Customer Reviews:
Not As Good As The Original "Walks".......2001-01-21
In a nutshell, "Leroy Walks Again" is simply not as good as "Leroy Walks." Bassist Leroy Vinnegar has again assembled some stellar musicians for "Again," including underrated tenor saxophonist Teddy Edwards, British pianist/vibist Victor Feldman and an early look at vibist Roy Ayers. It is the fine performances of Vinnegar and these three musicians, and some excellent original compositions, that makes "Leroy Walks Again" an enjoyable date. Unfortunately, the album fails to earn a fifth star because of lackluster playing by young trumpeter Freddy Hill (listen to how plain and ordinary his solos and phrasings are compared to those of Edwards), and pianist Mike Melvoin. This album is definitely worth looking into, but check out the original "Leroy Walks" first.
