During just the past six months, smooth-jazz guitarists Keith Robinson, JK, Gil Parris, and David Frazier have all emerged with solid recordings, each putting a unique twist on wes montgomery's timeless style. Add Nick Colionne to the funky side of that list. Colionne gives props to the legendary guitarist throughout his new CD, The Seduction. Lest we not catch on, he even titled a snappy, swinging quartet tune "Mr. Montgomery." The song is typical of Colionne's approach. He begins by playing a laid-back melody over Matt Rose's gentle piano harmony. Then he bursts into a more aggressive improvisation, bouncing along over a strolling groove generated by Ron Hall's sly bass and drummer Felix Pollard's brushes. Even on pop-funk tunes like "Winelight," Colionne finds a way to put the hook aside and to work out a colorful solo in deference to his muse. Mostly, the album presents small ensembles in a jam setting. But Colionne shows an equally effective romantic side with his sparse arrangement of the standard "You Go to My Head." (Although recording a second version featuring his own vocals was not the best idea.) It's rare to praise a recording for something it's missing, but Colionne's decision to forgo the requisite smooth-jazz saxophone voice helps his guitar playing stand out and allows the listener to take in another fascinating update of the classic Wes sound.

Breakdown is hilarious and the spoken section in One Mistake had us in stitches "You're over with - SEE YA!!"
I love this album partly for nostalgic reasons but partly because C&C were amazing producers. Tragically David Cole (one C) is no longer with us. If you love late 80's/early 90's dance music then buy this album. You'll find house, rap,r'n'b,ballads and lots more. Who cares if they didn't sing all the songs?!!! Martha shmartha!!!

In The "Seduction Zone".......2006-11-21
Straddling the worlds of disco, synth-pop, new wave, and smooth jazz, this is a thoroughly underappreciated ten-track collection of instrumental pop. All but two of the tracks were composed either by Last himself or by his son Ronald Last, and are extremely inventive combinations of jazz-rock fusion influences and synthesizers. The two non-original ones both have their origins in Giorgio Moroder's score for the Paul Schrader-directed 1980 film AMERICAN GIGOLO. One of them is "Night Drive", whose main melody is derived from the Blondie song "Call Me" that is on the AMERICAN GIGOLO soundtrack. The other one, of course, is "The Seduction", this album's title track and that movie's haunting love theme, with an uncredited alto sax solo by David Sanborn. That track was widely played on the radio and actually peaked at #28 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1980.
Last's "band", so to speak, consists of a lot of great musicians, including string arranger Sid Sharp; drummer Rick Marotta; guitarists Robert "Waddy" Wachtel and Lee Ritenour; keyboardists Don Grolnick and Michael Boddicker; bassist Abe Laboriel; and sax maestro Ernie Watts. All combine on this album for a lush but not syrupy experience from a time when production gimmickry had yet to swamp the recording process. A hugely worthwhile album for anyone with a taste for instrumental pop and rock of a compelling kind.

Traditional Enigma sound re-visited.......2006-11-02
Fading in to the excitement of the forthcoming session by Jens Gad....Violin-like intro with deep layers, radio talks are welcoming us again...Luisa Fernandez is opening the album with Spanish whispers, just like a typical Enigma album intro...Mysterious, swirling, seducing....Words into....
In The Recent Past
...the amazing sound effects travelling from left to right channels in my speakers...Setting a stunning athmosphere for the killer track of the album...Here we go deep into the sound of Jens once again....This is officially my Sadeness part 2. Gregorian chants, incredibly well produced beats with organ sound of Sadeness mixes...Low key shakukachi flutes blending with Sadeness Reprise-like piano solo...All combined with magic...Luisa Fernandez continues whisperings throughout the song...You really need to listen to this track as loud as you listen to Sadeness! While gently fading out we are introduced...
The Delta of The Red River
..with yet another bells from E1 era..Flutes, breathing voices, a deep bass line...And SANDRA! Yes, you hear a short breath sample and the main beat kicks in...Totally mind blowing, totally in harmony with Er-Hu violins..Male talks in the background.Invention of this beat is well worth to credit in the music scene..This is something really new, not a repeat from the past actually..Bass line requires real good speakers to enjoy the wave in your interior organs...Flutes are blending into the...
Nothern Horizon
...hypnotizing washing-machine-like effect...Yes, there's no better way to describe the sound effect..Then the Exactly the same hi-hats from Sadeness fades in -slowly-, the beat is more like Mea culpa...This is a very catchy song for all E1 Fans....Then we hear a voice, it is not a Er-Hu violin but a voice, this is Helene (from Achillea) Suddenly I get the same feeling all over again - remember the substitution of flutes and the vocoder voice on Push The Limits, this is not the same but, Jen's plan fits well to this- you are confused with the similarity of Helene's voice with the violin...Do human voice resemble the nature or the instruments are actually us?? Xylophones are blended with a true jazzy base...Perfect fit for elite clubs/bars playing lounge music.A proof of amazing production...
The 5th Column
...An experimental track, supposedly produced for Enigma - Voyageur..Piano with electronic transitions...E1 materials can be heard again...You are into this feeling ''Hey, this is so familiar, but from where?'' This is the professional touches of Jens...He uses some old elements in a total new way...Very Successful..Bass Layers into...
Silent Heroes
...Choirs and Smell of Desire Part 2 begins...This time blending some elements from ''The Roundabout'' too.. And finally we hear
the typical Jens guitar solo....Another favourite track from the album..Relaxing yet powerful, familiar yet new...
It is clear that, this is an unreleased Enigma track from The Screen Behind The Mirror album...
Reachers of Civilization
...Classic violins...Yes this is what he really wanted to bring into the Enigma project...This track was added later to the context of the album..A Collaboration with the German producer Torsten Stenzel. This is not into the Enigma sound but interestingly very close to chill out tunes of ATB. Quite Electronic, still very calming....
Punta Del Este
...This is translated as ''End of The East'' supposedly produced for the album Voyageur...A more powerful version of ''The Piano'' This could easily be released as a future Enigma track....Electronic Piano notes are vividly lifting the song up..Not forgetting the trademark of Jens' guitars..
Farewell to the Moon
...Another Torsten Stenzel collaboration...This track is actually better than the other..Again reminiscent of ATB sound.Female vocal samples are looping from beginning to end...Also giving hints to my favorite forthcoming track on the album..I noticed these while writing this review. In the end, this is an average mid-track as the other...
Slowly Walking In
Okay Enigmatics...This is the track of the album...Massive beats blended with guitar solo..Oriental drums looping and distorted
human sounds....Breathing voices from left to right, right to left...Luisa whisperings and the slowed down Sadeness hi-hats, better than most Enigma songs...Better than anything on Enigma Voyageur...When I had the opportunity to listen to the complete album, that was the track I got obsessed to...This is truly an addiction to the wonderful music of Jens Gad.(I hope Cretu doesn't regret including this song on Enigma albums, because I really do feel that for him)...
Polar Lights
...Have you ever wondered what happened to our submarine on the album The Screen Behind The Mirror? This track is your answer.
Water droplets on L/R channels...Ticking clock and the underwater feel...This is Traces Part2. Our submarine goes deeper and deeper and meets dolphins underwater...And besides there's a hidden treasure near the ancient wreck...Pressure is increasing and can be felt with every sense...Dolhpins keep talking to us, probably leading us to the treasure?...
...Closing My Eyes
...and we are back to the beginning or is this just the end? Spanish intro is repeated again with a vanishing pattern,We are disappering here...
Extra Track listed as ''Life Sign'' :
It is obviously the same track as ''The Delta of The Red River'' with English vocals...This is probably the single version of the original track, appealing to the charts system or say
commercial music society..
Conclusion : This album is way better than Enigma Voyageur, even better than Le Roi Est Mort Vive Le Roi, in some aspects...Very close to the pure sound of Enigma Mcmxc a.D and The Cross of Changes...If you are still looking for a part 2 for Mcmxc a.D or The Cross... Go buy your copy now. You will not regret...
Excellent CD with an "Enigma" feel.......2006-04-12

Guitarist Oscar Lopez's second album is a delight, rife with energetic music that alternates between laid-back and frenetic. The more up-tempo material is eminently danceable; one could tango to "Rosa Rose." Strong percussion backs up Lopez's guitar on "Baila, Baila," "Cerca de Ti," "Mulata," and "Loco por Ti," which also features a piano part that handily explains why the piano is technically a percussion instrument. (As an added bonus, there's a second version of "Loco por Ti" with vocals.) This kind of music is hardly subtle, but Lopez is capable of that as well, as he shows with "Corrientes" and "Loving You," both of which exemplify the expressive power of the acoustic guitar. And then there's "Aires de Otros Mundos," which wouldn't sound out of place in a road movie that featured lonely mountains and arroyos as part of the landscape. --Genevieve WilliamsCustomer Reviews:
Senor Lopez' best album; give him a "B".......2007-07-17
I've spent money on this stuff and here is want I have learned. The heirarchy of this genre': (1) Jesse Cook, good variety, particularly his double album, (2) Lopez "Seduction", (3) Ottmar Liebert fun, but after a while it all sounds alike, (4) Armik, much flashy technique, but little soul or depth. Stick with the top two guys and you'll be OK. Keep searching.

Seminal mid-'80s electro-pop players (their hit "Close to the Edit" recently provided sample fodder for Prodigy's "Firestarter"), Trevor Horn, Paul Morley, Anne Dudley, and new addition Lol Creme (of 10cc), have regrouped as Art of Noise just in time to introduce classical-jungle fusion to the world. Using revered composer Debussy's melodic blueprint to build its elaborate, velvety drum & bass compositions, the group manages to make what initially seems like a dodgy idea sound somewhat viable, particularly on dreamy, atmospheric tracks like "Out of This World." Vocal contributions come from Sally Bradshaw, Donna Lewis, Rakim, and even actor John Hurt. --Aidin VaziriAlbum Description

Intellectually and sonically excellent.......2006-09-29
DO NOT MISS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS WORK. IT IS UNEQUALLED. Give this work some room to breath! Listen with a quality system.
To all you 'fans' of AoN that have panned this disc, you need to give this some more time in your list, straight thru, without ceasing nor shuffling. Close your eyes, and let the magic take you...and get a better sound system, from some of your comments I wonder if you are listening thru some cheapo mp3 player with cheaper earbuds! I have audiophile quality earbuds with dual drivers, cost me close to $1000, AND a Diamond Audio Hex system in my car. This work deserves a quality system, and I wish I could afford better to really hear this piece.
To anyone else that likes classical music a little, and techno music a little, this will open your mind to new possibilities of music recombining you never thought possible. Who would have thought one could combine rap and opera on the same disc? AND IT WORKS!
Some have pointed to an artist by the name of Malcolm McLaren, and claiming (shallowly in this writer's humble opinion) that AoN have ripped him off from an earlier effort. I do not know this artist nor do I own any of his music, but to compare this disc to what samples I have listened to on Amazon, I have this to say; Are you kidding me?!? You are comparing that pop tripe to this intellectual masterpiece by AoN? If you only listen to the surface of the music you buy, then I pity you, for you are missing the point, and it isn't a small one, either.
I am a drummer by long experience, and my rhythmic awareness is at the highest level, and the programming on this piece is unbeleivable! It strains my abilities to keep up so I can imagine some with less rhythmic awareness can find some of the drum and bass sections a bit fast and overwhelming. Give it time. You will hear, with some training and time, what gems this masterpiece has to offer you.
sound and perfume swirl in the evening air.......2006-05-16
The source of strength of this release is that it is an album, not a collection of weak Debussy remixes. No techno-ridden piano-and-string loops here. Instead we have luscious piano cascades and classical guitar and mighty string crescendos flowing beautifully over ambience, dub beats and jackhammer drillnbass alike. After all, it wouldn't be enough for Art of Noise to put new beats to old music. After declaring at the end of "Il Pleure" that Debussy "was the revolutionary that set 20th century music on its way," they could do nothing less than give us a full and rich sampling of the entire palette of 20th century music, from jazz to bubblegum pop to dub and drum and bass to hip hop. Anything less would be an insult their chosen subject and hero. For the most part, they succeed, although I personally found the rapper Rakim's surprising arrival in the middle of Track 6 to be a little jarring.
Most importantly, though, is that "Seduction" doesn't just work as an artistic concept, it works as music. It is a beautiful composition, with rich arrangements and terrific mixing, and covering an impressive degree of ground, never growing repetitive, always original and filled with aggressive experimentation and originality. I can't imagine whether Debussy himself would have liked or hated it, but what is probably certain is that he would not have been bored by it.
Nothing short of a fantastic album........2006-04-06
With John Hurt's warm narraration dotting various points of the music, the listener is eased through clouds of lush composition and back into reality through the beautiful, rainy painting of Il Pleure, escorted through wave after wave of operatic bliss, backgrounded with acid-orchestral beats in Dreaming in Color, and guided through the gardens of blossoming rhymes in the enchanting Evening Air. The the song that stands out the most, if a listener does not mind the interceding narraration, is The Holy Egoism of Genius. One is confronted with the various aspects of the artist's mind, and possibly given insight into the head of Debussy. The Holy Egoism of Genius, as with the rest of the album, is not an album that is to be listened to lightly or casually, despite the levity of the music itself.
In order to truly experience The Seduction of Claude Debussy, one must be isolated, so that every second of wonderful, orchestrated, and frequently blissful song can send chill after chill through one's spine. I have yet to find an album that is this consistent, beautiful, and to put it as simply as possible, great.
A Seminal Work of Musical Art and Culture for All Time.......2005-08-17
On another note, I do a lot of audio-visual work at different venues and I DJ and do some concert work as well. Whenever I set up my systems for a sound check, I put on "Il Pleure: At the Turn of the Century" and turn the system up...way up.
Whenever people who happen to be in the room or hall hear this, I get droves of people asking me the name of the song and who made it. And most of them, if they know me personally, will go and get the album and then contact me and thank me for pulling their coat about it.
There is one thing that I remember that I wrote in that review:
"While this album may not have been the best album of 1999, it is among the best of the 20th century and it is a fitting work to end the 20th century with, considering that its subject matter is based at it's beginning. All things move in cycles...."
