Customer Reviews:
Love these maps.......2007-06-08
Not really sure how much more good I can say about these maps.
I have one for most of the cities I travel too and really like the amount of Paris covered on this map.
The cartography is very easy to read and the street indexing is very helpful.
Buy!
helpful map.......2007-05-29
Not the best map of the city, but good. It's better than nothing thats for sure.
A Handy Pocket Map of Paris.......2007-05-17
This clearly printed, sturdy little map saves you from carrying a heavy guidebook everywhere. You can stash it easily in a pocket and refer to it in a flash. It covers only central Paris which is mainly where you'll be if you are only there for a few days. If you go out to the Bois de Boulogne or Pere La Chaise you'll have to bring the guidebook or do what Parisians do and pick up a copy of Paris Pratique at the local book store.
Great help in Paris.......2007-04-23
I mutilated the metro map from the hotel desk. This laminated map was a great help in locating where we were and where we were going. Love it.
The ONLY map you need to get around!.......2007-04-09
I bought this because of the rave reviews and they proved to be true! This is the only map you need to get around Paris and the metro. Convenient and the coating makes it nice so it doesn't get that worn, fall-apart feel of paper maps. We used this to get everywhere by foot and metro. BEST buy for the trip!

Customer Reviews:
Rockin' Walks.......2006-01-04
I bought these cards just before my first trip to Paris in December. My thoughts and a few lessons learned:
1) How to use the cards is a small challenge -- to use them most successfully, you need to have a compass to make sure that you don't start off in the mirror-image, or upside down direction. It took a couple of course corrections before we got on track with the first walk we tried. That said, the level of detail on the maps was very good - far better than some of the maps the tourist outfits handed us where we sometimes found ourselves "off the map". The street numbers are accurate, the landmarks are solid, the visual scale and detail of the maps line up very well in comparison to what you'll actually encounter when walking the streets. If the map says street A is 3 streets up and at a 30 degree angle, it generally is.
2) I needed to plan out with some detail which cards to use beforehand because they're kind of awkward to work with when you're out and about. Carrying around the whole box all the time didn't seem very practical. You can't exactly quickly flip through for the card that covers any landmark you might happen to find yourself at either. I typically decided where I wanted to go ahead of time, and then looked around for the corresponding card(s) at the hotel and put those in my pocket. The cards are very durable -- for hanging out in my pocket, they showed little wear and didn't bend much at all.
3) The suggested stops, shops and activities were, in my opinion, very thoughtful and interesting. My companion, however, was a little cynical and assumed that the sites listed were the ones that paid the most to get on the cards. I don't know if he's right, but for instance, I did note that the cards suggest a lot of cafes by name - they do not suggest many/hardly any restaurants and those they do mention, like Brasserie Lorraine, seemed to be objects of visual interest (the oyster display and lobster tanks) rather than menu endorsements. I will say, having made a winter trip to Paris, that the walking tour season is a little lackluster. Some of the things the card recommends (like eating a leisurely meal outside) seemed a little more plausible when the temperatures climbed out of the single digits.
Pick a card and have an adventure!.......2004-10-15
My husband and I received these walking cards as a gift before our first trip to Paris. The cards are are larger than a deck of cards-I believe about 4x6 and have a map on one side and then a walk on the otherside, which starts at the top with a description, followed by the Metro stop that you will need to get off on to start your adventure. The card then lays out your walk, including sites to see, (both on the beaten path and off), cafes or restaurants to visit and areas of interest. Each card leads you back to the closest metro stop.
We found these cards very useful, both in planning our trip, by reading the cards and finding the areas that interested us most, to choosing cards before each day started to tuck into our pockets so we had our information with us.
I used these cards in conjunction with the DK Eyewitness guide, and was able to make a list of sites to see, and then looked through my pack of cards before leaving on the trip and coordinating the sites with the cards that matched each site we hoped to see. That way, I could easily choose, say the Louvre for my adventure that day, and next to the site, was my corresponding card #. This worked very, very well and allowed us to plan our trip with a minimum of hassle. The cards are also available for the city of New York, and when I plan a trip there I plan to buy the cards for that site as well.
These cards are fantastic and I highly recommend them to use in conjunction with the DK Travel guides.
Pick a card and have an adventure!!!!!

Customer Reviews:
This is the map to use IF you plan to drive in FRANCE.......2007-05-20
Michelin map played a critical part in ensuring successful vacation. Two friends and I rented a car in AVIGNON - right near new TVG just south of town. We drove thru most of Provence (Luberon and Vauclause) and Cote de Sur (St Tropez) taking many day trips from both St Remy and Crillon le Brave.
NOT all small routes are indicated with rt #s - you will see the RT on the map just not assigned #. this proved to be an issue twice with novice map reader.
SAFETY TIP if you plan to drive - many designated routes are really one lane - though not labeled as such in actual road signage. be prepared to be gracious about ceding "right of way".
Poor service -- very poor follow-up........2006-08-28
As part of a $250.00 order, I ordered the Michelin France Provence map in English, and the Michelin 2006 Red Guide France: Hotels and Restaurants in English - both Items they sent me were written in French, which are of no value to me. I requested a shipping label to return the map and the book and asked they send me the English versions. The Amazon Outsourcing Desk in India refused both request. I requested an American Amazon Customer Service Manager contact me on this Issue. That has never happened. I am also being asked my Satisfaction on a 3d book - Markets Of Provence - which they never sent me. The remainder of my $250.00 order were the English Versions, as ordered. My Overall Satisfaction: Well below the 1 Star shown. Actual Satisfaction "F Minus" for all departments in Amazon and far less for their very poor Customer Service and lack of ethical follow-up for their mistake.

Reprint of 1947 historical map Legend/Key in French and English
Customer Reviews:
michelin battle of nomandy map no.102.......2006-08-03
very interesting purchase. its actually a map you used to get in gas stations. shows where bunkers are & VERY detailed road, towns, & terain. not much on where battles fought & also from 1947. there are probably lots of changes to map now, but still for the money i like it.
Review of Michelin Battle Map of Normandy.......2005-10-25
This map is a valuable companion to any book on Operation Overlord and the follow on operations in Normandy. It allows the reader to maintain geographical awareness when reading of the military operations taking place in various locations.
Normandy Map 102.......2005-08-04
Excellent. I consider myself a World War II in Europe "fan", try to read all the books I can. This has certainly made many of them more meaningful since I can now pinpoint locations in them. Read about this map when Time published their 60 yr anniversary of D-day issue. Tom Hanks mentioned it, but I hadn't been able to find it. Googled, and there it was. Amazon came through again.
Great for a trip or just on your wall.......2002-07-28
This is a great map of the Normandy area with locations, dates, routes, sectors, etc. of the invastion marked on it. It even has a short timeline. Some of the overprinting can be hard on the eyes and the amount of detail can be overwhelming but it is still very well done. Very useful if you are visitng the area or just want to hang it on your wall for show or for use as a reference while you read.
Normandy - A Historic View.......2000-08-28
I found this map to be a priceless aid in the study of the invasion when used in conjuction with books and outlines on the various battles. The stories of individual actions found in historic writings come alive when followed with this map. It clearly shows dates and locations of advances of the Allied Forces and shows Normany the way it was in 1944. We used this map to plan where we wanted to spend our time in Normandy and the sights we wanted to see. But do not use this map as a motor guide as roads and highways have changed. In short, a great tool.

Disappointing.......2007-05-31
Imagine my surprise when I opened the 2007 Paris Red Guide & saw pink pages with what looked like long paragraphs of restaurant & hotel reviews IN ENGLISH! And there was also a fold-out map in the back which covered more of the central city than my "Streetwise Paris" (though not with the same street comprehensiveness). But my delight turned to extreme disappointment when I realized this was NOT the exhaustive Paris Red Guide that my 2006 edition was. No restaurants without stars are included in the 2007, & no hotels less than 2 stars are listed. Since Michelin's ratings are already a selection of the total number of possible eating & hotel establishments, this 2007 guide is a slice of a slice & is not satisfactory for the tourist who relies on Michelin to make suggestions for places that are fine but not necessarily top notch (read "expensive"). For those who want to see all restaurants in a particular arrondissement, the arrangement within the guide is also annoying, as the main portion of the guide is arranged by number of stars, with the best places listed first. This requires one to refer back & forth from the listing by arrondissement (in the back) to the full treatment in the front. This is a waste of money, from my point of view!

Popular and portable, The Paris Mapguide-now in its second edition-contains everything visitors need to know to enjoy themselves in, get the best out of, and find their way around Paris. Its colorful, informative maps are easy to read and convenient to handle-no unfolding necessary. As terrific as the easily readable maps are, however, there is much more here. Packed into these 64 pages is a surprising amount of information about the many different sights and activities to see and do in and around the City of Light.
Customer Reviews:
Best Guide .......2007-06-11
We went all over Paris using this mapguide. It was the best map for a large city that I ever used. It was our first ime to Paris and I was very comfortable getting around. I would highly recommend the Paris mapguide. We also used the London mapguide also and were just as pleased.
Paris maps.......2007-04-07
tOGETHER WITH ITS COMPANION LONDON MAPGUIDE, AN EXTREMELY CONVENIENT, COMPLETE AND USEABLE MAP OF THE CITIES. POCKET SIZE AND VERY HELPFUL-HAVEN'T FOUND BETTER.
Easily the Best.......2006-08-25
I've traveled to Paris 6 times. Four of those leading groups. This 'map' is the best you can get. The size is ideal. As a traveler, fold-out maps are awkward and easily single one out as a "tourist" for all the hawkers in the immediate vicinity. This saves you a lot of grief. Second: the detail in the maps is superb. From boulevards to alleys - it's all there and easy to get to. The only downside is absence of a large scale single frame view of the city, but this is really minor for regular use - there is an index. Get this one among the first for your Paris trip. It is invaluable.
I wouldn't leave home without it.......2006-08-13
This is the best map book i have ever found the huge fold out ones are a pain to use when you are on a street corner trying to figure out how to get to where you are going.
The main thing is that it has every single street a lot of tourist maps do not which is essential if you do a lot of walking in Paris which you will if you really want to get the feel of the city. It also means that you can wander around wherever you feet lead you and when you want to go back to your hotel just find the nearest metro station on the map and go home without the map you could be a block away from the nearest metro station and not find it . Another wonderful feature is that all the hotels are marked by little black squares this allows you to see exactly where your hotel is when selecting one since for me location is everything. I have been to Paris 4 times and would not leave home without it. Most tourists don't go outside the area covered by it and the ones they do go to like Versailles are listed with maps etc. It also has great practical information such as info on street markets including metro stops and department stores as well as the usually tourist attractions and actually lists more with brief descriptions than most full size tour guide books. I can't recommend it high enough. they also indicate on the map where the metro and RER stops are the bus stops which most maps do not even monuments and jazz clubs parks everything. Paris is best seen on foot and for that again this map book is essential. I use the book to figure the best way to get to a location using the metro map go there explore the neighborhood and then find the nearest metro stop and return to the hotel It is fantastic!!!!
Other good guides for practical are Rick Steves, Hotels Frommers and detailed about the people the full size Insight guides and for detailed descriptions the DK or Knoph guides of These Only Rick steves is good for information you really need. Most other guide books spend too much time on hotel and restaurant recommendations and very little on the place itself. And Fodors are a waste of money. Let's go isn't that helpful unless you are gay because it lists all the gay friendly places in a location I would say read rick steves first then to really get the feel for a place read the full size Insight guides. Put to get around use the Paris mapguide. I wish every city had one. I don't know where I got it first I got my original one years before i actually went and it was still helpful streets and metro stops and even hotels don't change location much in the main part of Paris
best Paris map ever.......2006-07-13
This is my favorite map of Paris. I have used it now on at least 4 trips to Paris. It is light and portable enough to carry around all day walking, and it is like the Thomas Guide equivalent of Paris in that you can look up a street in the index and locate it precisely on the map. It comes in handy when you have an address (ie of a restaurant or store that you want to visit)and have no idea where it is. There is also a subway map and a map of all the arrondisemonts. This has got to be the best map ever!! I wish every city had a map like this.

Customer Reviews:
Accurate but not suitable for most driving situations.......2006-10-19
I have no complaints about the accuracy, legibility, and clarity of this map [and others in the series]. But I've just returned from a month in France and Italy, navigating backroads to restaurants, gites, and country houses, and this map failed me in one important way: it is too small for driving except between big cities. France has a wonderfully logical street system [excluding the impossible complications of the pre-modern cities, of course] and is one of the easiest countries to drive in. But everything is densely packed into small areas for which the scale of this map is simply insufficient. It is simply impossible to navigate in Europe at this scale. If you buy this map for navigation, be sure to supplement it with one of the many large-scale, spiral-bound books available, preferrably also by Michelin, as others can be terribly inaccurate. American drivers are dismayed by the weirdly abstract and opaque signage system used in France, and unless you're bilingual, it's hard to keep up with street signs at driving speed. Tailgating is the rule, so you can't really slow down to read most of the time. So you must have a bigger map than this one, and spiral bound is most convenient.
And if you're planning on driving in Italy... Really, I have to recommend that you hire a local. Italy can be a nightmare of bad signage, decayed infrastructure, disgruntled public servants, and the twistiest damned roads this side of the Hindu Kush. No map will save you in Italy. You have to be born there, I think.

bought this as a gift.......2007-02-25
and my mom said it was invaluable on her trip!
My Map Has Been to Paris 4 Times.......2005-07-05
Though I've only traveled to Paris once, my map has guided family and friends through Paris three times without me. The map pictured in the current listing looks a bit different than the traditional green covered Lonely Planet city map series (which is the version I bought a few years ago), but I imagine that if anything that the new version is better.
This was my first European laminated city map, and I (a non-French speaker) was able to navigate around Paris (both on foot and the metro) with complete ease! While in Paris I was staying in Montmartre (near the Basilique du Sacre C'ur) and was happy that in addition to the area around the Seine (where most tourists visit and should), that the city map had detailed blow-up views.
My family and friends also found the map very useful. It is light weight, durable, and water proof - all important considerations when traveling in Europe. Furthermore, the map is useful in retracking your footsteps after your trip. With many small monuments and street names, in addition to all the major attractions, years later I can still trace out my stay in Paris.
Easy Paris Navigation.......2004-07-06
Overall, this is an excellent map for getting around the city. It's a quick guide to all major points of interest. It is especially usefull in navigating the Metro, RER and bus system. We had absolutely no problems in finding every place we wanted to go and am very thankful we had this little gem!
Mapping out a reaction ... What a letdown........2003-08-20
The fact that over the years I have used Lonely Planet publications with entire satisfaction and sometimes delight, merely increases my disappointment with this piece of cartographic mediocrity. From every conceivable point of view, it is awful. Any Paris department store gives out better tourist maps ... free.
Pretty good overview map, but..........2003-05-30
I agree with the other posters - you do need a secondary map or guideline if you want something in more detail. It helped me get around Paris just fine, but I think another map might show more detail. The RER/Metro map is very handy, but it's a tradeoff for more detail on the map. If it's your first trip to Paris, take this map and pick up the Lonely Planet Paris book. This should meet the needs of about 98% of tourists.
