I stumbled on to this CD at the store and I have fallen in love with it! I was searching here for more of his work becuase this CD is great. there isnt one bad track on the whole thing. Get it, you won't be sorry.

If you like Larry Carlton, you'll like Mark Baldwin.......1999-05-17

I became aware of Mark Baldwin through Brentwood Jazz Quartet, a contemporary jazz/christian group. I also have one of his jazz cafe solo projects. Mark Baldwin is a talented and gifted guitarist and musician. His guitar playing style is similar to Larry Carlton, jazz/blues. His composition is a throwback to contemporary jazz in its infancy in the later part of the seventies to early eighties. A combination of jazz,rock and blues. If you like Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Henderson of Tribal Tek/Tech, then you'll also like anything by Mark Baldwin. I can't comment on this CD since I haven't heard it, but if I had money I'd buy it, because I know that I can't go wrong with Mark.

The Real "Live At The Club" Album.......2006-01-20

For years jazz aficionados have enjoyed revealing the great secret that Cannonball Adderley's "Mercy Mercy Mercy" was not recorded "Live At The Club" as advertised on the cover, but was instead made "live" in the studio. Well as it turns out that original claim had some foundation. Cannonball did in fact record his band at "The Club" in Chicago, but earlier that year in March 1966. Those sessions see their first ever release on this CD as "Money in the Pocket." Cannonball's band at this time was one of the steadiest and most popular touring groups in jazz. Brother Nat and Joe Zawinul had been playing with him since the early 1960s, and Roy McCurdy was the group's regular drummer at this time. (Only bassist Herbie Lewis was in the group for a short period, with this his only recording with the quintet.) The result is incredible chemistry, even if the material leans a bit too much towards the funky/soulful crossover jazz of the day for my taste. Overall though, this is an enjoyable disc with good sound and great crowd presence, and it should be in every Cannonball collection.

This ain't too shabby........2005-09-03

This won't make a Johnny Smith, or Django Reinhardt of you but it sure should make you better. Unless you are a total loss it should make you think and expand your improvisation. Set up the CD in a repeat mode and go for it. You really don't want to play the same tired lick 35 times in a row do you? I think these are well worth the cost. (NOTHING gets 5 stars from me but my wife!)

This CD is a superb collection of 15 wonderful tracks of music. Each song is just as good as the one before it. I highly recommend In The Pocket to any connoisseur of fine music!

Fun Funky and very groovy baby!.......2002-09-29

This is instrumental nylon string guitar like you have never heard it....David Cullen isn't a "new age noodler" nor a classical robot. Cullen absolutely gets funky on a nylon string guitar in this collection of instrumentals that seems to be about 70 minutes! Great melodies, great grooves, intelligent harmonies....
if you like instrumental music this is a breath of fresh air!

If you are a jazz lover/bass player you have to have this album. Ray brown is at his best and the melodies are very catchy. Pick this one up great price for a double record.

Haven't heard this CD, but judging from their live performances at the Monterey Jazz Festival in California, 2003, they are a spectacularly different group full of joy and if the CD is anything like their live gig, buy the CD!

Both live and recorded, these guys simply bring fun and joy to your ears. Not only are they great all around musicians, accomplished in Jazz, Classical and Rock as well, not only are they of the new generation of young american talent who have supplemented their having done their time in the basement boot camps and endless fifty-dollar-a-night gigs with a foundation of years of serious scholastic study and degrees, but they are themselves having so much fun playing this stuff, and that is the contagious factor that comes across as you listen. Just grab this CD, have fun, and catch them at one of their many San Francisco/Bay Area live performances and just try to stand still. Last Mardi Gras opening for Zigaboo Modeliste was outstanding.
