This book left me disappointed and wanting a refund. The actual information included on mycosis fungoides and Sezary syndrome is the same basic technical information that the American Cancer Society will mail you for free. For a book that claims to be the Official Patient's Sourcebook, the authors neglect to answer such common questions like whether MF or SS is hereditary, contagious, congenital or what may have caused the disease. For a book that claims to be A Revised and Updated Directory for the Internet Age, they neglect to give links to such basic sources of information as the Mycosis Fungoides Foundation at ...
or the ACOR online listserv for MF/SS patients and caregivers at

The book provides numerous links on the general topic of cancer but few of these links provide any insight into MF/SS. You won't find any discussion of what to expect after being diagnosed with MF or SS and only a brief explanation of the various treatments available. There is a generic medical glossary included in case you need a defintion for aspirin or insulin or aren't familiar with the term neonatal. There are links for technical mycosis fungoides studies provided, but often the articles are dated and not really pertinent for today's MF/SS patient. Much of the other cancer information is not specific to mycosis fungoides or Sezary syndrome, so after reading this book you still won't know whether you need to see an oncologist or dermatologist. The book advises you to just look for a Dr by specialty in the Yellow Pages. This is typical of the less than helpful or insightful info which makes up the majority of the text of this book.

Disappointing.......2003-08-31

If mycosis fungoides and Sezary syndrome patients are expecting to get information about their disease, this book is not going to be of much help. There is an extensive glossary, but knowing the definition of a fetus, mammogram and pap test will not help to understand anything about the disease. Many of the websites they suggest to search for information do not have anything specific to mycosis fungoides/Sezary syndrome. Many sites are general cancer information which aren't of much help when you are dealing with a rare cancer. Some of the research articles mentioned are 20 years old. The most current information and support can be obtained from the Mycosis Fungoides Foundation which isn't even mentioned.
