5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Pure & Beautiful.......2005-10-31

If you buy no other classical music, buy this collection. CD 1 (Relax) is perfect for dinner, quiet entertaining or just soft music while you're working. From "Come Away With Me", to "Whiter Shade of Pale" to "Knights in White Satin"... each piece is it's own movement - and moved you will be... Perfect for a romantic evening. CD2 is more robust, but equally entertaining. "Layla", "Livin On A Prayer", Stairway to Heaven", "Run to You" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" - you owe it to yourself to hear these licks performed by the RPO.

5 out of 5 stars Symphonic Rock.......2005-07-25

It really isn't rock, but it is a very pleasant presentation of popular music, rendered in creative ways by a full symphony orchestra. It sounds like the orchestra had a great time making these CD's.

3 out of 5 stars pleasant easy listening.......2005-07-19

It's not extremely interesting music, but nice background, relaxing and pleasant with full orchestra. Not a bad buy at all!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent CD.......2005-03-20

I received this as a present and at first I wasn't sure if I would like it because I don't like some of the original songs, but there's something about hearing the orchestra play that makes me like all of them. Just try it out.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Magnificent!.......2007-06-02

I have listened to this album time and time again. I never tire of its beauty, its passion, and its inventiveness. It is one of the few albums I must always have on my MP3 player. It is a work of genius by a man who is brilliantly interpreting the genius of the Beatles. The recording quality is superb.

5 out of 5 stars Interesting and surprising.......2006-06-11

I love this CD. It combines the best of both worlds--classical and rock. Paul McCartney said he took Bach pieces and made them into something new; for instance he used Bach chord progressions for his song "Jenny Wren," on his newest "Chaos and Creation" CD. Well, Bayless takes Beatles melodies and does great Bach-style things with them here. It is fun to hear Beatles done in the Baroque style, interestingly and flawlessly. Bayless is creative in his arrangements, AND he performs so well. This CD makes me smile. I betcha Bach and all four Beatles are smiling whenever its played.

5 out of 5 stars Superb artistry!.......2005-12-31

As a professional classical musician (and erstwhile Beatles fan - my mother raised me listening to them at home in the late 70s) I have to commend this delightful album! The playing itself is fantastic, and the artistry and skill of John Bayless in imitating Bach is really amazing. It's just plain fun to listen to, but sounds like "real" classical music. I've bought this as a gift for many other musical colleagues, to rave reviews!

5 out of 5 stars True to Bach, with a hint of The Beatles.......2005-08-13

This CD is a tribute to Bach with a hint of The Beatles infused between. It rings true to Bach's complex, multi-voiced piano pieces with mild Beatles undercurrents. Beautifully done. I completely disagree with the previous reviewers.

2 out of 5 stars Worth a try, but don't expect much.......2005-08-08

I like listening to experimental music, and thus I have a lot of respect for this album for what it attempts to accomplish. I had high expectations for this experiment because I am a huge fan of Bach and the Beatles. It's very hard to hear any Beatles influence during most of the album. Unless the money that you plan to spend on this album is disposable, I suggest that you consider spending some time listening to the samples before investing in this album.

      1 out of 5 stars Gah!.......2006-10-16

Instead of enhancing Beatles classics by incorporating a classical orchestra, all this record does is takes Beatles classics and make them sound like dull, pompous and completely unimaginative.

3 out of 5 stars no pop culture in here.......2000-02-08

A good album, but not the true thing. If you like classical music, and are a Beatles fan.. you might enjoy this "classical" rendition.

I'd like to POP the producer of this CD right in the chops. What drivel. Too much pompus self indulgence. Roll over Beetoven, but don't tell John Lennon the news.

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Lauren is an angel with a voice to match..........2003-01-20

I first met Lauren over a year ago when I saw her perform at a local venue. Not only is her music magickal, but I can personally say that she is as beautiful personally as her music is. She is a genuinely nice person and knowing that makes her music even more special to me. When I hear her voice, I always feel better, no matter how rough my day has been. Lauren's voice is just downright transcedental, easily taking you away from this mundane reality. Listening to her is like listening to faeries singing. I can't wait until her next CD comes out!

5 out of 5 stars A unique, mesmerizing, hauntingly beautiful debut album.......2002-09-01

There is something truly special about discovering a brand new artist, especially one with the unique sound and obvious talents of Lauren Kendall. This music is difficult to describe because it is uniquely different from much of the music I listen to. Its roots certainly seem to lie in classical music, but Kendall also incorporates jazz, a touch of folk music, and a contemporary sound as well. Echoes of Tori Amos are detectable in certain songs (e.g., She Wanders, Song In Dreams), but Kendall's style is uniquely her own. All in all, this music is beautiful, haunting, and powerful. It's obvious that this is a naturally gifted voice that has been further refined by serious musical training. Kendall has an incredible range, able to smoothly transition back and forth between brooding low notes and inspiring soprano strains. The vocals are everything here; the accompanying music is important and beautiful but often remains in the background as a complementary contributor to the songs until called upon for apropos musical flourishes.

Only a fool or a confident, very talented singer would attempt to cover a Tori Amos song; Lauren Kendall proves herself to be the latter. Not only does she give us a beautiful rendition of Amos' amazing song Mother, she does it a capella. She also provides the listener with her own lovely version of Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now. The remaining songs, with the exception of Rose Red and its folk music origins, were written by Kendall herself. With the Dark of the Night has a mysterious, stark, mediaeval quality enhanced by sweeping, crisp vocals. Red on Black is poetry set to music, moving from a subdued introduction to a seemingly cathartic moment toward the end to a perfectly graceful closing. Eden is a particularly strong track addressing the subject of loss, ending with an impressive flourish that changed my whole interpretation of the song. Rose Red has the strongest classical sound, infusing a traditional folk sound with touches of the type of lilting harmonic treatment one would find in the well-known classical song The Flower Duet. She Wanders is the most somber, wistful track, while Song in Dreams is a touching, reflective number that begins a capella.but deftly brings in soft musical accompaniment as it gradually builds in intensity. The only song I am not passionate about is Walking Down the Street, largely because I am not a huge fan of the jazz sound that infuses its verses; even here, though, there are some excellent transitions, as the choruses shed the jazzy trappings and embrace a more melancholy sound I really like.

Unfinished Song is definitely my favorite track. After a soothing introduction featuring a sound akin to wind chimes swaying in the wind, it features a forceful piano accompaniment to further bolster Kendall's passionate singing. There is also a subtle echo effect of the words that gives the song an interesting depth and fullness. The bonus track is a refreshing, welcome surprise. A strong drum beat pushes this energetic track beyond the realm of mere toe-tapping, and I think this final song provides the album with a good juxtaposition between its beginning and end.

This music is so beautiful that it is easy to sort of lose yourself in it and lose focus of the actual lyrics, which are basically pure poetry put to music. There is a terrific flow from one song to another, which is a statement I can rarely make about an artist's initial release. This is a perfect CD to put in when you get home at the end of a hard day and just want to achieve a state of calm or even serenity. It does make for lovely, relaxing background music, but I must emphasize the fact that the ultimate experience of its true beauty and grace comes from concentrating on the lyrics and letting the magic of this talented singer's music wash over you and penetrate your very soul.

5 out of 5 stars Calming and Relaxing.......2002-05-29

This CD has brought many calming and relaxing feelings to me. I really enjoyed this type of music. I actually bought copies so I could listen to it in my car. Best CD I have heard in a long time. Would Highly Recommend this to anyone.
