This is the premier album of 21-piece Toronto-based ensemble, the William David Fastenow Jazz Orchestra. Ullswater presents a sophisticated, imaginative, yet often humorous approach to the jazz orchestra sound. The recording features some of the finest up-and-coming coming artists in Canada.

The Best New Jazz Orchestra.......2003-11-28
I saw this band live in toronto when they first premiered the 'Jon Kay Sock Incident.' It was too funny... Jonathan Kay wore a kilt to the gig (i guess celebrating his ancestry) and stood up for his solo at the end of 'The Sock' and the crowd died. All these amazing sounds coming at us and here is this guy in a kilt--we could only guess all the inside jokes and stories that went into that tune! ...That is until Mr. Fastenow explained the story to us. Knowing the story, I can see it depicted in the liner notes (ALSO very artistically done-design by forbescreative.com and apparently WDF wrote all the words cover to cover and everything on the CD--even the Mingus tribute! wow~!)
Anyway, so this story was about a night the band spent hanging out at Mr. Kay's after a rehearsal. Kay apparently started lighting his sock on fire while it was still on his foot. Mr. Dulong threw it outside in the snow and Mr. Grieve went out and got it... then started hitting everybody in the ass with the sock... then decided it's be a good idea to see if he could lob it into Kay's mouth. Mr. Kay apparently got a BIG taste of the sock, grabbed his hockey stick and chased Mr. Grieve down the street barefoot. HAHA ---anyway think about that story next time you listen to this CD.
THIS IS A MUST HAVE!!! My wife and I absolutely love it. Every song tells a story. It's so easy to get captivated by every note and emotion-my wife isn't even a jazz fan, but she imagines the story to the song and gets pulled in! Check it out!!!
