A Musical Treat.......2006-01-08

Yehudi Menuhin and Stéphane Grapelli together had made some of the most beautiful music ever-recorded. And I believe that this is one of the many successful albums they recorded together. In this recording, both violinists have showed their excellent musicianship and interpretative eloquence as well, making it one of my most cherished CDs from my collection.

These are the main ingredients of a perfectly-made CD for your listening pleasure: mix violins, piano, bass and drums together, combine two terrific violinists, season with the best melodies in the 20s, 30s and 40s from Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart. Add the musical talents of Nelson Riddle, Max Harris, Martin Taylor, Eddie Tripp, Alan Clare and the rest of the studio musicians. Now all you have to do is to sit back, relax and savor these stunning melodies coming from your CD player. Listen to it in full-volume and fill your music room with the sheer beauty of these classics.

One of my favorite musical instruments is violin. With its four strings, it gives a whole wide range of musical versatility and I simply love the fascinating sound it produces.

My personal highlights are the best tunes from Jerome Kern - "The Way You Look Tonight" (Nelson Riddle arranged this particular track and conducted the Woodwind and Brass section), "A Fine Romance," "Pick Yourself Up," "Why Do I Love You?" and "All The Things You Are."

My choices from Irving Berlin's gems are - "Isn't It A Lovely Day?" featuring the great artistry of Nelson Riddle in arranging and conducting, "Cheek To Cheek" and "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm."

The Cole Porter repertoire represented his musical sophistication in "Night And Day," "I Get A Kick Out Of You" and "Just One Of Those Things."

The choice cuts from the talented and creative team of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart are "My Funny Valentine" and "Thou Swell."

Listening to this CD is so delectable and equivalent to having my favorite dessert - be it Tiramisu, New York Cheesecake, Black Forest Cake, Chocolate Soufflé, Créme Brulee, Chocolate Mousse or Chocolate-Coated Strawberries! ;)

This is one of the best gospel jazz CD's I have heard. There is something for everyone including, smooth jazz, latin, contemporary and even traditional tracks like "Precious Lord" and "What a friend we have in Jesus". My favorite is "Lord I Love You". I find myself listening to this CD over and over because it is so uplifting!!!!

Anointed men of God.......2003-03-05

This CD is a must have for your gospel music collection. This CD has something that will minister to everyone, whether you enjoy traditional and/or contemporary gospel music. The lyrics are biblically based, so you don't have to guess, wonder or assume whom they are speaking about. Without a doubt, The Covenant Project glorifies our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Brother Patton and Brother Beebe truly allowed the Holy Spirit to inspire them with regard to the musical arrangements and lyrics you will find on this current CD. Also, let me not mention to forget that you will be tremendously blessed by the solos ministered by Brother Michael Green and Sister Candice Smith. Thank the Lord for artist who are committed to the Lord, reaching the lost, and are by no means compromising the gospel!!!

I truly enjoyed this inspirational CD. It has appeal for all ages and all different musical tastes. If you are looking for something to lift you up and jump start your day, this is the album for you.

An awesome gospel CD..........2002-10-31

This CD is a wonderful collection of gospel music with a jazz flare. It touched me emotionally and spiritually, taking me to a higher level of praise. It was an awesome feeling knowing the artists personally and being able to witness their God-given talent, especially Harry, who I knew could play all the instruments he does, but didn't realize what a beautiful voice he has. I am truly impressed and I definitely would recommend this CD, especially to those who are looking for a creative flavor of gospel. Eclectic mandolinist and fiddler Jeff Midkiff's touring schedule includes performances with string ensembles, symphonic orchestras (often playing clarinet), and light opera companies. His splendid solo debut, "Partners In Time" offers influences from Midkiff's bluegrass, classical, swing and jazz background. The ten tracks include six original compositions, two from George and Ira Gershwin ("Summertime" and "Oh, Lady Be Good"), one from Bill Monroe ("Monroe's Hornpipe"), and one newly-arranged traditional piece ("Goodbye Liza Jane"). With exceptional songwriting, Midkiff creates various musical atmospheres from the Dawg-like, bouncy "Alhambra" to the slower, more reflective "A Visit from the Muse." The high-stepping title cut, "Partners in Time" is lively, spirited and breezy. More standard rhythmic and traditional sensibilities abound in "Grey Hawk," a tune inspired by the Winterhawk Bluegrass Festival and its name change to Grey Fox. "Funk Tango" undergoes a genesis from an engaging little melody to a tastefully-rendered improvisational showcase and back again. Perhaps Midkiff's most technically-impressive number is "Etheria," which is rendered solely and flawlessly on mandolin.

Midkiff is a superior instrumentalist who pushes the envelope. He plays with dynamics and intensity that make for a powerful listen. While impressively virtuosic as a soloist and songwriter, Midkiff has also managed to find three sidemen who perfectly complement his style. They include Curtis Jones on guitars, Robbie Link on bass, and Bill Ray on percussion. This all-star acoustic quartet lay their engaging music down right, and seven of the album's ten tracks span five minutes or more to allow each musician to showcase their own impressive talent.

Over the years, Jeff cut his teeth on bluegrass with the New Grass Revue, McPeak Brothers, Lonesome River Band, Bluegrass Express, and The Schankman Twins. He holds music degrees from Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University. An educator, Midkiff now lives in Chicago where he balances teaching, performing, songwriting, recording, and touring. When the creative calling told him that it was time to record "Partners in Time," his friend Tim Austin helped engineer the project at Doobie Shea Studios.
