Every track on this CD contains a beautiful melody, many of them easily recognizable, all of them exuding tranquility. "O mio babbino caro" from Puccini's Gianni Schicchi opens the disc, with Bell delicately accompanied by a harp and spinning the long melody with great sensitivity. Bellini's "Casta diva" from Norma lives up to its reputation as the epitome of bel canto in Bell's hands; his violin sings. The middle movement of Mozart's 21st Piano Concerto takes well to the violin, and Debussy's "The Girl with the Flaxen Hair" is played with great warmth and sensuality. It would be easy to turn a recital like this into treacle, but Bell is wise enough to realize that the music is already sweet enough and he plays with great reserve and a minimum of sentimental slides. The light accompaniments always support, with woodwinds prominent but used with grace. This CD, in short, is a beauty: a fine gift, a lovely mood setter. --Robert LevineCustomer Reviews:

A friend's PC was able to read the CD and make a copy in standard format that can be read on any player, including my Mac. The story had a happy ending, but I can not comprehend why the publisher chose the oddball CD specification.
The music is excellent and worth the trouble of making a copy, but the publisher really shouldn't make you go to that effort just to listen to a CD that you paid for.

Key to the success of this prime-time teen soap opera has been a mix of contemporary rock and pop that musically embroiders the show's increasingly complex mix of hope, fear, and youthful angst with often melodramatic flair. This third volume of songs from the successful series continues in that tradition while, as the title suggests, exploring a little wider artistic range. "Don't Wait" by Dashboard Confessional and the Honorary Title's "Stay Away" immediately anchor the set with a familiar tone of urgency, while star Tyler Hilton offers up another expected sensitive acoustic ballad in "You'll Ask for Me." But elsewhere, the collection admirably pushes the envelope via such tasty, eclectic morsels as the infectious pop of the Kooks' "Naïve," Gym Class Heroes turning "Good Vibrations" into a stripped-down shuffle, and the effusive hip-hop-pop of Lupe Fiasco's "I Gotcha." But it's still a collection centered largely on the contemplative, indie spirit embodied by the Wreckers' gorgeous "Lay Me Down," Lucero's emotive dirge "Tell Me What It Takes," and the Constantines' similarly focused "Soon Enough." --Jerry McCulleyAlbum Description
For the first time in television history, a mixtape heard in an episode will become a soundtrack album. Containing hits from artists such as Lupe Fiasco, Dashboard Confessional and The Wreckers, The Road Trip is another innovative musical breakthrough for a series that continues to be an indie showcase.Customer Reviews:

Perfect for the Road.......2007-06-14
Hands down La Rocca's "Non-Believer," The Weepies "World Spins Madly On," and Band of Horses' "Funeral" are the best tracks on the album. Those songs alone are worth buying the cd for.
Awesomeness.......2007-06-10
That's what I like about the OTH soundtracks. They're not filled with "what's now" hot in the music scene, but rather songs that can be listened to over and over, because you're not going to always hear them on the radio.
the perfect follow up,hope there'll be a fourth..........2007-04-12
Don't wait : way to obvious choice but great though. The perfect song to start the CD with. 4,5/5
stay away : not the best from the band, but after listening to it several times you get used to it. 4/5
naive : good choice, siuts very well with the show itself, but not so good song. 3/5
the funeral : one of the highlight from the CD,great choice!....5/5
heartbeats : just the same as naive, but a good song. 3.5/5
you'll ask me : not his best by far and I must say that I get a little tired of him.
i gotcha : not the usual OTH tune but really great choice, second highlight. 5/5
good vibrations : way too much Citizen Cope vibes for me,but an OK song. 4/5
lay me down : third highlight, love the band and Michelle Branch. 5/5
soon enough : beautiful song but unnoticed, too bad. 3/5
he lays in the rein : fourth highlight, such a beautiful and lyrical song. 5/5
tell me what it takes : the same as soon enough, plus the song's not so good as for the band which is supposed to be one of Luca's favorite...2.5/5
just be simple : could have been a highlight but way too obvious and passe choice. 4.5/5
world spins madly on : love the band ad the song, fifth highlight. 5/5
non-believer : the perfect choice which was to be made.the sound from the great episode, song to live and die by,reminds me so much of Peyton. The sixth and last but not least highligh fom the CD. 5/5
chloe dancer/crowns of thorns : not my favorite at all but Jason Shwartzman made such a moving speech telling us why he chose the song that we have to at least like it. 3.5/5
If you love the show and the previous soundtrack just buy it,if not,buy it cause you'll find something you love on it.

DG has put together a fascinating compilation of Segovia's art that reminds us what a protean figure he was. Segovia single-handedly put the instrument on the map by making classical guitar concerts popular events, broadening the instrument's repertory through commissions and transcriptions, and convincing even doubters that it could be a vehicle for serious music. He's heard here in brief pieces recorded between 1952 and 1969. Even in those made when he was well into his 70s, his fingers remain nimble and interpretations lively. Listening straight through, one hears many all-time Segovia favorites as Turina's Sevillana and Albeniz's Asturias and Zambra Granadina and renews appreciation for path-breaking composers like Castelnuovo-Tedesco. He wrote extensively for Segovia and his Capriccio diabolico and Tonadilla are pieces of real substance. Disc two is largely made up transcriptions and it's amazing how well so many of them work on the guitar, at least under Segovia's magic fingers. Thus the transformations of Bach's violin music and even a Chopin Prelude sound idiomatic, and the gorgeous melodies of the Canzonetta from Mendelssohn's Op. 12 String Quartet are irresistible here. An entrancing set. --Dan DavisCustomer Reviews:
A Man and His Art - Magnificently Captured.......2007-04-06
There are a total of 31 pieces played on these CDs and while a playlist would be an unnecessary use of space here, a list of the composers represented is not. More than the specific pieces Segovia gives us here, the range of composers chosen by the compilers and editors - with each piece rearranged by Segovia himself, tells us a great deal about his interests, talents and musical range. These composers include:
Isaac Albeniz, Johann Sebastian Bach, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Frederic Chopin, Claude Debussy, John Dowland, Manuel de Falla, Cesar Franke, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Edvard Grieg, George Frederic Handel, Felix Mendelsohn, Frederico Moreno Torroba, Modest Mussorgsky, Nicolo Paganini, Felipe Pedrell, Manuel Ponce, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Joaquin Rodrigo, Albert Roussel, Domenico Scarlatti, Alexander Scriabin, Segovia's own composition of Estudio sin luz, Fernando Sor, Francisco Tarrega, Joaquin Turina and Heitor Villa-Lobos. A truly magnificent and broad ranging collection held together by Segovia's unique personal style, approach and sound.
Largely self-taught, Andres Segovia did things with a guitar that others only imagined. He didn't just play Bach, for example - music written for an entirely different type of instrument (keyboards.) He went a step further, and recorder Bach's keyboard lessons written for his students (the Two and Three Part Inventions) and made them sound as if they had been written for the guitar! His artistry is evident to even the casual listener and in this collection, any devote of classical guitar and/or of Segovia as an individual artist, will not be disappointed.
Perfect listening for anytime. Hypnotic and, simply, unsurpassed. A necessary addition to any serious classical guitar collection.
What can you say - it's Segovia!.......2007-02-10

On The Life and Times of S. Carter, Jay-Z's century-closing guaranteed-platinum album, he compares his hit-making prowess to that of Michael Jackson--the unspoken difference being that Jigga appears to be far from wearing out his commercial welcome. For good reason, too; not only is the Roc-A-Fella king maker one prolific rapper and writer, his output is of high enough quality to keep heads ringin'. While there's no single classic on the order of "Hard Knock Life" here, collaborations with Dr. Dre (the truly defiant "Watch Me"), Juvenile ("Snoopy Track"), and UGK ("Big Pimpin'") argue well for Jay-Z's continued vitality. Further proof may lie in the fact that, faced with mass bootlegging weeks before the CD's release, the Z-man added several tracks, effectively revising it at the last minute. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:

Close to being great..........2006-10-03
think this was one of the best rap albums released back when rap was actually good aka pre 2002.
There are a couple of club type songs, flow type songs, serious songs and etc. I actually liked his duo with DRE and think it was a pretty good rhyme although "Things That You Do" f/ Mariah falls flat pretty quickly. I dont know who the heck Amil is but she generally sounds good on the album and I think that having Big Pimpin plus 2 good, hidden tracks is icing on this cake. How could you not buy this album for $10 if you love raps glory days from the late 90s/early00?
Am I Hearing Something Different (2.5 stars).......2006-07-27
Anyway Jay-Z's fourth album Vol.3: Life And Times Of Shawn Carter is a semi-decent album at best. In 1999, Jay-Z was possibly enjoying the mainstream status of his career, to the point that he has been lacking on the microphone. He hasn't improved since Vol.2: Hard Knock Life. His rhymes seemed to be slapped together, as shown in the second track "So Ghetto" with rhymes like "Jigga man, Volume 3/I'm back looking like me/stop the presses/ladies drop your dresses." Some tracks just fall flat on the ground like the Mariah Carey assisted "Things That You Do", and and the weak hook on "S. Carter". Awkward moments are on this album like Dr. Dre appearing on the song "Watch Me" as Jigga doesn't shine lyrically on the track. "Come And Get Me" could have been shortened and condenced to three verses, since I've ever heard Jigga do a solo song lasting longer than 4 and a half minutes. Amil, Beanie Sigel, and Memphis Bleek colab with Jay for "Pop 4 Roc" and that fails causing me to loose my attention towards it.
Now there are some good songs on this album though. The first single "Do It Again (Put Ya Hands Up)" was probably a club banger back in late '99/early 2000 with the help of Beanie Sigel. "It's Hot (Some Like It Hot)" Jay turns to his lyrical side and it works somewhat on the better side on this track with rhymes like "I'm about a dollar, what the f*** is 50 Cents" (a response to 50's "How To Rob"). UGK hooks up with Jay on the hit single "Big Pimpin" that is one of the standout tracks (If you remember when it was on the radio/television, Jay had an extra verse, that is not on the album). Mostly the production on this CD saves it from being a failure. "Snoop Track" featuring Juvenile is one of those tracks that carries a good beat.
The bonus tracks "Jigga My N****" appeared on the Ruff Ryders first comp album and "Girls Best Friend" appeared on the Blue Streak Sndtrk. A couple of bonus songs that are better than the ones on the album.
As I said before Jay-Z is capable of doing much better. Many Jigga fans want to hear the same man that was on Reasonable Doubt, and this album is far from what that is. The production saves this from being a complete failure in my opinion. Luckly Jigga stepped his rhymes back up on future albums. If you want to hear more Jay-Z or you have never bought this album and are curious, I recommend this to you. Otherwise pick up other Jigga albums.

A Good Overview of Bob Dylan's Career.......2007-03-05
So Many Songs to Choose From, How Did They Ever Decide?.......2006-04-03
There is a song on Dylan's second Greatest Hits record "Tomorrow is a Long Time," which is just about one of the best songs I've every heard. It's from a concert that, if all of the performances were delivered this well, then I don't know why they didn't release the whole show. Also I agree that it would have been nice to have a whole record of Bob Dylan and Happy Traum together. It also would have been nice to have a whole record produced by Leon Russell, because as we see with the two songs he produced on this record, "Watching" the River Flow" and "When I Paint My Masterpiece" Mr. Russell knew how to get a good rocker out of Mr. Dylan. Still, even though we don't have the records it would have been nice to have, we have snippets here of what they could have been. Several different styles, all good, but then Bob Dylan is always reinventing himself, but to reinvent himself a couple times on the same record, amazing, simply amazing.
Dylan's third Greatest Hits record is a masterpiece in it's own right. In fact because of the many different styles Dylan uses, it kind of reminds my of a Beatles' record. You know, how the Beatles would switch the lead singer from song to song between John, Paul, George and Ringo. I think because of that Beatles' records never get old. This record is like that. Dylan's voice is so different from song to song, the bands are different. It seems like a record full of surprises, one I know I'll never get tired of and I don't think you'll ever tire of it either.
There is Just Simply No Song Man Better than Bob Dylan.......2006-04-03
Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits II" opens with the up tempo rocker "Watching the River Flow," then slows down some with the acoustic "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right," then jumps into a great Dylan countryesqe love song, "Lay, Lady Lay," then onto "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" from the "John Wesley Album." It is a testament to how strongly Bob Dylan presents his songs that he can take you from fast to slow, electric to acoustic and grab you instantly into each song. Dylan is a master, no doubt about it. Then again, all Mr. Dylan's songs are all good aren't they? And then there's the new stuff on here that wasn't really a greatest hit, though now that the record has been out for umpteen years, probably nobody knows that, but anyway, that stuff is a good too, no it's great.
"In a crowded room full of covered up mirrors, looking into the lost forgotten years for dignity." What a line, delivered the way only Dylan can deliver them. The years just roll on and he just keeps getting better. Like a shape changer he keeps changing, redefining himself, putting out new stuff, rereleasing his old stuff, putting out his live stuff and I am always amazed. When I first got "Greatest Hits III) (I bought it on cassette), I stuck it into the play in my car, because I couldn't wait to get home. "Tangled Up in Blue" came on and I immediately forgot that I was listening to a Greatest Hits record, was taking right back to the first time I'd heard "Blood on the Tracks" and I stayed right there till "Changing of the Guard" came on, not the song I was expecting, but I was immediately hooked right in. Then right onto "The Groom's Still Waiting at the Alter", a down right rocker with a heck of a Gospel flavor. Next comes "Hurricane" a song with a different band, different flavor and that is the genius of Bob Dylan. He can pull you in any direction he wants you to go and you follow.
This is Just Simply an Excellent Collection.......2006-04-03
"Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, Vol. 2" is a very interesting collection. The songs, though are all very good, just don't seem to flow as well (at least for me) as they do on "Greatest Hits, Volume 1." Sticking the acoustic, "Don't Think Twice" between the Rocking "Watching the River Flow" and "Lay, Lady Lay" just someone seems not right. I would have grouped the three early acoustic songs together along with the very excellent "Tomorrow is a Long Time" a live song that until this record came out, had been unreleased. It is such a good song and maybe should have been grouped with its brothers. All that being said, this is a very good collection with some outstanding songs you're just gonna love and even with my problem with the grouping, I still have to give this record five stars.
"Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, Vol. 3" starts out with the hard driving "Tangled Up in Blue," moves into "Changing of the Guards", the best song, in my opinion, from the underrated "Street Legal" album. "The Groom is Still Waiting at the Alter" was originally released as a single and later turned up in the "Biograph Box", and then the disc dives into "Hurricane" from "Desire." Like the first "Greatest Hits" LP, this CD stands on its own. All of the songs seem to work well together. There are no pre-electric songs, but this stuff is a long time away from that earlier period so, I guess, I shouldn't have been surprised when the CD came out, but I would have liked to see "Girl from the North Country" or maybe "To Ramona." I think, despite the fact that they were recorded earlier, that they would have fit right in with this five star collection. Still, it is a Greatest hits record and those songs were not hits. But then Dylan is famous for sticking stuff on these hits records that his audience has never heard before, like "Dignity" and "Series of Dreams" on this record.
