A far-reaching musical vision.......2000-07-16

This is a fabulous recording...! I was fascinated from the first sounds, as the composer's experiences and visions, inspired by India and Tibet, came to life and enveloped me. I know I will be listening to this CD often for years to come, discovering deeper subtleties and finer nuances every time I revisit this stunning work by David Parsons.

A Classic.......1999-05-11

I bought this CD set in 1991 and still play it on a regular basis for meditation, reading etc. This is one of the best assortment of meditative works that have ever been recorded. This is a must have as the music somehow stays fresh year after year and very few of the current recordings hold a candle to this music, Every month I check to see if David Parsons has anything new coming out, although this would be a hard act to follow.

Parson's Magnum Opus.......1998-12-02

This CD is a towering achievement. It must rank as what is perhaps the best, truest, "new age" album to date. The pieces float with great depth and clarity, drawing the listener gradually deeper and deeper into Parson's inspired sonic perspective of the Tibetian world and culture.

She Do That is one of new my favorite songs. If you are into Acoustic Soul, and a deep mellow vibe with plenty of sparkle, I recommend this album. The whole album is a great listen. I look forward to more from a very talented singer/performer.

Oh my, she's an original. Her voice is so pure and tender, while it's youthful sweetness holds a certain depth and knowing that is disarming. Her phrasing and nuances are fresh. I am thinking of how Norah Jones burst on the scene, when we hear something so intensely unique we truly listen and want to hear more. Alycia Lang has the abilty to bring the voice of the ancients to earth again. Clear, heart felt, joyous and full of talent. It gives me hope that our future can hold this kind of inspiration and support for what the world might need to help itself along. This is a CD for every one who loves music and every young person on the path of becoming should rejoice in her guidance. Of course the mixing is the highest quality and adds to the collaboration of talents, along with song writers of father, daughter and friends. I keep hearing these songs in my head over and over again.

Very much worth seeking out........2002-12-05

This CD is a recording session that took place in June of 1994. Besides Rudresh Mahanthappa on the alto, it features Larry Kohut on the acoustic bass and Jerry Steinhilber on the drums. Jim Trompeter sits in on the piano for tracks 1 and 2 while Ryan Schultz adds bottom on bass trumpet on tracks 3 and 7.
Rudresh Mahanthappa has studied with Dave Liebman, Joe Lovano and Steve Coleman and more recently has been in Vijay Iyer's group.
He plays wonderfully on this album. He shows various influences such as Eric Dolphy, Ornette and Steve Coleman (thus the title to tune 7) and maybe Ken McIntyre (to my ears, track 6). He is also very much his own man with a sly and slippery sense of time. It is just that it is obvious that he loves the tradition of alto sax in jazz. Everyone else on the CD also came to play. I particularly like Larry Kohut's bass sound- a very strong presence particularly in the trio performances.
There are so many truely excellent musicians out there plying their trade that it is sometime a daunting choice to know which one to support with your purchase or to devote your listening time to. It may take you a while to find this disc. It is worth the effort. Mr. Mahanthappa is a peer in a great generation of alto players- he is right up there with Steve Coleman, Greg Osby, Kenny Garrett, Marty Ehrlich and Ned Rothenberg.

Great record.......2001-10-19

This record is a fine example of modern jazz music. The writing is fresh and the musicians are used in a variety of combinations. All of the players excel but the alto and bass have to be singled out for having particularly strong solo voices.

This is burning........2000-11-01

This is not the sort of album where a young lion tries to convince you that they are well versed in all the various styles, and the history, of jazz. Rather, this album is created from a singular voice and vision. This is not to say that Rudresh has not studied the masters -- he clearly has. But Rudi's sound is all is own. His technique is burning. His tunes are indsidiously infective. His ideas are endless. His sound is huge and confident. He is compared to Ornette and to Coltrane and to Steve Coleman and to Bird, but I don't think he sounds like any of those guys. He sounds like Alan Holdsworth on saxophone. Or if Tony Williams played saxaphone, he'd probably sound a lot like Rudi.

Burning. Definitely burning. And I'm not just saying that because he's my friend. But someone had to review this great disc.

Samuel Markus is an up and coming artist who appeals to all ages of music lovers. I can't stop listening to this EP! His timeless music is reminiscent of The Beatles, Leonard Cohen, and Bob Dylan. All the greats. Lyrical and deep universal themes mixed with a current hip vibe. Listeners take note and support this young musician composer!

TIMELESS.......2007-05-21

This EP is a real gem. You can tell you are in the hands of a true artist right away. The words and melodies are very powerfull yet the whole album has a very unplugged, relaxing vibe. Its very easy to listen to. Reminds me of the songwriters from the 60's and 70's yet there is something very fresh and modern about his music. It is music that nourishes the soul and I recomend you give it a listen.
