5 out of 5 stars Get this before it disappears forever.......2006-01-17

I've never written a review on here before, and this isn't much of one, but I found their CD growing up in Philadelphia too. it kept getting away from me somehow. The first time I lost it, but bought it easily enough again. The second time it was stolen with a lot of other CD's, and it was really hard for me to find it again. The third time, it got lost in a move, and it's been years now since I've had it.

I hope to be getting it in the mail soon from one of the retailers listed here from Amazon, and will not EVER let it go again. I'm burning it to computer, to iPod, and to a back-up disc which I'm shipping to my parents across the country. This band just, I don't know how they slipped away before anyone gave them what they deserved.

5 out of 5 stars Great band that didn't make it big.......2005-12-09

This album was the first and only by Wanderlust, a talented pop band that played Rickenbacker guitars and had great vocals. The songwriting is strong. I saw them live in Philly and they didn't disappoint. The lead singer came out with a song called Summertime which was the last song played in the movie, American Pie, as the credits roll. Very good song. This CD is a treasure, amazing that you can buy it for a penny on Amazon.

      5 out of 5 stars I finally found it!!!.......2005-12-03

I have been looking for this CD for 2 years now, but not really hard. It was stolen when my car was broken into, and I didn't really miss it until a few weeks ago. Since then, I have been on a MANHUNT - well, disc-hunt.

I have loved Wanderlust since "I Walked" hit the airwaves around the same time as the Screaming Trees "All I Know" - they were my 2 favorite songs for the summer of 1995. I only really heard it on one Philly station (WDRE??), but since it was the only station I listened to, I assumed that everyone else had heard, and loved, Wanderlust too.

I agree with my fellow Philadelphian Donna - there is no way Wanderlust should have been allowed to sell a mere 40000 copies of "Prize". I haven't even heard it in years, but I just found myself singing "Stage Name" at my desk. But ... what's done is done, and I, for one, will never let them get away from me again!!!

5 out of 5 stars Why Wanderlust was allowed to get away, I'll never understand.......2005-09-10

A friend in South Africa loved Wanderlust and told me how big they were over there. I was embarassed to admit that even though I loved their music, they couldn't get past the once-in-a-blue-moon radio play that chain radio execs so graciously allow as a diversion from their ever-boring playlist.

Because of the lack of exposure, no one has really ever heard of them ... except the folks who were willing to get away from corporate radio just long enough to listen to a great band putting out original music.

And even more embarassing is the fact that Wanderlust is from Philadelphia where they were big in local night clubs, but that's as far as they went.

Time can be so cruel because had Wanderlust come out today, they would surely be given at least *some* radio airplay, just enough to have people catch on to them. It really stinks that Wanderlust was allowed to fade away yet we are oversaturated with these glorified garage bands putting out CDs with material that's composed by studio musicians, covers of old songs (Oasis making their living from the legacy of The Beatles, to give one pathetic example), or material that's been done to death. The end product is that everyone sounds the same today.

      Not Wanderlust.

"Prize" is a great CD for just kicking back to. I love "Wanna Feel New," the mellow tunes of "Deepest Blue" and "Sundial," and the melody to "Far Behind" sums up the sound of the 90's beautifully.

Wanderlust being allowed to slip away unnoticed should be rated as one of the mortal sins of the record industry.

5 out of 5 stars These Guys Should Have Been Huge!.......2004-07-25

One of the fresh sounds that the 1990's produced. The material was radio friendly and they seemed to disappear in the abyss of relative unknowns. Give this one a listen!

As the title indicates, Mary Karlzen's fifth album finds her covering a lot of territory--in terms of theme, memory, and musical expanse. On both the opening "For One Moment" and the closing "Stay Forever," her vocal intimacy backed only by a solo piano makes her sound like a graduate of the Joni Mitchell school of '70s singer-songwriters. Yet the harder-rocking "Oh My" (on which Karlzen even threatens to smash her guitar), the somber cello that colors "Show Me," and the coming-of-age reverie "Sixteen" take her well beyond the folk circuit, while a couple of choice covers show an even wider range of influence. With pedal steel, the Mavericks' rhythm section, and vocal harmony from Garrison Starr, Karlzen takes the Replacements' "Skyway" on a trip south, while her duet with Matthew Ryan on "Heart of Saturday Night" transforms Tom Waits's ballad into a country tune. Karlzen shares liner notes from the road for each cut (though this is a studio album), with "Friends Along the Way" reinforcing the sense that the song cycle reflects the gains, losses, and lessons of the veteran troubadour's life. --Don McLeese

Great album. Heard it first from a friends private collection of promo discs (believe on the Warner Label.) One of the most consistently listenable Jazz Albums ever. MM Really strectched the instruments capabilities into whole new areas of mood and melody and rhythmic complexity. Great players in the cast many of whom were just coming up the NYC studio ladder and were just kicking it, trying to make their names in what was a golden area of studio playing in the Big Apple. Cant wait to get this on disc.

        5 out of 5 stars A treasure found........2006-11-26

It amazes me that I am the first to review this album. Perhaps all those who are familiar with it wrote theirs long ago. Well, this recording has a special place in my collection. A friend gave me a home recorded compilation cassette back in the mid '80s and there were a couple of songs on the tape that didn't have names. When I asked the person who taped it, he told me that he thought it was Mike Mainieri, but didn't know the album name. Seven years of trying to find this recording went by without success (remember, we didn't have Amazon in those days). One night, I was listening to the radio and heard "Crossed Wires". I called the station instantly and they told me it was from the CD "Wanderlust". I headed straight for the record shop and bought it (the only copy they had). That's how I got introduced to "Wanderlust". Now here's why I like it so much...the review.

Mike Mainieri is certainly up there with the greats like Milt Jackson, Lionel Hampton and Cal Tjader, to name a few. This album attests to that implicitly. The piano accented "Sara's Touch" moves your soul softly, the ethereal "L'Image" is reminiscent of the peacefulness of the early morning and "Pep's" is flat out sensuous. Bamboo is a bit brash with heavy overtones, but it's a killer piece. "Flying Colours" is heart a pumping tune and the sax adds, rather than detracts from this one. "Bullet Train" reminds me of Donald Fagen and Steely Dan's intricate music. As to "Wanderlust" and "Crossed Wires" there is no way I can pick a favorite, but these two are worth the price of the CD alone. The undefinable quality of these pieces (don't think for a second that the tiny sound clips you hear on this site give the the whole picture) cause me to stop, listen and be mesmerized. Yeah, the old "What CDs would you want with you on a deserted island?" is kind of kitch, but this CD would go with me...guaranteed.

In a cesspool of over distorted, no tone guitarbage, that bands are putting out these days, this CD is a breath of fresh air !!! It has the tone and distortion, Bill has become known for, but it's more. It's really, really good songwriting. I have had it in my CD player in my car now for almost a year, and play it at least once a week. It never gets old. With standout tracks like Honey, Wanderlust, and Don't give up, it's a rocker worth having !! Oh yea.... The last track "Not Dysfunctional" ya gotta listen to. !!!!

        Cheers.!!!

There is no way your CD collection is even close to complete without this disc. Bill's CD is beyond anything else he has ever done. If what you like is back to the roots, old school, rock and roll then this is what you have been looking for. Take a small helping of blues, a pinch of southern rock, and a heavy dose of ripping guitar, (not to mention the fantastic vocals) and you have Wanderlust.

5 out of 5 stars After one listen you'll be stuck in a "Wanderlust"..........2004-03-22

An incredible debut from one of the most under rated but influential rock guitarist in the biz today Bill Leverty. There is not one bad song on this disc as Bill truly shows his skills as a guitarist, song writer, vocalist, and producer. A must for everyone who likes good down to earth music written from the heart. Pick up Wanderlust today (you can thank me later)

the name of the disc says it all- WANDERLUST. i bought this disc when it came out. bought it for the front cover photo. the mystery in the photo. the color blue that was used for the cover. the place the woman is in, behind the man. the color of her hair, the length of her hair. all the mysteries, in just the simple photo. but it was all thought about, long and hard. so, it is not just a simple disc photo. then we come to the music. depending on my mindset and the traffic when i pop it in my player at the start of my hour long trip to work. this disc works so well when i am drinking my morn coffee, and it is before 7 in the a.m. i have a hard time playing it during my 6 p.m. drivetime.

        4 out of 5 stars impressive..........2001-10-15

This album caught me off guard. All of the songs are catchy and melodic. "Superficial", "Out of Sight", "White Flag", and "Quake" are the best of the bunch, but there really isn't a bad song on the entire album. The instrumental "Afterstorm" is a nice touch as well. I am looking foward to any new releases and wish the band future success.

        5 out of 5 stars a superb record.......1999-11-04

Okay, this record can only be described as melodic and inspiring. I'm not sure I agree that is Lush-like (it's much better and less contrived than that). Anyway, check this record out - it's my favourite of the year.

        5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!.......1999-10-06

I can't believe how marvellous this album is! I received my copy a few days ago and can't stop listen to it over and over again. There's a taste of Lush in it, mixed with Heavenly and Cast - "Wanderlust" clearly is my record of the year!

5 out of 5 stars Jump on the band-wagon now!!!.......1999-09-25

A wonderful addition for fans of the indie-pop scene. A great recording from an even better band live. You can get into this album with either a car load of people, or a moody night home with a loved one. A definite keeper.

4 out of 5 stars Fantastic offering from the singer of Econoline Crush........2007-04-29

There is only one reason this title got four stars: the price to track number ratio. For 7 tracks we pay over $16 (that's nearly $0.75 for each minute of music), and even if it is an import I am not pleased about this fact. It's being imported from Canada, not Japan, guys.

That being said this CD is amazing. I am disheartened that the US market completely failed to so much as acknowledge this EP's release. I only happened to stumble (haha) upon its existence here on Amazon, myself, in a "I wonder whatever happened to Econoline Crush" moment.

There isn't a weak song on the disc and I would argue the tracks, "Tin Cup," "Not Broken" (apparently already a single in the Canadian release two years ago) and "Clear Blue" would all have great hit potential if the artist name on the CD had been someone better recognizable in the US market.

If you're a fan of Trevor Hurst's voice, this is the disc for you. Gone is the electronic edge and raw energy of Econoline Crush, but each song is emotional and really shows Hurst's talent and range well. The only frustrating part was that he's only released this one 23 minute EP and nothing more. I want more, Trevor! Give us more!

So, if you really love Trevor Hurst's voice, horribly miss EC's presence in the music industry and crave more, I recommend this CD. You'll probably curse the price like I did, but you'll love the tunes.

5 out of 5 stars Econoline Crush no more..........2005-07-28

I just recently discovered that Econoline Crush's days are officially over, but I found lead singer Trevor Hurst has not disappeared from the music scene.
Having bought this CD along with an older Econoline Crush CD, Affliction, I noticed just how much cleaner of a sound Hurst has than Econoline (not that I didn't love Econoline's sound). This album feels like the natural evolution from Brand New History: getting back to basics, no synthesizers, but good old fashioned rock.
Trevor's voice is still amazing and easily made me forget my sadness over Econoline Crush's break-up. Though only seven tracks long, this album is well worth listening to.

5 out of 5 stars Hurst Returns To Form.......2005-07-07

Any self-respecting Canadian rock fan will remember Trevor Hurst's vocal stylings from industrial band Econoline Crush, who somehow just disappeared off the scene some 4 years ago. Well, Hurst is back, and it looks as if he is here to stay.

The release of new EP Wanderlust is the fruit of a two year hard slog for Trevor and band, which includes ex Collective Soul guitarist Ross Childress (who co-wrote and co-produced the songs with Hurst) and on drums, Nik Pesut, formerly of Holly McNarland. John Wozinak (Marcy Playground) co-produced the EP at Vancouver's Mushroom Studios.

The new sound of HURST (the band) is miles apart from Econoline's trademark computerised edge. Not a synthesiser to be heard...and in my opinion the change works wonders for showcasing Trevor's vocal ability.

Wanderlust comes loaded with seven potential hit singles. Not Broken (the current single), Tin Cup and Clear Blue should all become big really soon. Don't say you weren't warned...I highly recommend you buy Wanderlust today!
