Customer Reviews:
It's okay..........2007-01-11
I bought two wedding planners and this is the one that I've been using the least. It does have really good sized pockets in the divider of each section. It has gorgeous pictures in it and as the wedding date draws closer (we still have nine months), it's quite possible I'll use this one more.
This book does have a business card holder and so far that's the part I've used the most.
Fast.......2007-01-09
I received this product very fast and my sister absolutely loves it. It was a great gift for her.
Just Awesome.......2006-10-03
This planner is WONDERFUL. I got married just a few months ago, so I know how hectic it can be. I ordered this as a gift for a co-worker and she loves it. This is great because it has big pockets to store papers and things, tons of pictures of flowers, cakes, reception ideas, etc. The flower directory is teriffic. This planner covers everything right down to the last detail. After planning my own wedding, I wish I had had this planner! The best you can get.
Very helpful information but..........2006-07-24
I was very pleased with all the helpful information this wedding planner has but was very disappointed when it fell apart two days after giving it to my son's fiance as a gift. I was very embarassed to say the least. We are not returning it because she has started writing a lot of information in it so she has put it in a three-ring binder. I just want to warn other buyers about this product. I'm sure there are other books that contain just as much information as this one but won't fall apart.
Seems like it will be helpful........2006-03-07
I bought this as an engagement present for my best friends and gave it to them the day after they got engaged. It has a great deal of content and even if they don't end up using the worksheets, it's still fun for them to look at. The book itself was a little beat up (some of the divider tabs were creased, some dents on the cover) so it might be better to buy it at a store where you can see the actual book and content first.

Fantastic outdoor wedding planning details.......2007-03-13
We learned so much from this book! From the insider questions to the solutions to common weather challenges, decor ideas and great secrets about which types of menu items to use and not use...this book saved us a LOT of trouble with our planning, and we now have details that we're confident about. Instead of worrying, we're looking forward to the wedding because we were so well-guided by this book! We especially loved the ideas for planning an outdoor wedding aisle, and those will definitely be a part of the wedding.
"A Reader" = Author.......2006-09-28
This book is way short on substance (based on what it's supposed to help you with) and way long on anonymous hype. Don't buy it.
Detail-less.......2006-03-29
I was hoping the focus would be on planning an outdoor wedding. I am a very detail oriented person and thought this would give me all the details I've established and then the ones I wouldn't even think of, being I've not planned an elegant outdoor event. Unfortunately my own details far surpassed what is written in this book. Most of the advice mentioned in this book is common sense. I would have appreciated a bit more info on seating, on sand, deck, grass, a mountaintop...decor, and what will work where, and what to use in place of candles (being outside can be windy), Outdoor foods, maybe some budget ideas thrown in...a disappointment, sorry
Beautiful Pictures and Tons of ideas.......2005-08-03
Whether you are contemplating a big bash of a celebration, an intimate dinner, or an elegant afternoon party, this book has plenty of inspiration and ideas. I bought it in anticipation of a wedding potentially planned for a barn. We moved the venue, but still borrowed many ideas from the book for refreshments, flowers, lighting and other party particulars.
Terrific book - made our lives easier.......2004-06-13
This is a great book...what we thought was going to be a nightmare to plan was actually a breeze -- the ideas and timing charts, rental items and FYIs in here kept us organized, and we enjoyed planning the wedding more than we expected. Great decor ideas, and beach wedding hints and tips. Strongly recommended if you'll be planning your wedding outside.

Some Good Insights, but..........2007-05-26
...like all books of its kind, most of the benefits it may bring you could be had with a little common sense and good communication ahead of each decision deadline.
My wife-to-be and I are almost finished with our wedding planning, and while we did have some rough moments (even though our wedding will be very small and simple compared to 90% of the people out there - less than 80 people, no country clubs or hotels to deal with, no ridiculous $25,000+ tab (save the money for your children's education folks!)), I came to realize that almost every bad day was a result of bad communication.
It boils down to this: men and women express themselves (even the same idea sometimes) in very different ways. Not to mention a bride's motivations during planning are often different than the groom's motivations. If you're just starting out, you could get this book and a dozen others, and get some truly good advice. Or you could save the money and do this:
Sit down with each other, alone, in a non-distracting place and find out what is most important to each of you about this wedding and the days leading up to it. If you are honest, you will learn something about yourself, and not just your spouse. If you say what you think the other person wants to hear or what's diplomatic, you're in for some unpleasant days as the planning gets under way.
Take all day if you need to. Turn your phones off, get away from your computer, and really think it through. What is important to you? What is not? What is valuable in a wedding, what is filler and eye candy? Who are your real friends, who are people that really don't belong at your wedding? All of these are important questions and just the tip of the iceberg. Make no mistake: if you're honest with each other, there may even be some tears or raised voices before your discussion is over, but it will be worth it.
Until you each know what is really important to your future spouse and why, your wedding planning will be a giant headache and will stress you out right up until the wedding bells ring. Think it through, talk it through, THEN plan, based on the compromises you made during your discussion. And if you don't think you should have to compromise, you shouldn't be getting married. ;-)
There are other better books out there; check his website.......2007-05-22
This is more a blog put into paperback form than a book. Still, it's not bad and worth reading, but there's better books out there. It's a fast read and there's a decent amount of humor, but the meat of the book, what you need to know and think about in order to get through the time before the wedding, is pretty standard.
Instead, check out The Engaged Groom by Doug Gordon and Emotionally engaged, by Allison Moir-Smith (technically a book for soon to be brides, but which works well for the groom as well).
If you only buy one book for the groom..........2007-03-26
... or if you're only buying one book for yourself and, let's face it, how many more wedding books can you actually READ, buy this one! I had the opportunity to read this as a review copy and have since purchased it for several of my friends. With humor and grace, Craig Michaels strikes just the right tone of comedy and compassion when facing one of life's biggest decisions. Honest, friendly and funny, it's the literary equivalent of having a once-in-a-lifetime heart-to-heart with your favorite uncle, old college roomate or dear old dad before the big day.
He speaks the truth!.......2007-02-09
This is what it boils down to; I'm getting married. My sister sends me this book as a present; you know something fun to read to keep me breathing during these final five months of bachelorhood. Turns out this book is like having all the answers to a test before you go and take it! How awesome is that! Craig brings all his emotions, truths and mistakes into two hundred and sixty three pages of brilliant advice! Take it from me. I've already scored major points by helping with save the date cards and getting our rings (another for her and mine). "Thirty To Wife" is a book that all men can relate to and is funny, smart and charismatic. Thank you Craig for finding a way to put down into words!
What were you thinking? .......2006-12-15
Yes, that is probably what is going through your head right now. You proposed and she said "Yes", but now you have to go through laborious process of marriage planning. Stressed? Confused? Bored? This book not only entertains but informs. Craig opens up and tells his story in painful depth and detail like few guys can - his sacrifice is our gain. As a guy who is currently engaged, the book has served not only as therapy but as a guide. While being humorous, "Thirty to Wife" also informs by adding interesting and relevant statistics, provides useful registry ideas and websites, and includes a schedule of tasks for the months leading up to the wedding. It is not only easy and fun to read, but a great reference. It has come in handy more than a few times during wedding discussions. Not only have my fiancé and I avoided arguments by using this book, I have ended up looking like a champ.
Read and enjoy!

Sprinkled with anecdotes about lessons learned by couples creating their weddings, this book is filled with the wisdom of experience.
Customer Reviews:
the only book to get if you are writing your vows!.......2007-06-08
A friend of ours gave me this book recently in response to my general panic regarding writing and planning our ceremony and vows. It's been the most helpful resource I've had during this process so far, clearly defining and separating each part of the ceremony itself (backtracking to include choosing a spot and participants) while giving clear guidelines, options and the ability to mix and match depending upon the sentiment and emotional goals. There's noting preachy, chiched or trite about Judith Johnson's writing or approach. I'm looking forward to passing it along to our other engaged friends once we are married!
An Excellent Resource.......2007-05-15
This book was an excellent resource to putting together a memorable wedding ceremony. It is up to date and easy to read.
Excellent.......2007-04-27
The only wedding book, of any type, that I have actually read. It's astonishing how similar most wedding-related books are, and how little is said. Usually I find myself flipping through them to see if anything sparks an idea. A thoughtful, rich book on the topic of wedding ceremonies.
A Lifesaver.......2007-04-09
I had no idea where to start with planning my ceremony. This book is amazingly insightful and touching with tons of concrete suggestions and examples. By the end I was too excited to be nervous anymore.
The best resource for planning your wedding.......2007-01-09
This is the best book to help make your day truly special. Wonderful ideas on traditions (and explanations regarding the traditions) from many different religions. I am a catholic (not practicing) and my fiance is spirtual. We didn't know where to begin and we realized we didn't want cookie cutter wedding. This book has been great in helping us incorporate elements that are important to us. Everything from writing your own vows to the timing and staging of the ceremony are covered in this book and have been invaluable in planning our wedding.

This is great! And...I got it really fast!
Not as helpful as the bridal bargain book.......2007-05-19
I had bought this planning book because I really like the the other book Bridal Bargains written by the same author Denise Fields. I'm in the process of planning of my wedding, and so far the only part that helped me was the first one or two chapters on setting a wedding budget. The rest I thought was too general. I was able to find most of the same or more information from surfing the web. Again, for a much better buy, get the Bridal Bargains book instead.
bridal bargain planner.......2007-05-14
I enjoyed looking through this wedding planner workbook, designed to go with the book of the similar name. It has additional hints and tips not in the book, and plenty of places to write down lists of things that are important to weddings. I bought it for my 25 year old daughter who loves to organize and plan things - especially for her own wedding - and a person like her will use it. If you are not a "write down" planner type of person, maybe just the book would be enough.
WONDERFUL!!!.......2007-02-07
this is an excellent planner. it has everything i would have expected from a wedding planning guide and then some. i would reccomend this for anyone because it really has something for everyone.

Excellent organizer!.......2006-11-10
I bought this book/organizer because I can be a little [...] retentive with details and I wasn't sure exactly where to start since I'm the first in my family to plan a wedding in the last 20 years. it has been extremely helpful in both information and organization. It does work! Plus, there are a ton of worksheets in it that think of things I would normally have forgotten about until it was too late. Very helpful!
This planner gives careful attention to all wedding tasks.......2005-03-24
Your wedding vision is the starting point in Your Stress Free Wedding Planner - Expert's Best Secrets to Creating the Wedding of Your Dreams by Judy Allen. After couples complete an independent questionnaire, they will have a better understanding of their thoughts and dreams about creating a custom wedding. This planner gives careful attention to all wedding tasks, therefore, leaving no assignment unaccomplished. The only drawback for this planner would be difficulty removing the pages from its spiral binding as the planner recommends for copymaking.
Straightforward and helpful wedding planner.......2004-11-08
I have purchased four different wedding planners and miscellaneous wedding planning books over the last year and this is one worth buying. All the wedding related books I have purchased have some helpful things and some not so helpful things but this one I have not found a page in it that has not been helpful. The book breaks the planning process down into ten easy steps to simplify the planning process. This book also has a handful of different questionnaires for you and your fiancée to take. The wedding vision questionnaire helps you better understand each other's "dream" wedding and then helps you to make that into "our dream wedding". It also includes questionnaires for choosing a ceremony site, reception site, supplier questionnaires and many worksheets to help you plan your big day. As you will see if you look at reviews of the other event planning books by this author she knows what she is talking about when it comings to planning a corporate party or a wedding. I would highly recommend this book to anyone planning a wedding who would like to not go insane in the process.

Book Description
Bridal Passport Wedding Planner is the first wedding planner to help couples solve the most fundamental question about putting together a wedding: how to afford it! This organizer includes detailed worksheets, checklists, and calendars that let the prospective bride and groom write in all the details. For example, they can document three potential photographers, writing down their location, availability, cost, deposit, and so on to make the most educated decision for their budget. In an era when bridal magazines, according to The Wall Street Journal, "block ads from bridal wear discount and rental companies," this honest, authoritative guide is especially needed. Detailed website resources and in-depth tips on how to personalize a wedding make this book unique. The Fields's step-by-step approach to planning a wedding and reception leaves no detail uncovered; even the honeymoon. Best of all, Bridal Passport Wedding Planner features a concealed spiral binding that makes it a breeze to carry and use.

a lot of the same info.......2005-08-24
I bought both this planner and the Bridal Bargains. Even though a lot of the info was the same, the worksheets in this book were great because they spelled out the vital details to look for and ask about from vendors. I looked to the book for tips and to the planner for the specifics on information gathering. With the Amazon price at just over $10, it is worth it. I looked through every planner at the bookstore and I chose this one for two reasons first the reputation of the authors in their quest to inform unknowing brides of the dark side of the wedding industry and secondly because it was no frills and no nonsense - it approaches planning in a clear cut and easy to tackle manner.
Save money and skip it.......2005-03-08
I loved "Bridal Bargains" and got this planner to go with it. I didn't really need it. It's a workbook but I find that I visit so many vendors that I can't fit all my notes into it. It pretty much has the same information as "Bridal Bargains" but less of it. Do yourself a favor and get "Bridal Bargains" only. Use a 3-ring binder, some dividers, and notebook paper as a planner.

Customer Reviews:
Ms Nettleton seems sincerely deluded ... :-0.......2006-01-20
This book is hilarious, evidently written toungue-in-cheek. It is also at least to some extent fictitious, regarding her personal experiences, so perhaps it is best read as such.
One example of this is that she states her fourth husband "Bill" 'has no children of his own'. This is untrue. He has three children he adopted and then chose to walk out on. Perhaps Ms. Nettleton was unaware of this fact at the time her book went to print. That would, however, not really speak well to her doing due diligence on her suitors before marrying them!
Outdated Advice.......2003-02-14
I'm getting married again after 20 years of being single & was looking for relevant advice. It was not to be found in this book. It's a very traditional stodgy book for people who are afraid to break the rules. There are better choices out there. Hint: look for books with the word "grownup" in the title!
Finally the help I needed!.......2002-09-03
This insightful book is filled with wonderful, practical tips. It is written in a clever, entertaining and straightforward manner that is most refreshing in comparison to the other bridal self-help books. I especially appreciated the websites offered for further assistance. As an "Encore Bride", I say BRAVO!
Just In Case.......2001-07-24
I've only been married once and have no imminent plans to do it again. However, once I picked up Nettleton's book I couldn't put it down. It seems like a terrific resource not just for the second (or third, or fourth) time around, but even for those taking the leap for the first time. The author makes all the details seem actually manageable through the stories and checklists and her unique insights. I have a copy JUST IN CASE I might need it in the future as well as to help me guide friends and family who are going through the process.
Great.......2001-04-20
If you're looking to give it another try, make sure to buy this book. The author has plenty of experience with getting hitched, in fact, I can't think of anyone who's been married more than Pamela Hill Nettleton, maybe Elizabeth Taylor. But since Liz hasn't written a book on the subject, I'll leave it up to Nettleton. I'm a divorced kid with parent who are both remarried. It's important to keep the kids in mind when trying it again, and Nettleton makes sure you don't look over that point. Did I mention funny? Going through marriage four times has to be difficult, but with Nettleton's humor it's just more material.

Customer Reviews:
I got this as a gift, and I really liked it!.......2000-07-11
I disagree with the other reviewers, I think this book was very helpful and useful, even for rthe not so rich. For example, one of my favorite parts was illustrations of different wedding gown types such as diffent necklines and waist styles. It t even recommend the most flattering dress style for different figures. It gives information about popular wedding flowers and their season of availability. It gives suggestions for wording on invitations no matter who is hosting. It has a checklist of neccessary bridal regisrty items. Another one of my favorite parts is that it gives thank you gift ideas for your attendants, and the parents of the bride and groom. I thought this made a terrific gift and has proved to be very, very helpful.
We aren't all self made millionaires with money to burn............1999-05-13
Let us please have a book/magazine that is targeted to the bride/bridegroom on a limited budget. Just because we don't have orchids, Dom Perignon and caviar on some veranda in the south of France, doesn't mean we can't have a beautiful, elegant wedding. Etiquette??? Bah humbug. It's the 90's. Who cares?? Etiquette went out the window with finger bowls in the 1890's. You don't need a magazine to tell you how to behave yourself in polite company.
Why not target the second time around Bride? 50% of marriages end in divorce! This isn't my lst wedding, either. Let's get REAL.
Thank you.
Barbara Stevenson/Chicago
Boring and unreasonable.......1999-03-05
This book is for people who do not have a wedding budget and who can afford a $100,000.00 wedding. This book is so dry and boring talking about etiquete it puts you to sleep. It makes planning a wedding seem like planning a funeral. No fun at all.
If you have a budget of 6 digits or more..........1999-01-15
I was extremely dissapointed with this book. Modern Bride has a history of keeping brides-to-be in the dark about budgeting ideas and ways to cut corners. They continually insist that everyone NEEDS a bridal consultant and that a wedding gown should only be purchased through an expensive private boutique. I found many other wedding books to be so much more helpful that I suggest looking around some more before buying this book. Denise Fields and Diane Warner are some authors who HAVE created some excellent books.
