Meet Adam - a young boy with AS. Adam invites young readers to learn about AS from his perspective. In this book, Adam helps children understand the difficulties faced by a child with AS; he tells them what AS is, what it feels like to have AS and how they can help children with AS by understanding their differences and appreciating their many talents. This book is ideally suited for boys and girls between 7 and 15 years old and also serves as an excellent starting point for family and classroom discussions.

Highly recommend!.......2007-06-05
This book was found during my search for information that would assist our 13 year old AS (Asperger Syndrome) son to socialize with his peers. It proved to exceed my expectations and if I could give this book a 10 stars rating I would.
When my son read this book it was like a "light bulb" went off for him. It helped give him a clarity that I found difficult to explain. My only regret is that I did not have this book several years ago. It would have been extremely helpful to share with teachers and compassionate classmates during 4th or 5th grade when socializing was becoming an interest but he just wasn't succesful and other kids did not understand (or tolerate) his differences. But... better late than never.
One of the main things that I didn't count on was that this book also gave our son insight on how his classmates might react to him and how his misunderstanding of social cues and inuendos might make his classmates think he is unfriendly. It opened his eyes to the fact that he also has to be considerate of others and that friendship goes both ways.
Best of all, our son went through every page of the book and highlighted the areas that he felt described him. I now have a tool to share with others when attempting to describe how our son handles certain situations. It also gives me insight on specific areas that he still needs assistance with.
Thanks for such a great book. A must read for parents with AS or HFA (High Functioning Autism) kids as young as 6/7 years old.

great for friends or sibling of an asperger child.......2007-05-30
My 6 year old nephew was recently diagnosed with Asperger's. He has a 10 year old sister. This looked like a great book for her to read in order to be able to understand her brother a bit more. It's really focused towards kids. I also ordered a different book for my sister to read since she was looking for information on it as well.
Fabulous book for those new to Asperger's Syndrome.......2007-05-17
I purchased this book along with "Asperger's Huh?" shortly after my son was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. While "Asperger's Huh?" was a huge disappointment (especially considering the cost) "Can I Tell You About Asperger's?" is a FABULOUS book!
I was worried that my son would find this book beneath him because of the very simple language (he hated the "Asperger's Huh?" book for this reason) but he loved it. He said it did an excellent job of explaining his "problem" to him and it doesn't upset him so much anymore.
We have shared this book with everyone in our family. Its a quick read, 15-20 minutes tops for slow readers, and everyone just raves about how wonderful the book is. The "Tips for Teachers" section is also very helpful and I plan to purchase more of these books to give to my son's teachers each school year.
Just Like My Son.......2007-05-09
Upon receipt of this book, my Asperger's 10 year old son and I immediately read it together. We were amazed at the similarities between he and the character Adam - the sensory integration issues, the social stigmas, and the exceptional abilities. Adam explains all of the things my son wishes he could.
We shared this book with my son's teacher & principal, who both thought it was appropriate to share with the class. I recommend this book for sharing with classmates as well as relatives and friends.
Can I Tell You About Asperger Syndrome?.......2007-03-26
A very easy book to help understand the syndrome and excellent suggestions. It allows you to realize how it must be walking in their shoes and how to make them more successful. It helps knowing that it isn't the parents neglect in raising the child also.

Book Description
Completely revised and updated, this new edition of the popular and highly regarded textbook, Applied Geophysics, describes the physical methods involved in exploration for hydrocarbons and minerals. These tools include gravity, magnetic, seismic, electrical, electromagnetic, and radioactivity studies. All aspects of these methods are described, including theoretical considerations, data acquisition, and data processing and interpretation, with the objective of locating concentrations of natural resources and defining their extent. In the past fourteen years or so since the writing of Applied Geophysics, there have been many changes in the field of exploration geophysics. The authors give full treatment to changes in this field, which include improved techniques for calculating gravity fields, the use of proton-precession and optically-pumped magnetometers, improved quality of seismic data, magnetotelluric as a practical exploration method, new electromagnetic exploration methods, the use of gamma-ray spectrometers in radioactive exploration, and improved well-logging techniques. The intent is to be practical, and thus many actual examples and problems are given. Moreover, wherever possible in this edition the authors adopt the use of Système Internationale (SI) units, which were not in standared use at the time of the first edition. The reader needs only a general background knowledge of geology, physics, and mathematics. Most of the math can be skipped by those interested only in the results. Advanced mathematical concepts are explained in the appendix.

ONE IN A MILLION.......2000-01-28
I first came across Telford during my Postgraduate days in Nigeria. It's has been my second bible ever since. It's a classical book in Applied Geophysics. It has no rival. I would encourage geophysicists world-wide to have a second look at the book, especially, professionals, postgraduate and undergraduate students. It's complete with modern references in Applied Geophysics.

Book Description
The product of a number of years of reflection on the Gospel of Mark, this book explains in a clear and understandable way the contribution that the evangelist has made to the theology of the developing Jesus tradition. Joining forces with those who see Mark as a theologian of some considerable creativity, Dr. Telford emphasizes the importance of context (the historical and the contemporary) and method (the historical-critical approach with insights drawn from the newer literary approaches) for the proper understanding of Mark.
Customer Reviews:
The Theology of W. R. Telford.......2003-03-21
Telford's treatment of the theology of Mark's gospel follows an expected pattern - introduction, theology, place in canon, relevance for today - but seems to entirely miss the point of the series of books of which this one is a part.
Telford's style and format are excellent. He constantly moves in linear progression from one thought to the next, building his arugments and then summarizing where he has just taken the reader before tranisitioning to the next topic. By far he has done a much better job of maintaining focus and coherency than many other writings in this series. And for this reason he gets two stars and not one.
Professor Telford seems to exemplify what Kierkergaard wrote concerning the biblical scholars of his day - that most scholarship is an attempt not to know and understand the NT more intimately but instead to put more and more padding between it and oneself. Telford seems to make all the right arugments concerning Mark's composition, theology and place in the canon and yet seems so far from the message that Mark has to give. It is as if Telford were constructing an enormous jigsaw puzzle but, when completed, didn't care for the picture it created.
Telford's overriding thurst is that Mark's gospel was written to combat what the author saw as errant christologies by replacing it with a Son of God Christology. The use of the secret motif, the debate with the Jewish opponents, and the disciples inability are all supposed to point to this supreme center.
However, I find Telford's construction tedious at best. Assuming that literary criticism and redactional methods (among other tools) enable historical truth, he makes assumptions that I find hard to maintain. The confidence he places in viewing so much of Mark through his christological lens, for example, is found wanting when he makes virtually no effort to explain his preponderance for assuming not only the existence of Q - the hypothetical source that he admits is hypothetical - but also its exact content to the extent that it can be compared with Mark's final product. Furthermore, his insistence on "the historical Jesus" over and against the evangelist's presentation comes across as veiled smugness that anyone would believe such mythic nonsense.
In reality, it is not hard to see why Telford has so little interest is Jesus - historical or otherwise. His specialty is in Christian Origins and he treats the whole of this book as though he were writing the history of the early church. It is utterly apparent that Telford has a strong inclination toward seeing not only a competing Jewish/Gentile Christianity (no doubt reminsicent of Bauer's theory) but to a clash of nearly every early Christian movement with another. His treatment on Mark in the canon is no less than a thorough look at every book in the NT (with little real interest in comparing it with Mark) and how they all compete with one another. Telford is doing Christian Origins in this book!
Finally, his treatment on Mark's relevance for today is laughable. On staff with a church I find his input completely useless. In fact, he hardly refers to the church at all, maintaining that since Mark was written in such an alien environment it has little bearing on today's world. Moving on to the secular world he does little more than ask questions and provide no answer. Does Mark promote or denigrate women? Well, we don't know. Does Mark promote anti-Semitism? Well, who's to say? Does Mark promote non-violent resistance? Too hard to tell. It is clear that Telford has no interest in Mark's message at all apart from what it can tell him about the schematization of early Christianity.
In the end it is clear that the academy's insights to church documents provide little in the way of help to the church itself when the academy is indifferent (or hostile) to the message of the church. As should be clear, I would not suggest this book and will only keep it to have a complete collection of the New Testament Theology series which as otherwise proved very good overall so far.

Book Description
With The Integrity Advantage, Adrian Gostick and Dana Telford establish a burning platform-that personal integrity is a proven competitive advantage in business. Prominent business leaders from some of North America's most respected companies-including Don Graham of the Washington Post, former Johnson & Johnson CEO James Burke, and Hank Paulson, Jr. of Goldman Sachs-discuss the role integrity has played in their successes, and offer examples of the importance of integrity in business today. Not merely a collection of essays, the authors also share an effective system of decision-making designed to help anyone implement integrity into every action. The importance of trust and credibility within business relationships is examined and discussed, as Telford and Gostick illustrate how to juggle wealth, power, and responsibility-and be a person of character. Given the recent uncertainty fostered by questionable corporate tactics, however, now is the time to examine what role integrity actually plays in business today, and whether employees are naturally compelled to practice these values-particularly when the leaders they follow lack integrity in their own professional behavior. Dana Telford holds an MBA from Harvard University and has advised business leaders in the consumer banking, healthcare, publishing, retail, manufacturing, and real estate industries. He has developed and implemented strategies for client companies based all over the world. He lives in Morgan, Utah. Adrian Gostick is director of marketing and corporate communications with the O.C. Tanner Recognition Company. His previous books include Managing with Carrots and The 24-Carrot Manager, co-authored with Chester Elton. He lives in Salt Lake City.
Customer Reviews:
Social Resp & Profit Motive, mutually exclusive?.......2004-04-28
Over the last few years, corporate performance has taken a back seat to corporate governance. With every scandal that rocks Wall Street; Enron, Adelphia, Anderson, and WorldCom to name a few, issues like ethics, morals and social responsibility are plastered on the top of the fold of rags ranging from the NY Times to the Morgan City Daily Review. Through interviews with some of the world's most respected CEO's, Adrian Gostick and Dana Telford's book "The Integrity Advantage" sheds an interesting perspective of corporate integrity and how this integrity, in fact, is truly a competitive advantage. The authors describe ten characteristics that are consistently displayed by people with integrity. Although none of these are compelling and shed new light on integrity, the authors emphasize the importance through the experience of the CEO's and demonstrate how incremental improvements in each one develops the reader's decision making enhancing their own reputation of integrity. It would seem, on the surface that integrity is an easy concept to understand and apply. However, the NIKE example speaks to how this is not the case. Although conceptually we can grasp integrity and how this may, in fact, be a competitive advantage, what the book does not address is how it fits within the construct of social responsibility. In other words, is integrity as described in the book, aligned with Milton Friedman and Elaine Sternberg's view of corporate responsibility? Or does it follow the framework put forth by Elizabeth Anderson and R. Edward Freeman? I am inclined to believe the spirit of the book falls somewhere in the middle. The book quotes some of the most successful smartest CEO's in the world. And although social responsibility and certainly integrity are of primary concern, each one of these individuals has a profit motive for being in business. Otherwise, they would be heading up a nonprofit organization. It seems to me these two, integrity and having a profit motive should not be mutually exclusive. Although as Friedman states, social responsibility as a motivating factor in decision making is in fact taxing the shareholders of whom you have a fiduciary responsibility to act in their best interest. As Sternberg states, you have to be able to differentiate between business and other institutions. There should be a distinct line, roadmap if you will, to address both, but make no doubt that the business is the first and foremost responsibility of the executive. That said, there is something to be said of Anderson's and to some degree Freeman's views of social responsibility. The corporation should consider and behave in a way that considers both benefits and consequences to its stakeholders. This does not mean that it should act to promote the greatest benefit to its stakeholders, in doing so it ignores the aforementioned fiduciary responsibility. In my humble opinion Freeman is wrong, they do not have nor should have legal "requirements" to do so. What should drive their stakeholder responsibility is their personal integrity, which gets us back to the book. One could argue that had Phil Knight, or any other of these executives that have recently fallen from grace, pursued the steps in the book they could have avoided the problems they faced. In the end, integrity is indeed a critical success factor that could be used to leverage the corporation and become a competitive advantage. And integrity along with the profit motive should not be viewed as mutually exclusive. However, one should never forget the responsibility to the shareholder and that this responsibility should serve as guidance with integrity as the cornerstone in every leaders and employees decision making process.
Practical Lessons for Living Your Values.......2003-06-16
If this book had been titled, Leading with Integrity, I would have rated it as four stars. With that title, it's main weakness is in not providing enough advice on "how to" lead with integrity.
While The Integrity Advantage describes some benefits to being a person and an organization of integrity in business or in nonprofits, the evidence in the book is far from overwhelming that integrity is the best way to go. That's unfortunate, because acting with integrity provides many advantages not explicitly described in this book (such as creating positive word of mouth rather than negative word of mouth, attracting customer loyalty that enables you to survive when you make mistakes, involving more stakeholders to help you, and encouraging people to listen to one another and communicate better). Instead, you see some advantages of operating with integrity while being reminded that you'll sleep better at night, even if you make less money. I think a more compelling case can be made than this book does. My guess is that the reason behind this limitation in the book is that only a few executives seem to have been used as sources. I doubt if more than a dozen people are involved with an example, as opposed to a quote.
The best part of the book comes in a list of "What Integrity Looks Like -- Up Close":
"Little Things Count," "Find the White [When Others See Grey]," "You Mess Up, You 'Fess Up," "Create a Culture of Trust," "You Keep Your Word," "You Care about the Greater Good," "You're Honest but Modest," "You Act Like You're Being Watched," "You Hire Integrity," "You Stay the Course." Each part of the list is developed with at least one example from a prominent business leader and some quotes from others. There's also a brief summary at the end of each one.
Another valuable part of the book is in part three where you get tips on how to act on your desire to operate with integrity:
1. Take time to reflect before acting
2. Get ideas from others until you have a good one of what's needed
3. Consider the effects on those who will be affected
4. Start making changes in yourself
Warren Buffett's advice is the best part of this book. He points out that he hires for those with integrity, high intelligence and great energy. But the latter two characteristics don't help if you don't have the first one. I also liked Mitt Romney's example in the foreword of how people with similar values can end up failing if they don't make living their values with integrity a priority. The means count as much as the ends.
After you finish this book, look at the decisions and actions you will probably be called upon to make today. How can you make them with more integrity?
A valuable book of values!.......2003-05-07
If you want to know how some of the most successful businessmen and women integrate integrity into how they hire employees, run their businesses, and guide their lives -- get this book. If you want to know why integrity is a real business asset -- get this book.
With interviews from some of the biggest names in the business world, Telford and Gostick have crafted a simple, effective roadmap to understanding integrity, understanding yourself, and understanding the tremendous power of integrity. Without being self-righteous or preachy, "The Integrity Advantage," provides sound, practical business advice that is needed more today than ever. Whether you're a CEO, a manager, or a manager-to-be, get this book.

Educational for all ages.......2000-03-29
A wonderful educational book for all ages. Although the summary indicates this book is for children 9-12, I used this book for a presentation on the rain forest to children from 5-6 years old. The teacher of the class enjoyed the book so much, she is requesting a copy for her classroom. If anyone is considering a trip to a tropical environment with children, this would be a fabulous book to take along.

Customer Reviews:
Coyote's Canyon.......2006-03-21
Gorgeous photographs taken in National Parks and other wild lands in the southwestern U.S. combine with New Age vignettes.
I loved the photos, but found the narrative didn't appeal to me. One vignette stood out as disturbing: the narrator makes the mistake of telling a local that a mountain lion just ran across the road in front of the truck, and the local's response is to say he and his buddies will be out there the next day with dogs and guns. I found it sad to think that in the modern day people still have no better solution for living with predators than to exterminate them. Other than that -- I found the narrative generally sentimental and information-free, but it's just not my kind of thing and I'm sure it will appeal to others.
Wonderful.......2001-12-13
Straight to my heart. If you love the red rocks and enjoy Terry's writing, this is it. The photography is excellent!
Beautiful and Haunting!.......2001-02-24
Coyote's Canyon is a collection of photography of the Southwestern US, coupled with Terry Tempest Williams's haunting prose. The photographs are, by and large, rich and full of the sense of the desert. The collection of short essays by Williams includes two of my absolute favorite stories about the Southwest--the one about the Man who Buries Poems, and the one about finding the Perfect Kiva. Worth the read, for anyone who yearns for the desert, or who lives there and wants to rediscover an appreciation for its magic, both in photographs and in lyrical prose.
Photos and Tales of Desert Canyons.......1999-05-29
The book captures a remarkable series of photos of desert canyons. The photos are good enough to keep the book on my office conference table. Ms. Williams' text provides stories of people encountering wilderness at the near edge of mystic experience.

Your Character becomes Your Destiny.......2007-02-02
"There's no way around it. We've got a growing trust problem on our own soil. And it's destined to make us less competitive in global markets; spend too much money on contracts, disputes and litigation; and burden us with inefficiencies. That is, unless we can turn it around. To do so, we need leaders to take the first step." ~ pg. 55
Integrity Works presents the stories of Hank Greenberg, Mary Kay Ash, Mohandas Gandhi, John Wooden, Vonetta Flowers, Mother Teresa, Warren Buffett and Sir Thomas More. The detailed profiles paint pictures of success and uncover the secrets of a life of influence.
The main points are illustrated almost entirely by these life stories and the astonishing beauty of Mother Teresa's compassion comes through in her story like I haven't heard it told before. The idea of this book is to show how decisions developed the character of the individuals presented and how their character became their destiny.

A great ROI.......2005-04-27
Integrity works. It also inspires. Kudos to Gostick and Telford for producing a book that is as much about life and how to live it, as it is about business and how to profit from it. Integrity Works is an uplifting, powerful handbook that has changed the way I look at ROI - my own Return On Integrity.
At a time when the term "business leadership integrity" seems like an oxymoron, Integrity Works demonstrates how integrity is central to true success. This isn't a heavy book about philosophy or business principles. Rather, Gostick and Telford have distilled 10 keys to the fulfillment of integrity - illustrating the practical application of those keys through the lives of such remarkable and diverse people as Mother Teresa, Warren Buffet, and Hank Greenberg.
Integrity Works is a practical, read-able book that will make you stronger - and your business leadership qualities better. It'll also improve your ROI.

Book Description
Jude Welton looks at a hundred of the most common figures of speech in this visual workbook designed as a springboard for family and classroom discussions. Each figure of speech is accompanied by an illustration showing its literal meaning, which will help AS children recognize and learn to enjoy metaphors and figurative language. The book can be used by parents one-to-one with their ASD child. Teachers can also use the book as the basis for classroom work on figurative language.

Fun!.......2007-02-23
This book was perfect for my 9 yo daughter. She has NLD and is often confused by language, facial expression, or hidden meanings. We had a lot of fun guessing the answers (she got them wrong every time!) and then reading the correct meaning. Within an hour she had picked a lyric out of a song and understood it for the first time ("coming out of my shell"). We are thrilled with this book!
Great idea -- but there are problems.......2005-10-15
This book helps a child with Aspergers unravel the mysteries of colloquial meatphors -- that is the great idea. However, it was written in the United Kingdom, which means that sometimes the explanations are confusing also (what is a queue, Mom???)-- that takes away from its effectiveness and makes for frustration. There are also a couple of publishing goofs -- wrong explanation on the page -- no excuse for that. I actually whited them out and moved the words over. Like I said -- great idea -- upbeat and useful -- but it should be noted that it is not US English.
This is the Book to Put NT Translators Out of Business.......2004-12-23
For people with autism/Asperger's, this book is the book to have in understanding colloquialisms, idioms and metaphors. Instead of relying on neurotypical (NT) counterparts to interpret and translate these phrases, just keep this book handy. It's the ideal tool to have when learning the language of the NT world.
