About the Artist
Midtown Underground began in June 2002 literally underground in the art district of downtown Pontiac MI. A collective that has now grown to six solid members, MU was originally conceived primarily as an R&B/Jazz trio backing a vocalist. The group quickly picked up additional members along the way at jam sessions and gigs in and around metro Detroit. With the additional members came momentum. The end result is a tour de force of energized, highly danceable music intended to shake your bones and put a smile on your face. The Midtown Underground live repoirtoire consists of original material mixed with an array of old school funk, jazz, and R&B. Although the band takes great pride in paying homage to their musical heroes, the prevailing attitude is definitely modern. Their roots oriented tunes embrace the dynamic beats of past, present, and future Detroit music. The mission: Innovation, Truth, Respect, Improvisation, Meaning. And oh, by the way… Funky Ass Music.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2006-01-15

I enjoy listening to Midtown Underground, after hearing them play live a few times I was very happy when I herd that they had come out with there own CD. There music is unique and they make it completely there own. Seeing them live is a real treat as well because every preformance is different they are never the same when preforming theres always a little somthing diffrent that keeps you waiting to see what they'll do next.

If you like Jazz or if you just like music I would highly reccomend getting your hands on a copy of there CD as soon as possible.

5 out of 5 stars Fresh breath of air..........2006-01-15

Sick and tired of all the same sounding pop songs you are assuaged with on the radio? Try something that is at the same time funky, soulful, with jazz and blues undertones, and catchy like any good pop song should be...but far from the norm in terms of what today is considered "pop" music, it is a fresh breath of air for that genre, and a somewhat unique take on the fusion of pop, jazz, and soul making it truly funk from start to finish...

5 out of 5 stars Detroit Innovators.......2005-10-19

This anticipated release from Midtown Underground is a study on the studio integration of a well-tuned live sound. Midtown is no Studio band. For 3 years they have been breaking their backs playing Detroit's best clubs and building a fan base for a new sound never heard by many Detroit concert goers. Some have compared Midtown to Karl Denson, with vibrant Sax and a well polished rythym section. The vocals on this album are extraordinary, the guitar is very strong, but what stands out is the composition. Lyrically, Midtown writes with purpose and prose simple enough to infuse your memory, yet deep enough to make you think. This album deserves much consideration amongst a growing national soul movement - hell, by growing, Amazon doesn't even have a soul category.
