If your previous album was a slow-burning success story, it can be hard to be expected to hit the ground running on the follow-up. Fortunately, the Kaiser Chiefs have done just that on the fantastically titled Yours Truly, Angry Mob. Like Employment, their debut and this album's predecessor, Yours Truly... is full of radio-friendly, hook-ridden tunes that mask cunningly subversive lyrics. The Kaiser Chiefs are very much a Britpop band, which is probably why "Highroyds" opening couplet--"I remember nights out when we were young/They weren't very good, they were rubbish"--sounds like something Jarvis Cocker would sing while being backed by the boys from Blur. And it's this lyrical sentiment that's carried throughout the album, much of which is satire wrapped up in potential singles. Best of all, and a perfect example of this, is "The Angry Mob," sure to be shouted along to by exactly the people it's targeting. It's the rare band that can mock and judge its audience and still be loved by them, but that's exactly what the Kaiser Chiefs have done on Yours Truly, Angry Mob. --Ted Kord

Album Description

Yours Truly, Angry Mob is the Kaiser Chiefs's brilliant follow-up to their debut, Employment.

Kaiser Chiefs were one the great musical success stories of 2005. Fast forward to 2007 and Kaiser Chiefs (Ricky Wilson - lead vocals), Andrew "Whitey" White (guitar), Simon Rix (bass), Nick "Peanut" Baines (keyboards) and Nick Hodgson (drums and vocals) are about to unveil their much anticipated second album.

Yours Truly, Angry Mob wields its musical might from the start in the shape of "Ruby" - an infectious single to rival anything the band have done before. "Angry Mob", a favorite from the band's European festival appearances last year is destined to be a universal fan favorite. "Heat Dies Down" will surely have 'em pogoing in the aisles en masse, while the stunning "Everything Is Average Nowadays" is perhaps the thread linking Yours Truly... with its predecessor. Yours Truly, Angry Mob, as one band member has been heard to utter, "is an album full of big choruses and even bigger guitars". Maybe so. It's also the work of a band hitting their creative stride. All hail the Chiefs!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Amazing album!.......2007-06-12

I love alternative music. Unfortunately, I have not liked alot of what I have heard lately. That was until I heard the song Ruby on the radio. I was blown away by the lyrics and the great sound of this band. I have been buying alot of classic rock lately. This is the first current alternative cd I have bought in long time. I was a little concerned because people had said that Ruby was the only good song on the album. In my opinion, the rest of the album is just as good as Ruby. I can't stop listening to it. Five stars all the way!

3 out of 5 stars Not A Lot.......2007-05-29

Every time I think of this band, I remember them as the Kaiser "Chefs" rather than the Kaiser "Chiefs"; and I keep trying to associate the band with food. As much as this is one of my brain quirks, it's indicative that the band is almost memorable. There's enough here that shows promise to make you want to tune in, but there's not enough to glue you to them. The opening song "Ruby" is immediately attractive, but then wore a bit thin. I more like the second track "The Angry Mob" that boasts punk anthem joyfulness, "You'll raise a glass until you raise a fist or two & get a shopping basket wrapped round your head." "Heat Dies Down" sounds quite similar to the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black." It repeats in my song rotation with its humor making me smile, "So I tried that night to do all the things I thought you'd like but that just made it worse & I impressed you not -- well not a lot." A couple other tracks like "Learnt My Lesson Well" & "Retirement" are pretty good. Some of the tracks like "Highroyds" go by before I remember to listen. So in the end, this is a rather inconsistent set with a few great tracks. It's enough for now. Enjoy!

3 out of 5 stars listen to it first.......2007-05-24

Ruby is definitely one of my favorite songs of all time, but i listened to the album at a friends house, and the rest of the songs just didnt do the same thing for me. kaiser chiefs just probably arent the right style of music for me. so i just suggest to anyone who heard Ruby and loved it, listen to the whole album before you buy it.

5 out of 5 stars A Fun Album.......2007-05-13

Nearly every song on here is a pleasure. Nothing too deep, just good indie rock with good clean (sonically, that is) vocals. There's some very well produced nuances I found after listening with a good pair of headphones. I especially like the way they used synths on Ruby (one of my favorite songs on here). They are reminiscent of XTC in that quirky way while still rockin' out. I haven't really been moved by some of the slower tempo songs, but it's probably not what I'm into right now. It's a good all-around album and I just picked up an older one a few days ago, so I can't comment on it just yet.

5 out of 5 stars Rip-roaring fun!!.......2007-04-27

Our favourite rabble rousing lot, Kaiser Chiefs, return with their sophomore disc, "Yours truly, angry mob", which has already topped the UK album charts.

Opening the disc is the uncharacteristic mellow and melodic straight ahead love song "Ruby", the lead off single, which gave them their first UK #1. Following is "The angry mob" whose sing-a-long chorus comes after a tempo shift towards the end of the track.

"Heat dies down" is a catchy, sunny and upbeat song with a terrific guitar riff, sounding not unlike something Franz Ferdinand would do. In a similar vein is the choppy "Learnt my lesson well" with sunny sounding harmonies.

Returning to the Kaiser Chiefs we all know and love, cheeky and rebellious sounding ("Everyday I love you less & less" & "I predict a riot" anyone?) are "Highroyds", "Thank you very much", the buddy song "My kind of guy", the punk feel of "Everything is average nowadays" (the album's second single), the defiant "I can do it without you", the latter displaying their acerbic wit to the full.

Slowing things down, we get the tender acoustic "Love's not a competition (but I'm winning)", the brief piano ballad "Boxing champ", and "Try your best".

Closing is the delightful Smiths-like "Retirement", (I want to get by without the man on my back, they sing) a song we all wish we could sing. Ah!!

Rip-roaring fun!!

5 out of 5 stars fatevi legare.......2007-07-20

4 out of 5 stars very pleasantly surprised.......2007-07-11

I took a risk and bought this album because of the song "Ruby". The entire album turned out to be very good, and I'm quite happy with it. Good catchy songs throughout. Do many people today buy entire albums, instead of just downloading one or two songs from a band? Probably not, and it's a shame. I recommend the album.

2 out of 5 stars radio friendly.......2007-07-08

It is exactly the words radio friendly in amazon's little review that make me flinch. KS have turned into a pop band and they play songs that are nice, but just a little heavier than your average boyband. Too much Kinks, too much other (better) Britpop bands and even Spinal Tap.

Over the top, just not very good.

5 out of 5 stars loutish pop (but in a very good way).......2007-05-14

My first listen was on an iPod, my second-tenth on an excellent car stereo. Do yourself a favor and pump this album out loud. The production screams for speakers.

4 out of 5 stars Worth a buy.......2007-05-12

Solid CD from this UK band, but Ruby Ruby, the first single, is still my favorite.

Though the music of Canadian fiddler Natalie MacMaster remains rooted in her native Cape Breton, it continues to branch in some surprising directions. No purist, MacMaster employs an aggressive guitar and rhythm section, along with mini-Moog and electric pipes on "Matt & Nat's," while the jazzy intro to the "Flea as a Bird" medley seems to channel the style of Stephane Grappelli. Guest vocalist Michael McDonald gives the traditional "Danny Boy" a soulful, somber twist, and "Farewell to Peter" offers an instrumental elegy to Peter Jennings, MacMaster's late friend and countryman. Yet uptempo instrumentals dominate, as the opening "Volcanic Jig" builds to an eruption worthy of its title, "David's Jig" employs her step dancing as percussion, and her flamboyant virtuosity through much of the music finds her rarely settling for one note where she can squeeze in three or four. --Don McLeese

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding fiddle player!.......2007-05-13

I happen to see this performer live this year and even though she was quite pregnant, her performance was terrific as is her cd. Her talent reflects in her ability to keep you interested in every song she creates. The musicians that accompany Natalie only enhance her performance and make this cd even better. If you enjoy true fiddle playing, I recommend this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Natalie does it all.......2007-05-12

I have seen Natalie McMaster several times and have some of her previous recordings. This one is somewhat of a departure from her usual fiddle music, delving more into a mood from classical to klezmer. She still entertains marvelously and shows her versality with the music she has created here. It is a mix of warmth, joy and sadness from a lady who has an unmatched personality and talent. I find myself playing this again and again. The only down side is Michael McDonald's "Danny Boy".

4 out of 5 stars A rewarding performer.......2007-03-09

Natalie McMaster is, amazingly, the real thing. She has huge talent, without the ego to match. She is such a great performer for her live audiences, talking, dancing, and of course fiddling. She gives credit to her family, her band, and her country. She's a charmer, and this CD has all of her charm and talent.

5 out of 5 stars Sincerely - "yours Truly".......2007-02-23

Thoroughly enjoyable and such a virtuoso. I play it as I drift off to sleep. And I love the one about Peter Jennings - such a kind man - and we were all privileged to have him come into our home nightly for many years.

5 out of 5 stars what a fiddle.......2007-02-20

How far can Natalie go? This time she pushes her limits far beyond. A mixture in instrumentation (not only the traditional ones, but also modern ones), plenty of jazzy moments and quiet traditional pieces. The driving force is amazing. She propels her band up to the maximum and seems to take much pleasure in it. I would like to give five stars and can not wait any longer to see this fiddle lady live in concert. Hopefully she will make some stops in central europe in the future.

3 out of 5 stars More "Sessions" please.......2007-06-21

For me, Rick Braun is the best smooth jazz act around. I probably own every CD of his and looking to buy the ones I don't. (Like his out-of-stock "Christmas Present" album). But this record (Yours truly) was such a disspointment. So "Kenny G", so "elevator music", so not-jazz, so NOT-RICK-BRAUN. Please, Rick, when can we have you back? When can we expect "Sessions Vol.2"? I can't wait.

5 out of 5 stars A fine covers album.......2007-05-10

May i start by saying i had the pleasure of seeing this truly great artist play live in london about 6 years ago and can Honestly say it was one of the highlights of my twenty years of viewing live performances. What makes this album so special is his personal choice of tunes to cover.Great from start to finish the highlight being Brauns take on Sade's "kiss of Life" which i also happen to beleive is her best song to date and Rick more than does it justice , from the heart , pure beauty.

2 out of 5 stars Don't Be Fooled!.......2007-04-01

Wish I have read some reviewers comments before buying it. Very disappointing. Try "Kisses in the Rain".

3 out of 5 stars Finally.....a trumpet artist!!!.......2006-06-03

Yes, after years waiting on some musician to play some decent
horn... along comes RICK BRAUN and this CD proves iteself....All
the new trumpters sound the same ole same with nothing to say and no intervention of quality and certainly with NO SOUL like Rick Braun. Only he consider what the song iteself is saying. This man reads the music it seems and gives it a true reading still being himself and one is able to identify immediatedly and appreciate just who it is and what it is!!!BRAVO!!BRAVO!!
Not just one song worth anything on this release but this artist
makes every song himself although he's ready to share it with you if you listen......
THANKS Rick...... and please keep it up!!

1 out of 5 stars Why did you this to us, Rick? Why?.......2006-03-05

Oh my god... how can be possible that such a talented composer had to fall in such deep nonsense, remaking a whole bunch of old tunes to end up like something much worse than even Muzak? This is the music you'll hear again and again at the supermarket, just sufficiently engineered to num the brain.

Kiss of Life is the only light of hope (and that's why this CD gets 1 star - otherwise should be zero, or even negative!) but that's only because I love Sade.

4 out of 5 stars A Valiant Effort.......2006-07-06

I was not dissapointed with this album at all. The album delivered with some very solid tracks. A few filler songs were found on the album, but all in all this this was a fine Air Supply album. These guys have been putting albums out about every two years for 30 odd years now, some hit...some dont. This one hit. It's worth getting. If your a fan of 80's Air Supply this album may not be the best one to get as the boys have gotten older and Russell's voice has changed quite a bit. He still sounds good but you wont recognize him as the same singer, but I assure you he is ;)

5 out of 5 stars Air supply ~ Yours truly.......2006-01-08

Wow this album is totally awsome!!!! I started listening to air supply when i found one of my moms old 45's i loved it and they are my favorite band and always will be! i dont really know why i like this album... but i think air supply rocks!!and there songs just kept/keep getting better and better!!!!

5 out of 5 stars I love it!!!.......2005-03-12

Ther are alot of bands that try to put out new albums that really suck. Air Supply ain't one of them. This is amazing. Sure they sound different, but the love and harmony is still there. I strongly suggest songs like "The Scene","Who Am I?", "Don't Throw Our Love Away", and the heart breaking "Hard to Forget Her". Buy this one. It is really amazing. Don't be picky, just listen to it for what it is... pure GENIUS

4 out of 5 stars Give them A BREAK!!!!.......2004-04-06

I'm sitting here reading some of the reviews , and one review actually started with the word "Horrible". Yours Truly , in my opinion , which you may tell me to shove , is one of their finest works to date. Now I have been an AirHead since the eighties , at the begining. I mean Russell was my idol. I wanted to be him , but lets call a spade a spade , voices deepen and change with age...hello!!! They're not 20 anymore , and I guess it would have been nieve to put on this cd and expect the vocal range of "Making love out of nothing at all" , but I thought Russell's voice shined on "Tell me of Spring" and "If You Love Me". People are actually saying this album isnt as good as Book of Love , and to that I say PLEASE!!!! You cant compare the two. Just listen to Dont throw our love away , or Yours Truly. I will admit , that The Vanishing Race was an exceptional album , but I thought Too sentimental was a bit high and jackson 5 ish....If I am being honest...They have yet to touch their 85 self titled, in my opinion , the best CD they've ever done, but yours truly deffinitely deserves a listen. I gave it four stars because the 5 star prize goes to the 85 self titled

2 out of 5 stars What happened???.......2003-04-08

I was very excited to learn that Air Supply had a new album out, and I ordered it immediately...but the only thing that is like the Air Supply I used to love was Graham Russell's voice.

I agree with those who say that Russell Hitchcock voice is gone. It seems that his soaring vocals are a thing of the past; He now sounds like Steve Miller with a sinus infection.

The reviewer who, based on Hitchcock's clear vocals, said that "The Scene" sounds like it was recorded some years ago and just placed on this album may be on to something. The copyright date on all of the other songs is either 2000 or 2001. The copyright date on "The Scene" is....1998!!! Could it be that it was a leftover from the "Book Of Love" sessions?

Anyway, at the price that amazon.com is offering right now, it is worth picking up this album only if you are a completist. Otherwise, you might want to pass on it.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars brilliant new music for wedding ceremony.......2004-11-13

As a person who sings at religious wedding ceremonies, I'm always on the look out for new material. I came across Truly Yours music by accident while surfing the web and I'm very glad I did. Elaine McDonald has written really beautiful music for weddings on this cd.The melodies are gorgeous but it's the lyrics where she really shines. All the songs are on the theme of love, exchanging rings and tying it in with faith in God.She has even written a special song for the lighting of the unity candle "two flames that glow within our souls, two hearts that sing in harmony" to give an example. I sang this at my cousin's wedding in August and everyone loved it.My favourite song on the cd is "Send us an Angel" which had everyone in tears, it's all about God sending an angel to guide the couple along life's way, very spiritual.I would definitely recommend this cd from a very talented songwriter and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I have.A must have for Wedding singers!

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful music!!.......2004-11-01

Seemed like all the weddings I went to basically had the same music. We were looking for a way to make our ceremony unique and this was it. So many people made comments on our beautiful music and our vocalists were thrilled with our choices. I definately recommend this CD.

5 out of 5 stars For me their best album ever!.......2006-05-04

I've heard this record a thousand times since I bought it and it is still not getting boring. The diversity of the songs is awesome and nevertheless its still oldschool hardcore with a positive attitude. When you are new to hardcore, buy this record and it will blow you away! This CD picked me up when I was down! Thank you forever for this record! "This is not an image, this is our lifes!"

5 out of 5 stars another great sick of it all release........2003-12-14

first of all, i love these guys. every cd they put has failed to disappoint me. that's what i love about them. definitely pick this one up along with all of the other sick of it all releases. standout tracks: souvenir, america, and disco sucks f-ck everything.

5 out of 5 stars You'll be Blown Away for sure.......2003-07-13

First off, if this sounds like the newer, better hardcore bands. Well it's because they were around before all that, and influenced them all. Sick Of It All started up long, long ago from the ashes of Straight Ahead and one of many Agnostic Front break-ups. Agnostic Front has been around even longer(but not like this). SOIA are the tightest, smartest and just plain greatest of the hardcore machines out there. The older they get the deeper they dig, never has this band taken thier sound down a notch, constant improvement over the years. I do admit this one is less accessable than others, but comparisons are feeble. This is what the band is now, and I'm still a fan. Nails, Blown Away, America, No Apologies... and much more, it's all good. Also: Check out Creep Division if you can find it, but only if you like these guys and Good Riddance.

5 out of 5 stars keep them coming guys.......2003-03-24

one of the alltime greatest, if not the greastest hardcore band. they just seem to get better and better through the years. disco sucks f--- everything is a great song. lyrics are always a plus with me and lou can write a damn good song!!

5 out of 5 stars Hardest CD I own (my first SOIA CD).......2002-06-01

I have to admit, this is not really the type of CD I generally buy. I have nothing against it obviously. But my tastes just run more towards bands like Pennywise, NOFX, Anti-Flag etc. However, lately I have been getting into hardcore with bands like Agnostic Front, Madball etc. So I went to an anonymous independent record st0re and none of that was available. I knew I had to come home with some hardcore CD so I got this one and hit the road.

The first song that appears on the CD sets the mood of the CD great. The lyrics really portray the rest of the CD nicely. The guitar is rough and hard. Which is exactly the way to define this CD. This is brutal earsplitting hardcore...Bands that come to mind are Raised Fist, Straight Faced, Death By Stereo and the like. Since bands like that had never really been right up my alley, I am surprised that I landed up liking this so much. Something about this CD separates itself from the other brutal hardcore bands and I don't know what. But whatever it is, I like it.

It's interesting how some of the songs near the end of the CD really tone down on the hard edge and tough brutal guitar rhythm. In fact I would have to say the song "America" isn't even hardcore. It's straight up Dropkick Murphys style punk! Another song near the end that isn't really hardcore is "Souvenir". It's sort of a punk song with a just a spice of hardcore. However it must be clear that this softening up statement is just a general statement and doesn't apply to all of the songs. In fact the toughest song on the CD (Broke d**k) is near the end.

As for the lyrics. Well, you'd think with a name like Sick of It All it would be much more political. when in reality the only political song on here is "America". You'd also think that they'd at least have a couple of those "Down with the system, ANARCHY" songs that I love. But, they don't have any of those. However, all the songs still have a message which makes it punk lyrics anyway.

When Pennywise has non-political messages the lyrics make perfect sense. In fact it inspires me and I live my life "the Pennywise way". I totally agree with them. However, I seldom agree with these guys. For instance, the message to "The Bland Within" is basically saying that it's human nature to not learn from your mistakes so don't try. I agree that that's human nature but that doesn't mean you can't FIGHT that. That is the EXCACT reason why today's world is in such a mess. Another thing is that the song "Turn My Back" is like the complete opposite of inspirational Pennywise compassion songs like "It's Up to You". This is not to say I don't like the lyrics. Because even though, I disagree with them a lot of the time it is still interesting to hear what they have to say. So overall, if you like brutal metal influenced hardcore do NOT pass this up. You won't be disappointed.
