Book Description
STREETWISE(r) TORONTO
Revised yearly, STREETWISE(r) is the best-selling map of TORONTO, with coverage from Mount Pleasant Cemetery to Centre Island. Localities covered are Black Creek Pioneer Village, Zoo Metropolitan Toronto, and the Sky Dome. Points of interest such as museums, hotels, parks, and popular sites are highlighted and fully indexed. The Subway and Rapid Transit routes are clearly indicated on a map inset. Laminated for durability, accordion folded to fit in your pocket or purse, STREETWISE(r) gives you TORONTO in a clear, concise, and convenient format.
Customer Reviews:
Convenient, but needs to be updated.......2006-01-23
I purchased this in 2003 for a trip later that year. I had no problems getting around, but after multiple trips to the city I would recommend buying a map once you're in the city. I spotted a minor error with the subway listings, and they list a non-existent green space in the Annex neighborhood...I asked a passerby and they had no idea where it could be! The TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) has free, to-date-maps that are available in all the stations with agents. So do some booths at Pearson Airport. Still, the foldable, waterproof format is super-convenient. Just remember to pick up a more current map and carry the Streetwise one when you're walking around for general reference.
Great, great, great.......2006-01-17
So easy to use! Although orienting yourself with North was a little challenging at 1st. The fact that the map is laminated is a definite plus! This is something I can use over and over again, I even gave one as a gift to a friend who lives in Toronto and they love it as well!
Wish I'd had this the last time I visited Hogtown..........2001-10-14
... you can bet I'll have it with me when I go back. The usual Streetwise quality is evident in this map; the only quibble I have with it is the rather odd orientation. Thanks to the fact that all Streetwise have to fit into their standard rectangle shape, and the somewhat unusual shape of Toronto means that in order to fit it in, it has to be oriented with north nowhere near "up". Once you get used to that, though, you have a dandy, sturdy map of Toronto, including the TTC subway lines.

Customer Reviews:
Discover safe.......2003-07-14
Well done guide. It is organized, thoughtful and balances the standard information of travel guides with the more local places you would otherwise found only by a chance. Time is precious, so it is useful to know you can leave the center without being lost and dependent on locals.
Superb.......2003-07-13
The guide is precise, visually perfect, with a balanced set of sites and useful information. I visited Toronto couple of weeks ago and although I have been there before, this time I enjoyed the trip a lot more.

Book Description
Canada's cultural and business capital emerges from the shadow of the CN Tower in this handy Mini Rough Guide. The Rough Guide covers the metropolis, with critical reviews of the best accommodation, cafes, bars, and restaurants in every price range---all cross-referenced to handy full-color maps. Explore the city's diverse culinary scene, take to the ice at a 'Leafs game, or elope to Niagara Falls on a daytrip. Features 12 pages of color maps.
Customer Reviews:
Informative.......2006-01-17
I love using Rough Guides and this was no exception. However I would've liked more info on cheaper restaurants, but I guess in a city like Toronto you can just walk a few steps and find a gem among the rocks.
The information on places of interest was also quite good.
Convenient Guide to Toronto.......2000-06-20
This book is ideal for a short trip to Toronto or for those who don't care to carry large, bulky books with them on vacation. Most of the information is short, to the point, with a minimum of color commentary. There is a section devoted to the history of the city and references to other books for those who want more information. The book is small enough to fit in a backpack or even a coat pocket so it can be carried with you. Probably not ideal for an extended stay, but overall helpful.

Customer Reviews:
Ontario's Backroads.......2004-01-23
This book was first published by Hurtig in 1984, and is the copy that I am reviewing. I'm sure much has had to be changed by Brown in order to make the book accessable, as much development has, unfortunately, occurred in Ontario over the past twenty years.
The book consists of 24 excursions through Ontario's beautiful countryside. Ontario has numerous natural wonders, quaint small towns, and historical landmarks--all of which are within a few hours drive.
For those unable to undertake the excursions, or who have no inclination to go polluting through them, will still enjoy this book immensely, as I have. Ron Brown is an excellent writer, and describes each excursion with clarity and the right balance of information and anecdote.

Customer Reviews:
Trustworthy and well-creased.......2006-06-19
I am sad to see there are some quite unfriendly reviews of this book. I used it every day when I first came to this city and still consult it with pleasure and in confidence. I have found it always useful and while I have learned much more about what is in Toronto I have not needed to buy a different one.
Not Impressed.......2004-08-25
I've purchased dozens of travel guides for many different cities/countries over the years and this is the worst one I've ever seen. I bought it based on the reviews, but am very disappointed. I'm going to ditch it and try a more familiar publisher.
Second only to your passport for the Toronto visitor !.......2003-12-14
This book on Toronto, the city of my birth, is one of the most practical and interesting books on the city. Each chapter is cleary set out and includes not just real practical help, but interesting trivia too. There are many street maps which accompany text : they are very precise, yet not over detailed, so the reader never gets bogged down in unnecessary mire.
The chapter on City life and entertainment is my favourite: starting with an annual calendar of events to suit really every taste, it then proceeds to break down all types of entertainment into different categories, again with well laid out plans on how to get there.
Metro Toronto is now a huge, sprawling multi-cultural city, yet the author has managed superbly to break down the city into manageable , readable sections entitled: Neighbourhood Profiles. which for every 34 neighbourhood section on each double page, has the map of the neighbourhood on the left side and on the right, complementary and again, interesting, practical information for the visitor.
John Must has done a really thorough job on this and coupled with the really affordable priced, pardon the pun , but this book is a must.
Fantastic book!.......2002-10-22
I just got back from a 4 day trip to Toronto with this book as my guide, and I must say it's one great book.
The format of this book is different from other guidebooks like Lonely Planet and Fodor's, but it's also the best part about it. The author breaks the city into 35 or so sections, and devotes two pages to each section. On the left hand page is a map of that particular section. These are great maps; they contain street numbers, locations of major sites, locations of restaurants, and locations of little things like convenience stores. On the facing page is a (unually historical) description about that section of town. Need to find out where you are? No need to break out a large, clumsy, fold out map of the city. Just figure out what part of town you're in, turn to that page in the book, and there you go.
The rest of of book contains usual guidebook info like listings of major restaurants, sites, how to get to/from the airport, more maps (the one of the subway is very useful) and stuff like that. NOTE: one thing the book lacks is hotel information. Nothing about budget accomodations, B&B's, fancy hotels. . .nothing. So don't rely on this book to get you a place to stay for the night, but you can rely on it for everything else.
HELPFUL!.......2002-09-13
I was so glad to have this book on my trip!
