Very clever........2006-10-22

I first heard Yovee while checking out of a surf store while on vacation in Maui. They appear on the soundtrack of a movie called "Second Thoughts." I was so moved by the song "City Strollin" that I bought the DVD when I got home just to find out who they were. I was not dissapointed, I could not take it out of the CD player in my car, I dug it too much. It is a fresh sound, kinda clever.

Great CD!.......2006-07-18

I bought this CD because a friend of mine said it was great and he was right. John Wilkins has a warm and beautiful guitar sound and the interaction between the players is amazing. It is a great Jazz CD with good repertoire and extremely good musicians. I am sure anyone who buys it will listen to it over and over.

Wonderful Playing.......2001-12-11

I am enjoying this CD from John Wilkins very much for its great playing and communication between players. There is a really nice variety of tunes and feelings also. I hope he does more recordings soon.

I generally avoid debut albums by people I've never heard before, but fortunately I made an exception for this one. Guitarist John Wilkins' first CD effort as a leader is outstanding! With bassists Bronek Suchanek and Jerry Wilfong and drummer Kenny Hadley, Wilkins presents 55 minutes or so of fine standards like "Bluesette," "Softly as in a Morning Sunrise," "Wee Small Hours" and "Like Someone in Love," together with seven other tunes you may not have heard so often. It's a great album to provide soft sounds while you're reading, writing or engaged in other pursuits of a basically quiet nature. I'm glad I gave this one a listen. It's been in my "play stack" for several weeks now.

The sound of alone.......2005-02-07

Three years before his death, Chet Baker played this spare but rich and deeply touching set to a European festival crowd. The trio is Baker plus guitar and bass, with guitarist Philip Catherine matching Baker's own moving solo on the opening "Sad Walk." Baker opens up his vocal chops on the closing admission "But Not for Me." A shame this one's out of print at the time I write this.
