Album Description

"THE 'UN' CD" (De-mystifying the Classics)

This is NOT your typical Classical CD! But Christopher Finkelmeyer is not your typical pianist. Performing Arts Organizations, audiences and U.S. & International critics have celebrated Finkelmeyer's audience-friendly presentations for reaching out to new listeners while never compromising the music. And that very passion for breaking down the barriers between audience and performer, in order to let the music shine through, has now been captured on this new release of solo Classical piano music ~ "Passionately UnStuffed".

Vincent van Gogh's "The Starry Night" graces the cover of the 20-page booklet - included with the CD - wherein the "unstuffed" personalities of the great composers come to life. Finkelmeyer conjures visions of Debussy on the Jerry Springer Show ("kick him to the curb, honey!"), Chopin flying coach ("I didn't get my bag of nuts!"), and Liszt smashing instruments on stage (the original rock star).

Like his performances, this CD, by the award-winning pianist hailed a "virtuoso of both technical and emotional power", features fare for the first-time Classical music listener and pianophile alike. Debussy's favorite "Clair de lune", Gershwin's jazzy "Three Preludes" and the beloved "Pavane for a Dead Princess" by Ravel mingle successfully with the virtually unheard Leschetizky "Romance", Gottschalk's seldom recorded "Union" and the finger-twisting virtuosity of Liszt's "Faust Waltzes".

The unique packaging of "Passionately UnStuffed" is certain to further Finkelmeyer's mission to open the door, and offer all people a chance to explore the wonderful world of Classical music!

Christopher Finkelmeyer has a way of putting the music into your heart and soul. He has a wonderful way of presenting his music that is unique to all others in the business. His personality comes forth when the music begins and he draws you into his world, which is a place you want to be. Passionately Unstuffed speaks volumes to all who listen to it. I highly recommend it!!

The playing on this cd is come of the finest I have ever heard. Tone, sensitivity, interpretation, lyricism, rhythmic power and sense of humor... It's just about everything you could hope to hear from the instrument. But the effect of this particular cd is not limited to the sound. Somehow this artist achieved the effect of extending himself and the composers directly to listeners as if he were in performance. The humorous, personal descriptions he's included in his liner notes bring this experience to life in a unique way that has been extremely successful with my students. I whole-heartedly recommend Passionately Unstuffed and look forward to Mr. Finkelmeyer's next project.

5 out of 5 stars Christopher Finkelmeyer: Passionatley Unstuffed.......2001-05-11

If you don't already love classical music, you will after listening to this album. It is intended for people who may be new to classical piano, but it is not the typical hodge-podge of light-weight snippets. Some of the pieces, such as Debussey's Clair de Lune, will be familiar to almost everyone, but Mr. Finkelmeyer plays them with such depth and feeling that one hears them as if for the first time. Most listeners will actually hear pieces such as Leschetizky's Consolation in B Major for the first time on this CD and wonder why it is not more popular. Mr. Finkelmeyer makes these and other slower, lyrical pieces sound easy, but his playing of Ginastera's Dance of the Artful Cowboy will immedately erase any doubts about his virtuosity. He is a powerhouse of music, yet even in the fastest pieces every note retains its clarity and brilliance.

Mr. Finkelmeyer's intelligence and wit shine not only in his playing, but also in the 20-pages of notes. His light-hearted comments on the composers and the music contribute immensely to the enjoyment of the music, but even without the CD they would be worth the price. If, Heaven forbid, Mr. Finkelmeyer ever tires of playing piano, he could have a second career as a comedy writer.

Buy this album for yourself, and buy several copies for your friends, especially the young ones, who think they hate classical music.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous.......2001-05-11

I love the entire CD and the variety of musical pieces. Although I particularly love the middle compositions. They are so beautiful and peaceful. They melt the stress away while at the same time giving you energy.

Album Description

"UNSPOKEN" is "...tranquility on tap." Over 70 minutes of soft, lyrical piano pieces. A perfect companion to work, dinner, relaxation and conversation.

This pleasing combination includes well-known pieces from the piano literature; rarely recorded works; as well as the artist's own Concert Improvisations on "Try to Remember" from the Broadway stage and the traditional favorite, "Danny Boy".

"UNSPOKEN" is Number 2 in award-winning pianist, Christopher Finkelmeyer's 8-Part "Un" Series geared toward offering audiences classical music in a readily accessible, personal style. While Part 1 of the Series, "PASSIONATELY UNSTUFFED" (also available on amazon.com), focuses on the history and inspiration of some of music's greatest masters, "UNSPOKEN" focuses on the experience of the listener. The 20 page booklet that accompanies "UNSPOKEN" is written with both the connoisseur and newcomer in mind. It shares some of the performer's personal thoughts both about playing, and listening to the pieces, in hopes to enrich the peaceful, quiet, contemplative "UNSPOKEN" experience.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Unspoken speaks volumes.......2004-12-16

Unspoken is Mr. Finkelmeyer's second CD in a projected series of eight that is intended to build the audience for classical music without dumbing it down. Like Passionately Unstuffed, the first in the series, it is a treat whether or not you habitually listen to classical music. Few of the selections in Unspoken demand the keyboard fireworks that Mr. Finkelmeyer displayed in the first CD, but they all reveal an understanding and feeling that are as impressive and expressive as technique. In some selections the spaces between tones have an eloquence reminiscent of a Miles Davis ballad. In a sense, this is what Unspoken is about; feelings that cannot be spoken or heard. Unspoken will be perfect with a glass of your favorite wine and your favorite person, or perhaps alone when you want to enjoy being a little melancholy. Get an extra copy for drives on lonely roads at night. Buy both CDs for any teenager you know who can still hear.

5 out of 5 stars GLORIOUS.......2004-03-20

UNSPOKEN glorious!
So soothing....am enjoying it as a background to my days!
Christopher Finkelmeyer is a brilliant musician! Thank you!

5 out of 5 stars Spoken - for "Unspoken".......2004-03-02

If you yearn to be musically touched by an artist who has a special gift for "soulspeaking" at the keyboard, Chris Finkelmeyer is your pianist, and Unspoken is your album!

These sumptuous musical gems truly put the "luck" back into the "13" tracks that will mesmerize you for 73:43 - total playing time. Prepare for an irresistible opening with Arvo Part's "Fur Alina" -here's a 20th century composer who has really captured a brief and haunting melody that makes you beg for more ! A passionate amateur pianist myself, I ran to order the sheet music for this piece and Granados' "The Maiden and the Nightingale". Chris' musical interpretations and virtuosity made me want to recreate these selections for my own piano repertoire. Whether the music is familiar to you or not, you will rejoice at their discovery. Concert improvisations "Danny Boy" and "Try to Remember" are so cleverly and beautifully composed they just "belong" with the standard romantic repertoire represented in "Unspoken".
If you're looking for a unique collection of classical music to relax by, meditate with, or to truly inspire, try it! The liner notes are the best I've ever read - this artistt generously shares his feelings about his interpretations. An incurable romantic myself, "Unspoken" is a treasure!

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable.......2004-01-27

When I put Unspoken into my cd player, I was extremely curious about what's new after I have been a real fan for Unstuffed. I listened to the first pieces while reading the booklet with the personal thoughts. I was totally gripped and I still am. In Germany I would say that this cd leads you to an emotional "Achterbahn", which means your feelings are going up and down while listening. Unspoken is another brilliant work of Christopher Finkelmeyer which I can recommend with all my heart to everybody who wants to experience individual moments, power, or even silence and so much else. It is hard to put all this into words as this is a very personal affair - so the title speaks for itself.

5 out of 5 stars A "Must Have" CD!.......2003-12-29

What an incredibly talented pianist! Chris has captured the essence of "Unspoken," providing a setting for reflection, emotion, and/or thought. His music soothes the soul--a beautiful accompaniment to life's ups and downs!

Product Description

Unforgotten Christmas is the third and newest release in a series of eight "Un" recordings by pianist, Christopher Finkelmeyer. Fans of the series have come to expect the unexpected in an "Un" recording. This time it takes the form of original music. Along with Finkelmeyer's hallmark lush tone, stunning musicality and masterful technique, "Unforgotten Christmas" distinguishes itself by the fact that fourteen, of the seventeen cuts (including the special minidisk), are his own Original Concert Improvisations on the Sacred Themes of Christmas. Whereas "Passionately Unstuffed" and "Unspoken" take the listener on a journey via the colorful, direct essays in their respective booklets, "Unforgotten Christmas" is a uniquely individual encounter, with no guide whatsoever, except for the listener's own experiences as he meets the familiar melodies of sacred Christmas music woven within a tapestry of exotic and classical harmonies. Other cuts include the Bach-Gounod Ave Maria , Brahms Intermezzo in Eb Major, and Bach-Busoni Awake the Voice Commands . A special recording on separate minidisk accompanies "Unforgotten Christmas" . It includes the single, 'Hymn to the Forgotten Soldier' written by Finkelmeyer as a reminder not to forget the men and women who return home from war. Perfect for a quiet evening alone, driving in traffic or accompanying an elegant Christmas dinner, "Unforgotten Christmas" with its lovely music, beautiful packaging, and special minidisk makes a truly memorable gift for hostesses, housewarmings, teachers, friends and family.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars New life to old chestnuts.......2006-12-24

I received Christopher Finkelmeyer's Unforgotten Christmas only a few days before Christmas, after most of the titles on it had long since become part of the background noise of the annual shopping frenzy. But being familiar with Mr. Finkelmeyer's previous two albums, Passionately Unstuffed and Unspoken, I knew this would be one album of Christmas music that would not only be played, but actually listened to. The familiar themes of the season are evident, but Mr. Finkelmeyer's improvisations make them so fresh that it is like hearing them for the first time. Even more significant, they evoke feelings that might well have been experienced by Christians of old, when a holy day was not merely a holiday. J. S. Bach, a religious man and no mean improviser himself, would surely approve of what Mr. Finkelmeyer has done with his "Ave Maria" and "Awake the Voice Commands." Finkelmeyer even manages to create something significant from "Away In a Manger" and "Ding Dong Merrily on High" while still capturing the fun. Like the first two of the projected series of eight "Un-" CDs, this one should inspire a love of real music in a new generation, and it will reawaken an appreciation of these familiar works in even the most jaded listener. The packaging is worthy of the music; it would be almost a shame to wrap this gift before giving it to friend.

5 out of 5 stars Unforgotten Christmas is simply Unforgettable!.......2006-12-16

If you wish to forget the concerns of the day, aid your meditation efforts, soothe or stir your soul, just listen to pianist Christopher Finkelmeyer's latest Christmas concert improvisations. He takes you on an improvisational classical piano journey that transforms the familiar melodies into new musical images. One piece after another, your heart swells with the audiant artistry that has already been stirred by the outstanding visual effects of the unique cover art packaging. You have to both see and hear it to believe that the artist, Finkelmeyer, has done it again! And if the 14 unforgettalbe tracks are not enough, then be sure to play the bonus mini disc that is included. Two more masterful improvisations to remember! So, if you "Wonder As You Wander," consider adding this to your music menu. It's a keeper - like all Christopher Finkelmeyer creations.

Gratefully,

Peggy Pugh
