3 out of 5 stars One of Putumayo's better European compilations.......2006-06-30

Europe is a mixed bag musically, despite all the disparate countries now being the European Union. This explains the varying quality of Putumayo's European compilations;while I enjoy "Greece:A Musical Odyssey",with its combination of modern&traditional elements as well as "Athens to Andalucia",I find "Paris"&"French Cafe" sappy&annoying.

So it is with "Euro Lounge." The Lounge series is one of Putumayo's best series."Euro Lounge" isn't the strongest, but it's still good.It has a continental sensibility, reflecting France,Italy, the Netherlands,Spain--and even Macedonia&Turkey.

Highlights-
1)Un Simple Histoire-Thievery Corporation adds its own trip hop twist to chanson.
2)Limbe-An ethereal composition from Italy. It's also got bhangra, which makes it worthy.
3)Salpica-A funny techno Latino tune.Mambotur has a sense of fun.Now I should get some Senor Coconut, with his techno Latino twist of Kraftwerk with his "El Baile Aleman."
4)Girl-A mysterious,jazzy tune from Turkey.Smooth Turkish jazz--it's Turkish delight.
5)Sweet Sadness-Another easygoing,bittersweet tune from Italy.
6)Stojne Bre Mome Kocansko-A hypnotic tune sung by a septuganerian from Macedonia.
7)El Ultimo Habitante del Planeta-A humorous tune from Spain, complete with a theremin fit for a '50s sci-fi movie.
8)Voulez-vous?-Arling&Cameron at their cheesy best.

"Sempre de domenica"&"Non Sarai Mai" are okay compositions from Italy.

While not the best of Putumayo's Lounge CDs,it is one of their better European compilations. It's a relaxing CD,fit to accompany tapas&Sangiovese.

1 out of 5 stars Euro Lounge Best of the Series.......2005-09-20

I bought both World Lounge and Euro Lounge, Euro is the best by far!

5 out of 5 stars Very good!.......2005-04-17

This CD does a good job as Putumayo's second installment to their lounge CD collections. With beats from all across Europe, this CD goes to the heart of Euro-Lounge music. This is one of the best lounge CDs I've had the pleasure of listening to and am quite impressed with it. Also, the cover art-work, in my opinion, is very cool. I verily recommend this album to any and all who are fans of this type of music.

4 out of 5 stars A very good compilation of artists, I must admit I knew only.......2005-01-13

of Thievery Corporation before I heard this, I discovered it at my local library and the title intrigued me enough to check it out and I really was astounded at the variety of music they had, ever since this I've gotten more into downtempo electronica, trip hop, acid jazz, and it was all because of this album,

I still listen to it on a regular basis and enjoy it very much. I personally recommend trying it out first by downloading songs by these artists on iTUNES but that's just me and my online music shopping obsession, so far I think I've spent around $175 dollars online on iTUNES which is way more than what I used to buy when I bought CDs, I can go on about the advantages of iTUNES but this isn't a review of that is it now? Anyways, it's not a high price at all so check it out if you want, or you can do the iTUNES thing but, whatever.

5 out of 5 stars gets you in the mood..........2005-01-11

i discovered this cd while browsing in a small shop in kapa'a, kauai. we spent the rest of our holiday listening to the gentle beats of salpica and limbe. i am addicted. when we got home, i promptly purchased an s-tone and mambatour albums - we were not disappointed!

After a three year absence, Six Degrees Records revives their popular annual Traveler Complilation series to once again showcase the year's best in global grooves. This latest musical dispatch features a variety of Six Degrees favorites like Cheb i Sabbah, Karsh Kale and Issa Bagayogo rubbing elbows with newcomers Shrift, Bombay Dub Orchestra and Niyaz. Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Bring da global noize!.......2006-03-24

While I love just about everything the Six Degrees crew puts out, this is by far the most "banging" of the annual Traveler compilations. The emphasis on the '06 edition of this series is on HEAVY Dance-floor beats! With remixers like Dalata, Banco de Gaia, Junkie XL and Temple of Sound putting their own spin on the Six D posse, how could this be anything but slamming? This aint your grandpa's world music, that's for sure!

3 out of 5 stars Some big beats but also some generic remixes.......2006-03-22

(3 & 1/2 stars) I've generally enjoyed the Traveler compilations and also have a lot of respect for the Six Degrees label. They (6D) basically restored my faith in the remix concept with the amazing Latin Project remix of Bebel Gilberto's "Aganju" a couple of years back. Normally I consider remixes to be a bit of a ripoff --- i.e., when I buy a new CD and see that it has extra tracks, I think "Cool." Then I see they're just remixes, it's more like "too bad, they're not actual new songs..." As for this new Trav. 06 disc, it's got a few fine remixes, but also several more that fall into my familiar "too bad..." category. Among the former (good remix) songs are the opener, an eerie yet percussive Junkie XL take on Niyaz's song "Dilruba," as well as the contrast of airy vocals and swollen drum beats on Shift's "As Far As I Can See" (a Da Lata mix). The "too generic" group of songs includes the Banco de Gaia remix of MIDIval Punditz, a boring effort that uses just about every remix cliche in the book. Overall, though, this is a relatively interesting CD. The good outweighs the bad, just barely.

This album offers 12 enlightening cover versions of Western pop tunes, as performed by artists from places like France, Spain, South Africa, Germany, and Mali. It's always instructive to glimpse how one culture's music is perceived by another, whether through a funhouse mirror, from under a microscope, or even face-to-face. The performances gathered here range from misguided (Albert Pla's bizarre Spanish language take on Lou Reed's "Take A Walk On The Wild Side") to hilarious (Fatal Mambo's salsa interpretation of Mungo Jerry's "In The Summertime") to a delightful breath of fresh air (Malian girl group Les Go's version of Hall & Oates' "I Can¹t Go For That"). Nenes' earnest Japanese-language rendition of Bob Marley's "No Woman No Cry" is laced with plangent plucked samisens and is somehow extremely touching. Other attempts are less effective, but at least none of them come across as cynical and all are worth a listen. --Christina Roden

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great collection of covers.......2007-06-24

This is a must have for world music lovers, especially those who have American or British favorites they love to hear in new ways. This is one of my favorite world music CD's and probably the one I listen to the most.

5 out of 5 stars Eye-opening! Definitely worth the money.......2007-01-31

This CD is unlike any other. One culture takes on another's idea of a popular hit, and reinterprets it through their own set of cultural lenses. The result is utterly fascinating. It is a fun listen...but also a study of people, of music, of psychology, of music, of intercultural interaction. Don't miss this one!

5 out of 5 stars The Best of Both Worlds.......2006-11-14

I don't know, maybe it's just because I cut my teeth on world music three and a half years ago with this CD and Putumayo's "Global Soul", which came out at about the same time. I love both of them. "Cover the World" takes a very fresh look at some standards that you may already be familiar with.

As mentioned elsewhere, the two songs by Ladysmith Black Mambazo - "People Get Ready", with Phoebe Snow (originally done by The Impressions), and "Ain't No Sunshine" with Des'ree (originally by Bill Withers) - are alone worth the price of the CD. I played "People Get Ready" over and over when I first got the CD, and still haven't tired of it. Angelique Kidjo puts her own unique spin on the Jimi Hendrix standard "Voodoo Child", as do Les Go ("The Girls") on "I Can't Go For That", originally performed by Hall and Oates. Chris Ardoin and his group Double Clutchin' may give you a new appreciation for zydeco with their rendition of "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher" (originally done by Jackie Wilson), and may even motivate you to check out his brother, Sean Ardoin & Zydekool, as well. Finally, Tukuleur, two brothers from Senegal whose music I cannot locate in the United States with the exception of the one song on this CD, make the song "Afrika (Africa)" (originally by Toto, whom I don't remember) their very own. There are no bad songs on the CD, but those are the best of the lot.

"Cover the World" and "Global Soul" almost single-handedly provided me with the bridge I needed to the wonderful, amazing universe of world music, and they may just do the same for you.

1 out of 5 stars Gets old PDQ!.......2006-07-21

I used to work at a store in the mall, that often circulated several putumayo titles on our sound system which we also sold. We had Cuba, Samba Bossa Nova, Asian Groove, Arabic Groove, Zydeco, World Lounge, African Groove, Euro Lounge, Global Soul, just to name a few! I loved them all, even after listening to them every time I worked for almost a year...except one! Cover the world, drove me up the wall the first few times I heard it. Now, there are a few good songs on here ("Ain't no sunshine", is my fav) but overall, not for long term listening in my opinion. Hearing Asian women sing "No woman no cry" gets flat out annoying after awhile! Would recommend the titles I stated above, over this one.

3 out of 5 stars Fun--but not one of Putomayo's most stellar works....mm.......2006-03-02

Most of the Putomayo I own are CDs I can play over and over. "Cover the World" was interesting the first time around, but I doubt I will be revisiting the collection as often as I do "Celtic Tides" or any of the others with more original works.

Standouts are Kidjo's "Voodoo Child," and the 2 selections by Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

4 out of 5 stars nice mix of international R&B/soul.......2007-01-12

I generally like the Putumayo cds, and this one is no different. It has a nice mix of R&B/soul (with a little hip hop and funk through in for good measure). Putumayo has gotten much better about annotating the music. The accompanying booklet has a picture of each artist, the country, a brief description of the artist, and a translation of a few keys lines of lyrics. I particularly liked TID's song Zeze. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars The Perfect Groove.......2006-05-12

I was at the Field Museum gift shop in Chicago and after grooving to the music they were playing for the 20 minutes I was in the store I stopped and asked what it was. It was Global Soul. This album has undeniable funk that is smooth and mellow but at the same time will groove you enough you can motivate. Global Soul is the perfect blend of the perfect grooves.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD -- check out Cameroonian songtress Kaïssa!.......2004-06-22

This a great CD I picked up after hearing Kaïssa's Duala version of 'Superstar' from Jazzhole's "Circle of the Sun" album on WERS in Boston. Kaïssa is an immensely talented singer from Cameroon working and performing in New York, sometimes with Jazzhole, sometimes solo. Leave it to Putamayo to compile such a diverse collection of amazing, independent artists! Don't miss this one!

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT.......2003-12-22

The cd is perfect and is an excellent way to learn about artist from other countries.

5 out of 5 stars Soulful Globe.......2003-11-14

I enjoy this cd very much and listen to it often. It's an easy listen and even though I do not speak the languages, the groove is undeniably universal and powerful. I plan to share this as presents for family all over, including Australia, Jamaica, England.....this music sends me places I haven't been and brings back rhythmic memories of many places I have.

Yet another jewel in the Putumayo crown, Women of Spirit brings us an hour of soulfully respondent music from round the globe, made by women whose sound is full like lips, round like hips, and solid like bare feet on fertile earth. Women of Spirit is musky, sensuous, and womanly, at once wise and gloriously ripe. From the opening "Inexile," performed by Capercaille with Siberia, in which Karen Matheson's throaty alto wail soars round reeling Celtic fiddle, to the closing "A Song," featuring the mother-daughter African-American gospel blues harmony of Toshi Reagon and Bernice Johnson Reagon, Women of Spirit celebrates the stages not only of womanhood, but of the entire life cycle. Ani DiFranco's distinctively styled ringing guitar picking twined with her bust-loose vocals on the chorus of "Done Wrong" is deeply affecting. Cassandra Wilson shines on "Death Letter," and the exotic chant and slide of the French-Sudanese Groupe Oiywan makes staying still near impossible. This collection beckons one to embrace life, move to the rhythm, and find comfort in knowing that we are most powerful as a tribe. --Paige La Grone

5 out of 5 stars Run...don't walk...get this CD!!!.......2007-01-31

One of the very, very best. You'll find yourself reaching for this one again and again. Beautiful, complex, fulfilling... you'll hear new things every time you play this CD. Highly recommended and worth every penny.

5 out of 5 stars Insanely Beautiful.......2005-10-03

Women of Spirit is, without reservation, the best Putumayo album ever to be released. Filled to the brim with radiance, passion, and the irrepressible light all wonderful female vocalists can bring to their work, this is like an international Lilith Fair.

With soulful works originating from anywhere from Greece to South Africa, Women of Spirit compiles some of the best female vocalists to ever grace the planet. Including Ani DiFranco's "Done Wrong," Capercaillie's "Inexile," Ima Galguen's "La Zarza," and Savina Yannatuo's "El Sueno de la Hija del Rey" as some of the shining stars, as well as songs from Susana Baca and Tarika, both previously covered by Putumayo.

Ranging from a crystalline, delicate Celtic/Mediterranean sound to harsh, tender, and sprawling melodies from the USA, this record truly has spirit guaranteed to outshine nearly everything else.

As Maya Angelou, whose quote introduces the album, says, "Being a woman is hard work. Not without joy and even ecstasy, but still relentless, unending work." Here is a record to remove our minds from these burdens, a collection of music that is peaceful, sexy, uplifting, or just insanely beautiful by turns.

5 out of 5 stars Exploring new worlds.......2004-01-04

Deciding my favorite tracks on this CD was harder than for many others. In most compilations one or two tracks stand out. In this, different tracks grew on me at different rates. The collection as a whole settled slowly; how well it went together was only appreciated after several listenings.

5 out of 5 stars Great background or driving music!.......2002-12-16

This CD was given to me as a gift, and I must admit, I was a little skeptical. Much to my surpirse and delight, it's a fabulous CD with a mix of world influences. I'm in the process of tracking down entire albums from some of the artists on Women of Spirit.

5 out of 5 stars I didn't even know world music.......2005-05-07

One World is one of our two or three favorite albums. The selection of songs is inspired.

By now too, we've given One World to friends and family. Everyone has really enjoyed it.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful and Diverse!.......2002-10-06

I got this CD for my birthday and played it immediately. I was instantly floored by the quality and diversity of the music. I love the fact that Russian, Jamaican, Scottish, and African music (just to mention a few) are all on the same CD. It really lets you recognize the similarities (and differences) of music around the world.

It says in the liner notes that unfortunately Putumayo was not able to include Asian or Latin music on this disc, but if you want to hear that music, buy "Music from the Tea Lands" or "Latin Groove" (this in no way makes "One World" less recommended).

I would have to say that my favorite tracks on this album would be "Ohureo" from Cameroon/UK and "Dalshe" from Russia. "Ohureo" is beautiful, haunting, and melodic. The song just flows so beautifully. "Dalshe" is a little less folk-y. The pumping bass, the awesome melody, and everything in general about this song is excellent.

These are songs you would not, and could not, find anywhere else than this CD. BUY IT NOW AND SEE WHAT YOU'VE BEEN MISSING!!!

4 out of 5 stars one world.......2000-11-06

Already own Putumayo's children's music CD. This one is also great! Peter Gabriel, Toure Kunda and Toni Childs are especially good, but all the tracks are well produced and filled with energy. Liner notes are exceptional.

4 out of 5 stars Intro to world music.......2000-04-29

An energetic sampler of world music. An excellent starting point for anyone interested in international pop music, especially the hybrid sounds of Africa and Europe. This music will get you off of your couch. Any age listener will enjoy these vocalists.

In celebration of the millennium, Putumayo, known for its roots, folk, and international musics, casts a wider net than ever with New World Party. A thoroughly digable collection, these 11 songs not only go global, but hit the club circuit as well, spinning out a rockin' celebration of Algerian funk, Brazilian rhythm & blues, Haitian-Creole rap, and Senegalese hip-hop. Loaded with fat beats and pumping with energetic melody, the offerings of New World Party get the good times started and keep the booties shaking long past midnight. Chico César's "Da Licenca M" (or "Excuse Me, Dude") brews up some reggae-inflected Brazilian pop music, Miriam Makeba updates her signature South African song (a hit in 1967) to "Pata Pata 2000," and things kick into high gear when Los Mocosos refresh the classic Mexican tune "La Boa" with a raunchy salsa style crossed with modern swing. New World Party is terrific for those wishing to branch out, yet not knowing where to begin sampling more exotic fare. The Fugees' Wyclef Jean scores some points with "Sang Fezi," which, with the Refugee Allstars' fine accompaniment and Lauryn Hill wailing an English chorus, is one of the record's strongest tracks. --Paige La Grone

5 out of 5 stars A new world of dance.......2006-06-16

It's a shame this album is no longer in print. While I wasn't impressed with the album's first two tracks (Miriam Makeba's 'Pata Pata' REALLY didn't need 'updating'&'Lobster Song' is slightly annoying),the rest goes from strength to strength.

Hamid Baroudi's "Caravan II Baghdad" is wonderfully funky.Aby N'Dour (sister of the famous Youssou N'Dour)sings the great hip-hop tune "Xel." Even if you don't like hip-hop (I'm not a rap fan),N'Dour's song is powerful.Ramata Diakite (who is now known as Ramatou Diakite&is on Putumayo's recent "Mali" compilation)has a wondrous ode in honor of her mother, mixing Malian traditional music with technology.Gal Costa's "Habib" is light, infectious fun.Chico Cesar&Zeca Baleiro, the misfits of Brazilian pop, provide fun tracks.Los Mocosos&Wyclef Jean round it out with Latin flavors&Haitian hip-hop.Lauryn Hill sings with Wyclef Jean, providing a powerful narrative. The album ends with the seductive Brazilian Daude singing "Vamos fugir" with Djavan.Daude's song isn't technically dance music, but it is perfect for chill-out&romancing.

If only this album were back in print! It's one of Putumayo's best.

5 out of 5 stars Never grows old!.......2004-01-22

Over 4 years later and this music is still fresh! If you don't want to move, don't buy this CD. If you don't miss the groove, put your fingers in your ears. "Pata Pata" starts this party on the right foot (the "good foot" for those versed in the funk) and each song takes you to places in the world, your body finding new ways to move to the rhythms.

5 out of 5 stars Dance music at its best.......2001-06-12

This album just makes you wanna get up and dance. A fabulous mix of dance music from Senegal, Algeria, Brazil, South Africa, Mali, Haiti and even San Francisco's Mission District this is the perfect party album. It makes a refreshing change from the usual radio dance 'music' such as the Backstreet Boys et al. Includes not only lesser known artists but also bigger names such as Wyclef Jean and Miriam Makeba. The colourful 23 page booklet contains a page devoted to each artist, with a photo and artist and track information. Plus an essay about world dance music.

5 out of 5 stars A New World Experience.......2000-04-23

This CD is great. I listened to it three times straight when I first opened and I had never even heard of this CD before. It is defintely worth every penny!

4 out of 5 stars What a groove!.......2000-02-23

Boy, you can't help but move something when you hear this. Check out the Lobster Song by Dissidenten, what a groove!

It's been three decades since the iconoclastic Nigerian sax man Fela Ransome (a.k.a. Fela Anikulapo) Kuti and his drummer Tony Allen fused juju and highlife with American funk to create Afrobeat. Unfortunately, Fela's confrontational lyrics were as potent as the music and his fame was no protection against government retribution. He spent a lot of time in prison before dying of AIDS in 1997. Meanwhile, his son Femi Anikulapo Kuti and several other players have kept the coolly polyrhythmic and compulsively danceable groove going strong, as demonstrated by the the rough-and-ready tracks on this sampler. Highlights include Femi Kuti's exuberantly sexual "Beng Beng Beng," Kiala's lengthy praise-singing on "Batumwindu," Fela's own Egypt 80 led by Baba Ani on "Se Re Re," and Lagbaja's juicy, Yoruba-flavored "Side by Side." However, the pick hit is "Dirt And Blood," a tight, blistering social rant from Antibalas, a U.S.-based outfit. --Christina Roden

4 out of 5 stars solid afrofunk compilation .......2005-09-21

i dig this album a lot. It has many of the usual afrobeat artists on it: Antibalas, Tony Allen, Daktaris (now defunct: contains a number of members of Antibalas), Femi, Egypt 80. I already had a number of these tracks (and there are only 10 tracks on the album), perhaps that's why this review is only 4 stars.

I would definitely recommend that all you afrobeat heads check out a 100% charity afrobeat compilation for sudan called "ASAP: the afrobeat sudan aid project." The CD is only [...] and contains 12 tracks from many of these artists: Tony Allen (featuring fela kuti), Antibalas and Dele Sosimi, plus a number of really hot emerging afrobeat artists like Akoya, Kokolo, and Ikwunga. 4 out of 5 stars For real....Afrobeat no go die.......2004-05-04

I initially got this CD because it had the only other Lagbaja song that I don't have in my collection -"Side by Side". Perhaps, that's why I was pleased with the CD...I wasn't expecting much. It's a good CD, I particularly like Hugh Masekela's uniqueness in the song tittled "Fela"...nice! It's not a dancesong but it's something you'll enjoy listening to. And for the folks who were regulars at Fela's Shrine, I'll recommend the track- "Se Rere"(Baba Ani's national anthem at the Shrine). Baba Ani(Lekan Animashaun)wasn't as sharp as the good ol' Shrine days..but there's still that deep feeling when you listen to this song....ha! If only the truth were known. The other tracks like "Gbedu1" , "Dirt and Blood" etc are nice modern Afrobeat songs. How can I forget Egbon Femo's energizing "Beng, Beng, Beng"?

5 out of 5 stars great collection.......2002-08-19

It's a real shame that afrobeat never became mainstream in the states. Then again in this era of TRL and bland boy bands singing manufactured pop songs, I guess it's crazy to expect an American audience to sit through a 15 minute composition from afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti. Anyway, it's their loss.
This CD features a compilation of some of the best contemporary afrobeat tracks around. There are some great tracks like Dele Sosimi's "Gbedu 1", Kiala's "Batumwindu", and "Se re re" by Baba Ani. It took me a while to get into "Dirt and Blood" by Antibalas but it's slamming. However, my favorite track is "side by side", a commentary by Lagbaja on young girls( and their mamas ) in miniskirts giving young dudes high blood pressure.
A minor grouse I have with the playlist is the first track "The same blood". Tony Allen has far better material. "N.E.P.A" and "Road close" come to mind. Also, Groove Collective's "Crisis" does nothing for me. Perhaps a new compilation will feature some material from Lagos based musician Alariwo? The cat has some talent.
All in all, this is a good CD to have whether you are a fan or a newbie to afrobeat.

5 out of 5 stars A real kick.......2000-11-13

Ahhh here's another piece of evidence from where the real funk comes from. This afrorythm collection is a wonderful tribute to "Black President" Fela Kuti. May his rebel spirit never fade away. Horn-laden hypnosis mixed with the typical grooving polyrhythmics - spiritual and funky. A killing mixture of music which has became too rare.

Embracing the notion that all spiritual paths lead to the same source, Prayer is a gathering of voices and music raised in assorted forms of worship, supplication, and praise to a greater essence. Assembled and handsomely presented by Dean and Dudley Evenson on behalf of their cosmically inclined Soundings of the Planet label, Prayer is a wide-ranging compilation of artists who profess some affiliation to their designated religious perspective. Rebbe Soul opens the disc with a part-contemporary, part-traditional Jewish plea for "peace between the sons of Issac and the sons of Ishmael," followed by an organic Hindu groove evoked on sitar and percussion by vocalist Jai Uttal, and then an ethereal take on a Sikh perspective, sung in resonant, angelic fashion by Lorellei. The Savae Vocal Ensemble uses the Inca language Quechua to offer up its intriguing Gregorian-like chant, gently underscored by tribal shakers. Islam, Krishna, Buddhism, Christianity, and Native American thoughts are also expressed, concluding with "Green Tara Mantra," involving a disembodied-sounding chant coming from the Dalai Lama. "Eclectic" hardly seems an adequate label for this collection, but the word represents a fair appraisal of a far-reaching, generally subdued recording likely to appeal to like-minded seekers and world-music collectors. The enhanced CD offers additional details on the concept and participating artists. --Terry Wood

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Collection of Prayers & Chants From Around the World.......2007-06-07

"Prayer" is a deeply moving, beautiful collection of various prayers & chants from around the world - and I have to say that it's truly soul stirring!

I enjoy listening to music when I meditate & this has quickly become one of my favorite "meditation music" CD's! Although many of the songs are sung in a different language, you can feel their meaning within you - the music "speaks to you"...

I also really liked the liner notes that accompany this CD - they include short discussions on prayer - what it is & why it's so important, as well as the words for each of the songs, written in both the original language it was created in, as well as english.

Overall, I absolutely love this CD & I highly recommend it to anyone interested in prayer/chant music &/or music to help you get to that "special place" during meditation.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2005-02-19

This CD was the catalysts into my love for chant/kirtan music. Many great artists on this CD including my current fav's Jai Uttal and Krishna Das. Also a great chant by His Holiness the Dalai Lama chanting the Green Tara Mantra. The tone is reverent and peaceful. Get this Cd, you will love it.

5 out of 5 stars An awesome collection of chants.......2004-01-13

This is the best collection of prayers and chants we have come across. It should be in everybody's CD stash. It has a wonderful, world beat sound to each of the excellent tracks and then it ends up with the Dalai Lama doing the Green Tara Mantra with Dean Evenson accompanying on flute and keyboards. It doesn't get better than that! I pray everyone in the world gets to enjoy this wonderful CD. And spread the word, tell your friends. They will be happy too to hear it.

5 out of 5 stars Beautifully produced and deeply moving. Love it!.......1999-03-16

This release is beautiful to the ear as well as the soul. Listening to the ancient prayers and chants from so many spiritual paths and the fine instrumentation that accompanies them transports me into a deep state of peaceful reverance. I listen to it before I start my day, and at it's close. The sound is hypnotic and lovely. The spirit of this release connects me to all those who have asked the deep questions of life throughout time and have sung to their gods in supplication and in praise. A fine piece of work!
