Half-A-Wreck is a diversified group of musicians with their own breed of contemporary jazz "jazz with an attitude" Half-A-Wreck's big sound is largely due to Jan's awesome Hammond B3 organ playing. The rhythm section (Mike on bass and Rick on drums) is thick and solid with great chops. Joe's guitar is in your face with solo's yet laid back on rhythm. Van's trumpet melodies are sweet but when he solo's, watch out.

I am a big fan of the band. I know all the members and they are great and very talented musicians. I don't like every song, but I believe everyone can find a song that they will love. If you like blues, I highly recommend "Butteryfly Blues". "Jamin' at Jan's and Choc Full Of Nuts" are two of my other favorites on the album. No matter what style or genres of music you enjoy, this CD will find a good home in your collection. I can't wait for the next one!

Half-A-Wreck: A Perfect Whole.......2001-09-05

On first listening, Jamin At Jan's is a delightful mix of brass, strings, keyboard and drums. On second listening it's much, much more. Running the gamut from traditional to latin to what I lovingly remember as rock'n'roll and R&B, this blend of jazz combines all that I love about music in this new decade.
Merging the jazz of the past with the modern jazz trends of today, Half-A-Wreck never loses sight of the all important melody. And, its original melodies are what makes the band a standout!

Truly Jazz'd.......2001-08-29

I first listened to "Jamin' at Jan's" shortly after it was released in January and was very pleased from the start. A new look at contemporary Jazz, with a new group of artists, all of them superb in their own right. All of the solo's whether it's the keyboards, guitars or horns demonstrate the talent of the people involved. While the different tracks can each hold there own, I found none of them to be overpowering and play the CD a lot when I am on my computer. Good tunes, and I highly recommend it.
