Editorial Reviews
Dan Shelton began his professional music career at the age of fifteen when he formed his first country-western band while in high school. The Westernaires played several years around the Albuquerque area and at one point was the warm-up band for such visiting stars as Sonny James and Elton Britt. Dan also accompanied Glen Campbell at the Paradise Inn Supper.
As the Vietnam War grew Dan joined the Navy and was stationed on the nuclear aircraft carrier the USS Enterprise. He immediately started up a group that quickly was in demand for entertaining the crew. His group was extremely popular with the crew and helped to provide a break in the stress of the war. He was called upon to accompany such stars as Vickie Carr, Marla Mason and others that came to visit and was often airlifted by helicopter with such stars to provide shows on other ships while underway.
His group was kept busy during in port parties and also played at local clubs in Hong Kong and the Philippines. The music consisted of everything from rock and roll to country.
The next 32 years after the Navy found Dan as a Commercial Helicopter Pilot . Dan flew throughout the U.S., the Gulf of Mexico, South and Central America, Alaska and Hawaii. It gave him the opportunity to learn many styles of guitar to blend with his own. He has played at clubs and lounges all across the continental U.S. and Hawaii, including frequent engagements at the Sheraton Hotel on Kauai.
Dan plays a variety of styles, from popular "easy listening" tunes to extremely complex flamenco and classical music. He also loves to play the styles of Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed. His own original compositions that can be heard on his first CD "Soft Latin Nights" are a combination of Brazilian style guitar and slow melodic jazz. His next CD "Soft Romantic Nights" captured the popular standards and was so successful that he has released his third "Soft Dreamy Nights".
If you love the music from the 30 to the present you will love Dans music.
Dan is also an author having written the exciting novel "Assault on the Venture", much of which is based on his Navy experiences.
