5 out of 5 stars This was my FIRST !.......2007-04-23

I was perhaps 13 years old when I bought this album--Brubeck my intro to jazz. His jazz impressions of New York became mine, and when I visited NYC several times in my youth, I saw it through his music.

In the last four years I have been fortunate to see him in concert twice: NYC, Carnegie Hall just to see him. As a 'grownup' my first impressions of his music walked with me every step of the way. ...and today! He, the quartet played in my small town to cap off our town's college Bach Festival.

Such an intimate venue, a performance that surpassed the one at Carnegie Hall by leaps and bounds. Mr. Brubeck is now slow to walk, slow to speak, however, his fingers know no age...have no sense of time other than that in music. His fingers glide over the keyboard without effort and the most beautiful sounds DO play!

He is a man of insurpassable talent, incredible wit and kindness. I met him today! As I stood in line, waiting, pinching myself, telling myself to not bumble and fumble, I thought this is the man who introduced me to the world of jazz, a world that just keeps growing.

You'll not get a bad review from me on any of his music. He is a integral part of what I love in life! Nothing but a fan here and with the utmost respect for his lengthy, varied contribution to music.

So giddy with delight on this day...this day that just got better and better...still pinching! :))))) !!!

5 out of 5 stars Nothing not to like about this one..........2006-12-06

I'm a jazz fan, but no expert. I'm a music fan, but no musician. I am a New York City fan, but since these 11 original songs were composed for a television series in the 1960's which did not last long, and none have lyrics, I can't say that any of the tunes remind me of any specific NYC sights. All I can say is that it is one of the best of the 10 or 12 Brubeck CD's in my collection. This is Brubeck's classic quartet at the height of its powers, and for 44 minutes I was delighted by all the players. Dave's career has gone on now for about 60 years, and while the classic quartet is extinct, Brubeck is still producing good recordings. But this one is nearly equal to "Time Out" and "Time Further Out" and "The Great Concerts". If you like Brubeck, or jazz piano in general, or Paul Desmond's sax playing, don't miss this one. It is a "below the radar" gem.

4 out of 5 stars Not Bad!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-03-27

After analyzing and listening to this album, I've come to the conclusion that it's not that bad. The album starts off with the killer track, Theme from Mr Broadway, (In my oppinion the best song ever recorded. even better than take five) than floats into an easy bossa nova, in which Joe Morello plays a very complicated brush pattern, even me, a professional drummer who memorized the drum solo on take five couldn't even figure out. There are definitlely some clinkers in this album, or else I would have given it five stars. By the end of the album, the piano sound of Brubecks block chords start grading on your nerves, but it's all good! The last song, Upstage Rhumba is alittle misleading because it is not very fast or up beat at all, with no melody, but a constant drum beat, and claves by Teo Marceo, but overall the song and the album in its entirety aren't that bad.

5 out of 5 stars Mr. Brubeck's Tribute to New York.......2003-10-01

This has to be one of the highpoints of the Brubeck Quartet's career. It sounds as fresh today, as it did forty years ago. This is a musical love letter to a great city. Of course, Dave's playing really shines, but Paul Desmond has many fine moments as well.

I don't see the point in singling out any particular track, since this disc should be savoured in its entirety. Over the years, the City of New York has inspired so many artists--here is yet another fine example--and a triumph for Dave and his quartet !

Highly recommended !

5 out of 5 stars Brubeck at his BEST.......2001-12-14

I first heard this album in college in 1966. I instantly fell in love with the quartet and their music. Of course, I went out and bought the platter. And while I've heard much of Dave's music since, this recording is still my favorite. I've been humming the songs from Jazz Impressions of New York for 35 years, and I've never grown tired of them. Dave's piano is understated, allowing Paul's sax to really shine, while the bass and drums fill out the sound exquisitely. The music is crisp, and after 37 years, it's still current. It really captures the many moods and faces of New York. I plan to hold onto this album and remember the New York that was, and still is. By the way, after thinking about it for a long time, I broke down and bought the CD last month. It's great. But I still have the vinyl version.

Among the early '60s wave of American jazzmen entranced by Brazilian music, none proved more ebullient than pianist Vince Guaraldi, whose homage to a 1959 film retelling the Orpheus myth as an underclass Rio de Janeiro romance proved a sleeper hit. With Guaraldi's fleet, always rhythmic piano driving these concise trio settings, Black Orpheus remains a seductive delight, probing the then-exotic push and pull of samba with glee, but leaving ample room for more contemplative ballads that remain deeply affecting more than three decades after the album's release. Luis Bonfa's and Antonio Carlos Jobim's music was the seed for the project, yielding a percolating "Samba de Orpheus" and the haunting ballad, "Manha de Carnaval," but the album's best-known performance remains Guaraldi's own wistful and swinging "Cast Your Fate to the Wind." A surprise single hit in 1965, the song would later receive a more expansive pop cover, but it's Guaraldi's original that remains the superior performance--a wordless romantic reverie that speaks volumes in Guaraldi's tender verses, muscular choruses, and romping bridge. --Sam Sutherland

5 out of 5 stars Hold the Peanuts.......2007-04-18

Vince Guaraldi cranks out music like few others. What makes him special? Aside from his trademark "crushed tone thirds," he delivers at multiple levels. I can be swept away by the joy, bouncing with the beat, or running to my piano room to practice when I hear this CD. There are no lulls. Guaraldi's playing, masterful as it is, is all about the listener's experience, not about the player's chops. If you've enjoyed hearing him you-know-where, but want to experience him without thinking of you-know-what, he brings the same kind of positive energy to this CD as he did to the characters of you-know-who.

This item is absolutely wonderful. Wonderful interpretation of the Black Orpheus theme. I miss Vince Guaraldi since his early death. What a loss. But we have him on these old wonderful albums so we are blessed to be able to hear his fantastic talent. Try his Charlie Brown album & at Grace Cathedral. Two classics that I would also recommend.

5 out of 5 stars A Classic Album.......2005-12-25

"Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus" was the breakthrough album for Vince Guaraldi. It's a classic jazz trio playing in the then-popular bossa nova style. Mr. Guaraldi is a master of the piano, playing in a laid back, flowing style that is a joy to hear. People are most familiar with the mega-hit "Cast Your Fate To The Wind" but the other cuts are just as good and will haunt you for days after hearing them. All-in-all, a classic jazz album that belongs in every afficianado's collection.

5 out of 5 stars Great Jazz.......2007-04-28

I was 13 when Jazz Impressions of Eurasia was released. I'd literally saved my pennies to buy my first album. My brother selected this great album for me -- or, more probably, for himself using my money. I'm now 61 and have not stopped listening to this wonderful music. The CD is faithful to the original. In some ways it's better. You'll find an error Brubeck makes -- edited out in the LP -- nicely restored on the CD. Simply the best.

5 out of 5 stars this record is perfection..........2003-11-01

small and beautifully formed. Every track on this record is a note-perfect. For the first few years of listening you might prefer the driving rhythm of Nomad, or the bluesy feel of Calcutta Blues, but then you'll slowly find that the haunting melody of Thank You is just as enjoyable. Every track play a part in making this my favourite record.

I've been listening to this recording for 35 years (since I was 5) and I still love every moment of it.

Without doubt the best out of the 20 or so Brubeck records I have.

5 out of 5 stars My First Jazz Album.......2003-03-20

I bought this album (LP of course) in 1959 when it first came out. I was a 19-year-old serving in the U.S. Air Force and my barracks-mates got/had to listen to this hour after hour. I wore the first copy out and was half way through the second copy when I was transferred to a station overseas and had to leave my record collection. When they released the CD version, a few years ago, I ordered a copy right away. It's still my favorite album. In a word, it's magnificent!

5 out of 5 stars Has to be one of Dave's best original albums...has to be!.......2002-07-19

If Brubeck made any whole albums back in his heyday that hold up better than this one, I haven't heard them. I have owned this one for a few years now, and liking has turned to loving it. Everything is a Quartet original composition, recorded after they returned from a long tour of England and the Middle East and even, can you believe it here in 2002, Afghanistan. All four musicians get good solo time on this CD, but drummer Joe Morello really shines. This came out on record just before his smash hit "Take Five" and it complements the latter collection excellently. If you are interested in Dave Brubeck, don't skip this one. It is under 40 minutes, and many people are reluctant to buy CD's that don't come closer to using up the whole 70-plus minutes available. I used to be that way too, until I found I owned too many 60-minute CD's with 20 minutes of tedium in them. Just buy this darn great jazz album, and play it twice every time instead of once, and you'll be hearing 80 minutes of fascinating stuff!

5 out of 5 stars Best of Brubecks Compositions.......2001-10-01

I have a hard time not liking everything DBQ ever did. But this album stands out.

DBQ was at home doing both standards and Dave's orginal and often unusual compositions. This album is all original material, and what's particualryl wonderful is that every song is so different. From the Bach-like structure of "Brandenberg Gate," to the wailing, wild, and way out (and totally un-Desmond-like)part-boogie-woogie, part-avante-garde "Golden Horn", and back to the Chopin-inspired "Thank You," every tune on this album tells a story.

It took a while for this one to grow on me, because of its variety and strangeness. I couldn't live with ut it now.

5 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece !! - The best Nocturnes in 150 years!.......2005-11-13

This collection is a masterpiece on it's own!
What we listen is Loussier impressions on Chopin's nocturnes, not the nocturnes themselves. Great! It's just the thing LISZT would like to compose, since he loved to discuss at the piano through paraphrases on other composers. Some of them are so amazing that we could easily consider them a new masterpiece since Chopin.

This is really what I call creativity. By listening to these miniatures, we finally understand what creativity means. I ofter have some points against some of the pieces Loussier plays with Trio, but after listen carefully to these pieces , I have to say this man has moments of geniality.

One of the most interesting to my taste if what he did with Chopin's nocturne Op 55 # 2. Incredible. I cannot guess what Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, or even Herbie Hancock could made it better. Amazing!

Buy it! You don't know what you're missing!
And, please, Mr. Loussier, do record more Solo Piano. By listening to the Nocturnes, I'd like to hear the Waltzes, Scherzos, Impromptus, Polonaises, etc...you have discovered a brand new world!

Being familiar with Loussier group handling of classics, I looked forward to his Chopin interpretations. But he really needs a rhythm group behind him to put it across. His pure solo work just doesn't make with me.

5 out of 5 stars Monumental Live Recording from '63.......2006-03-13

1963 was an important year for the John Coltrane quartet. It was a year of transition for the group, because it bridged the gap between his older "sheets of sound" recordings like GIANT STEPS and SOULTRANE and his avant-garde recordings in the years to follow. Just several months later, Coltrane would release the lovely CRESCENT album as well as the landmark, A LOVE SUPREME, where Coltrane takes his music to a new level. In the summer of '63 Coltrane performed at the Newport Jazz Festival with his regular quartet, except with Roy Haynes on drums, as opposed to Elvin Jones. Jones was spending a few months in jail at the time for some type of drug offense, but by the time their European tour came around in the fall, Jones was back in the band with the other two regulars - McCoy Tyner (piano) and Jimmy Garrison (bass).

I must echo other reviewers in stating that AFRO BLUE IMPRESSIONS is essential for your Coltrane collection, even though it is often overlooked by critics. This 2-cd set was not released until 1977 (ten years after Coltrane's death), but the music is familiar, as it is a collection of works from GIANT STEPS, IMPRESSIONS, LIVE AT BIRDLAND, and a couple other important recordings. Even though these tracks are a re-hash of early-60's Trane, you will find that he takes an abstract turn in his solos. Therefore, apart from the main themes, the music was actually somewhat revolutionary for that time.

The first disc opens with a track from the soon-to-be-released CRESCENT LP, 'Lonnie's Lament'. This 10-minute epic explores the softer side of Coltrane while still covering an extended portion of music with free jazz elements to it. This same style can be mirrored in the equally somber 'Naima' from GIANT STEPS. Following these softer tracks is the high-energy 'Chasin' the Trane'. Coltrane follows earlier practices by leaving the piano out of this track. Other recordings of it, such as on LIVE AT THE VILLAGE VANGUARD featured none other than the prolific Eric Dolphy. I often look to this song as a method of explaining Trane's growth as an artist because of its striking similarities to Ornette Coleman's late 50's work, which also featured a piano-less quartet. The absence of piano allows the soloist more freedom in the phrasing of notes. Closing up the first disc is one of my favorite recordings of 'My Favorite Things'. Clocking in at a solid 21 minutes, the quartet really stretches out here to an eventual breaking point where Jones and Trane are left to play against one another. Some listeners may complain that the sound quality begins to fade at this point, but I don't let it bother me too much, as the quality of the performance more than makes up for it.

The second disc opens with Mongo Santamaria's 'Afro Blue,' which I find to be one of my favorite Coltrane pieces. In some ways, this specific performance pales in comparison to its lively counterpart on LIVE AT BIRDLAND, but in other ways, specifically Coltrane's extended solo, it adds new life to the piece. Following 'Afro Blue' is 'Cousin Mary' from the GIANT STEPS album. This is a hard-swinging modal piece that fits in quite nicely on this record, although it would soon represent an element of the past in the context of Coltrane's late-60's peformances. AFRO BLUE IMPRESSIONS also has a wonderful recording of Billy Eckstine's 'I Want to Talk About You' with its trademark 'extended credenza' which spans a solid six minutes this time around.

Finishing up the second disc are probably the two most avant-garde pieces, both coming from the IMPRESSIONS LP, 'Spiritual' and 'Impressions'. I prefer 'Spiritual' with Eric Dolphy on it, and you may want to consider picking up LIVE AT THE VILLAGE VANGUARD for an awesome listening experience. The bass clarinet intro on that recording will make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. Do not allow this to taint the AFRO BLUE IMPRESSIONS version, though. Coltrane is absolutely wonderful on this piece, and the break between the intro and the main theme in 3/4 time is outstanding.

I urge all Coltrane fans to pick up this worthy 2-disc live set. At times, the sound quality could be better, but you're not going to find another performance like this anywhere. The choice of tracks will be famliar, and the musicianship, especially that of Coltrane, is a solid encapsulation of his musical versatility.

4 out of 5 stars Near Classic.......2006-03-04

I agree with all the other reviews except I think they do not address the sound quality. Listen, this a superb collection of a classic band at the peak of their powers. If you are a Coltrane fan, then you dont need my approval, and yes, yes, get this album. The performances are amazing. If you are a budding Coltrane fan, definitely try the other calssic live albums first, such as "Live at the Village Vanguard" or "Live at Birdland". The sound quality and packaging are much better. Having said that, eventually you will become a convert and buy this album down the road anyway...

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2005-03-11

I would like to comment on two of the tracks on this CD.

I have listened so far to four versions of My Favorite Things (five if you count the Berlin performance on the DVD "The World of John Coltrane"). The performance of MFT on this disk is startlingly different from the Newport 63 version, as well as the Birdland version recorded in 1962 (see "Live Trane"). There, the emphasis is on building up to a screeching solo. While I consider the Birdland version to be the best, this version is also very interesting. Rather than build up to a screeching climax, Coltrane displays a more even and thoughtful approach. He plays around with short phrases, repeating them and varying them over and over. The effect of this is quite hypnotic. But just before the end, he does eventually begin screeching again, for a typically loud and powerful finale.

The version of Afro-Blue on this album is also rather differnt (and I think better) than the one on "Live at Birdland". The playing is more soulful and inspired. Towards the end, on the Birdland version, Coltrane makes his saxophone make sobbing sounds by playing long tremolos. On the Pablo disc, however, he plays the mounrful final passages very simply indeed, as long notes almost devoid of ornamentation. After the frenetic soloing of the first portion, these long notes are of an unearthly beauty, and I think it is a better ending than the sobbing on the Birdland solo.

One further point: I don't know if this is just my copy, but there is a remarkably loud sound of singing on the version if "Impressions" here. Sounds like someone close to the tape machine was singing. It is very off-putting - I can't imagine Norman Granz himself was singing; that would be very unprofessional!

Overall, "Afro-Blue Impressions" is a very good recording of Coltrane live on stage. I balked at the price at first, but now I think it is worth the extra money (it consists of two discs).

5 out of 5 stars Ultimate Naima.......2004-11-23

The performances on this album and yes even the sound capture a feeling and soundstage that is nothing less then breathtaking. Not that the recording dynamics are the best recording, but there is something quite extraordinary with all of these performances that rates #1. Afro Blue, Spiritual, Chasin The Trane, Cousin Mary, Lonny's Lament are great. I want to talk about you is a must have. AND to my ears, and I've heard most of them, early and late...This NAIMA is of the highest order of HEART WRENCHING excursions that Trane Or perhaps anyone else has ever recorded. You will hear a truely connected artist expressing the highest order of love, pain and joy wrapped in a musical envelope. It is true gold and a must have, if only for this track. Buy It!

5 out of 5 stars Indispensible Trane.......2004-10-12

John Coltrane is one of my favorite musicians. I would give almost everything he recorded five stars. "Afro Blue Impressions" is the recording that really turned me on to Trane in the first place, and is the one that I've listened to the most over the years. Every tune is outstanding, but I particularly love "My Favorite Things." This version is completely different from the studio recording, at a much faster tempo, and extending over 20 minutes. McCoy's solo is one of his best, and Trane's playing is phenomenal. At times he sounds like two saxophonists engaged in a duet. This is the John Coltrane Quartet at their finest, which means it's some of the greatest art ever produced in any medium. I agree with some of the other reviewers who have criticized the sound quality on these two discs, but the music more than makes up for it. Any Coltrane collection is incomplete without "Afro Blue Impressions."

5 out of 5 stars Sugoi.......2007-04-21

Unmentioned in previous reviews is the fact that Japan itself was going through a transition in the sixties and that reality permeates the music thoroughly. You can almost feel the economic progress on faster tracks such as the dizzying Tokyo Traffic and Toki's Theme, a catchy tune written to a busy secretary. Overall, you've got more than just a couple things going on thematically; 'Impressions...' is both culturally and musically interwoven, jostling between an ancient medieval society and the economic juggernaut it has become.

Make no mistake: this is a complex record, but one that succeeds.

5 out of 5 stars Brubeck rules.......2006-11-11

Having listened to Dave Brubeck since the late 1960's (from my father), I had not remembered listening to this album before. What an awesome recording. I love all his Jazz Impressions albums, and this is no exception. The melodies and rythmic time siganture will not leave you wanting more. Highly recommend!!

4 out of 5 stars Highly underrated........2005-05-11

I was recently fortunate enough to stumble upon this album and was curious enough to listen to it. It is a surprisingly interesting, melodically memorable album, and features some great playing by the entire band.

I personally prefer this album to Brubeck's "Jazz Impressions of Eurasia", which, despite rave Amazon reviews, I found to be rather boring and lackluster. Unlike many jazz albums, Jazz Impressions of Japan contains many songs that can be whistled. It is excellent melodic jazz featuring a variety of moods.

Jazz Impressions of Japan is among my favourite jazz discs - listen to it.

3 out of 5 stars EH..........................2004-01-10

The only good tracks on this cd are ''tokyo traffic,mr broadway, and osaki blues.'' they others are slow and boring. Joe is a little sleepy on this album because of the arrangments and tempoes. Only recommended for serious Brubeck collectors, like me.

4 out of 5 stars More Interesting than inspiring.......2002-12-06

I own quite a bit of the Dave Brubeck Quartet catalogue, and while I wouldn't say that Jazz Impressions of Japan is a lackluster collection, its direction and organization aren't as focused as "Eurasia" for example. The selections, individually are mostly very high-tempo, with choppy rhythms and fills. The black sheep of the disc is most certainly "Zen is When", which for some reason leaves at two and half minutes completely unnoticed. An interesting tidbit- Dave plays a lot of fifth intervals on the piano-this is essentially what gives us the "Oriental" tone as we know it. It is also what seperates the music heard on "Jazz Impressions of Japan" from most standard American jazz. This is not recommended to all, but for true lovers of Brubeck/the music of the orient.

2 out of 5 stars Some Gems, some lemons..........2007-01-06

I bought this for "coconut island," a brilliant herbie hancock cover. The songs that came from the "americanization" album are really great and inspired. The songs that came from the "lasting impressions" session are dreadful and tonedeaf.

    5 out of 5 stars Fantastic..........2003-05-14

I agree with Mr Nunes about stodgy pundits who don't know a horn from their - well ahem.

What I LOVE about both Masakela and Fela is their special spirit and energy. Its just no-holds barred, witty, improvisational. I guess it was the time they played - the spirit of revolution and all that. This album has that vibe, definitely. It has that spirit of experimentation and definitely a live club feel.

And what amazes is the occasionaly really soft, wondering song like well - the first one.

If you like this album PLEASE check out "The Boy's Doin' It". That's another amazing Masakela album and a very political one.

And its so ignorant to say that to be "authentically African" means that Coltrane and Miles can't influence you. How short sighted! Like what are Trane and Miles - Swedish? African music isn't just about someone's made-up idea (from National Geo) of people playing thumb pianos in the desert. Masakela is African and therefore, his music is! The nerve of some know-nothing from Texas to presume to tell Masakela what is authentically African and what isn't!

5 out of 5 stars This Is a Bonus Buy !!!.......2003-05-09

I had a Hugh Masekela collection that began when I was 15 years old, when I became Hugh's number one fan (prove I'm not!). I had both the albums that comprise this one. I loss possession of all of my Hugh albums (moving, relationship break-ups, etc., etc.). I'm ecstatic to recover two of them in one buy. I'm too prejudiced to really rate this CD because when the originals were out, I was about everything Hugh. I loved them then, and I love them now. The songs still sound as good to me now as they did then. But, the good thing is that even if you don't go way back with Hugh like me, the music is still GREAT!

    5 out of 5 stars Impress this..........2002-04-05

One of the biggest pain points of any musician is hearing some rank-amateur in the crowd complain that they didn't perform with enough proficiency to rank them up with their dutiful critic's standards. They are missing the point of live performance. But, then again, none of these nay-sayers have ever had to pick up a horn and play in their entire life.

This CD (dad's LP when I first spun it) defined live performance for me as a kid. Yea, ther might be a few subtle gaffs here and there, but they are in context with the music. This is more of an inflexion than a mistake. Score Masekela: 1, Grumpy Pundit: 0.

The depth of the recording itself makes it one of my favorites on my CD rotation. It certainly captures the ambiant refelctions of a smokey NYC nightclub that is The Village Gate. If you close your eyes, you can almost see the skinny black ties and dark sunglasses. Try not to pass this off as lounge fodder. You'll be making a gross error in judgement.

2 out of 5 stars not all that impressive.......2002-02-12

This is my first exposure to Masekela's music, and it was a huge letdown.

"The Lasting Impressions of Ooga Booga," sounds very pop and very loungey. Perhaps at the time it sounded much more progressive than it does now, but that doesn't evade the fact that nowadays it sounds fairly tired.

And it's absolutely painful to hear Masekela obviously missing notes on the trumpet and playing, well, not to be too blunt, very poorly indeed. His tone is blaring and his pitch is none too sure. And in spite of the alleged "African" nature of the record, I hear a ton of western influences, not least John Coltrane and Miles Davis compositionally.

Overall, I was somewhat less than impressed with this, and I can't recommend it. Perhaps Masekela's other records are better, but based on this one I would have to say you'd have to prove it to me first before I plunked down any more money.

5 out of 5 stars The best Jazz - Record I have ever heard.......2006-03-20

The romantic French Music of Poulenc, Satie, Debussy, Fauré and Ravel is one of the most important roots of Jazz Music. The different and smooth-changing colours of sounds are very next to the Jazz improvisations and harmonizations. Fred Hersch is one of the best contemporary Jazz-pianists and he perfectly mangages it to perform inspiring "New American interpretations of older French Music", as this CD could be subtitled.

The titles on the CD are sometimes a bit melancholic, mostly introspective, but sometimes there are valses and ballades as if you could dance to it. There is an extraordinary spectrum of moods and intelligent interpretations. Some of the pieces of music are performed with the outstanding Toots Thilemans on the harmonica - an instrument which perfectly fits to the "French atmosphere". The contributions of Eddie Daniels (clarinet), Kevin Eubanks (guitar) and James Newton (flute) are gorgeous as well.

All titles can be rated with five stars. There is definitely no "poor title" among them. The classical character of the pieces of music is respected at any time.

I heared this CD first in June 1989 (even before it has been released in June 1990) on Willis Conover's "House of sounds" on the Voice of America (VoA Europe). I have been searching for this CD (which has not been avaible in any CD-shop in Europe) for more than 15 years, only owning a cassette tape of the VoA-broadcast. As a Jazz-fan I am glad to have been finding it at amazon.com in 2005. I am astonished that there is only a secondary market for this excellent CD.

My recommendation: "Strong Buy". "The French Collection" is even better than the Fred Hersch CD "Jazz Impressions of Russian Composers", released on the label EMI USA (Series "Red Square Blue").
