they say certain leaders were elected when they didn't allow real opposition or the book takes sides in conflicts to the end of offering "balance" at the expense of accuracy. This is my favorite almanac. It is compact, easy to use, with well organized information. I think it is more complete than other almanacs, offering extensive coverage of the US Presidents, elections, and a state by state breakdown of Presidential elections since 1952, even going so far as a county by county breakdown in the hotly contested 2000 election. It has excellent sports coverage, as well as arts and entertainment. It presents the US Constitution in its entirety, along with brief synopses of landmark Supreme Court Decisions. This almanac also provides a short history of the National Anthem and the contentious Pledge of Allegiance, which had "under God" amended to it in 1954. It is packed with other vital information such as a breakdown of membership of religious groups in the US, the location of these religious groups headquarters, and a record of Easter Sundays up to 2100, so that you can plan ahead for this ever-shifting holiday. There is a very good section on health and nutrition, including dietary requirements for children and other salient information on how to better maintain your health. And, there is a comprehensive section on the nations of the world, including many timely statistics that will clue you into the demographics of the vast multitude of people. In short, everything you need to know to keep abreast if this ever-changing world we live in, as well as help you solve the NY Times crossword puzzle.
