Already a box office sensation with a million-selling soundtrack in its native France, writer/director Christopher Barratier's tale of a post-war music teacher's lasting impact on his young charges rode its formulaic Hollywood roots all the way to Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations as Best Foreign Language Film, as well as an Oscar nod for Best Song ("Look To Your Path [Vois Sur Ton Chemin]," a collaboration between the director and film composer Bruno Coulais). Taking his inspiration from the boy's chorus at the center of the film's drama, Coulais has concocted a masterful, classically rooted score that showcases the crystalline, youthful harmonies of Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc Choir. The composer bridges the baroque and modern eras in a collection of mostly Latin choruses and chants, a skillful, often haunting fusion that also netted Coulais' compelling score BAFTA and Cesar Awards in Britain and his native France, respectively. -- Jerry McCulley
Album Description
The Chorus (Les Choristes), written and directed by Christophe Barratier, is already a French cinema phenomenon. The modestly budgeted film about a music teacher in a post-war France who wins over the troubled students at a boarding school arrived in French theatres last summer with little advance hype. Defying industry expectations, this affecting tale proceeded to break box-office records. The soundtrack to The Chorus (Les Choristes) features performers by the Lyon-based Petits Chanteurs de Saint Marc and several haunting solo turns by 13 year-old boy soprano Jean-Baptiste Maunier, who also portrays the youthful protagonist of the film.

Amazing children's voices.......2007-05-14
This CD has been in the player in my kitchen ever since it arrived and has been played many times, and no one in the family is tired of it. The children's voices are wonderful, the pieces are beautiful, the harmonies haunting. A longtime favourite for sure.
Great Music.......2007-05-11
The CD is so enjoyable. The music is beautiful. I can not say enough good about it. The orchestra and choir are outstanding. The move is also wonderful, French with subtitles. I heard the CD when I was visiting a friend in Germany. I ordered the CD and movie as soon as I arrived back in the States. Such beautiful melodies and performance quality of the highest standard.
THE CHORUS CD.......2007-05-07
Excellent CD! Good sound reproduction and excellent music. Makes you feel like you are watching the movie again! Angelic young voices singing beautiful French choral pieces. Beautiful and relaxing.
Great music, but missing some songs from the movie.......2007-02-25
I rented this movie last year, and really enjoyed it. However, when I bought the CD, I discovered it was missing my favorite song from the movie. However, the songs on the album are absolutely beautiful.
a wonder.......2007-01-19
this collection of music is one of the finest things which i have ever listened to. the movie is equally beautifull.

Customer Reviews:
Deuter Tibetan Singing Bowls.......2007-01-03
I enjoyed this album as a great followup to Deuter's earlier singing Tibetan bowls work. I always enjoy his music and have most of his albums over the past 20+ years. This album continues the high quality of spiritually uplifting music that has come to define Deuter.
Good Vibrations.......2006-07-11
I have a stack of book reviews to write, but I just had to sneak in this little blurb before getting to the ceiling-high pile of books squatting accusingly on my desk: Deuter's "Tibet Nada Himalaya 2" CD on the New Earth label is pure pleasure on the ear drums. The rich thrum of the Tibetan bells and crystal bowls in each of the compositions fills the solar plexus with waves of relaxation, and triggers the production of endorphins. Highly recommended. (Jung's "Man and His Symbols" covers a section on the correlation between the sounds of bells, gongs, bowls, etc., and the resultant formation of mandala-like patterns of energy.)
If you live in a noisy place, or get knotted up with tension because of the insanity of this world, try listening to this CD.
My Favorite Meditation CD.......2006-01-13
I have dozens of yoga and meditation CDs and this has quickly risen to the top as my favorite. It calms and focuses the mind effortlessly and also creates a harmonious environment even when you're not meditating. All the sounds come from natural sources, mostly Tibetan bells and crystal singing bowls, not a one-dimensional droning synthesizer found on many meditation CDs. Now I understand why the Tibetans have been using these sounds for hundreds of years in their practices. Highly recommended!

Himalaya.......2007-03-17
Beautiful movie and beautiful sound track. For all those who love Tibet you are going to enjoy!
Enchanting.......2007-03-03
This is chant music you can meditate to, without keeling over in boredom. Himalaya is RICH--with a range of male and female voices singing/chanting in the Tibetan language--and fluidly blended against a background of traditional instruments plus a western orchestra. One of the female vocalists is particularly amazing. The second half of the CD does plod a bit (hence, 4, not 5 stars). The overall result is a very enthralling, lullaby-type of melody.
Buddhist-inspired music, without the tedious repetition. Meditate to it. Do yoga. Relax and imagine yourself lost in the Himalayas. This music will put you in the mood.
himalaya soundtrack.......2007-01-14
This is a beautiful, magical work, and has been one of my favorite cd's for a long time. The key is the composer's wonderful skill in combining western music with traditional Tibetan music and vocals, [the latter often being an acquired taste], to achieve a near perfect outcome. Highly recomended
Sacred Himalaya !.......2005-08-27
This Soundtrack is the best one that I have ever heard.
The movie is unique.
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!
Out of this world.......2005-06-11
For those of us who have been fortunate enough to have a glimpse of the mystery and majesty, that surrounds some of the hidden Himalayan kingdoms, this music will sound most familiar. Photographer and director of the film Himalaya, Eric Valli, has dedicated many years in capturing the essence of the people of Dolpo, Nepal. For years this tiny kingdom has been isolated from the rest of the world because of it's geographical location. The threat that the unique nomadic existence of these noble people will disappear, is very much a reality, hence the urge to portray the struggle and beauty of Dolpo on film. More than a movie, this is a living testimony of a culture interconnected to all of us.
Bruno Coulais has captured the heart, spirit and mystery of the remarkable people of Dolpo. The soundtrack is evocative and without images transports us to the magical world somewhere between heaven and earth. From the intricacies of Buddhist faith to the grandeur of the highest mountains on earth, the music on this soundtrack has it all.

Deuter's masterful meditation music echoes the pristine essence of a Himalayan retreat by integrating Tibetan bells and bowls, chimes, and the natural sounds of a mountain stream. Expanding reverberations and overtones meld in perfect harmony.
Reviews "...Deuter has been gifted with an exquisite number of superb percussion pieces from Nepal, Tibet, Japan, and India. Sounding them with both tenderness and feeling, he manifests a timeless space in which endlessly expanding reverberations and overtones meld in perfect harmony." --New Age Retailer Magazine
"The sound of the mild connection with the bowls echoes and drifts to the point of entering the realm of silence. Nada's subtitle, 'Music for Meditation,' reveals ambient music at its very core..." --New Age Voice

Want to really relax?...then give this gem a try!.......2005-12-02
The effect of sound on the mind and body has been confirmed not only by human experience across the centuries, but in modern times has also been scientifically documented as well.
"Nada Himalaya" contains the AMAZINGLY CALMING sounds of beautifully harmonized, genuine (not electronically-generated) Tibetan bells and chimes on track 1 (30 minutes) and track 2 (15 minutes) - with the tranquil background of a mountain stream added on the third and final track (3 minutes).
After listening to the sound samples below, I decided to give it a try - and must say it's the most relaxing CD conducive to deep meditation I've ever heard, so much so that I've ordered Deuter's sequel CD called "Tibet: Nada Himalaya Vol. 2" hoping it'll be as good as this one is!
Excellent for relaxation and healing.......2004-06-08
This CD is amazing - I have lent it to many people and all have reported that it has helped them by relieving them of physical pain during listening. I have used it for getting rid of headaches, and I can actually feel energy moving through my body. It's like a reiki session done through music. Highly recommended.
Great stuff.......2003-01-07
I discovered Deuter about 10 years ago. I just got the CD and didn't read what it was beyond Deuter's name, so I was really surprised when it was just bells. At first I was disappointed cuz I was expecting something more like Nirvana Road or something. Nope. Just bells. But, I listened to it when I got home and turned it on while I went to sleep. Yeah, now I love going to sleep to it! I only give it 4 stars cuz I was expecting Deuter's keyboard style etc. of music. If I was looking for this style, I'd give it 5 stars.
Good vibs from these sounds!.......2001-12-24
This is my all time favorite CD to use in meditation. The sounds are soothing and ideal for calming the mind. At the end there is rushing water with tibetan bowls/bells and chimes---It's totally refreshing.
Pure Tibetian Bells..........2001-06-30
I have searched for so long for a cd that would be pure tibetian bells - this is it! The moment it starts it creates a type of serenity that is just impossible to describe. The cd is ALL bells - and Deuter has masterfully recorded, with great sensitivity, these gifts of Spirit. After a long, stressful day - nothing is more relaxing than to sit down and become lost in the sounds of Nada Himalaya. My cat loves it - it doesn't matter where she is in the house, she comes to share the magic of the bells.

Fantastic and extremely evocative..........2005-01-23
This is a really beautiful album. The music sounds slightly similar to Hindustani music but has many, many differences. Some may find the drone in the background of most of the tracks strange if not used to it, but it really adds to the beauty of the music. Listen to this in the morning for full impact and a fantastic feeling of joy!

Customer Reviews:
Incredible Neoclassical Shredfest.......2006-12-11
Michael Romeo, the insanely talented guitarist for the excellent modern neoclassical metal band Symphony X, displays more of his unbelievable instrumental prowess on this jaw-dropping album. What I like the most about Romeo is the fact that he injects a progressive and unusual sensibility to a genre that really was at it's pinnacle twenty years ago with Yngwie Malmsteen's "Marching Out". Michael's spin on what is often now referred to as "neoclassical shred" is both more modern and even heavier, and imbued with his clever and unpredictable playing and style which often draws from both sides of the fence, equal parts Dream Theater and Dragonforce. And his skills? I doubt I could be this good if I practiced ten hours a day. An incredible and dynamic instrumental disc. Hard to find, but recommended for any guitar fan. This has whet my appetite for the new Symphony X release, "Paradise Lost", which should be a juggernaut in the genre.
Wow.......2005-10-10
If only I could play guitar I would play these songs all day long. Great album throughout.
great solo album from the symphony x guitarist.......2004-03-29

pleased with this CD. A good value too! As my friends can verify, I am a cheap SOB, so I tell you "Great stuff for the bucks!" Thanks!

I love this CD!.......2004-12-08
I love this CD. The things that this guy can do with an acoustic guitar (or any guitar for that matter) are amazing. He is a truly talented musician and has covered a lot of ground in his career.
If you are only familiar with him from his Racer X or Mr. Big days, his solo stuff is a little different but in a good way. He is a serious musician, but not a serious person (go check out his website, it's hilarious). Almost all of his solo songs are light-hearted or fun in some way. Bob Dylan he is not, but he is a great songwriter in his own style. You can just tell that he is having the time of his life while playing them.
The best description I could give would be melodic pop guitar hard rock.
