If your previous album was a slow-burning success story, it can be hard to be expected to hit the ground running on the follow-up. Fortunately, the Kaiser Chiefs have done just that on the fantastically titled Yours Truly, Angry Mob. Like Employment, their debut and this album's predecessor, Yours Truly... is full of radio-friendly, hook-ridden tunes that mask cunningly subversive lyrics. The Kaiser Chiefs are very much a Britpop band, which is probably why "Highroyds" opening couplet--"I remember nights out when we were young/They weren't very good, they were rubbish"--sounds like something Jarvis Cocker would sing while being backed by the boys from Blur. And it's this lyrical sentiment that's carried throughout the album, much of which is satire wrapped up in potential singles. Best of all, and a perfect example of this, is "The Angry Mob," sure to be shouted along to by exactly the people it's targeting. It's the rare band that can mock and judge its audience and still be loved by them, but that's exactly what the Kaiser Chiefs have done on Yours Truly, Angry Mob. --Ted KordAlbum Description
Yours Truly, Angry Mob is the Kaiser Chiefs's brilliant follow-up to their debut, Employment.Kaiser Chiefs were one the great musical success stories of 2005. Fast forward to 2007 and Kaiser Chiefs (Ricky Wilson - lead vocals), Andrew "Whitey" White (guitar), Simon Rix (bass), Nick "Peanut" Baines (keyboards) and Nick Hodgson (drums and vocals) are about to unveil their much anticipated second album.
Yours Truly, Angry Mob wields its musical might from the start in the shape of "Ruby" - an infectious single to rival anything the band have done before. "Angry Mob", a favorite from the band's European festival appearances last year is destined to be a universal fan favorite. "Heat Dies Down" will surely have 'em pogoing in the aisles en masse, while the stunning "Everything Is Average Nowadays" is perhaps the thread linking Yours Truly... with its predecessor. Yours Truly, Angry Mob, as one band member has been heard to utter, "is an album full of big choruses and even bigger guitars". Maybe so. It's also the work of a band hitting their creative stride. All hail the Chiefs!

A Fun Album.......2007-05-13
Rip-roaring fun!!.......2007-04-27
Opening the disc is the uncharacteristic mellow and melodic straight ahead love song "Ruby", the lead off single, which gave them their first UK #1. Following is "The angry mob" whose sing-a-long chorus comes after a tempo shift towards the end of the track.
"Heat dies down" is a catchy, sunny and upbeat song with a terrific guitar riff, sounding not unlike something Franz Ferdinand would do. In a similar vein is the choppy "Learnt my lesson well" with sunny sounding harmonies.
Returning to the Kaiser Chiefs we all know and love, cheeky and rebellious sounding ("Everyday I love you less & less" & "I predict a riot" anyone?) are "Highroyds", "Thank you very much", the buddy song "My kind of guy", the punk feel of "Everything is average nowadays" (the album's second single), the defiant "I can do it without you", the latter displaying their acerbic wit to the full.
Slowing things down, we get the tender acoustic "Love's not a competition (but I'm winning)", the brief piano ballad "Boxing champ", and "Try your best".
Closing is the delightful Smiths-like "Retirement", (I want to get by without the man on my back, they sing) a song we all wish we could sing. Ah!!
Rip-roaring fun!!

Though the music of Canadian fiddler Natalie MacMaster remains rooted in her native Cape Breton, it continues to branch in some surprising directions. No purist, MacMaster employs an aggressive guitar and rhythm section, along with mini-Moog and electric pipes on "Matt & Nat's," while the jazzy intro to the "Flea as a Bird" medley seems to channel the style of Stephane Grappelli. Guest vocalist Michael McDonald gives the traditional "Danny Boy" a soulful, somber twist, and "Farewell to Peter" offers an instrumental elegy to Peter Jennings, MacMaster's late friend and countryman. Yet uptempo instrumentals dominate, as the opening "Volcanic Jig" builds to an eruption worthy of its title, "David's Jig" employs her step dancing as percussion, and her flamboyant virtuosity through much of the music finds her rarely settling for one note where she can squeeze in three or four. --Don McLeeseCustomer Reviews:

horn... along comes RICK BRAUN and this CD proves iteself....All
the new trumpters sound the same ole same with nothing to say and no intervention of quality and certainly with NO SOUL like Rick Braun. Only he consider what the song iteself is saying. This man reads the music it seems and gives it a true reading still being himself and one is able to identify immediatedly and appreciate just who it is and what it is!!!BRAVO!!BRAVO!!
Not just one song worth anything on this release but this artist
makes every song himself although he's ready to share it with you if you listen......
THANKS Rick...... and please keep it up!!
Why did you this to us, Rick? Why?.......2006-03-05
Kiss of Life is the only light of hope (and that's why this CD gets 1 star - otherwise should be zero, or even negative!) but that's only because I love Sade.

I agree with those who say that Russell Hitchcock voice is gone. It seems that his soaring vocals are a thing of the past; He now sounds like Steve Miller with a sinus infection.
The reviewer who, based on Hitchcock's clear vocals, said that "The Scene" sounds like it was recorded some years ago and just placed on this album may be on to something. The copyright date on all of the other songs is either 2000 or 2001. The copyright date on "The Scene" is....1998!!! Could it be that it was a leftover from the "Book Of Love" sessions?
Anyway, at the price that amazon.com is offering right now, it is worth picking up this album only if you are a completist. Otherwise, you might want to pass on it.

Hardest CD I own (my first SOIA CD).......2002-06-01
The first song that appears on the CD sets the mood of the CD great. The lyrics really portray the rest of the CD nicely. The guitar is rough and hard. Which is exactly the way to define this CD. This is brutal earsplitting hardcore...Bands that come to mind are Raised Fist, Straight Faced, Death By Stereo and the like. Since bands like that had never really been right up my alley, I am surprised that I landed up liking this so much. Something about this CD separates itself from the other brutal hardcore bands and I don't know what. But whatever it is, I like it.
It's interesting how some of the songs near the end of the CD really tone down on the hard edge and tough brutal guitar rhythm. In fact I would have to say the song "America" isn't even hardcore. It's straight up Dropkick Murphys style punk! Another song near the end that isn't really hardcore is "Souvenir". It's sort of a punk song with a just a spice of hardcore. However it must be clear that this softening up statement is just a general statement and doesn't apply to all of the songs. In fact the toughest song on the CD (Broke d**k) is near the end.
As for the lyrics. Well, you'd think with a name like Sick of It All it would be much more political. when in reality the only political song on here is "America". You'd also think that they'd at least have a couple of those "Down with the system, ANARCHY" songs that I love. But, they don't have any of those. However, all the songs still have a message which makes it punk lyrics anyway.
When Pennywise has non-political messages the lyrics make perfect sense. In fact it inspires me and I live my life "the Pennywise way". I totally agree with them. However, I seldom agree with these guys. For instance, the message to "The Bland Within" is basically saying that it's human nature to not learn from your mistakes so don't try. I agree that that's human nature but that doesn't mean you can't FIGHT that. That is the EXCACT reason why today's world is in such a mess. Another thing is that the song "Turn My Back" is like the complete opposite of inspirational Pennywise compassion songs like "It's Up to You". This is not to say I don't like the lyrics. Because even though, I disagree with them a lot of the time it is still interesting to hear what they have to say. So overall, if you like brutal metal influenced hardcore do NOT pass this up. You won't be disappointed.
