Kenny G is often quoted as defending his crowd-pleasing sound as instrumental pop, not jazz (despite having taken his turn at the music of Ellington, Monk, and other masters on 1999's
Classics in the Key of G). Whatever--you certainly know by now whether or not you like this stuff. The multiplatinum smooth-sax man, though, has charted a steady course of blandness broken only by the occasional obnoxious foray into something he seems to think is funk. This CD of popular favorites brings every emotion down to the level of the Weather Channel-ready "Songbird," which made G a radio staple in 1987: whether accompanying Sinatra via technology or defacing the memory of Sam Cooke with the egregious Michael Bolton, it's all white noise.

A homey music experience .......2007-04-10
I don't know jazz music. Although personal preferences differ I found that many low-rating reviews here indicate his unskillful performance. Well, in the eye of a layman, I think he performs well enough. The ambiance this album creates is soft, comfortable, and soothing. Play this album and enjoy the peace in your mind!

where do i start??...... kenny g is a horrible saxophonist and a waste of space that does not deserve to be making cd's -- every song is the same and his tone is horrible !!! If you want to hear lameass music that has no musical form or structure than feel free to buy this , but before you do check out boney james -- now thats a good sax player!!!:)
Jazz ?.......2006-01-07
Something that really pisses me off is that everybody who give 5-stars to Kenny G. say he is the greatest jazz musician. You make two mistakes: first Kenny G himself says he doesn't play jazz and he has very limited musical skills.I bet you are not even musicians , so how can you evaluate his skills? Personally I spend 5 hours (often more) everyday listening to true jazz masters (John Coltrane , Wes Mongomery , Kenny Burell , Grant Green , Charlie Christian , Django Reinhardt , ... ) and trying to imitate their sound and style , so I know what I am talking about a little bit more than a bunch of lame-ass housewives who listen to "jazz" once a week when they are sitting in their tub with their latest gardener (or plumber or whatsoever).Sad but true.
Kenny G.......2005-12-11
Now I'll admit alot of Kenny G's music is background music. I am a big fan of Kenny G and found that listening to his music that if you listen really closely his sound echoes, such as one of his most popular like Songbird. Songbird is a really bad echoing. But I'll admit Kenny G's music does relieve stress. It is soothing to listen to this music. And although he does background music like this on his album that doesn't mean he doesn't perform good at his concerts and stuff. I was also passing through some other reviews and one of them talked about how this wasn't a good greatest hits. I can agree with that. Where is "Esther" at and "The wedding song" and many others. I'll admit Kenny G is not the best jazz artists. If you want good jazz artists I'll tell you. Soul ballet just came out with one called Dream Ballet Dream, although soul ballet is really not a saxophone type but more of a piano. Ya'll should check that out. Listen to their music from Kenny G's, notice there music doesn't echo alot, telling you that this is not music being played in the background. Another artists is James Vargas, he's not known by many people but ya'll should check him out also. I listen to his album about everyday. It is really good. I love it. Also you might wanna check out Nils and Greg Adams. There good too, also Boney James if you don't know about him and Pamela willaims, she's a good woman jazz artists. That's just too name some. There are many others out there. Go to smoothjazz.com and click on top 50 chart. That sight will tell you about some very good jazz artists for all you people who are locked in to Kenny G. But I ask you please check out James Vargas, that's the link. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002DRE4A/qid=1134271677/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-7687008-6756715?v=glance&s=music&n=507846, he is trying to get his 1st album promoted and i figured out about him from Xm radio, the channel is Watercolors, his album is self titled James Vargas and he is pretty soothing to the ears, rather then listening to Kenny G. And please I ask you I am just posting my opinon about what I think about this album, I'm not trying to start up anything or nothing like that.

Soothing to the senses.......2002-10-03
Isn't this whole CD sweet? I can play this all day and never tire of it! I love music that's easy on the ears. You can enjoy this anytime/anywhere: trying to make it through the work-day, while you're stuck in 5:00 traffic and how about during that long, after-work bubble bath?
I'd give it 10 stars if I could!
A great CD but beware of the "Updated" Version.......2001-07-09
The CD is really good, but I know for a fact that it was recalled and the last track, "Innocence", was replaced with the Intrumental version of "Titanic - My Heart will go on".
If you collect Kenny G's music though, you will then I suppose want both. I bought the first edition and then the newly released one.
This CD is worth getting though.
Some Will Never Figure It Out.......2001-06-09
Back in the mid to late 80's when Kenny G came on the scene there were instrumentalists who had already achieved pop success. People like Chuck Mangione, George Benson (although his singing is great also) and Herb Alpert come to mind immediately. These musicians have enriched popular music by incorporating fantastic creativity into undeniably melodic forms. It is the combination of the two which makes songs like Benson's "Breezin'", Mangione's "Give It All You Got" and Kenny G's "Songbird" continue to stand the test of time. Kenny G has taken popular song structure and infused it with ELEMENTS of rhythm & blues and jazz to create beautiful melodies such as those in "Songbird", "Silhouette" and "Coming Home" among many others. I remember when the breathakingly romantic sound of "Songbird" first graced the airwaves. It was a refreshing break from the norm on pop radio and it reached across racial and cultural barriers. People who truly understand and enjoy Kenny G's wonderful gifts of melody and composition are comprised of people of many backgrounds. The collection here is a must if you enjoy a sensitive, heartfelt yet passionate approach to music made for peoples' enjoyment. For all those people who snub their nose at Kenny G, that is their choice. I do have to wonder, though, what their reasoning is. Is it because in a number of reader's polls in magazines that Kenny G was rated #1 jazz artist? Guess what? Kenny G has never called himself a "jazz" artist nor has he ever selected such a category for his music! Kenny certainly incorporates elements of jazz improvisation into his playing, but that's about as far as it goes. (And from what I hear, he puts on a great live show.) For people to vote for Kenny G as the #1 jazz artist only shows their lack of understanding and appreciation for the genre. But folks, don't take it out on Kenny. I'm sure he's flattered to know that people enjoy his music but I know he had to be shaking his head when he saw his name at the top of the list under best jazz artists. I just had to clear this up because I get tired of people taking shots at Kenny G based on their own ignorance. If you never REALLY listened to his music, now's the time to give it a try. This collection will serve well in listening while driving, relaxing at home or enjoying an intimate dinner with your spouse. So, put away the preconceived notions, sit back, listen and enjoy!
Kenny's the greatest.......1999-08-11
Kenny's alto sax is relaxing and stimulating at the same time. His duets are the best too. Kudos for this album
No Thanks.......1999-08-08
