This isn't your father's road atlas! This one has RADICAL streets, AWESOME rivers, and COOOOL lakes represented in TOTALLY TUBULAR drop-down 2-D! I should warn you that you may LITERALLY BURST INTO FLAMES when you note the 6 - 6!!!! - main thoroughfares out of Gettysburg, PA. That is but one moment of potential spontaneous human combustion in the Northeast. Do not look at panel A-4 on the Vermont map, WHATEVER YOU DO!!!!

Too Small!.......2007-04-14

I think they should substitute "Small" for "Midsize" in the description of this item. I just returned it because it was too small. Entire states are on one letter-size page and only major roads are shown. I bought it because the Large Scale Atlas is not available in spiral bound except for the one with the Travel Guide which makes it too big and heavy. I have now ordered the Travel Guide version and intend to tear out the Travel Guide section.

Great Atlas in a Manageable Package.......2007-04-11

Bought this Atlas for my fathers birthday. He had a pitiful atlas in his car that he'd received free, but he liked the size. I found this one in the size he liked. It's more manageable with the ring binder and in addition to great city maps it has all kinds of additional information including things to see and do. He LOVES it and claimed it as his favorite gift this year.

I hae used the previous edition to make my cross country roadtrip a success, and now I am using to plan my next trip across america, very user friendly, however it would be better to be spiral bound to keep it open to the page.

Great Atlas.......2007-06-11

I wanted map detail and a spiral bound book. I will eliminate the Travel Guide section as it adds too much weight and isn't needed. Very pleased with the purchase.

Good map for visiting.......2007-05-25

Is good map. I visit States from Norway now and driving on road trip. Shows good things to do off track; not crowded. I go to some, they very good places to see. Is nice they have this feature showing attractions, not just a map.

Handy Travel Map.......2007-02-17

The Rand McNally Road Atlas & Travel Guide provides colorful, well designed maps for all 50 states plus Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The maps are well designed, printed on semi-gloss paper and spiral bound to make them lie flat. Highways and distance between points are clearly marked, making navigation easy and convenient for those who are GPS deprived. The inset maps for major cities are adequate for those driving through, however separate maps are advisable for finding local addresses. An index of counties, cities and towns is provided which provides map grid coordinates and population data.

A separate travel guide highlights major tourist attractions, however it is far from exhaustive. Separate travel guides and/or Internet research is recommended for serious sightseeing. Also included are travel advice by country, hotel resources and emergency numbers.

In short, the Rand McNally Road Atlas & Travel Guide provides a lot of travel information in a fairly compact and easy-to-use format, and at a reasonable price.

Highly recommended.

While I was loyal to Rand McNally maps and atlases for many years, I now prefer the American Map road atlas because it is more legible, has subtle topographical shading (the Rand McNally atlas has none), and is more compact.

I am very pleased with my purchase of the American Map Road Atlas. It has everything I was looking for & then some! I especially like the page that has the driving time & driving distance together so you can know exactly how long your drive is going to be without having to calculate it yourself. And it got to me super fast! I highly recommend it!

My Favorite Atlas.......2007-02-02

I've had this atlas and travel planner since it came out and I love it. We've toured across the United States several times and this book is always my companion. It has so much more to offer than just maps. The suggested scenic road trips and the national park information is helpful. The pictures are exceptionally good and the color finish on the maps is so much easier to look at and read in the front seat of the car with the sun glaring in. I, too, wish they'd publish an updated version. I highly recommend this for road travelers.

The Perfect Road Atlas for Serious Travelers!.......2006-07-19

This is certainly the best road atlas I've ever come across. I've owned my own copy for about 7 years and absolutely love it. The binding is very durable, and I take it everywhere with me. In addition to accurate and clear road maps, it also contains a ton of additional useful information for people interested in pure vacationing. I've crossed at least 30 states with this atlas. I just hope NG continues to offer revised versions of this atlas in the future. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I've owned this atlas for five years. It is BY FAR the best I've ever had. I travel a lot of miles every year in some of the remotest drivable areas in the U.S. This collection has never let me down. When WILL they put out a new edition?!

We use this great road atlas all the time! We keep it in the car and refer to it as we travel quite often across the USA. One of the best we've seen...wish they would publish an updated version!

Buy it used -- it's a great atlas.......2002-02-23

I like roadtrips, and since 1999 The American Road has been an indispensable inhabitant of my car. I can't understand why NG quit producing this atlas...That's a bargain for sure.

It's a very study volume. Mine has started to pull away from the binding a bit, but that's to be expected when I throw it around the car all the time. The plastic-like cover is spill-resistant and extremely durable. No pages have ripped or become unbound. I am very rough on it, and I'm impressed that it's survived as well as it has.

The maps are readable and accurate. There's not much more exciting than that to say about a road map. They cover all of North America, though Mexico receives no detailed coverage, nor does northern Canada (where there are few roads anyway).

Large Print makes it easier to use.......2004-12-03

I usually think of Large Print books as being for older folks or people with serious vision problems, but this atlas's larger print makes map reading much easier than any other atlas for just about anybody, especially if you're in a car. Also, the American Co. maps are simply more accurate than Rand McNally in my opinion.

Only good if you live on the East coast.......2004-07-13

Very nice maps and graphics, maps are reasonably detailed, however, this atlas has a serious defect in the way it depicts the Western states: Low population states like Utah, Wyoming and Nevada are given a single page instead of the double-page that their sizes warrant. Even Connecticut, which is tiny, gets a two-page spread, while Nevada, which has counties bigger than Connecticut, gets shoved into a single page. If you drive out West, you will want another atlas, perhaps a AAA, Gousha or Rand McNally. Overall good, but shortchanges Western states.

The Best!!!.......2004-07-06

This is THE ONLY road atlas to use if you want up to date construction and improvements on highways. It's sometimes hard to find - but it is worth the effort.

Best US road atlas by far!.......2004-02-01

If you buy only one atlas for driving in the US, buy this one and you won't get lost! My family travels by car quite a bit,all over the US, and I am always the navigator. I have used many atlases until I found the American Map Company atlas, and now I won't use any other. I buy the new edition every year.

Some atlases are very confusing, in city interchanges especially, and this one is very easy to follow. It also shows points of interest in red along the way-- interesting tourist spots, museums,etc., that you may not have known were nearby if you are travelling through several states on vacation like we do. It also has maps of the national parks, which are good for pre-planning a visit. It also shows the location of rest areas on the interstates, which is very important if you have kids with you!!! I also like that it is spiral-bound, so you can just fold it neatly back to only show the map you want.

I have compared this atlas side by side with Rand McNally and others, and it is by far the easiest to read. So get this one before you head out on that cross-country road trip! You won't be sorry.

This book is quite frankly an excellent reference for your travel. Of all the road atlas books on the market, I found this to be the best.

Low clearences.......2002-03-31

I just purchased this book and found it to be very good until I wanted to check for a low clearence. Each state has all of their counties listed with the clearences in feet and inches. The bad news no where on any of the maps does it name any counties. So the book is useless to me for that reason.

User friendly road atlas. You get a lot of information for the price and its just the right size. I love the sprial binding, that makes it easy to change pages.
