Room-filling sound.......2002-04-08

Cleveland-style polkas are, of course, the greatest music ever. Dick Suhay makes the most of it here, with some Cleveland classics. The bass rhythm sounds as though it is produced, not by a tuba or a bass fiddle, but by the pedals of an electronic organ. The effect is startling, making even a small boom-box sound like an auditorium-style audio system with 3-foot speakers. The rest of the organ makes frequent appearances, too, as do good old-fashioned vocals. There's plenty of polka and waltz entertainment in these 25 tracks.

A fantastic CD for a polka lover like me. Dick Suhay's polkas and waltzes create a happy feeling and makes you want to dance. His 22 Cleveland Style Polka songs is excellent! Keep up the good work by bringing back this style of music.

Quite a Surprise!.......2000-11-21

Although I am familiar with polka music, I never thought of myself as someone who would enjoy it. However, after hearing this CD I have become hooked. The music has great flavor and was a blast to listen to. Believe you me, I was surprised. What a great CD! If I like it, I am sure that the polka lovers will too.

this is the cd release I've waited for for decades.......jimmy cleveland is "the trombonist".....being one myself I feel safe making that assumption.......on this album he displays ALL of his many qualities,consumate control,exquisite tone and dexterity beyond belief.
The album itself is far from the usual 50's blowing date ,far from it..wilkins arrangements suit jimmy perfectly and ensure there is always something new to hear on repeat playing

For me the inclusion of "Tuba" in a small group setting is a masterstroke!

Forget Ray Anderson,Mark Nightingale,Steve Turre,Steve Davis Etc.Etc.........get yourself "some Jimmy".and hear for youself what the Trombone is really capable of .and yes it was 1957
