Album Description
After his foray into old school country with 2004's "Cut 'N Shoot", legendary singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer Morlix explores a darker, more rock-oriented vibe with this record. Recorded after a year in which he lost several people close to him, the theme of death and dying surfaces on several tracks. His trademark dark humor, however, tempers the sadness and makes "Diamonds And Dust" a unique listening experience. In addition to his originals, Morlix includes a cover of Dylan's "With God On Our Side", a song as timely today as it was when it was written 44 years ago. This is another unique and brilliant chapter in Morlix's uniquely brilliant career.

Do yourself a favor. If you like Queen and Classical Music BUY THIS CD. You won't be sorry.
YES!!!!.......2005-06-05
THey could have released a CD with only this song and I would have bought/borrowed/stolen it to get it. This song is definitely a highlight, but don't stop there, since the rest of the CD will make you want to play it over and over again.
If you've been thinking about buying a String Quartet Tribute, but don't know which to buy, I would buy this one, without a doubt.

While the sales of Sarah Brightman's ambitious, Middle Eastern-themed 2003 album Harem may have fallen short of its predecessor, the veteran UK chanteuse's popularity as a live performer has only mushroomed. This live recording of her ambitious, sold-out Harem World Tour engagement at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Arena is testament to that appeal, begging the question: Will Brightman become the Grateful Dead of classical crossover? Indeed, abetted by the rich sonic textures of longtime producer/collaborator Frank Peterson, the worldbeat conceits of her recent studio recordings are folded into a larger, even more expansive live vision here. Brightman's overt dramatic instincts and oft-chaemeleonic vocal abilities drive a slate of material that stretches from the Arabian Nights/Madame Butterflypastiche of Harem's seductive "It's A Beautiful Day" through surprisingly effective classical/rock reinventions of Kansas' "Dust in the Wind" andSarah Brightman Photos

Inspiring, Beautiful and The Sweetest Voice!.......2005-08-21
We, the fans of this great artist finelly have in our hands a live album, and it's amazing:
-The voice is totaly live, she sang about 24 complete songs in the show, but the album only contains 15.
-Snow In The Sahara is a lovely song.
If you have the chase of get this alubum, don't doubt and get it; It wond disapoint you!
astounding performance.......2005-06-07
However, experiencing this epic and intensely mystical concert compelled me to realize the individual and unique glory of Sarah Brightman. Also, this concert is so phenomenally entertaining at many levels that I couldn't help but fall absolutely in love with the special magic of Sarah Brightman. Obviously, the expansive Middle Eastern milieu can accommodate more than one angelic vocalist!
I now consider Lisa Gerrard and Sarah Brightman to be geniuses who both warrant goddess status in the pantheon of lyrical greats. To see either one of them perform live is surely one of the most powerful and memorable sensory experiences one could ever have!
Great, of course.......2005-03-18

A truly splendid collection.......2007-01-04
The sound quality is very good, especially given the age of many of the sources.
There's not a ton of historical/biographical info in the 200+ page book, but the inclusion of all the lyrics of every song is a huge win. The packaging is as cool as it looks, but isn't terribly practical for day-to-day use. That wasn't a problem for me, as I ripped all six CDs and have primarily played them off my computers, but could be a nuisance for some.
This Is A Must-Have.......2006-05-13
A piece of America.......2005-12-10
Dust to Digital is the best outfit in the world for locating and assembling such massive historical recordings. This is the most pleasureable set of gospel (if you can limit it to that genre) music, ever. Thank you DtoD.

Album Description
Massive 5CD set of American Primitive music unearthed for the first time (in various styles: Jug Band, Country, Old Time, Blues and Bluegrass), recorded and documented by Joe Bussard's 78-RPM Fonotone label, 1956-1969 -- not one track previously on CD before. Incredible package featuring 131 tracks over 5 discs, 160-page perfect-bound book, 17 full-color postcards, 3 record label reproductions in souvenir folder and a nickel-plated Fonotone Records bottle opener(!) -- all packaged in a deluxe cigar box. The label that gave us one of the most elaborate packaging presentations of the modern era (Goodbye Babylon, DTD's first release from 2004). What started as a conversation about Fonotone Records metamorphasized into this 5CD box set, for which no stone went unturned. Master reel-to-reel tapes, unplayed for decades but still pristine, were painstakingly remastered; forgotten Kodak slides in old cigar boxes were dusted off and retouched; and musicians! of all stripes who had disappeared more than 35 years ago were tracked down. Their stories, and the story of Fonotone, the last 78-RPM record label in the land, are told here with words, pictures and music. Take a look-see, give it a listen, and get a rare portrait of a long-gone America.Customer Reviews:

Hee Haw ain't got nothin' on this!.......2006-01-15
This cleverly assembled boxed set is as pleasing to the eyes as it is to the ears! Joe Bussard and his crew were truly "pickin' and grinnin"!
Thanks Joe, you took me back to my Grandmother's front porch! .......2005-12-17
When I listened to the music it took me back to my earliest childhood memories. The cigar box with the book, postcards and pictures, and even the bottle opener placed me back into that era of time. I believe Joe Bussard and the artists would be proud of their legacy "living on". I know my experience with the set created a greater sense of appreciation of their efforts and their contribution to my life.
Thanks again Joe and the people at Dust to Digital!

Though the gravel and dirt in his voice have earned this Iowa artist comparisons with Tom Waits, those with longer memories might recognize Captain Beefheart as a closer soundalike. With his stripped-down instrumentation of banjo and guitar--occasionally augmented by a bare-bones band--William Elliott Whitmore taps into the most primal themes of inescapable death and unforgivable sin. Amid the funereal blues of "Diggin' My Grave" and "The Buzzards Won't Cry" and the dying farmer's request on the closing "Porchlight" (punctuated with a tubercular-sounding cough as a coda), the comparatively tender "When Push Comes to Love" brings melodic relief and the classic country waltz "Sorest of Eyes" has a hint of a lilt. Otherwise, the artistry is as bleak as the Samuel Beckett epigram on the liner, as the music takes a cold, hard look at mortality and evokes the slimmest hope of redemption. --Don McLeeseCustomer Reviews:

What I liked best about this album was its fondness for the subject matter of working folks, but not in a studied, academic or ironic sense. While I like the Be Good Tanyas, for instance, they often irritate me, in part because I hear so much Holy Modal Rounders in their arrangements and even vocals. Both of these groups approach their work with an irreverence that often gets in the way of the song itself (of course, the Rounders were designed to be stoner "acid folk", which is an excuse if you actually lived through that errrrrra).
"Ashes to Dust" presents a decidedly mature take on old things. WEW is not a songster who takes on personas (Dylan, Springsteen), because there is always the sense that he is the guy in the song. Pretty hard to pull off and he does it on every cut this album. The arrangements are simple and contemporary, with his playing being noticeably improved over "Hymns." I love "Sorest Eye," "Hub Cale" and "Heart in Your Hand" in particular, with the latter's lines "You're a rainstorm, a fire and a trainwreck/All wrapped up in ribbons and lace" being up for an alltime-country writing award--both my male and female friends like the whole idea of that line, for the same reasons. This is really one hell of an album, and the growth Whitmore has shown makes me anxious to see what he does next. Duet with Gillian Welch? Mercy.
