The Knucklehead motor was faithfully replicated by Tedd Cycle, Inc. and released on January 9, 2002; along with the (Linkert carburetor-intake port) OEM-style Pan cylinder heads in three models: The 1948-'54 (plumber manifold); the 1955-'62 (O-Ring manifold); and the 1963-'65 (external oiler) style.

Our shop manual was written for existing "runners"; and for "builders" of Knuckle & Panhead motorcycles using new, replicated parts. Some topics covered in the step-by-step procedures are not in other OEM Harley manuals, or the excellent Clymer's Panhead manual. When another manual suggest, "replacing the clutch hub liner..." we show you how, and the tools and parts necessary.

Read on through the editorials section for more story on where the Replication adventure is headed. The "motorcycle buying and building public" is still asleep about Knuckleheads. They want to see some pioneers go before them and blaze a trail of standards first. However, there are people out there (like Chris Haynes) that are already building cross-modeled "bobbers" with Knucklehead frames and (early army) XA spring forks (or 1949-'59 Glide forks); fitting upswept shotgun exhaust and KH barrel mufflers. Utilizing the interchangeability of a (1936-1964) 28-year parts run, these mix-and-match possibilities allow a builder to create a unique design, while still using replicated Harley-Davidson components.

I'll keep this short and to the point. As the title says, this is the best "tool" I have in my tool chest. The information in this book has helped me more times then I can recollect. The book is written from a practical perspective and isn't full of theoretical "how to". It even includes descriptions of how to make some of the special tools you'll need from items you probably have laying around your shop. I can't wait for Vol. 2!

Be a man drive a Pan.......2001-11-23

This book is lacking in some important areas. No carburetors, no transmissions, no brakes. Need to know how to adjust your mousetrap, change springs on a springer, or fix a leak on your hydraulic front end? You won't find it in this book. The topics it does cover are great, easy to understand, and well detailed. The bottom line is I do use this book and it has become a permanent part of my shop library.

I am looking into buying a Pan, and searching for more than anecdotal information. This book is the best source of Pan info I have read so far. It helped me realize that a Pan wasn't the best choice, and that I would need to spend a lot of time wrenching, instead of riding.

I wish they'd write one for Shovelheads!!

Great Intorduction.......2007-06-26

This book is a great introduction into motorcycle repair. It also does a good job of explaining how different types of engines work. It has many pictures to help the reader understand the concepts being discussed. The book is very general becuase it tries to have wide applicabilty, but is great supplement for people who are just learning about motorcycle mechanics and repair.

Too general for me.......2006-02-20

This book reminds me of a children's book in its style. While it does give good information, one would be better suited to go with the Essential guide to Motorcycle Maintenance. This book has lots of pictures, but too little text. You will rapidly "outgrow" this book. Mark Zimmerman's book is one that you can "grow into."

Printed in China.......2006-01-10

A pretty basic book which unbeknownst to me when I placed my order is printed in China on cheap stock. I try to buy made/printed in the USA products when possible and never buy Chinese. I know it's hard to do but I don't need anything badly enough to sell out my beliefs for a couple of dollars in savings for a lower quality product. Save your money. I'm sending this one back.

Excellent Overview of Motorcycles.......2005-06-29

Although I consider myself a pretty proficient backyard mechanic, I've never owned a bike before so I decided to add this to my Clymer manual that covers my exact model. What a great combo! The Clymer covers the specifics of my bike while the "Motorcycle Owner's Manual" covers basics of all bikes and has excellent sidebars on how things work. I especially liked the explaination of the two-stroke engine and the four-stroke as used in a motorcycle. Plus, if I ever sell my Suzuki, I have a general manual that will still be useful for my next bike.

Good Starter Book.......2005-02-25

I give this a 5-star for the fact that it's clear and understanding and will be very helpful for someone starting out or interested in motorcycles. Wether your young or older and have no background on mechanics, this book will teach you the basics, and you wont have to kill yourself trying to figure out how to do something, because this book makes it easy. Its how a book should be.
Its for beginners of course, not for people who already know this stuff and still post bad reviews because they think there should be more, duh! what do you expect!
The author did a fine Job, my hats off to ya....

I wish there were more books published for toyota fans.......2006-10-16

The first chapter is good for general information on Toyotas. The rest of the book is rather general information on vehicle maintenance. If you know little about vehicle mechanicals, this would be a useful book. If you are fairly competent with trouble shooting and maintenance, this isn't for you. I am a huge Toyota fan and just wanted the complete library. There is not much Toyota stuff published in printed medium. Using the Chevy small-block bulid up is good general information, but he should have at least used an overhead cam engine in a Toyota book. Listing truck before Land Cruiser in the title is misleading, considering that it seems the far less common Land Cruisers are discussed far more.

If you at all care about classic Toyota engineering, don't get this book. Basically I was not expecting much except a good historical perspective on toyota trucks and land cruisers. However, all of the photos in the book are "modified" trucks and land cruisers with ugly "after-factory" wheels and tires. These trucks are disturbing to the pure toyota person to look at. Also, the engine section is based around building a chevy 383 for an fj-40. Hardly worth reading. In short, Moses Ludel is a chevy guy giving you information on how to ruin your Toyota.

First class professional's insight.......2002-01-28

This is an excellent book for most Toyota truck owners. Its goal is not replace shop repair manual. How many would enjoin to read a repair manual? In the sense of how to appreciate and take care your Toyota truck, this is the best one and very easy to read. It has made Toyota truck very comprehensible for a non-mechanic like me.

I bought his Chevy Truck Owner's Bible and found it quite good, a good overview of the line with some good, in-depth info on changes between model years and available equipment. I'm now considering purchasing a Toyota truck and looked at this book for the same info but was very disappointed. Whole sections seem lifted straight out of the Chevy book, even many of the pictures and procedures shown appear to show work being done on (early) Chevys. While this was great info for the Chevy book I was less than impressed when it was included in a book on Toyotas. Further, the book contains very little comparative information on Toyotas over the years (i.e. what model years and engines/transmissions/axles are best, problems to look out for) and didn't nearly approach the breadth of information I have found in other sources. It makes for a bit of a confused read; you can figure out what iron-case 4 speed out of a 70's American truck would be strongest were you to swap one into your Toyota but you can't figure out if there are any differences between the transmissions and axles offered stock in the vehicles. I think the basic fact is that Moses' experience probable lies closer to fullsize American vehicles than the smaller imports.

This is a very good book for my 1982 Yamaha XJ750-r. It is one of the few I found that were available. Many illustrations with a down to earth HOWTO approach. I like it.

Haynes Publishing Strikes "Gold" Again!.......1999-08-24

Haynes has always published fine manuals for the home mechanic and this is another. The layout is one that previous users are familiar with and new users will find easy to follow. The photos accompanying the text are well done and support the section explanations rather well. As is typical for a Haynes manual, though, is the assumption that the reader is beyond the "novice" stage of performing maintenance. Simple procedures such as changing plugs and oil are complicated on this model of Wing because of the intricacy of the fairings surrounding the engine and frame. Many of the tabs and posts used to secure the pieces require particular motions to unfasten. The manual merely states that one should take care so as to not break a tab or post during removal. The electrical schematics are quite good and make troubleshooting much easier. All in all, another fine product from Haynes.

This is a great book for minor OR major repair to Vespa scooters. It covers vintage models of different styles. For the Sprint 150cc, I found the wiring diagram easy and helpful. It appears the diagrams for others were as complete. All were color coded as well. The book is well illustrated for most any job necessary.

A must have maintence manual for your vintage Vespa..........2006-04-11

If you own a vinatge Vespa from 1959-1978 you should own this service manual even if you don't plan on working on your scooter. It helps with routine maintence, trouble shooting, and just basic knowledge of your machine. Take care of you scooter and it will take care of you. Tons of pictures, parts and wire diagrams. A MUST HAVE!!!!
