this cd set is definately worth the money spent. i haven't heard some of the music before but was willing to give it a try.

5 out of 5 stars Great Patriotic Music.......2007-02-21

Beautiful music perfect for feeling patriotic. Received CD promptly and in great condition.

4 out of 5 stars A good choice of tunes with good quality.......2005-06-30

If you like military tunes and marches, this 2-CD is a good choice. The orchestration is good, it is well played and the quality of recording is good. If you like this kind of music, it is a good choice to buy.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!!!.......2003-08-11

I have the CD at home and the songs sound fabulous. I've heard the Houston Symphony's version of the Star Spangled Banner many times on TV as this anthem has been used at sign-off (when this was happening). It's as powerful a version you'll hear. Probably the finest patriotic music CD you can find out there.

5 out of 5 stars Best Patriotic Music I've Found.......2001-09-20

Loved the CD! I am buying it to use with a Musical Freestyle Ride for a Quadrille. A horse oriented endeaver. The music will be perfect to bring positive patriotism to fairs and fund raisers for NYC.

This Parachute Express CD comes in a very close second to "Happy To Be Here" (also by Parachute Express) as my 5 1/2 year old daughter's favorite CD. The songs are very singable and full of energy. She loves to dance and march around with most of the songs. She finds Doo-Wacka-Doo and Bye-Bye Pizza Pie very funny, and will sometimes ask me to play the same song 4 or 5 times in a row. All in all this is a fun CD that I enjoy listening to also.

    5 out of 5 stars Pure magic........2005-09-03

Wilbert Longmire did do a couple of other l.ps back in the mid/late '70s. One was called "Champagne" (1978) and the other was "Revolution" .Both were aided by Bob James.I recall buying all three back in the '70s . But i have to say in all fairness out of the three this record was the best. Wilbert was one of the first to follow the trend set by George Benson and at one point it was hard to tell them apart. The clear semi-acoustic guitar tone was unheard of in 1976....everyone was using effect pedals,Lee Ritenour, Larry Carlton, Dennis Budimir,Wah Wah Watson, O'Donal Levy and even Eric Gale to some extent. Here Will Longmire creates a wonderful groove. The famous single "Black Is The Colour" became a hit on the dance floor in 1976/77 and is now very much a 'rare groove' collectors item. The beautiful version of Bill Withers "Lovely Day" must've made George Benson feel like he missed out on covering it. My favourite track personally is called "Good Morning" and is just too beautiful for words.
This was a shining example of the wonderful music produced on Bob James's legendary "Tappanzee" label. This WAS the sound of 1976 jazz fusion.

    4 out of 5 stars Classic 70's Jazz!!.......2005-07-16

Bob James discovered this exciting guitarist from Cincinatti back in the late 70's. This album was his only release and it's a hidden gem. For a long time, I wanted to know who did the Bill Withers cover of "Lovely Day". I found it by accident while doing an Amazon search. This album is a who's who in jazz music. From Eric Gale to Richard Tee to David Sanborn. Minus a star for such a short release, but it's still a great listen! Buy it if you can find it!

5 out of 5 stars WORTH THE WAIT.......2003-10-21

I first heard Love, Why Don't you Find Us back in the day when it was released and until this day I find it (still) my all time favorite in jazz. Mr. Longmire should indeed be ranked among jazz's best of the best. The smooth sounds ON "SUNNY SIDE UP" easily competes with today's smooth grooves in the jazz arena. I just learned it could be purchased on CD after all these years but I can say it was worth the wait! This is w/o a doubt a collectable treasure, a must have for the serious lover of quality jazz. ENJOY!

    5 out of 5 stars Home Music.......2003-05-03

If you love the contemporary sound of artists like Norman Brown, George Benson, Russ Freeman, Ronny Jordan and Craig Chiquito, you'll love this release. Longmire has a smooth passion filled sound reminiscent of Benson's Breezin album. Think of Bob James' Touchdown album and you can easily fit Longmire in that vain. The clean production value alone makes listening to this release a must and the vocal track "Love, Won't you try to find us" is just exemplary. This track has everything. Beautiful arrangements (Rhythm and Strings), good singing without too much "overkill" and even a nice little "giddy-up" guitar solo and enterplay with drummer Harvey Mason of recent Fourplay acclaim. I think this release is a must for smooth jazz guitar lovers everywhere. By the way, every day should begin like the track "Good Morning" (my favorite) does.

    Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Love Why Don't You Find Us..........2001-11-01

This is a classic album. Consider this one as jazz or crossover jazz, its still one of the greatest...I'm looking for this one on CD, seems its a rare find... The album was released 1978, on the Columbia/Tappan Zee Records label. Other artist include Harvey Mason -drums, Bob James - Fender Rhodes, Eric Gale - guitar, Patti Austin - vocals, Richard Tee - piano, David Sanborn...

Some of the best cuts are: Good Morning!; Love Why Don't You Find Us; And Bill Withers "Lovely Day"...(...)

"Teach Your Children" was nominated for Best Country Vocal Collaboration, and "Keep On The Sunny Side" was nominated for Best Country Instrumental Performance in the 37th Annual Grammy Awards. RED HOT + COUNTRY is the fourth album in the very successful RED HOT series of genre-specific recordings benefiting AIDS Awareness. This time it's country music's turn, and under the guidance of Kathy Mattea, numerous contemporary Nashville superstars chose a song or a style representing an influence on their own artistry. For the most part they chose songs of hope and healing. From the opening "Teach Your Children" featuring Mattea, Suzy Bogguss, Alison Krauss, and Crosby Stills & Nash to the closing Carter Family tune, "Keep On The Sunnyside," featuring bluegrass greats Earl Scruggs and Doc Watson, the entire album offers a ray of light in these fearful times.

3 out of 5 stars Great singer, less than great album.......2001-06-10

This album, first released by Monument Records in 1979, is not Sonny's best work. The songs on it are not the best, and even Sonny's vocals are not in his usually excellent style. Just a disappointing album. The only reason I give it 3 stars is because it's a Sonny James album; if it were most other singers, I would only give it 2.

Most of the songs on it do not deal with Sonny's usual themes of the joys of love or the sadness of heartbreak. Those are represented by such songs as "Pledge of Love," and "Looking Back." There is a bit of a Mexican theme with "Spend Another Night In Houston" and "Kid Cisco." There are also two old-time songs covered by Sonny on the album: "Lorelei" and "Oh Baby Mine."

However, nothing really defines this album. Some of the songs are confusing; none of them really stand out as excellent with the possible exception of "Hold What You've Got." The album has a 70's sound, but it doesn't have a Sonny James sound to it, a lot of the reason this album is disappointing. Only true Sonny fans would appreciate this album. . .maybe.

3 out of 5 stars A little disappointing, but anything Sonny is great!.......1999-07-08

I guess I was expecting the Sonny James of the 1950s, but was sadly disappointed, but I still enjoyed listening to Sonny. I'm trying to find the following albums by SJ, "HONEY", "SOUTHERN GENTLEMAN", AND "SONNY" and I would appreciate hearing from any fans of Sonny James, Faron Young, Carl Smith, Hank Snow, and George Morgan.

4 out of 5 stars Sonny has always been the COUNTRY GENTLEMAN.......1999-04-21

I was fortunate to know Sonny when he was living in Dallas in the 1950's. He was recording for CAPITOL and doing a weekly show on the WFAA Shindig. He could sing and play with the best in country music, and I am pleased to hear in this album some of the same style and musicianship that made him famous. His fans always thought of him as the COUNTRY GENTLEMAN because he was just as gracious onstage as offstage.

4 out of 5 stars NOT ONE OF HIS BEST.......1999-04-19

Great but not one of his best .It dones not compare with SNOW IS ON THE ROSES .Had tape but wore it out .Had try to fine it but can not .I would be so happy if I could a copy . IT would make my day

3 out of 5 stars Great for people who long for more music from Sonny........1998-08-11

As a Sonny James fan I was ecastatic to find Sony music had put this out. It's a collection of songs recorded in 1979 for the Monument label, but was never released because Monument went belly-up. Although the great James voice of the 60's and early 70's is gone, you still have some new music to enjoy. Several have a latin beat and I think are the best..including "Pledge of Love" which has the famous Sonny James "lilt," and "Kid Cisco," a nice peppy song. Every Sonny James fan was probably disappointed by "Lorelei" which was so pretty and had some unique voice twists...then it breaks into the marching band sound! I'd like to hear from other Sonny James fans.

          Album Description

"Let's Share It" is the newest CD from Pam Blanchard and the Sunny Side-up Band, who have been making music for children for over seven years. The CD is a fun time for the whole family. From hopping happy songs like "Ants In My Pants" and "Deep-Down Wigglin' Blues" to sing-a-longs like "Cut Up The Watermelon, Mary Porter" and "I'm Thankful", this CD provides a fun full spectrum of musical tastes for all children and their adults. With the catchy tunes and memorable hooks the band has created a collection of music that will entertain and educate children. It's a great album to introduce your toddler to music.

But the music is also mature and the harmonies are beautiful, so the adults can enjoy. From a country song like "My Dad's Got Trucks" to the reggae title track "Let's Share It!", the band moves with ease, and this album does not bore. There are even songs with depth, such as the track entitled "Raining Inside Me". It lets kids know its okay to be sad sometimes. But they bring you back up with the rousing gospel-influenced "Follow The Children" and the self-affirming "I Know That I'm Great. This album is great music and a lot fun. Share it with your family.

          5 out of 5 stars RECOMMENDED.......2006-10-18

This is great music! I love it just as much as my daughter does. We got it as a gift and now have bought several to give to other families and daycare. And they all love it. My daughter's teacher said the class listens to the CD everyday. The kids dance, sing and laugh especially about the purple underwear in the ants in my pants song. You won't go wrong with this CD. The music, the singing, the songs, the words are all first rate and have lots of kid appeal. We recommend, and would give it ten stars if we could!

1 out of 5 stars don't be fooled by the "rave" reviews.......2006-08-17

This isn't very good. I'm a preschool teacher and am given a lot of children's music CD's; someone gave this to me a while ago and I tried it out on my class of 2 and 3 year olds. It was apparent after a few seconds that this wasn't going to get them in a fun, happy groove. They looked confused and even upset. The singer's voice is grating; makes your skin crawl. I tried to listen to other songs after the kids were picked up and couldn't find one song that didn't remind me of nails scratching a chalk board. I think this comment from one of my student's says it all: "this sounds yuckie!"

5 out of 5 stars grandkids love it.......2006-08-16

I have been a fan of Pam and the Sunny Side-Up Band for many years, having heard them both on CD and in live performances where every child and a good many adults join in the fun. I love this CD for one simple reason: my grandchildren, ages 5 and 7, love it. It has just the right balance of creativity and repetition for them to delight in the fun and wisdom of the words and to quickly join in singing - they even make up their own verses. When so much of what is pitched to children on TV is loud, over produced, even frantic, Pam and the band draw children in with gentle, low-key, caring voices and instrumentation. But don't take my word - ask your kids!

5 out of 5 stars love it and want to share it!.......2006-08-16

MY kids absolutely love this album. I think we listen to Pam's cds at least once a day! I constantly hear it coming from my kids rooms. It's so uplifting and has such a great message for kids. Keep them coming Pam!

4 out of 5 stars A great CD for road trips!!.......2006-08-16

My daughter loves this CD and sings along to every song. My husband and I also enjoy the variety of music from Pam and the band. It makes for a great road trip CD for us because we can all enjoy it. Well worth a listen!

          Album Description

Brothers Javier and Luis Garayalde, from Iruña/Pamplona in Navarre, Spain, form Wagon Cookin'. Their father, sax player Javier Garayalde, made sure they got a solid classical education in music, sending them to the conservatory to study piano, banjo, double bass, bassoon, drums and percussion. They played in several Jazz bands in the 1990s and became interested in electronic music, acid jazz and house. They played at Popkomm in Cologne, Germany, and at the Midem Fair in Cannes, France, in 2002. They also shared the stage with Eddie Palmieri, Azymuth, Marcos Valle and Chic Korea over four consecutive nights at the Blue Note in Tokyo. That year saw the release of their first album, Appetizers. In 2003 they started work on their album, Wagon Cookin' - Assorted Cooking, in which they included material previously released on different labels, along with two new recordings. They moved to Brazil, and settled in Salvador de Bahia, where they formed the group Everyday Life with local musicians, imbibing their musical styles to form their own style, a mixture of jazz, bossa nova, break-beat and house. They also started doing live DJ sessions and mixing their production. They presented their latest album, Wagon Cookin' - Sunny Side Up in Japan in 2006 and are currently preparing a new album, from which they have released a 12" preview, presented at Sonar, Barcelona, this summer.

4 out of 5 stars The Remix/Sampler/12" to CD Import Album!.......2006-05-02

Wagon Cookin' are brothers Luis and Javier Garayalde. They've put out two feature albums, "Appetizers" and "Everyday Life", and both of them are a testament to their brand of fusion and jazz. While Wagon Cookin' was by far a more fusion/jazz based album that had a certain 'live' magic feel to it, "Everyday Life" was decidedly different, recorded in Brazil with a more poppish feel to the sound, if not a little cliched. What's here is not the third album, but rather, an album that's part remix, part 12", part obscure track and then part "Everyday Life" and geared towards the Japanese market.

It's certainly a great album for the fan that's been interested in checking out tunes by Wagon Cookin'. For example, if you heard "Lua" on Glucklich or "Fire" on "Spain is Different", this is the compilation for you. It's got a few tidbits form all over. The cd starts out with "The Week - The Weekend", remixed by Xan Blaq. It's a decent take too with a far more deep house feel to it. You lose the feel of the live instrumentation but you're given a totally different song. That's followed up with one of the best songs from Appetizers, "Mar", with an accoustic remix. While it doesn't have the same glide as the original, I think this is very smooth and has far more of a Brazilian ambiance to it. Xan Blaq's remix to "Natural High" had good keywork and an easy flow to the music, a perfect reprise. A few other stand-out tracks were "Fire", a pretty tough to find single and "Lua", which was only available on Glucklich and the Glucklich 5 EP. Lua in particular is a beautiful jazz fusion song with an amazing, warm vibe to it. Rounding out the rest of the cuts on the album - MAW put together a thumping remix of "Mar", and then there's a solid Louie Vega track remixed by Wagon Cookin', previously available only on 12" titled "Cerca de Mi". A few cuts from Everyday Life are featured, "Amarelo" and "Agua de Lluvia", while the second for some reason seemed slightly different to me.

For the Wagon Cookin' collector, this is a must have as it offers some pretty tough to find pieces on it. But I must admit, of all the remixes, I wasn't so much a fan of Wagon Cookin's own remixes of the songs. And I'm not convinced all of the remixes are timeless. Anytime real instrumentation is stripped and replaced with electronica, IMO, you open up that possibility. While I enjoyed this release, I must admit I did prefer both Appetizers and Everyday Life over this one. And please remember that this is a Japanese Import, so the linear notes are in kanji.
